When I first looked at the pick, I thought, “do I want another unlimited pick for convenience?”
Now that I see this about the 20% sprockets, my thought is “will I need this pick for the sprockets?”
I feel PRESSURE to buy for functionality, not DESIRE to buy for convenience/style.
Therefore, I give it thumbs down.
Upon further review of the drill picture, I came to the realization that it is actually the Pac Man Elder Dragon who we will be facing.
There are several blueprint drawings in Scarlet’s lair including one of the slides you see when you open the console that show the thing the marionette lowers out of as a drill.
I didn’t see the screw in the bottom of it. So, the thing in the sky and the thing in the picture, are they different or the same?
I’m confused about the speculation that the machine is a drill.
If it is indeed what the marionette is being lowered from, isn’t it more likely to be a portal connecting the same world that the steam creatures and watchwork “robots” are coming from?
Is the marionette something that was built in Tyria? It’s a tad big to be something no one noticed before now… Of course, there is the counter that the Tower came out of nowhere, too.
What kind of facilities are available, on the other side of the portal, to create the marionette? If this is a test, are we going to be treated to a sky full of marionettes?
Perhaps people like Caithe are the Champions for their respective Elder Dragons (her with Jungle dragon, perhaps?) and Scarlet sees each of the popular races of Tyria as the threat, because of the dragons?
She sets the lower races upon us to weaken the approach of the Elder dragons, and allies with Aetherblades (and steam creatures, are they part of the same group?) to prepare who she feels is a capable counter force to the rising of the dragons.
I’m sure there are plenty of holes in my ideas, I intend them to open more discussion.
Overall, I feel like Scarlet is becoming less insane rather than more insane as the story progresses.
As the owner of a software development company and delinquent coder myself, it is not an “insane” task. Do you understand how the server power is allocated? It is all virtualized dynamic, according to the presentation on it that I watched. Adding more overflows does not mean that there will be increased load on the backbone. Same number of entities.. And if priced and planned properly, you probably wouldn’t see lots of individuals throwing their money to the wind.
The coding for closing a PvP instance already exists how would it be more difficult with a PvE instance?
The only reason I see you did this nerf is to force the players to go into ascendend crap! There was no real “problem” with the consumables except the fact that they make it easier to get an monster down.
And here we come to the path of ruin GW2 is following – why does Anet think that there is fun in playing longer a game to get some stuff? It’s pure materialism, boring and stupid.
You can’t see because you didn’t read, did you?
All I can think about is the stream of complaint posts over weapon and armor clipping.
In response to ongoing issues related to overflows, I suggest this PvE focused item be made and sold through the gem store!
We have “custom arena” for PvP, is the same technology adaptable for guilds who are currently “popping overflows” to congregate in world events?
To ensure multi-server guilds (like TTS) can effectively use this, replace the user whitelist with a game-wide guild whitelist.
With simplicity and consistency with the intent of a regular overflow, I also suggest that there be no customization options.
Perhaps this is an “instance” solution that retains the feel of the open world?
I also suggest the item be giftable, so a single guild leader need not be responsible for purchasing them.
Selectable option worthy.
Are you guesting when you end up in your first overflow, or in your home server?
As someone who does the Tequatl event on a daily basis: ember consumables shorten the time it too to kill her, but are not an essential component in the capacity they are currently used. Perhaps they play a greater role in a smaller group, but I haven’t experienced less than a full (or nearly so) map for the event.
After watching it again, I noticed that it was “Cobalt wurm HEAD” on the second pass.
Not sure what your comment is saying in the first line, Nizio. Are you able to rephrase that?
Here’s a great video of the Amber Wurm event, during the run where we got Cobalt down to almost dead before it started respawning (I run to Cobalt to see what’s going on at the end)
Do we need to have -everyone- get buffed to fight inside of the wurm? It didn’t seem like we were getting anywhere with it, even though we had the plan in place.

They’re not even that convenient. You’d be better off turning the gems into gold, and buying as much copper, silver and gold ore that gold will buy you then mining 3 of each per day for the rest of the game’s life.
I agree
I don’t know how orange and hot pink compare from a colour blind perspective… but they are both pretty awesome colours.
When I’m red, I feel like even if it’s that split-second of confusion, it’s enough to give blue an advantage. I find myself more likely to win when I am blue than red.
When I am on the red team, I am always hopelessly confused about who is my ally and who is my enemy.
That is,.. a red circle is my team’s captured point, but a red tagged player is my enemy… except of course on the mini-map, where red players are my teammates.
Is this just me?
Why don’t we at least have “yellow and purple” teams if there is a consistent red for enemy and blue for ally?
The price of these items avoids them being called out as “pay2win”. If you want the convenience, well there you go, but you’re not going to see any in-game advantage by purchasing them.
I find the prices quite satisfactory, even though I am not going to buy them.
Jack-a-lop used to have awesome swim animation, and it was removed. At least keeping a robot covered with wintersday lights out of the water makes sense.
Isn’t the outside bowstring clipping through your character’s pants?
Yep, still happening to me in PvE, primarily with large groups. The guardian #5 “infinite spin” with greatsword also returned at the same time as this issue and is still happening to me regularly. Patient for a fix.
Izzmek is not leaving Gavbeorn on Crystal Desert… :P Defended successfully. Are there any requirements we need to know?
Feeling like the sigil chills me, too.
Calling “manipulated” demonstrates your misunderstanding of supply and demand.
Giving all ascended weapons access to stat swapping is a slap in the face to those of us who put in all the time for legendaries.
I’ve been called elitist enough to not care, so please spare your keys.
If you want that kind of functionality, get off your lazy entitled kitten and work for it.
This is a common downfall to games.. too many people complaining and the developers water down the requirements. I don’t know what I’ll do if/when that day comes.. I will probably continue to play, but I’ll know not to put time into anything that takes it because eventually it will be given away to others for free.
So, alas, we shall see.. I’m not forecasting one way or the other.
I’ve 80’d them all and have 3 world completions.
A Minion Necro is the way to go, because you have a truckload of mob distractions!
I use Axe and Warhorn and feel pretty much unstoppable.
It’s the one class I’ve 80’d two of so far.
I love my home server… for PvE. Joining a stronger WvW would be nice, but that would mean leaving behind some of my friends (and guild).
As a result of this, I propose an item for changing servers, which is giftable. I would spend a dumb truckload of gems on these to enable my friends a free server change without having to spend their own loot — after I took all the time to convince them to join the server we are currently on.
While I’m on it… perhaps a “Guild Server Transfer” item? That must be worth a good 4000 gems or more, no?
Definitely agree. I like spending gems to support the game and check every night, just after midnight (server time) for new Black Lion items. The shelves seem a little bare for this time of year, especially for gifting. Maybe I’m too picky now?
A Wintersday armorset would have been so night. Forget the town clothes garbage…
Overall, I must agree with DarkWasp.. the character animation in this game is top notch.
1. Crystal Desert server, last night waiting for the Hydra Queen (Taidha Covington) (9:30pm PST)
2. [TTS] Tequatl T-World Squad in Southsun Cove for the Karka Queen, around 11:30pm PST (server time)
Dead?
Everyone’s an anatomy expert!
Thanks for your attention to details, I want my characters to stand like heroes.
That said, this may be a tough fix, depending on how the animation cycles were created/implemented. It makes me wonder if there is a mocap actor with this horrible gait, polluting the game industry…
Fingers crossed.

Windows 8.1
I7 6-core (#??) @ 4.325 Ghz
32GB @ 2.333 GHz (should fix this)
256GB Raid0 SSD (two cards)
TWO nVidia GTX770 4GB (SLI)
1500W PS
1. Windows 8.1 runs MUCH faster with GW2 than Win7 did
2. SLI on/off makes a big difference – GW2 does make use of your video card
3. GW2 uses all CPU cores, it is a multithreaded app
There is so much hearsay and outright incorrect statements about the game architecture and OS.
Graphics settings:
nVidia GW2 profile (make sure SLI is on)
Start max everything, go through each, don’t go by the best drop down setting.
1. Camera shake off
2. Super sampling ON
3. Environment ULTRA
4. Shadows -> medium to off to your taste, this has a huge impact in performance
Essentially shadows is all I will adjust to perk up the frame rate on a heavily populated map, when the frame rate goes below 30.
Usually 50+ FPS peak 120 FPS.
Running on a fifty five inch 1080p @ 60Hz
If I turn on frame rate limiting (to 60), the jet plane fans calm down
but I will get some horizontal image warping when moving the camera around a lot.
On my nVidia system, the game plays flawlessly and in practice, gives me a frame rate of double (or more) I was getting under windows 7, pre-upgrade.
I’m using a dual GTX 770 4GB cards with an i7 at 4.325GHz.
An achievement point for one copper is a bad reward? Confused…
I’ll buy 10 slots as soon as they go on sale again.
Just like buying the bank tabs on sale.
The time it takes to play 250 unit orders and sell them makes the return rate much less than relevant…
Ryan makes a much better point,
The best non-AR infusions require WvW badges, which are IMPOSSIBLE to purchase – you must play in WvW (even if just puzzles) or reach achievements that nothing in the gem store will make easier enough for you to notice a difference. In a Zerg, the party en masse contributes more to your strength than any booster. You can earn them through achievement points, but the “buyable” points don’t add up enough to make a glimmer if a difference.
So, we have a best in slot item which you effectively cannot pay for, even if it is only a +1 and 1% attack/defence advantage vs npcs
Definitely for the infused bits. Now if only there was an soulbound to account bound converter … I wouldn’t have to buy more ascended trinkets
Oh, thinking more, I can recover my soon to be unused +4 infusions…
Well thanks for being ArenaNET salespeople!
32 years of gaming, here.
Guild Wars, for me, is the pinnacle of it all.
Alas, it’s like the common theme of Utopia.. People cannot accept perfection and will always look for flaws.
Further to Wanze’s statement, gems are pegged to $ and as such, they are not more or less valuable. What is less valuable now is gold.
John is giving a hint. Commence relevant speculation, please.
Accountancy Waypoint at Rata Sum offers the same thing and crafting stations within arms length for all professions. No one hangs out in Rata Sum, so loading is fast, too.
Perhaps the instance from the jubilee is reopening?
I dump all the related potions I get.
Has anyone tested to see how this woks with sigils?
Stay out of LA.
And.. you can do WvW without ever visiting LA..
Subject re-naming suggestion:
Seriously Junkpile (toilet humour naming policy)??
Almost 3800 hours.
Sometimes feel a bit tired, but then I hook up with a new group and it’s fun all over again.
10 level 80’s
4 legendaries
3 world completion.
Everyone has their thing.
Guild Wars 2 will outlive Guild Wars 1 (if the GW1 servers are ever shut down…)
I was playing 3D with nVidia’s 3D play. Works great, but low res.
I found another app which enabled me to do over-under on 1080p, which was BEAUTIFUL.. except the 3d checkbox in options wouldn’t un-grey like it does when you use official 3D tools… so I had shadow layers sticking out here and there.
There aren’t enough 3d enthusiasts to be worth ArenaNET’s time, as far as I see.
If Mr. O had a big 3d screen in his office, it would probably be higher on their priority list.
It is, indeed, AMAZING, in 3D.
That would be awesome. I opened my season chest on a toon that doesn’t do WvW and I have a whole bunch of soulbound ones on her now…
Hi devs,
Problem: Players complain – FoTM too hard, too easy.
Solution: Set the starting bar lower.
Make the level 1 fractals significantly easier, while retaining the mechanic structure that carries on the harder levels. Easy enough for 80% of the players to get through a set of fractals in a short period of time (15-20 minutes per level) with minimal chance of wiping a pug group.
Scale up from here, reaching the same difficulty which currently exists at level 50, or stretch it out to 70-80 with the new headroom available.
Start end chest rewards low.. blues, for example and increase to greens, rares, exotics and eventually ascended which are the guaranteed drop quality for the most difficult of challenges.
Why?
More skilled players will quickly burn through the simple levels and soon reach content which hits their challenge space.
Less skilled players are able to get their feet wet without feeling instantly discouraged. The linear scaling of rewards is the carrot for them to keep trying, pushing themselves to get progressively better.
Schools don’t start students in grade 6 and expect them to watch videos and learn from their classmates, which is what I see in both dungeons and fractals.
Players like me, with 3700h of play, and devs, are too close to the game to understand how really challenging it is. “All or none” doesn’t cut it in a game where the customer base has such a wide range in skillsets.
In open world events, I see why “Tequatls” can’t work in this way. But, in instances, the scalability is controllable, so I don’t see any reason why the events should be made so difficult right off the bat.
You want everyone to enjoy the content? This will do it.
Example:
Pac-Man. Most people who played the game were able to get through a few levels, quickly, helping them to understand the mechanic. The game gets faster and harder, progressively, until only the truly dedicated are willing to spend the time to push further. All players “below” this level are still able to enjoy the lower difficulties. Rewards were somewhat linear: cheris, equivalent to blues, then greens, rares and eventually exotic and ascended quality-like apples and key, at the hardest amount. Hardcore and casual players were both able to enjoy playing Pac Man at their own levels, and it became one of the most famous games of all time.
