Arah defence is a great example of how ArenaNET has adjusted rewards to benefits success over failure. They nerfed the one spawn pre event during assault and buffed up the mob spawns during the defence.

On top of that, the priest sometimes spawns during the defence event, so trait hunters can still get their needs fulfilled.

Finally, regardless of defence fail or success, the assault still comes when its unpublished timer completes.

This is a methodology that I feel works fabulously and would love to see more of it.

Any time failing is better than succeeding, I cannot possibly imagine it was intended.

Hi all and thanks for the efforts to provide us with a new and improved trading post!

I have multiple accounts for Guild Wars 2, and noticed something about the new trading post…

When I log out of one account and into another, my “Recently viewed” history from the first account is visible on the new account (main page of the trading post).

The sell history is correct, so it doesn’t appear to be a critical issue. That said, I haven’t done an exhaustive check.

Perhaps a solution to this is ensuring that you clear any session variables/cookies at logout?

How about 25 achievements, like this, except you receive credit by:

1) doing any 5 from the total of 25, each week.
2) do not receive credit for any beyond the first 5 you complete
3) those 5 are crossed of from the total list and are not available in the next week

If not 25 from a list, at how about 25 unique events. IE: no credits beyond the first for a dolyak escort (maybe granular such as a specific escort, if this is trackable).

Rewards? Perhaps a la dynamic events, instead of “gift or no gift,” or even worse, “I live on a crappy server.”

25 unique events – gold
20 unique events – silver
15 unique event – bronze

Good luck to all, this season. Regardless of rewards, my server’s queues are evil!

CDI- Guilds- Logistics and QOL

This is more of a “how to have a guild that doesn’t take people out of the open world” than “How can a guild hall be used as a platform to introduce QoL features for guild management.”

So, for Guild Halls… I suggest then:

Guild Waypoint

- placed anywhere within the PvE open world
- shows up on the map (new colour/label?) or in the Guild Pane by the daily message
- only visible when representing the guild which placed it
- one per guild, may buy a new one to move guild location
- you have to be able to get to the area in the map (ie: no new character exploit opportunity) before you can use it
- upgrades to guild are placeable objects (like a banner) within maybe 900-1200 units of the waypoint and also only visible/usable by representing members. Expire like guild boosts?

Benefits

- Open world Guild Hall!
- No need to make a bunch of new Guild Hall instance maps (a la GW1)
- No hiding in a Guild Instance
- Non-guild members can still happen upon the halls
- Entering via WP helps put guild members in the same megaserver open world map instance
- Finding a cool place to act as your guild hall in the open world!

On that note, for

GvG

- guild purchasable item like a pvp custom arena, which enables you to invite another guild when you first click it. Then it is open for 24 hours for the two guilds to battle.

New players pay the bills – that is important for ANY game. If you think not, then why is WoW touting one month free (even though this is the norm for a sub game) of play before their new patch comes live.

Game companies NEED new players.

I agree that games, especially MMOs, need a constant influx of new players. These players don’t join because of the new features, they join because they hear about how good the game is – from people who play it all the time.

I don’t know the metrics, but from my own player-of-one records, my real dollar spending in the game is far in excess of the original box cost, and on a monthly basis. So, essentially, keeping me playing is like signing me up as a new customer every month.

It’s simple.

The veterans, with thousands of hours on their accounts, are your good will ambassadors. If we are happy with the game, we will spread joy to the new players, and we’ll continue to stick around in game.

You know what else we do?

We help the new players learn the game in a way that is much more rewarding than a more spoon fed leveling process.

Challenge is an important part of the reward process.

Meeting people is what an MMO is all about.

I am absolutely certain that the time I spend sharing tips and tricks, in a friendly and supportive way, is golden for retention.

Now, that said, I do like hunting for traits, it makes the process more interesting and doesn’t align with “spoon feeding”

Still love the game… thanks for all the efforts you are putting in. I know you mean well.

But in specific regard to this thread, your question asks the possibility: could we keep maps fresh by adding tons and tons of events? In my experience, a large complexity factor in event implementation is other events. Any time an event is placed near another, we have to at least consider how they will interact. There’s one interaction between two events, two between three, five between four, nine between five, and so on. Returns definitely diminish. Over time we’ve come up with some effective techniques and patterns to mitigate this, but the cost is greater than zero.

The Harathi Hinterlands chain to is epic. Is it possible to have chains like this which occur within a time period, then are dormant for a block of time while another large chain happens? In other words, to avoid the overlap of events/chains, have batches of them which never overlap.

My concern would be the idea of “x events always happens at 1pm,” every day. To this, I think the solution is to time the event cycle so it shifts forward by an hour (or half hour) every day, to the point where someone showing up every Tuesday at the same time would eventually get through all of the .. groups of chains… after a number of weeks equal to the number of chains.

The boss timer system seems to have the forced event chain start times in place.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m happy with Guild Wars 2 (Happy Birthday!) and was happy playing Guild Wars 1 before it.

My idea to build upon your sticky question:

“Frequently Dispelled Myths” stickies.

Example:
Myth: The economy is broken by farmers causing runaway inflation.

Answer:
The process of farming is counter inflationary, because only 10% (made up number) of the loot they earn is in gold. Items that are sold on the trading post a) are a 15% gold sink on the seller and b) are paid for by gold earned by the buyer, so no gold is generated in the process.

Have a great day!

Allisa Wonderland.8192

Hi all!

From what I’ve read in the Wiki, upgrading my ascended gear to add agony infusion will wipe out the previous upgrades I already had in my gear.

Well, I have a couple of sets of armor and more than 2 sets of trinkets, all filled with WvW infusions.

The thought of throwing away the laurels I invested in them is the single thing that holds me back from diving into fractal dungeon running.

Is this something that you’ve done? Do you think that making agony infusion an additive process will encourage more people to take the plunge?

Gold costs aren’t a problem for me, I’ll pay gold…

Am I perhaps just missing something?

Thanks!

Allisa Wonderland.8192

Trust.

From what I’ve read, this appears to be the core concern. Before the game launched, I was overwhelmed by trust issues – that one of my favourite aspects of the old game – trading was being replaced by the trading post. I was afraid! I was upset!

But alas, in retrospect, it was definitely the way to go.. even the fees make sense.

How do we apply that to now?

An idea to establish trust:

Use the means you already love.

Josh Foreman (and I believe also Colin) mentioned that you love game metrics.

1) select some of the forum hot topics
2) find historical metrics to support the course of action ArenaNET took
3) make more beautiful infographics that give unambiguous support of those actions.

I most definitely don’t expect forecasting values and information that will give you a competitive disadvantage in the market. You know, more than anyone, the volume of historical metrics you are able to safely draw from.

Of course, there will always be those who call you a liar or demand more, but they aren’t the customers you want.

When rational community members see empirical evidence which support the conclusion that ArenaNET is making rational decisions, there may be more trust that the same methodology is being used in your current development plans.

Once you have a process in place for this, offer it on a regularly recurring basis, maybe even another Twitch show… “The Province of Metrics”

Whatever the case, I’m not going anywhere. I love Guild Wars 2.

I think this is the OP seeking and finding numbers to back his personal desire. That he is Playing a popular game.

This sounds to me, a lot like you are projecting what “you think” is my motivation, in order to fulfill your need to be right in your debate with Vayne.

Unfortunately, you are wrong on both counts.

One of my respected colleagues in the industry posted the original article on LinkedIn, without specific reference to any of the games on either the Raptr or Overwolf lists.

I am a fan of Guild Wars 2, and as Vayne astutely observes, quite sick of wading through streams of anecdotal insults which have become “fact” about the game, by repetition and not by truth.

He is also correct in his assumption that I posted this, not to justify my own interest in the game, but to spread some positive “fact” about the game.

The forum falls to the lowest common denominator because of the bullies who keep repeating their BS drive the pragmatic contributors to give up and come back only to read patch notes.

This is why it has been stated repeatedly by developers, in this forum, that the apparent public consensus in the forums on any particular topic does in no way guarantee representation by the broader audience. There is a clear bias.

There is a clear bias in the"Overwolf" poll: it does not reflect games which do not lend themselves to a need for conference-call communication tools.

As for the other various attempts to discredit the information I offered up… i’m rolling my eyes.
