One thing, if they ever add chill does damage, it should have HP/Life force scaling, apply damage when chill would be applied (not on tick or as a condi) and true damage like lifesteals (not cond damage), DhuumfireTerror already is kinda a on crit proc cc thing, but rarely anyone bothers with carrion despite actually fitting better for necros (hp/Life force and scav runes).

Why Soldiers Gear for M/M Necro?

in Necromancer

Andele.1306

Soldier – Higher usage of DS and better power scaling (both things which dont matter for mms)
Knights – Higher armor and proc chance (kinda important for it)
Zerker – High damage no survival, thus high reliably on DS and dodge timings/body blocking with minions while attacking from afar (works for axe/focus MM)

[PvX] Chill vs Initiative

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

because: a)weapon swap (you can even count underwater skills, but yeah underwater combat…) b)reduced initiative regeneration = increased “cooldown” on all skills not only on those used.

a) Still chilled
b) Because its not like all of your skills dont have any cooldown expect said initiative and you can spam a single skill 3 times in a row without cooldown…. right no need for a condition which has one main thing going for it, increasing the reduced risk window between skills, to work on that… totally balanced for everyone else…

b) Lich form does the highest DPS.

Is it? How does it compare to Dagger + locust?
The attack speed is good indeed, would love to see that speed for DS…

High end builds its almost identical dps, but it pierces and is ranged so in most cases dealing 2 or 3 times the dps dagger can do (still rather use it for situations where you cannot use dagger because of fire, being on lower hp, out of dodges, etc), the important part is the dps boost you get from using corruption, suffering into lich form since the wells benefit from the power boost which makes them hit like trucks (seriously the 3 combined are like 30-40k bonus damage to the wells or a 11-21k bonus of damage on builds that dont go for high crit damage/precision on most bosses (kinda showing off build damage diversity).

Dhuumfire change aint much of a nerf, its a trad with more reliability for the chance of a enemy to counter it (as in both parties benefit from more information and knowledge).
MM builds are still gonna be (mostly) worthless in pve till the minion/DM traitline revamp, for pvp i think that its understandable and for wvwvw… uhhh, just do whats always done and get 40 necros to use golem charge on a wall? IDK what to say but it really doesnt matter with the numbers you can get by stacking minion masters.

And as said before zerks hardly take a hit as hard as ele warrior and thief did.

P.S. Fear is very useful cc, Axe 2 burst over the 2 seconds is higher than the dps dagger does in the 2 seconds (as in in 1 full chan and start of another hit), but true overall from just weapons dagger has highest dps, hello my name is well bomb, happy to see you die in that “not being a dps boost” by quading my power and since any exotic and especially ascended staff LB > Traited axe and if you doubt it or wanna math it, try it actually in game and then base the math of that.

Near to Death is the worst trait ever

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

It’s not an assumption. Whenever ANet posts about DS trigger traits they bring up Near to Death as a balance factor. Every single DS trigger trait was balanced to be average with NTD and ends up subpar without it.

yes most of them was balanced around NTD but with 50% reus, so basically there is not rly good reason to not improve them by 1 sec after NTD nerf

% of uptime is a lot less important than actual continuos uptime for stability, just ask yourself what is better, 3 sec stability every 7 seconds or 20 seconds of stability every 80 seconds? I’d take the 20 seconds even though it’s proportionately less, since with 20 seconds I can do a full skill rotation AND heal by the end of it.

or you can lose it after 2 sec, 3sec every 7 sec is way better

Yes, you lose the stabiltiy afer 2-10 seconds, but you dont die because you got additional 14-20k hp (actually double that because of the 50% reduction bug if it doesnt overflow).

TLDR: Your point would be valid if Spite did not carry condition duration.

Why does it matter what stats a trait line gives, you pick them for the traits not stats (ok except for profession mechanic boosters, like on engie, ele and mesmer its all fine to pick for the cdr).

You take both stats and traits into consideration when making a build.

Tell me which two traitlines a necro looking to go “balls-to-the-wall” condition damage would invest points into? I mean, Curses is a no-brainer. What about the rest.

You realize that many condition necros looking to increase their damage output were investing points into Spite before Dhuumfire was even put into the game, right?

They did not put Dhuumfire deep into Spite because they didn’t think any condition necros would go that far in Spite. They put it that far into Spite so the condition necros who did go full on into Curses and Spite couldn’t invest many points into the survivability traitlines. That is how they tried to balance it.

Well with conditions only being really specified trough 3 trees without additional limits (i.e. minion condi build) its Spite, Curses and Soul Reaping, Spite punishing enemies if you get ahead, Curses double dipping into your cc and SR covering your weaknesses.

But let me explain further, for example a condi thief based on teamplay will only have 0-20 points in the 2 lines that actually have cond dur/cond damage, because other lines give stronger benefits and again cover some weaknesses the cond thief might have, Then for example, Engies can have reat benefits with just 10 points in each “condition” line but 30-20 in others because they plain do more (shorter cds/more might).

TL:DR You still pick trait lines for traits over stats, just in situations where you aint sure/have your bases covered/want specific maximums the bonus stats might help you pick.

I would rather they add NtD to Last Gasp in the minor master for Soul Reaping and make it an inherent CD reduction for putting 15 points into the trait line. The balance team keeps emphasizing how they want Necromancers in DS as much as possible but the CD is a real barrier.

Or plain reward proper DS play by removing the 10s CD from exit and just leave the on enter one, thus if you were for 9s in DS pop out for life force, you get to DS again right away.

How about a dying animation in which the necro bursts in pale green-blue flames (like UW ambience from GW) and a lich appeares out of it with the flex/cry from charr skeletons (you know the spread arms and scream, like shrunk model grows from the middle/chest of the necro while the remains of the necro body shrink into the lich in terms of animating it).

Depending on example, between 3k (normal risen in arah) to 9k armor (for a lupi with i think 1 stack of his armor bonus, if damage comparisons between normal mobs and bosses + the wiki page on how the math behind armor works are true), either way way more than enemies in pvp or wvwvw would have, but also way riskier and over a longer time frame (2+ seconds in most cases) than what you would meet in any pvp setting.

Furious Demise – Gain fury when entering Death Shroud.
Weakening Shroud – Cast Enfeeble when entering death shroud.
Shrouded Removal – Lose a condition when you enter death shroud.
Foot in the Grave – Gain stability when you enter death shroud.
Spiteful Spirit – Gain retaliation when entering death shroud.

Furious Demise/Shrouded Removal/Spiteful Spirit – small bost should not be such a problem considering that few months ago we had DS on 50% reus
Foot in the Grave – Near to Death is balanced on Foot in the Grave not vice versa

Fdeminse worked like Deathly perception once upon a time, so did SS and FITG, so no they are balanced around the CD near to death gives to DS.

P.S. Overall this shouldnt be a problem if DS cooldown started when you enter it instead of being applied on exit.

Our current retal duration is pretty much okay, although the retal on trait could use a little bit more imo.

What we need is more access in general.

It should either be the good old perma ds retal effect (not buff) to honor the name of spiteful spirit (but ofc weaker than real retal since its a 10 point investment) or get a name change and +2 base duration (same thing applies to FitG, but changing name back to shade in case a).

People do not want to waste time if they play for result. PvE is not for fun only.. sometimes it is about farm and farm is boring. Thats why so much discontent in this forum. People just dont want to see “LFG war/guard/ele/mesmer only” Necro is fun to play in pvp, wvw, I love DS mechanic, but there are more useful things in other professions.

EQ definition of PvE was for fun, for the experience, skill gained, rotations, build theory and kinda sortaish for the little story it had, same for D&D. Actually the whole “game” thing of MMORPG defines that it has to be fun, if you want pure results thats why you have pvp and if you suck too much for that GW2 gave you WvWvW.

Gamers are spoiled today. Remember the SNES era when you played what you got? Now every gamer thinks they’re some sort of master game designer.

Yeah! I remember a lot of MMO on SNES! …

His point remains. Everyone is an expert that requires the devs to make their changes now when it comes to an MMO. No one wrote to Nintendo asking for a bunch of fixes. When given an opportunity to have a voice, many decided to use it to yell or give ultimatums/threaten to quit.

People complain they’re bored after thousands of hours of an MMO, then blame the developers for not releasing content. Imagine that many hours of Super Mario World, and how bored you would be. MMOs are an opportunity to be a part of something that’s ongoing, and people use that opportunity to complain that things aren’t moving fast enough.

Feedback is fine, because devs want feedback. However, there’s something to be said for enjoying the little things and appreciating a class for its flavor/uniqueness instead of its theoretical upper bound.

You know, if you could actually find dna from a dino and revive it you would be able to research it irl, there would be no reason for a paleontologist to look trough dirt for remains. Ofc there is still the point of not reviving a idiotic dinosaur from who you wouldnt be able to get anything worth while because they choke on the air they breath nor a too dangerous (biased) one that would nom you up.
Same way id think that as someone who has 7-8 years of pretty much hardcore gaming and a person who has seen lot of game design choices/mechanics i could provide proper feedback if asked to actually think about it, ofc it would need to be regulated and filtered into the proper mesh of data, but still being better than throwing spaghetti at a wall and look what sticks.

If your build relies on life blast for damage, since it’s necro’s only multi target capable ability (traited) that deals decent direct damage, then you want to be in death shroud as much as possible – way more than 40% even 50% of the time you’re in combat. For PVE certainly, Vital Persistence is very useful. I am in death shroud about 80% of the time, only coming out when I let life force expire, or when there’s only one target that can be easily taken down. When my life force runs out, I just use ghastly axes, locust swarm, spectral grasp and back into death shroud for half a minute. Obviously, Vital Persistence improves the effectiveness of the life force you generate twofold.

As i mentioned in pve you already are more than 80% of the time in DS if you know how LF works and that deaths cause 10% lf generation, also any boss you can stick on for 10 seconds with D1 WH5 lets you keep in DS for over 4/5 of a fight.
Its worth only exists on hybrid builds that dont use Axe/Focus as their second combo (so that use staff without soul marks), in which case i do admit its useful.
Also this little thing called taking damage doesnt help VP very much.

What i will also admit is that its a very nice playstyle trait, just how in WoW a lot of minor glyphs are good playstyle based traits so if you wanna use it i dont think that anyone will take fault for it since a more adapted player playstyle is usually superior to a uncomfy build that would in other cases be mathematically better.

From old blue plz (wow)
If tank is crap the group dies
If healer is crap the group dies
If a DPS is crap the fight takes maybe a second or two longer

Translated to GW2
If you are kitten in a build focused on healing you die and cause the group to maybe wipe
If you are kitten in a build focused on ccing or boss positioning/manipulation and run with unskilled people its a wipe
If you are kitten in a offensive build you just cost the team a few seconds

Here for zerker situation:
If you are support in zerker you are probably forced into it by meta standards since there are mathematically better options for supports in terms of support
if you are control in zerker read above
If you are defensive with team buffs in zerker you are probably skilled enough to understand how to play
if you are in zerker for the sake of cheating encounters you should try to lick that electrical socket, there is loot for finishing that “quest”.

low-skill cap is because arenanet doesnt deliver any difficult and challenging content.
not because of the berserker gear and berserker stats.

and compared to berserker, other gear doesnt require any skill at all.

Nothing is a challenge if faced with cooperation and preparation, also yes currently non zerker builds do take more skill because you take more kitten in yo face and dont skip/cheat out of more than half the existing mechanics of a fight.

If you match berserker’s and soldier’s against each other and none of the active defense would be used, soldier’s wins by a large margin. I wouldn’t say that passive defense are balanced in that case. It’s obvious that without active defense, passive ones are vastly overpowered.

Actually that is the definition of balance, you take 2 out of multiple options (ill take from starcraft a siege mode tank being a zerker unit and a immortal being a soldier unit), the mathematically superior option should always win by a large margin. then you take the counter option of that unit (id say a knights on crit proc user/rabid condi user, so 7 marines or a muta/air unti) they fall on a scale between marginal efficiency (a numbers/skill game) or hard countering just like the first example.

Th reason why i said 98% is simple. Try to find “good” zerkers Rangers/Engis/Necromancers for a Dungeon Speedrun.

Engi is Bomb/Nade switching maxdps Build, who does this play? 1/100 or so….
Ranger is sword/x + Cat + frostspirit and spotter…who does this play? U can wait hours to find such a ranger for CoE speedruns for example.

Necromancers are the same.

Yes alot warriors and guards are bad (what i wrote too) but it´s easier to find a “OKAY” one.
Sure GS only Warr/Guard is worse then Axt/Mace + GS or GS + Sword/Focus guys, but they are still much more usefull then a condition necro, a flamethrower engi or a bow/axe ranger.

That´s what i want to say. That doesn´t mean that 98% can´t play well, but they play a not so usefull build. Possibel they like it, it´s ok i don´t critize this.

I like to play a Staff + D/D rampager hybrid for example. I´ve got Zerkers gear too, but sometimes is just want to play it because it´s fun.

A) S/WH+SB+Melandru Stalker with swap to devourer or fspider+Frost, flame trap and spotter is the staple ranger build for dungeons… unless the person is gearing their ranger up (in which case the GS/LB setup is better because it does more on base) what is rare to see people that know how and when to swap pets and when to change their sword to axe main hand (bosses which get 4+ axes in the face if you melee em) or that know that their axe offhand is useful against projectiles.

B) Engie nades are out of the top pve dps spot for quite a while, they actually share the damage over 10 seconds with flamethrower builds… either way both are still very useful because of range/elixir drop for anti-projectile

C) Currently the best necro setup for fractals is lich well bomber (aka power in knight or soldier gear) that knows how to use their fears and slots in Sgrasp/Swall/WoP instead of their Well of Darkness BUT condi necros still do a lot more damage than any medicore warrior that doesnt know how to keep his FGJ/swaps between axe and GS up for might nor how and when to use their burst skills because a condi necro is (no insult ment) far more brainless.

Given that most of the instant-kill attacks are targetted, stealthing stops the boss from charging it if you were its target. Even for those that are AoE, thieves have a large number of Evade skills. Necros have 0.

Stealth doesn’t disjoint ANYTHING. Neither a spell cast time or channeling nor a projectile in flight

The only way to use stealth to avoid a targeted attack is to stealth before it’s even started. Which has the nice side effect that the mob will just wait for you to get out of stealth to throw it in your face.

Actually every non aoe/melee cleave targeted boss attack requires you to be visible, stealthing doesnt disjoint but plain prevents the targeting/finishing the cast since they dont have targets. Also you got 4 dodges instead of 2 like every other profession and shared with mesmers rangers and eles can keep 100% vigor uptime with no real bother so no you do have more invuls than a necro has. 0.75 more on base+0.5 pre passing 10 seconds more to be exact.

Please Give Necro Marks Unique Animations

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

The problem isn’t so much the red circles, its that a Necro can cast 1 of 3 marks on top of your head, without you being able to know:
1) Where the mark is going
2) Which mark is being cast (until it lands)
3) If the mark misses or fails by getting proc’d without taking effect, which mark just went on CD

Those are very key things to understand in a game with no cast bars and that is all around managing few but key CDs. If a Necromancer is about to cast Putrid Mark, I need to know those things, because it will drastically change my response to say, Mark of Blood.

The cast times don’t need to be longer, or more “HOLY CRAP HE’S CASTING SOMETHING RUN”, but even a very toned down but different animation between all 4 marks would be really useful. Look at Reaper’s Mark, you won’t notice what is being cast unless you were already looking, but it still allows you to know what’s happening. And it hasn’t made it any weaker at all.

Case 1 where marks are stacked: Dodge trough them all are wasted

Case 2 where they are one after eachother: Take a second at skull, claw or snake fangs, dodge the second 2 cases or plain walk around, if you are too lazy/a thief just dodge trough trough em if you really dont wanna take oh so mighty 5k damage and a chill… (and no you cannot make the terror case since we both know you dont drop reapers mark for nothing, the cc is too valuable)

Case 3 where necro casts it on you: Difference of it and a enemy being ontop of you and using a spin2win or any other such move is? Or a Ranger using bow which you cannot dodge by animation since they are the same except for barrage and all their arrows fly at 1500 range pre half a second

This two wrongs makes a right attitude makes me sick.

Actually the negative of a negative is a positive, be it math or nature.

No one wants longer cast times. We want the exact same cast time, with an animation that will actually show the enemy what I’m casting. It’s stupid that three skills on the same weapon have almost the exact same animation.

Its also dumb that there is no way to tell where the marks are going. This is simple readability stuff that should be done. If it makes staff too weak then buff it, but this is basic game design.

Again i must ask, then mesmer shatter effects need to be vastly more different at higher graphics options because the actual universtal shatter effect (the glassy parts) overlaps over any stars or pink lines, unique granade animations, all traps (be it thief or ranger) having special setups animations which light the character up on what they do, special character pose for point blank shot and stealth not to remove targeting, it might not make sense, but its “basic game design”
Seriously staff deals less damage even with terror and max cond damage for its cooldowns and base power damage compared to any other two hander (and no most of them deal aoe damage so thats not a issue).

Feel free to do that, but then increase the damage of each mark by around 4 times to fit a two hander which has dodge based animations (10s cd with a 1.1/4 s channel for 6-56k damage depending on build compared to a 4-8k over from our 6s cd over 16 second “channel” is obviously too weak, the 8k optimal condition skill clearly needs to have special animations) – numbers here presented by me are pve obviously, cut 2/3 of them off for about a close estimate for pvp.
Also skull, claws, venom fangs, think its easy to remember.

Things that can make you not get fears: Enemy having melandru runes, you not being actively engaged in combat with the enemy, missing the timing and the easy chance of you not clicking the enemy/them being oor/los.

it now cleanse only 3 conditions

…per target.

Only onto one target. Also it only counts hit radius not trigger radius.

a) channeled skills tend to not start leaking LF instead of HP if you get a first hit while not in DS since the change
b) HP removal and reflects/ally damage/other random technically non unit damage tends to plain hit hp no matter what effects or buffs you got and last but not least plain lag sometimes makes it seem that you got LF left but you dont.

2 Warriors and a Necro walk into a bar.
1st Warrior says, “If we show you something entertaining, will you give us free drinks?”
“Sure,” says the bartender. “But it has to really be entertaining.”
The warriors get on each side of the necro.
1st warrior Kicks the necro to the other warrior who hits him with Backbreaker then Hundred Blades and Kicks him to the 2nd warrior who does the same but Stomps the necro back (instead of Kicking). 1st warrior then Rampages, Smashing the necro a few times before interrupting the necro’s heal by Kicking him to the 2nd warrior who also Rampages and does the same. The necro gets downed, never having gotten any of his staff skills to activate, and only having 9% of Life Force being unable to enter Death Shroud.
The bartender frowns.
The downed Necro says, “It’s ok, I am used to it.”
The bartender smiles knowingly.
The warriors swap Staggering Blows, ping-ponging the near-dead necro before they stop the beating and allow the necro to rally.
The bartender smiles and shakes his head.
2nd Warrior smiles and walks up to the bar, “We’ll take those free drinks now.”
Bartender laughs loudly, and says, “Um, no. I said you had to entertain me.”
“But you smiled,” says 1st Warrior.
Bartender says, “Yeah, I smiled because you took mercy on the poor guy and did not finish him off – that was new. Otherwise it was the same old same old; I keep hoping to see something novel – especially when there is a Necro involved – but I never do. I have been seeing that same no stability game since August 28, 2012. You should buy me a drink for wasting my time.”

Aka a warrior enters a bar with the necro tied to him, necro hits the counter, warrior cant find the barkeep.

Working as intended… I believe the balance team has indicated that they intend to introduce a new buff to the necro next patch.

The necro health pool will also lose 20% health every 10secs until below the Siphoned Power trigger point.

Gain might when your health falls below the threshold.

IMHO this will be a game breaking patch, the necro will be so OP that no one will play any other profession.

source?

Not sure if stupid or playing along…

Compilation: New Death Magic Minor Ideas

Necrotic Rituals: First spell cast in Death Shroud has increased potency, unknown trigger, effects are as follow: Twin life blast – 2 of em fired in the same cast, Corrupt Path – Dark Path corrupts 3 boons into conditions and immobilizes the target for 2 seconds in addition to normal shiz, Whispers of Oblivion – fear with undefined duration, Soul Transfer op version of LT that seems to have no channel time

would be VERY cool.

A) reanimator needs to go
B) THAT shiz was actually in game, for some reason it got removed, all spells and the trait are technically still coded in, even if the Life blasts deal a empty offset of damage and fear has no duration set which would make it not apply at all, be a interrupt or be infinite duration.
