No, really, because following your idea i guess somebody playing naked without dodging with only off hands useless utilities and no traits is just “Playing with a different gaming value”.

If they’ve learned a lesson when comes to istances from GW1, is that players min/maxing and speedrunning will find a way around any kind of impediment you’ll trow at them.
As long as you don’t remove the whole package making it possible as whole, ofc, but that’s not really an argument.
Normal clearing teams will experience the same kind of impediment, but won’t have tools to counter them.
Thus, at the end, they get the short end of the stick.
Think at Skeletons of Dhuum alone. They made this kind on mob able to ignore every single protective spell/ability in the game – only to counter/slow down tank Speedclearing builds with spell immunity.
Result: speedclear changed to skip/ignore/glitch/lure and tank in safespots/order of priority in killing mobs, and moved over.
“Normal” teams got another very annoying mob to deal with in a UW run.
Agree on AP. They’re meaningless in terms of skill, because they’re tied to consistency in log everyday and do a) daily b) LS c) everything else.
Surely number of AP can be tied to how much you’ve played – if you see somebody with 1k AP high chances he’s still learning and not playing by long time. But it’s all matter of probability.
Anyway, AP are useless to filter imo – just take a closer look if you see somebody with way too little points. Or way too much. With 14k AP you’ve probably spent more time farming mindless stuff for LS achievements than refining your DG skill.
Then:
-build/weapons used.
-gear – but write in the post you’re checking it. Also, imo shouldn’t be “I kick if not zerk” but a “I kick if using useless stuff” (like Cleric/Dire/Ptv). I can accept War/Guard with Knight pieces here and there, or Necs with Rampager/Zerk mixes. Given that they have proper build/weaponsets.
On weaponsets and utils, idk. As colesy said, you should swap them as needed anyway.

AC13, CoF12, HotW1, SE13, Arah23, and TA up are all pretty safe.

For anything speed you have to make a lot of stipulations and form your group for more than 2 minutes (hopefully people aren’t impatient).
I’d take the whole CoE over any Arah path if i’ve had to pug it.
Pugging with my Guard:
0/30/0/30/10 – 10/30/0/20/10 (depends if i need PoV, manly.)
Sword/Focus fixed. Secondary set swapped on the fly (usually GS or Hammer. Scepter and Staff – TA only – are used too if needed),
Zerk trinkets and weapons.
Knight Armor (with Soldier Runes).
Babysit bad pugs, contribute decently to dps if you see you’ve got a decent group.
About “not speedrunner then bad player?” thing.
No, if you’re not speedrunning doesn’t mean you’re a bad player.
But if you’re using the “i’m not speedrunning” sentence as excuse to do not use your brain while building your char, equipping your char and playing your char, then yes, you’re a bad player.
Example: a Warrior who say “I’m not speedrunning or min/maxing, so i trow in Knight gear in the zerk mix for extra survivability” but still uses GS + Axe/Mace rotation, banners, 30/0/0/10/30 build is a decent player who isn’t speedrunning, so don’t bother with min/max his char to the extreme.
A Warrior playing a full support Hammer Healing Shout build with Cleric/Shaman gear and facetanking every encounter is just a kitten .

What makes mandatory Ascended gear are the Infusion slots – not that joke of stat bump.
Use of staff:
-sweeping blossoms in TA
-zerg farming (PvE aswell WvW)
-if you have some nub at skipping mobs to help with swiftness + line
It’s very situational. Great in aforementioned few scenarios, bad/useless everywhere else.
Auto dmg is weak – good for tagging due to cone huge aoe, but that’s it.
Orb is slow, doesn’t deal much dmg aswell heal, and is a bit arkward to use.
Symbol give swiftness, and that’s it. Very low dmg and no other utility (unless traited).
Empower is okish – but might stacks have a very short duration.
Line is ok too but everything with either stability ot defiant will ignore it. And this is enough to nullify the skill, cause CC is the only thing it does.
Some big take away:
1. More rewards in WvW and a way to get back piece.
2. Reduced stat bonus on bloodlust and further changes are going to be made to encourage smaller servers to take them as a come back mechanic.
3. ANET top level are seriously concerned with the alt unfriendliness going on and more changes are going to be made to address the problem.
4. No new map should be expected any time soon.
5. Dev team see lack of incentive to fight when loosing as number one issue in WvW, they are brainstorming however no concrete plan has yet be revealed.
Funny that community has been 9 to 13 months ahead of WvW dev team, looking at this list.

My bets are on Tengu.

Depends on your class. Warriors/necro have high vitality so extra toughness helps. Guardian/Elementalist have low vitality so extra vitality helps. It is best to use http://gw2buildcraft.com/ to determne your best effective health. That website does not take into account conditions being able to cut through armor.
This.
Low HP (Ele/Guard/Thief) makes Vit better than Thoug.
High HP (War/Nec) makes Thoug better than Vit.
For the other 3 “Balanced HP pool” classes (Mes, Engi, Ranger) you should mix up the two.
As rule of thumb tho, Thoughness is slightly better than Vitality – except ofc the scenario of facing a condition build, but Vit alone will just delay your death, if you don’t have active counters.
First step to building a stronger relationship between developers and the community: admit your mistakes.
Instead of writing this post ArenaNet you should have made a post admitting the hundreds of mistakes you have made over the past year, apologise, then promise to make things better.

It’s poorly designed content and technical limitations to managing condition stacks.
Nerfing zerker gear or builds won’t change anything (aside slow down running groups or just make content even more dull due to lower DPS).
Buffing support gear or build neither. Same for CC/conditions.
As long as you don’t need anything aside damage and some evasion to clear content efficently, zerker will be the go-to gear, period.
But it’s not the stat combo the issue.

I said elsewhere, i’ll say it again: cutting the map capacity in half would actually be, on paper, a good solution to some issues (namely blobbing and skill lag). But cutting in half the wvw cap would make queques skyrocket. Now, i agree that something must be done about server stacking going wild. But this solution would simply kill off server spefic communities. And that would be more harm than good in the long run.
SFR, my server, suffered a huge hit back in March cause bandwagoners from lower tiers had a free transfers window while we were 1st ranked server. Now Piken is getting the same. You know what happened when queques doubled suddendly due to this? Server and community nearly died. Now, just imagine what cutting in half the cap for every server would do. And you’re mistaken if you think only top stacked servers have ques.
Also, it would look like a very low blow from Anet in order to gather gems: first push ppl to stack with leagues, then push them to destack by cutting numbers, Transfers, Transfers, Transfers.
My suggestion would be yes, cut in half the BL (no, not EB – yet) cap.
Then double the amount of BLs.
Overall numbers for server in WvW stay the same, but the players will spread much more cause the’re double the field for the same amount of ppl.
This will not solve stacking issues, i know. But there is little to solve as long as PPT is what matters in wvw.
Breaking news: There is no zerker problem. It’s all a bad players moaning about it cause it’s the embodiment or “High risk high reward” that they can’t achieve, while others do and discriminate/farm much better cause of it.
If you don’t like, don’t use it.
If you don’t want to play in a certain way, write it in your LFG – bam, likeminded group formed.
On the other hand:
All gear should be stripped out of stats. Everyone is happy, you don’t have to grind again if you want to swap a build, just pay 3.5s. There are no cons, just like in gw1.
This is much more imporant thing.
Zerker gear is not a issue.
Stat on gear, which makes build flexibility bind to different gear for effectiveness, making grind very bad even on same char let alone if you want BiS for multiple chars, are a much bigger flaw.

Seriosly talking, i boubt my pet deals even nearby 50% of the dmg, but it’s undeniable that the gap between “ranger + pet” and “ranger alone” DPS is quite harsh.
Too wide imo, and it’s one of the main issue of the class.
Push the Ranger/Pet DPS split towards the player.

It’s the same, Power is primary stat while Vit and Tough have same numbers.
For overpowered? There’s plenty of things people THINK are overpowered, when in reality it’s simply the combination of things. Warrior’s Sprint, Healing Signet, Mace Stun, 50% crit while stunned, berserkers stance, and so on are not overpowered. Together they have the potential to be.
I think this sums it up.
Taking single skills/traits of the War, they’re balanced. And not badly at all.
The issue is when you give all of them to a single class, let alone the Warrior.
Warrior alway had highest HP and Armor numbers, which as design were balanced out by being not able to self sustain effectively and by having a very high base dmg – making even tanky builds quite hard hitting – plus some of the best burst of the game.
In spvp they’ve been crap for first 9 months or so because the game mode isn’t about killing opponents, but outlasting them for controlling points. Leaving aside the discussion about how crap this is, Warriors suffered it, so Anet started to give them more tools and more sustain. Which, up to a certain point, was alright.
The issue is that now you have a class that retained the high HP+Armor+Dmg component, but got on top of that
longer/better CCs
exclusive anti condition/burst moves
effective sustain without any investiment in healing power
great mobility
decent utility and support.
Ofc you can’t have ALL of that in same build, but a fotm M/S+GS plus HealSig/ZerkStance/EP build packs already CCs, burst, evade, mobility, self passive sustain, negates incoming conditions or incoming burst, can use Soldier gear+mel runes for extra survivability and yet push out decent/high dmg. And i’m not taking in account traits.
So, to me Warriors could use some shaving.
But, aside few skills, no nerfs are needed.
Best thing would be rework some scaling/position/skills, to make impossible to carry all that stuff at same time with same effectiveness.
TL;DR: Healing Signet, the high dmg/hp/armor, endure pain, adrenl health, unspecting foe, shield stance, rush and so on aren’t OP skills.
Putting all of that (and much more) in the same class is likely to be too much good stuff packed in a single build. Which yes, is OP.

Elementalists (but not only them, mind you) need some love, which is true.
But yes, ele forum community is overexaggerating and dramaqueening a LOT the issues.
PvE: conjurers are probably highest DPS in game. It is boring? Yes. Is bad cause is a gimmick? Yes. But numbers don’t lie.
WvW: zerg – wise, Eles are required. Period. You can’t pretend to play a organized WvW team without staff Eles backline healing, buffing, comboing and CCing the world for your frontline.
Roaming and sPvP wise, the issue is simple: Ele has been balanced, in this year, taking as reference the top players. Now, Anet as usual overdid it. Which means that very good eles will have to work ten times harder than any other class, but somehow pull things off.
The rest of the population switch to other classes.

I’ve created a ranger just to gear and build it properly and go make pugs jaws drop.
Sucks i’m not finished with it yet, and i’m still bad at sword.
Karma was oversupplied – and on this i think everybody agrees.
But as usual, Anet is just a disaster in terms of balancing, and overdone it.
Now karma is harder to obtain than back in first month of game, which is kinda ridicolous.
Waiting to see if it makes more sense in the grand scheme.
“Fixing/Nerfing” it alone is bad, due to rampant conditions and the unbalance between applications and removals.
If on 15th conditions get their fair share of shaving, then i could be fine with this.
-fixing this is fine for sPvP but bad for WvW

Not surprised, but Anet never learns.
The issue is that it was alright on release.
Story dungeons, dyes or legendaries being char bound wheren’t alt friendly, sure, but it was still on a “Not cool but not big deal anyway”.
Then Fractal level came in, char bound.
With the ascended grind attached.
Then laurels.
The WvW rank.
Time gated rewards.
Time gated gathering (quarts).
Time gated refinements (charged quarts + ascended mats).
Plus all the stuff that came out Char Bound instead of a much better suited Acc Bound (infinite tools, for istance).
Aaaand, cherry on top, nerfin to the ground the token/DG income from multiple characters.
So to me, at least atm, the game is quite alt-unfriendly.
…and unusually, Piken Square, currently ranked 2 in EU, possibly 1st next reset, is free to transfer too ? Huh ?

As far as WvW goes, PTV is better. You don’t need bigger green numbers, Power as main stat is better and overall PTV has better survivability over Cleric, plus being more versatile and Healing Power being a waste of stat (you shouldn’t rely on that to survive, much more on dodges and positioning. Also, you’ll use it on the 2-3 shouts you’re carrying, then nothing else for 20-40 sec).
As far as PvE goes, do yourself and your team a favor, drop both the shout healing build and ptv/clearic gear and spec for raw DPS.

Perplexity runes aren’t avaible in spvp.
Thus, balance team doesn’t give a flying puppy.
Open world boss or events just won’t work.
Go tell Anet, they love this crap.
That said: make it doable by a guild “raid”, with guild bonuses and rewards.
While that would be cool, it would mean
1- make glacial heart a grandmaster trait, which leads to
2- moving it somewhere else. Which grandmaster could be removed/repositioned? in which line? wht to place in the void left in Glacial Heart spot?
3- guardians have so many sources of burning that chill instead of burn would have a way too high uptime for how powerful it is.
Definitely intrigued by the design idea tho.
It is viable if you know what you are doing. It can work if you understand that the primary benefit of healing power on a guardian is selfless daring, which scales 1:1, so you need to be focusing on building your guardian to get as many dodge rolls as possible, whether by perma vigor, stamina sigil, or energy sigil.
Again, it has a niche in WvW, but that’s it.
And even there, i prefer PTV over Cleric anyway.
For PvE, is just out of the equation, period.
Ranger is never ever taken seriously. I mean, Brazil recently wrote that in theory ranger would make their speed runs faster but at the end of the day “it’s too hard to play and no one has a geared ranger they enjoy playing”. @ _ @ some “pros” they are
Ranger DO are useful in DGs when specced/played properly.
Which leads to issue n°1 with rangers – as Guang said too:
Rangers themselves are good, objectively speaking. It’s just that 99% of rangers are garbage and do literally everything wrong, so no one wants to take their chances with them.
Ranger players.
I swear, across 12 months i’ve encountered maybe twice a not – bearbow ranger “Ima ranger pet tanks i snipe from the outer space with longbow!”. Simply, most players are attached too much to an archetype of ranger which on Gw2 simply doesn’t work.
Not flaming a entire profession subforum, but most rangers i’ve met had that mindset (plus the “i play how i want” when you point them to a better build).
When instead you come across a Zerker Sword + Jaguar, Spotter+Frost Spirit Ranger, you’ll notice that he’s actually useful. But, as Brazil itself said – issue n°2: pacing of weapons and QoL of their skills are way off.
Aka: Sword auto is a major pita to use, most players can’t get them to play it thus drop the ranger’s most powerful set.
Finally: DPS relies too much on pet. Simple as it is. I see the thing “It’s Ranger it’s their main mechanic so it has to be important” but losing half or more of your dmg due to the crappiest AI i’ve ever seen just makes Rangers unwanted. You can’t setup pet standard reactions (FFXII Gambit, anyone?), they have no protection from random aoe, and you can’t make them dodge – and we all know that gw2 survivability in DGs is all down to that.
So, either massively improve pet management and survivability, at least for pve, or shift the balance of DPS source between pet and ranger. Or whatever.
The issue is that in PvP Guardian are only point holders.
They can’t do anything else – granted, it’s perfectly fine to have some profs being better at something, and everyone have their specific place, but reall, you can’t do anything else. In spvp.
Which means that guards are crap for WvW solo (in small team are very good) roaming, because the only thing they do well isn’t there (except the bloddfaillust, but ppl comes in full zergs to cap those so who cares). WvW roaming is much more all about mobility (both in and out of combat) and dmg, with their proper counters.
WvW zerging, the group utility makes up to the issues. Same for PvE.
The SIGNET of Restoration has a trait that lets you use the ACTIVE while keeping the passive.
And?
You’re comparing the HPS of Healing Sig with no traits to a Signet of Restoration with a 30 pts trait? How should that be meaningful?
You can achieve the same by pulling monsters, but guardians seem to prefer to use something else than a greatsword these days (mostly a scepter with a shield and then use skill number 5 to “protect” the team).
