Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
It would be a start to fix the mess they made 1 year ago.
The best way Ascended should be treated
-same stat of exotics (just with infusion slots for fractal)
-can swap stats (you grinded for it, you deserve to retain a “reward” cause stats are taken away, and this would be far better than +stat)
This way you have ascended being exotic-level of power with a trade of some versatility in building (can’t make Ruby ring with emerald jewel, you’re forced to go ruby/ruby as stats) for a infusion slot (and forementioned stat swap), and at same time being a utility/build diversity helper with stat swap (like current legendaries, which are ascended in fact).
GS is fine just needs f1 and rush fixed. /thread
Ditto.
I’ve beared Anet and the direction they gave to this game for a year or so.
(couple of breaks here and there for school/pc issues/whatever)
Not counting to break the record further, tho.
Not to mention dumb as rock pet AI system and the inability of the devs to even try to fix it.
Agreed. I could deal with that pet AI though. It’s just the darn root on the sword auto attack. I still can’t believe somebody thinks that’s a good idea.
I think PvPers do, probably cause it’s a hella useful (or annoying ) feature when your target is running around kiting your hits like a crazy bunny.
And we all know where Anet runs the balancing.
So, i fear that auto won’t be changed anytime soon, if it will be changed at all.
If you’re Human, Prayer to Dwayna is an option.
Not that awesome, but if you don’t need the condition cleanse (or, better, the lack of conditions makes CC lose most of its potential), it’s a decent alternative.
About the whole fractal update (level acc bound, level reset, drop/agony/loor changes, etc) i just feel like Anet made it again.
Good ideas, but
-poorly implemented
-always “too little too late”
just like 90% of the patches/features i’ve seen dropped in this game over last year.
Fractal level is acc bound, now you have no more excuse to carry on playing a supbar profession in Fotm.
Thanks Anet!
/sarcasm
Im largely unhappy with high end pve balance and how poor necro is for most of that. But necro is good for build diversity, fun and somewhat effective builds in all gametypes. The problem comes with unshakeable and pve mechanics making control conditions or condition damage really subpar. And also necro being a bit too selfish compared to other classes.
Pretty much this, regarding pve.
Add in some clunckyness here and there (no vigor/stability, no cleave) and there’s no surprise there aren’t a lot of necros.
It’s not that is a bad class: but you’ll have to get the best out of it to make it worthwhile, and not a lot of ppl stick to the prof enough to do so when they can switch char and get same/better results facerolling of keyboard.
Well, to each is own.
Side note: in sPvp/WvW Nec is a top tier class, maybe except wvw roaming.
Even if the expansion comes it won’t get me back. Unless they change major things – snip
This is my top reason to think that we won’t see an expansion anytime soon.
There no point in developing one when your playerbase is so…disheartened? about the game as whole and the direction you’re driving it to.
Manly because, if we assume to launch a expansion right NOW, “just” with content…it would be a total failure. It’s not more content the biggest thing to fix in hte upcoming months. Core design and structure of the game do.
Ascended uncalled grind, terrible PvP pushed for esport, AP grind. WvW, DGs, sPvP and almost the whole game being ignored to favour the biggest reason for leaving:
Living Story.
I do expect something to change for real in upcoming months for a simple reason: there will finally be competitors.
One of the major luck and, at same time, disgrace of Gw2 (and how it grown) has been the launch time.
They hit the perfcet timing. For one year or so, nothing was in direct competition with Gw2.
Sure, a month after launch WoW deployed MoP: but it’s for a already different target audience, so doesn’t really count.
F2P/B2P wise, the only one has been Neverwinter (which is rubbish) and few other converted F2P which can’t be considered as real competitors.
What did this mean for Gw2? Aside that it has been launched earlier in order to get full benefit of this window (in spite of all the “When it’s ready” mantra), it means that for a year or so, Anet has been able to slack HARD yet retaing most players – there was nothing really worth where moving to and leaving GW2, unless you’re going to pay a sub or dropping MMOs altoghether for a while.
You can see it by looking down at last year developmen.
Living Story nothingness, temporary crap, bugs still rampant, little or no changes to flaws in endgame core features like DGs/WvW/PvP, and so on.
Now that
-new consoles are launching. And Gw2 cater to a lot of casual/firstMMO crowd, which is likely to drop it for new consoles and the usual Xmas flood of new games.
-Anet has really crossed the line in terms of slacking and more and more ppl are leaving even with nothing on the market
-new MMOs on the horizon are shaping out as a real treat, see EQN or AA (F2P), ESO or Wildstar (P2P)
They’re literally *****ing in their pants.
It’s probably too little and too late imo.
Pvers looking for hardcore/challenging stuff: disappointed.
Pvers causuals: Living Story/Temporary Content/Cash Shop updates are finally getting old even to them.
WvWers: disappointed. A LOT.
PvPers: there are still some?
But who knows.

Ascended armor is scheduled for be deployed in 2013 – see Colin blogpost of few months ago.
Considered that December is likely going to be focused on Wintersday, and that Fractal of the Mist launched during November 2012, that it’s going to get a (large?) update with 3 new stages plus who knows what, and that armors have already been datamined, it’s quite likely that in next, or following, release Ascended armor will be pushed in.
So it’s a rumor but i think there are quite few reasons to believe in it.
It’s like I’m talking to people who play an mmorpg for the first time…
Quite possible.
Gw2 pushed a lot on the casual/firstMMO crowd.
Now, how many of them are actually here on forums and have that excuse to say nonsense, it’s another story.
No one wants ascended armor.
Yet Anet will drop it in.
And yes, if i had to guess a date, November – first year of fractals dg – would be my pick.
Surely not going to bother anyway.
Inb4: Icebrood + Centaurs → Glacial Four-Legged Menace
Oh my life, a good guardian guide on the forums
Impossibru!
Party wipe = Pentakill i suppose then.
Shield skills have, like most guardian’s utility and 4/5th skill slot a very simple issue: CDs are absurdly long.
Especially compared to actual skill effect.
Shield 4 wouldn’t be too kittenkill: a conal AoE with Protection for allies and dmg. Now, aside that it could use a bump in utility (weakness/cripple to foes over simple raw dmg) , you’re looking at 3 sec Protection for a 30 (!) sec CD. 5th skill have same issue, but on top of that it’s static, reinforcing the low mobility issue.
So, either buff them (example: more dmg/offensive utility on 4) or cut off CDs.
You know, you can kill everything in the tower with full zerker too. You just need to ‘’learn to dodge’‘. Would be fun when they would release a dungeon with boss timers so you actually need to run dps specced.
Until they do that, I don’t think I’ll enjoy PvE in this game a lot…Ugh… a dps race type of boss would be horrible for this game. It would only reinforce the fallacy that dps trumps all in GW2. I like that they’re working to break that bad habit that lesser MMOs have cursed upon so many.
You do know it’s already like that, right?
Inb4: “Changed Slaying Potions tooltip to reflect actual effect”.
Why bother fix it when you can pretend it’s a feature?
Prolly about Crack Shot moved down to Adept.
Prolly adding Molten Facility + Aetherblade Retreat as promised, plus Reactor Whatever cause Ellen won (and we could have got Abaddon. I lost faith in humanity back in July…).
A concrete revamp of the glaring flaws? I wouldn’t hold my breath, like, at all.
I’d like to see people melee stacking against the AC troll.
i did it all melee, but you can’t really stack because of what I said in my last post. It will shoot all 5 ground projectiles in the same direction and if only one guy misses that dodge it will be insta-down / dead. If you spread at melee its totally doable.
Manly, you can’t stack/melee him effectively cause hes spam AoE fear inbetween projectile barrage and bouncing stun.
I wouldn’t call Gw1 a trinity game.
You had healers and protters, sure, but there was no designated tank, not taunting, no “usual tank” tools in other words. Even worse, any spell casted on “tank” moved aggro on caster of such spell, and proximity was often ingored in favour of focusing lighter armor classes or targets identified as backline by AI.
Sure, there were some limited situations were you could use a tank specced character (see: SC), but in the “regular” HM pve, you never had “the guy carrying 50 mobs on his back to keep them away from party nuking them”.
Most teambuilds relied on spirits or minions for that.
So, imo, Gw1 had a half trinity system: healers/protters backline, then free for all. Surely splitting properly roles and skill usage was able to improve dramatically the perfomances….and that’s why even in a 8-man party build skill choices of everyone were so important.
And i wouldn’t mind at all having this halfway (but greatly working) structure come back in Gw2, tbh.
Dis thread.
Just….Golden.
Guardian subforum always delivers.
Manly for skipping and resetteing a fight.
OT-
Scarlet do is terrible for real, and for a lot of reasons, btw.

Strongly disagree about swapping Ele and Mes Hp pools.
Try play both before advancing such weird suggestions.
Mesmer surely have few more tricks than Ele to avoid dmg, like Clones a couple of Stealth skills and 2 Invulnerabilities. But it’s not like Eles lacks of way to evade/mitigate dmg.
Most importantly Mesmer has also very little access to direct healing (except Restorative Mantra gimmick, and some regen here and there) and condi cleansing (Null field, Mantra and a couple of traits all toghether aren’t worth even half of Water magic line + Water attunement baseline self-support) compared to a Ele.
(assuming both bunker/tanky specced).
Aka: you’re suggesting this hp swap only out of frustration for Ele bad (and Mesmer so-so) perfomance in the game or you have actual good reasons for such change and you think it’d be beneficial for both of them?
/flameshieldup
On the other hand, Ele hp do is a issue. Either:
-give Ele that compensative “good thing” for having low hp and armor, like high dmg or high mobility or whatever
or
-up ele Hp.
Imo having low hp and armor is just fine. But Ele has been nerfed too much on core things that were justyfing those low stats. Undo some nerfs, namely things like RtL (low hp and armor: need high mobility evasion) or CW (again, i’m ok with low hp but i must have good cleansing/healing in return: i might have only 12k hp but i can replenish/save them mucu easier than other classes), and don’t move core things like Renewing stamina (nerf it if you need to, but remember to apply the same treatment across all classes). Just few examples.
If you really have to up Ele Hp, to me the best solution would be catching 2 birds with one stone, and do a global rebalance of Hp pools. Lower the gap between high (War/Nec, 18k) and low (Ele/Guard/Thief, 10,8k) Hp tiers, maybe having, instead of 18/15/10k (8k-ish gap), something like 17/15/13k (5k) or even lower gaps.
Anyway, any touch to hp pools would mean doing a massive rebalance to the prof, so it’s highly unlikely to happen imo.
Silvary, cause the rest is more or less too mainstream.
-Norn/Charr Warrior: see them everywhere
-Human Wa-: it’s Human, ’nuff said.
-Asura Warrior: the amount of ppl doing Warrior/Guardian on the tiny race is prolly even higher than ppl doing it on the big ones.
So, walking salad.
Would still be a freaking AoE STUN on a 10sec CD, given that you can regen Adrenaline fast enough. With a 600 range leap. Carrying blast finisher for utility. And with all the related adrenaline traits interaction such as Cleansing Ire (given it lands).
I wouldn’t call it weak.
I think there are like, dunno, 3 other skills across the other 7 professions which are up to par with it – but much less frequently avaible.
It surely will change Earthshaker to “Control skill with a little dmg attached” instead of “Control skill + 7k burst AoE dmg”, thus making Hammer more of a CC oriented kit rather than good for all.
Which is exactely the point of the patch.
(edited by AndrewSX.3794)
Both Molten Facility and Aetherblade Retreat, according to devs, are bound to be reworked and put in the fractal rotation.
Reworks will probably be done manly for the lenght (they’re too long for a single fractal stage – we already have dredge fractal off-scale in that way) i suppose, but who knows they’ll take care of polishing the content here and there to improve it.
This thread sounds so much like the usual 2012 “Why isn’t this MMO like WoW”.
I mean, there are issues in DGs, but if you think it’s the lack of trinity or gear focused raids and progression, then you’re doing a basic mistake.
Working as intended.
I’d start looking for another game.
Assuming you’re using the “right” build, it’s all down to how many and how much phantasms are up.
“Personal” DPS isn’t really that good.
3x Duelists/Swordsmans on same target, full buffed, are one of the highest DPS achieveable in game.
The Nec has 3 issues imo:
-mostly single target dmg. While on bosses alone this isn’t much important, it makes clearing trash with usual “stacklosandcleave” extremely uneffective. You can use some other skills to ease the issue (WellofSuffering, Life Transfer, Life Blast if traited, Locus Swarm) but the problem is still there.
-lack of self and team buffing. Self buffing is limited almost only to BloodisPower (which i’ve seen being dropped in some builds), traited Life Blast might stacks and 5sec fury on DS swap. And..that’s it. No more self buffs, no more team buffs. Which leads to…
-a zerker Necro has, most of the time, to be babysit by teammates in order to perform on par. Fury uptime is terrible, but lack of Vigor and Stability on demand are the 2 most glaring issues. It’s not alone (Guards needs external Fury too), but it’s probably the profession with biggest “burdening on teammates for offence”.
Still a fun class to play, still effective in right hands, still useful in non organized/speedrun situations, but those issues are quite annoying.
That said would take very little from anet’s part….making a necro skill cleave (read: Dagger auto please) would already improve dramatically the class imo.
Better self or team buffing would be the cherry on top, but considering how powerful is considered already in pvp (which is where we all know Anet do the balance) i fear that’s just a dream.
Tbh i’d prefer them to change mantras ground-up to be a totally different kind of skill.
Swith support build on signets, redo mantras and related traits to be somewhat useful aside Restorative/Empowered mantras gimmicks.
Implying that WvW will survive healthy enough to Season 1 for worring about Season 2.
Either move to wvw/pvp, find yourself stuff to grind, get friends to ease the boredom, or quit for a while.
Simple as that, sadly.
Holy crap you guys never cease to amaze me. So one of the warriors strongest traits, you want switched to a built in feature for warriors? These are the kinds of threads that make people roll eyes at warriors.
Actually, that’s not what everyone here is saying. Ok, well, some are. But others feel it might need the same treatment as Thief initiative, or Elemental Attunement.
In other words, Warriors are so highly dependent on it, it stops becoming a CHOICE. The same thing happened with Ele’s all going into Arcane. The fix isn’t to simply give it to all Warriors for free, it’s to provide alternative choices, and reduce the impact of that trait as a choice. In other words, spreading the love.
Be careful in what you wish.
Illusionist’s Celerity should have teached a lesson.
Little story if you’re a 24/7 war since launch and don’t know what i’m talking about: A undoubtely OP trait, reducing CD of 20% on loads of skill for only 5 pts, everybody needs and use it, ppl cry cause trait is mandatory and “kill build diversity no more a choice”, so anet what does? lower the cd of affected skills and change the trait? NOPE – move it to 25 pt trait with no compensative buff either to skills affected or trait itself. Now it’s getting moved back to 15pt, but point still stands.
The Dec. 10th patch will likely cause a fairly major rewrite, you may want to just hold off until then.
Nah, as far as these builds goes, the only real change will be freeing up 10 points by moving IC to 15pt instead of 25 for the builds using it, thus turning the 0/20/0/25/25 in 10/20/0/25/15 or 0/30/0/25/15 or 0/20/0/30/20 or whatever.
Of the other changes nearly no one is worth nothing for PvE Phant DPS builds.
Again, assuming that no other trait or skill will get changed, which is quite unlikely..
Swap it with Versatile Rage
Buff/change Versatile Rage t better suit a 15 pt trait
Done.
But tbh Fast Hands feels ok where it is to me.
As far as signets go, i wouldn’t mind at all having a mesmer version of the ele signet auramancer (i.e 20/10/10/30/0), making it a support oriented build.
Which would be fine if paired with a mantra redesign – atm useful manly for the Restorative/Empowering Mantras gimmicks.
PvE: both very good.
PvP: Mes > Ele.
Wvw, zerg: Ele > Mes. It’s not that Mes is less useful than a Ele, but being a veilbot isn’t my idea of fun, while Ele (staff) has like 15 more skills to mention in a zergfight.
WvW, roaming: Mes > Ele. Mes is a better duelist, just remember to slap something on your armor to compensate the lack of OOC movement speed.
Not surprised at all.
Tbh i’m surprised of the opposite, i mean, that they haven’t planned already for December a nerf to Mes and Guard 5pt Permavigor traits, when in the same patch they’ll cut in half Ranger endurance regen, Engi vigor uptime and move Renewing stamina (still debating on this seems tho).
Warriors by nature have a lot of survivability, and we need them to make a choice between heavy control and heavy damage.
Sorry but i respectful disagree and, moreover, i think this is a mistake you’re making in balancing.
Warrior’s baseline isn’t the survivability. It’s dmg.
You have already a class that have a good baseline survivability, it’s called Guardian, do you remember of him? But you never gave them the “You have good base suvivability, now pick up CC or Dmg” choice, he doesn’t have neither of them, so is locked in a bunker role.
By assuming Warrior’s baseline is survivability, you’re making huge mistakes in balancing, cause
a) you give them the option to spec for great CC, something Guards never had the chance to get
b) you never toned down the dmg, so by bringing up the Warrior’s survivability to be good as baseline, you now have a prof that have BOTH great dmg and decent survivability as baseline and can spec for great CC on top of it.
I know most of this points will probably be adressed in upcoming patches, and that this will sounds like a veiled “Why Warriors have all the good stuff and Guards are pigeonholed since headstart as bunker?”, but that’s another topic.
You can’t have high DMG cause guard’s baseline is a good sustain, so slapping on top of it decent DMG or cc is dangerous from a balance standpoint. Just like warrior’s can’t have good sustain or big cc cause their baseline DMG is very high ….. oh, wait.
You’re right.
But you know it’s going to happen for sure too. :p
