Sure, teammates should help out, but if I spec and gear for toughness and vitality, but the mobs ignore me most of the time, it seems a wasted effort. Not asking for a tank role or taunts, just asking for mobs to spread the love (or some better understanding of aggro mechanics).
Pretty much what your goal should be is to play hot potato. You use your control affects to make sure that your teammates aren’t getting damaged or heavily targeted. IF a teammate goes down, you want to draw the mob away so a teammate can get them up. Knockbacks are wonderful for this.
Basically I would suggest choosing weapons and utilities that are controlling affects. It seems very much that either damage or controlling a mob draws their argo towards you.
No it will not be deleted. It’ll remain in the “rooster” area. You can click represent to talk to the guildies in that guild if you need to or access the guild bank.
Well that’s good thing to know when screen capping.
It would help if mobs didn’t tend to focus one person the entire fight. There’s only so many escape abilities/dodges before you either kite or face tank the mob.
your teammates are suppose to be using their control affects on the mobs too. Not just you. They are being bad teammates if they aren’t. If I see my teammate use two dodge moves/attacks – the next thing I’m doing is using my #4 skill overcharged shot on the mob to toss it on the other side of the room. Because clearly at that point – my teammate only has one dodge move at most left – which is bad.
Why l2p when you can play a class that kills people before they can react?
because expecting that 100% of the time is foolhardy and in a even fight (more likely to happen) – you’ll just get flat out murdered every single time.
uhm this game practically throws xp at you, not that I’m complaining….but why on earth are people even doing stuff like this? I swear, some people are just completely ridiculous.
Really, why? Just why even do this?
I have no idea either. Pretty silly in my opinion. Besides how are you going to be good on that alt when you do decide to bring it to WvW or dungeon runs if you do that.
Or go to tpcalc.com
Input what you bought the item at and desired sell price… bam – you now know how much profit your making.
It’s a sad thing when people need websites to actually calculate these kinds of things.
What I’d rather see, is that the 15% is taken into account when checking if an item is ‘under the vendor price’. It’s utterly rediculous that the game checks for you if you’re not shooting yourself in the foot, only to cut it off when you actually do sell something.
I rather as well, but this was my solution since I’m not very math savvy. I rather have the tax be included in the calculation or at least listed as Sales Tax: ____ right under listing price.
coordination is the key. Many classes have control skills or weapons or utility slots. Not hard to use them. On my dungeon runs – we have designated people to do certain things. Be it Add clean up etc. Usually because I’m on my engineer I get thrown the job of keeping another large boss mob busy while one gets murdered. Another person gets Add duty, while the other three tackle the boss.
Kiting is the solution because the whole basis of this game is always being on the move. You stay still, you die. That’s pretty much how the game was advertised. Learn to Adapt and adjust your play-style.
(edited by AndrewWaltfeld.4621)
Asura cause they are awesome. Plus golems. epic golems.
So, after carefuly checking the TP before vendoring each item I now need to check the prices at 85% of listed value vs. the vendor price?
…
Or go to tpcalc.com
Input what you bought the item at and desired sell price… bam – you now know how much profit your making.
you aren’t the only one and it does need to be clearly advertised.
I follow you Pandemoniac, but if downscaling is not posing a challenge, than it loses it’s purpose I fear.
Yes, it should be risky for a lvl 80 in a lvl 20 zone…
the purpose of down scaling is being able to play with new friends without leveling an alt character. That’s about it imo. Everything else is icing on the cake. It’s simply to make things so you aren’t exactly one shotting everything in existence and your friend gets limited exp.
I do agree with the scaling of rewards and possibly a difficult setting in terms of how much downscaling occurs. that would make things more interesting.
To be honest, I would be happy with a max party size of 10 or 12. You always have those odd wheels that want to join but aren’t able.
As much as there are ways to work around this, I still feel the current guild communication system is still flawed compared to other MMOs. I still want to be able to chat and announce at the same time, to be fully ensured the information gets through. And having to keep whisper each officer all the time when I need to talk to several at the same time is also abit annoying when I might have to step down to /party in order to do so, when they could’ve just made an /officer chat or similiar?
I hate to be one of those guys but… Just look at what World of Warcraft did in this matter.
To be honest, as a prior guild leader. Making sure your officers talk to people in your guild about your announcements is the only sure way of getting thru to people. Not everyone pays attention to the chat. It’s just a fact. Often times in guilds I’ve run, I’ve simply had a filter down system, I Talk to my officers, my officers in turn have their group of assigned people to message/talk to. Makes life a lot simpler.
Suggestion: Setup a VOIP mumble. People will be able to join and talk etc. Be much easier communication wise as well. Plus mumble is free… you’ll just need to find a server to host it on. It doesn’t take much bandwidth usage either.
ooOOOooo…….HooOOOow doOOOo yOOou do.
Quaggan loOOOoove yoOOOou.
You read this in Quaggan voice.
GAH. curse you.
Anyone else feel that your weapon decides how you’re going to play? Like how most staves are used for support, etc. I feel that the 1-5 skills for each weapon should have interchangeable options.
Doesn’t matter to engineers. Our Utilities are what determines how we play (Kits/Gadgets etc)
I suspect digital sales have got to the point where they substantially outweigh box sales. That’s the world we live in.
Sadly, GW2 cannot kill WoW. Maybe that’s because WoW is undead rather than being alive. If ever there was a game resembling and unstoppable zombie, WoW is it.
GW2 on the other hand (to me) resembles a member of a Star Trek away team we’ve not seen before. It only remains to find out if he is one of the ones who turns out to be the guest star of the episode, or is he the nameless schmuck who gets phasered 5 mins into the story.
I thought that was SWTOR?

That happens when many people post items at the same time as you, which isn’t uncommon.
Of course some kind of clarification from an insider would be awesome.
That would be true…except you know… if there’s only me and 2 other sellers listed. So I toss in my order – I see now three sellers. According to your proposal of what it currently – it means my order should be completed first… but it’s not. When the sellers don’t change before or after, I’m not buying that because this isn’t the first or last time it happened to me. This is on multiple occasions. Yes there is a slight chance another seller could finish his order and another replaces him at same time. It’s entirely possible. However this has happened on multiple occasions where the market itself is not moving along for that to happen.
Asura aren’t bad if you are kiting a lot with the engineer. The dodge animations etc for the Asura and the pistol/shield for them look pretty awesome. Yes their size means you can’t exactly show off your cool armor, but for me – I don’t mind that to be honest. I prefer not to be noticed in WvW.
I don’t understand the reference. Why would Valve sue?
engineers in TF2. Also in order for copyright infringement to occur, we need to whack them with the wrenches to upgrade them and use supply. :P
Wow is still alive and kicking it’s not killed. In fact it’s doing better than GW2, a lot better. Just saying.
I dunno, seems to be a long since dead horse that is still alive. Just hasn’t fallen over yet. I give blizzard where credit is due – but the game at least personally for me ended up getting very boring and the grind way too much. Not to mention the raiding community has a stick up it’s kitten.
The players on WoW are on WoW not because it’s still good – but because there isn’t many better games on the market. Another reason why it’s still alive is because of the sheer amount of content it has accumulated and new MMO’s simply can’t compete with that.
I don’t mind you asking, actually, thank you for asking.
Whether on my own or with other players, whether in a party or not, you can pretty much just go 123, 123, 123 over and over. Then you’re done and move to the next thing (NOTE: I’m not saying I do this, I’m saying I could). Even world bosses don’t require much thought or coordination.Yesterday a person came to Lion’s Arch to ask for more people for Dwayna’s statue event in Straits of desolation. 4 people join him (I was one). We go do the event. 5 people only, and it was just super easy. Kite, Spam 1 2 3, Rinse and Repeat until dead.
Look at GW1. Right in the tutorial area where you spawn when you make a fresh character (pre-searing Ascalon), you could just get the secondary profession and then hurry to post-searing Ascalon, but if you lingered in the tutorial area and went to Catacombs on your own, you had to thread carefully. If you went with another person, you had to talk with each other about how to proceed. If you crossed the northern wall, you discussed with each other how to go about it. And that’s just the tutorial area!
You left the tutorial area, and you do story quests and missions. Every single story mission in that campaign required thought and coordination between players, even the beginner ones.
Now, I don’t know how it goes in other open-world MMOs, but just because it’s open world, does it have to be so brainless that each person just has to auto-attack? I feel like a monkey among a million monkeys spamming 1.
So I try to play during off-hours so it’s just me fighting, at-least that way it becomes marginally more interesting.
But I didn’t buy this game to play solo :S If I knew I’d be playing solo I’d just have kept playing Elder Scrolls.
Even if I ask on map chat for more help because I’m alone, they come, yes, but all we have to do is spam attack until the enemies are dead.
It’s just not that fun to me. I miss GW1. Group coordination was great.
I see – yeah I can understand that feeling. To be honest, that’s always one of the problems I had with MMO’s was the skill cool-downs and such but few games are rarely able to pull off something that doesn’t involve it. I remember Global Agenda was a nice game that pulled a bit from the cooldowns but there was enough game for it to be fun. I got bored relatively quickly.
I think also games are progressively getting easier as our gaming population is increasingly getting better at games. The difficulty levels for some games are a joke. Some enemies are difficult, yes but other’s aren’t. Then because of the gaming population having new gamers added, we are having a hard time as a gaming community finding games that are middle of the road, it’s either easy or extremely hard mode. We have people who don’t want it extremely hard and others that want it to be hard as nails to play.
Story on SWTOR was decent. Some of the classes got kittened out of good story I think. Comparing some of the stories you could tell what got more attention and others got half-baked attention. cough Trooper cough
Guild wars 2 story is remarkably good. I have enjoyed it so far. It’s not engrossing as SWTOR but it’s not as mandatory either which is nice in it’s own way. I will give SWTOR credit though where due – some of the stories were very well done and very fun to play. It’s just a pity the rest of the game wasn’t up to snuff. It did bring many good concepts to the table that forced other MMO developers to consider implementing them.
I already do try to talk on /map and /say chat.
Sounds crazy right? Bet you didn’t think someone would actually try before posting on the forum, uh?
But I’m not talking about chatting. If I wanted to chit-chat about random things I’d pick up the phone and call my best friend or my brother.
You’ll be surprised on these forums what people don’t typically try out before posting.
I’m talking about making game play with others more meaningful, having to think how to go about things, having to coordinate efforts. You know, like you had to in GW1, even simple missions like Ruins of Surmia or Fort Ranik.
Hmmm So how would find gameplay to be more meaningful for you? I guess if talking to people in mapchat and eventually doing group events with them doesn’t cut it – what does then? If you don’t mind me asking.
As Kopipoki pointed out, it’s fairly easy – just keep in mind the 15% trading post cost.
I suggest looking at http://www.tpcalc.com/ for a trading post calculator to help calculate profit margins etc.

take the copper, report, delete. Dont worry about the copper. Anet has said they won’t punish you for taking it.
gamebooster will help you out by reducing the number of programs you don’t need running in the background. I reccomend checking out the program. I had it on my desktop to help it run Guild Wars 2 better. Saw 30% performance increase. Of course – my desktop is about 8 years old and I just got a new laptop last week.
How about uninstalling the program that messed everything up?
Also reccomend getting Game booster instead. Much more solid program and doesn’t mess up with your system.

I have approx 4 fans so I dont think airflow is an issue, I routinely clean my computer’s dust out. I have a decent graphics card ; My settings are not on high they are simply on medium. I should be able to run this game on medium no problem, FPS is not an issue though.
Hmmm… get a temp program to monitor your GPU/CPU/RAM etc (Many windows 7 gadgets lying around that do that) – and test bed in both other games and in guild wars 2. See what’s up.
By the way, mind posting your computer specs and how old the parts are?
Thanks for the snapshot from 8 years ago. As of today I have nothing to do in Gw2. And hell, id even faction grind at this point.
You do make Blizz sound very devious and present a few things that if true would be.
Here is a conspiracy the other way around.
Anet says it needs to combat botting and speed runs by implementing DR. DR spills into every aspect of the game (WvW, Des, Farming,Dungeons) and this kills most of the ways players choose to make gold. All of this for the bots and “exploiters”.
Yet the same bots who have been reported hundreds of times are still there. Same names, same bots. Now are those bots still there for an excuse to keep the DR and force limited playtime people into the cash shop or? DR in WvW…do we have botting going on there?
I’m just curious as to who’s making the most money off these bots…the bot owners(whoever they may be) or Anet.
To be honest, I suspect the reasoning of why they are keeping the bots active at the moment is for that specialized team they formed to make the application they are designing. Rather than ban them out right, they are using the bots against the farmers themselves as test-beds for their program. I suspect once the program is done, we’re going to see a firestorm of banning.
Ironically, the gold farmers are helping them design the tools Anet will be using to find them.

Our monitoring of ‘bot’ activity has already resulted in over 1600 account terminations world-wide in the last week alone, and we are actively tracking the most common ‘bots’ in use, so that we can continue to eliminate them from the game. As we continue to gather information on these ‘bots’, we will be increasing the rate of account termination to remove them. Please continue to report players that you suspect of ‘botting’ – your support is much appreciated.
We are actively improving our means of detecting ‘bot’ activity in the game automatically. This includes tools for our customer support team to help them verify ‘botting’ reports and efficiently issue account terminations. Recently we have also hired a team of data specialists who will be helping us create more effective tools for analyzing reports of ‘botting.’
I would call Anet devious indeed in this regard.
Maybe your right but the bots in ORR went from 5 to 10 to 15 to 20+ all of them in one event cremating the mobs faster then you can blink your eyes! If the DR was such a great system bots wouldn’t be multiplying. But the fact is the player base is dwindling and bots are multiplying. I have been playing MMO’s since June of 99 and in all my years I have never seen so many bots in one game. You can’t go anywhere worth while in this game with out running into bots. Something needs to be done NOW not latter!
P.S. if your right and there working on a mass ban I am going to go out on a limb and say 60k+ accounts get banned for botting across all servers!
True. It could very well be they are allowing simply tagging all the bots and keeping track of their movements then comparing them to regular players. This would allow them to develop tools to track and identify botters. As well all know, there is only so much you can do with bot programs, A frog has a bigger IQ than bots. So it could be they are using it to ensure that their program isn’t catching real players in the mix as well.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all to be honest. It’s slightly in genius plan. Either the botters lay low or contribute to the data stream to help identify their bots better. Either hurts the gold sellers profit margins.
Because mass banning bots in waves has worked in the past amiright? 2 days later, after slightly altering the bot script, they are right back at it again. Game after game after game this has been tried and used. Has it solved the problem? No.
Active policing by actual people is the only truly effective tool against botting. But it costs more money.
Devious? I think not. More along the lines of failing to learn from the mistakes of other games.
shrugs and your assuming they wouldn’t tackle the problem from multiple angles like having live people track them down? It seems to me that’s precisely what they are doing, but making sure the people who tracking down the bots have the tools necessary to do their jobs properly.

Is anyone else experiencing this? If so could it be due to my GPU and is that my fault or possibly just a lack of optimization thus far? meaning it could be fixed in the future.
usually means something is wrong with your computer, be it airflow, poor fans etc. GW2 likes to push things, I suggest customizating your graphic settings to fit your computer specs.
- When will they change PvE so people actually are encouraged to team up? Whether I’m alone on the whole map or surrounded by 50 players in one event, this games feels lonely. The other players might as well be NPCs.
I’m already considering turning off all the chats as if the chat box wasn’t there, because honestly there’s no point even having it.
After that I just set myself to Invisible, because there’s no point being set to Online. If they intended GW2 to be a solo RPG, then I will play it like one instead of fooling myself that it’s a social game.
Suggestion: Spark some conversation on the map chat. Sounds crazy right? You’ll feel a lot less lonely. I’ve started doing this and there has been times I’ve stayed in a zone hours longer than I normally would have just because of the conversation I’ve been having in it. Not to mention – once someone kicks over the boulder and starts talking, everyone else is going to want to join in. Soon enough you’ll have at least a dozen or two dozen people chatting and eventually doing events together.
You can easily turn into a social game if you wish. Sometimes you just got to be the pebble that starts the ripples. The choice is yours.
rather hear that then “I can run as fast as a Centaur!”
when you go to another game and wonder why your double tap to evade key isn’t working.
Probably because some animal rights activist says it promotes real life animal fighting or something.
I was hoping to get opinions about what people think is an expected time frame. Instead it seems most people are kind of upset I even pose the question.
it depends on the problem
So I’ll give two answers.
Bugs – Depending upon the severity of the problem – A week maybe 2, 3 if it’s serious.
Bots – Cluster-kitten of a problem. No easy answer or solution. To be honest, it might be more feasible to simply have dev’s running around the various zones that bots frequent and manually ban-hammering them. Eventually… they will run out of accounts.
Really, I would see it being effective if they did a combination of what they are they currently doing and doing this.
I went to play another game the other day and being unable to dodge, time my blocks/blinds manually etc made me feel like I was playing an easy childproof game.
I did the same thing the other day, I was like “why is there no dodge key!”

not to mention programming is not as simple as people seem to think it. It’s not like you can viola fix it. Programming is a complex and often painful experience debugging as you have to sift thru dozens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of lines of code to find that needle.(Quote button ran away)
What, didn’t you hear? 2/3 of the players are coders/used to work for an MMO. Seriously. Have you seen how many times people throw that out there?
Of course I heard. It’s my WIP BS degree and I’m dealing with simple programming projects with only a few hundred lines. :P
Tho on a more serious note – it’s not something to ignore either. It’s a very real problem and for things as large as guild wars 2 – it’s often very time consuming. To ignore that statement or say it is irrelevant is stupidity. Not that have you said such a thing – just pointing that detail out.
(edited by AndrewWaltfeld.4621)
For a MMO so over run by bugs. One patch a week isn’t going to cut it out.
I’ve seen far worse games to be honest. This MMO launch and play has by far – been one of the smoothest I’ve seen. SWTOR was down right irritating for example with it’s bugs that prevented you from progressing thru a entire zone. At least in GW2 you can just ignore the story bug if it happens and just continue the zone normally.
not to mention programming is not as simple as people seem to think it. It’s not like you can viola fix it. Programming is a complex and often painful experience debugging as you have to sift thru dozens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of lines of code to find that needle.
Real men wear kilts.
Finally a game that gives me kilts again and you want them to change it? Do you realize how many years I’ve been waiting for this?! No! :P
deep Scottish accent Aye laddie, they want to remove our heritage and sign of manhood! Hmmm the real question is what gender are you talking about? talking in general terms is not usually good.
edit – right now my engineer is wearing pants… and most of the armor options is some form of pants. So I’m not sure what your talking about. Unless your talking about female characters.
I was fighting 1v1 vs someone underwater and I was so pumped to switch to auto attack grenades. All they had to do was strafe swim sideways and every single one of my grenades missed! I thought we were supposed to dominate underwater? Extremely disappointed. I think the book is out on Engineer underwater combat.
I found it best to literally spam the grenades underway in every direction, it forces other players to dodge constantly and eventually, they simply run out of evasion. Then you just hit em with everything. The biggest thing is not to use your special nades until they have evaded twice. Then you let out the harder hitting grenades.
Hmm..I never really tried out the Engineer, how is their survivability?
Depends on your build, but in general, kite and control like a boss. My current engineer build has decent damage and control abilities so I’m pretty much just running around and kiting doing lots of damage. The class is extremely flexibility in what it can do and switching your skill slots usually means no need to change your trait tree.
This one is pretty easy.
Q: IF i’m down leveled to lvl 4, when then am I paying more that I did as a level 4 to travel in and around a lvl 4 zone?
because you can way-point to a level 80 or other higher level area at a level 4 cost would mean people would travel to lowbie zones only to take advantage of the low waypoint fee.
Message to Trading Post developers. Please Change LIFO system (stack) by a FIFO (queue)
Posted by: AndrewWaltfeld.4621
No to the FIFO system as it people would clog up the system with large orders that prevent people from getting their orders done as well or would take forever. Effectively making price blocking a tactic.
As for the LIFO system… as far as I know it doesn’t work like that. Because I’ve posted items after people and the numbers are ticking down as people buy 1 or 3 or whatever, the sellers don’t change – but I was the last in. So I don’t get my goods sold.
But as far as carrying over the sigil from your main hand, why do we lose the ability to have different kinds of sigils?? Engineers dont have and skills tht equal most sigil buffs
other classes can have up to 4 different sigils all together ( i know not all of them) so its bad enough tht right now we dont get any for kits, but having the one from our main hand just carried over doesnt seem fair either.Seems like having a kit slot that you can attach a sigil to tht would work on all your kits would be more equal.
If its the 1 sec CD tht kits get tht makes it so they take up a utility slot, dont offer stats and dont offer sigils then pls make it so kits have the same CD as secondary weapons
Because unlike other classes, we can be absurdly broken and overpowered far more easily than other classes because of our flexibility. It takes much more in-depth testing for our profession than any other because of this.
Changing the cool-down for changing kits would mean a drastic overhaul to the basic design to the class. The engineer class is defined by our utility skills we choose where other classes their weapons define them.
We are a class where changing a single utility skill most likely means nothing to us. I have in dungeons where I have my changed my utility skills at least 3 times to fit the room we’re entering or boss we are facing without the need to change traits. These changes changed the entire play-style of my engineer in how I did combat with enemies. Other classes would be essentially playing the same with minor changes.
TL;DR: The engineer class wouldn’t be the engineer class anymore with that cool down change.
