Wow, this looks epic. Its going to be sad to see old LA ruins be destroyed even more than they were though.

Nervous and stoked at the same time, something I haven’t felt with GW in a long time. Going to take this time to explore LA with another character and take as many screenshots as I can!

OP, if you want to play a Ranger, get comfortable with roaming, ignore all haters/critiques and really get comfortable in 1v1 / 1v2s.

Ranger class can be a lot of fun with 1v1 / 1v2s (Don’t run bow and bear). Contrary to popular belief rangers can be good solo’ers.

Yup, Warriors and Guardians are completely out of control. Far too much utility and variety was given to these classes while next to nothing has been given to others. Hell, the entire medium armor segment may as well not even exist outside of roaming right now.

Game lacks any direction or focus and I have no faith in ANet getting it turned around. I mean check out ANet’s responses to the Ranger forum… glaring class issues that have been an issue since day 1 aren’t even on their radar and they have no interest in fixing anything but low hanging fruit in which the class has none.

I’ve got my Warrior I run with now and will have my guardian to 80 by the time the December patch comes around to nerf Warriors (which is just going to move more over to condi/regen as opposed to hammer/crit builds which is just as op.

Warrior, Guardian, Necro, or bust is the name of the game.

Watched a ranger outplay a warrior yesterday 1v1, drained him dry. No “OP” was called from either side.

Also see mesmers and thieves school warriors in 1v1 all day long like its noones business.

You can’t earn respect from a forever changing zerg. They are called zergs for a reason.
tl;dr People would rather fail forever than degrade themselves by following orders from a random guy that had 100g because even if said guy explains tactics in detail he’s just not the boss of anyone!
I spammed map chat with the advanced tactic of ranging warden 3. Guess what happened. Guess!

Not true, depending on your server, commanders can earn much respect, especially in a small WvW community such as AR.

There are a few commanders that gather mass amounts of support when they start leading, others have a few randoms, but not garnish the same support as when the respected com is on. Maybe in large wvw you don’t see this, but in some, it’s definitely noted.

In regards to WvW, Any class that beats you is OP. Unless it was a ranger, then you usually cut your computer off and act like you were going AFK anyways.

But yea, Everyone’s OP.

In PvE, There is no incentive to run anything but Beserker do to Max DPS, and since warrior can do that effectively, people claim OP war. I think that’s more of a design flaw that the most effective end game pve content is one role, and thats Beserkers.

Since warrior is a standard heavy class in most RPGs, they are the most attractive to players (hence #1 played class in both GW2 and GW1) and designed to less difficult to master.

Truth be told, a good player is a good player. I’ve downed a warrior with my ranger just because he/she had no inclination on how to counter/dodge etc. Spam all skills instantly which leads to being useless.

People also claim ele is very underpowered but I’ve seen certain eles be extremely good in WvW, and tear warriors to shreads.

and yea, mesmers? A good mesmer usually outplays warrior do to cooldowns

“Aside from the potential problems coming up with messing up LA, couldn’t Anet just tack on Zhaitan’s 2nd coming as additional PS?”

Because it makes no sense for anyone who hasn’t completed the personal story if Zaitan comes a second time. Everything in the personal story is Zaitan. Everything that is Zaitan is in the personal story. The Living Story is deliberately excludes Orr and Zaitan so that the timeline remains ambiguous for each player.

Except that the living story timeline hasn’t been ambiguous for a long time.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_summary
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Timeline

With the increase in Tequatl’s power, there’s even less doubt about it. There was even ingame dialogue where npc’s speculate if the fall of Zhaitan could have made Tequatl stronger.

Considering how many people, both in this thread and outside, are touting the whole “LS can’t have big effects because it would interfere with the PS”, I hope the “nothing is sacred” line we got refers to Arenanet’s decision to keep PS and LS separated.
Nothing would demonstrate that better as the complete annihilation of LA, though personally I doubt they would go that far since no game developer has ever gone that far before for the sake of story.

It wouldn’t bother me if the entirety of LA was altered or removed, but the overall to correct both personal story and annual events seems to great for the reward. Just my 2c

Don’t think it would be Livia, since it was stated Marjory felt no “Necromancer” powers.

I’m thinking outside the box here, but just from my observations of the new mostly unknown race “largos”. Their interesting style and profound knowledge of the world is more than what we currently know it seems. Is it possible a Largos is actually working in the background? Maybe with assistance of the OoW?

I don’t think it’s any of the current major characters though, they all have billets to fill, and none of them I would suspect to have time for a “second job”.

This “E” seems to stay out of the way, more so an informant and bystander to all that happens. Whoever this character is, they have manged to keep a keen eye on many characters without a hitch.

Whoever E is, he/she has great connections but with no known connections.

Degrading comments? I was simply questioning whether or not the poster had actually paid attentions to the Halloween event, seeing as he claimed that it was “so kid-ish”, which is rather clearly not the case if you would actually pay attention to it.

I just find it silly to complain about stuff, when you clearly didn’t pay attention to it in the first place.

Firstly,
I have not complained about any halloween related events in this thread, so stating I didn’t pay attention is obsured.

Secondly,
His opinion is his opinion, who are you to say he didn’t pay attention? Maybe he feels the content is too obscure in expressing the true darkness of content he seeks, or that it possessed too much “carnival” type content.

All I’m saying is, I’ve noted your snarky/degrading attack to a direct post much more than once, which was not needed/ constructive. Especially from someone who spends more time than the average poster in these forums and is well aware on what is or isn’t a disrespectful post.

You obviously disagree with him/her, which is fine, but instead of providing information on why you think so, it was just pointed that said poster didn’t pay attention, without conclusive information.

Again, after months of the same type of degrading comments, you continue to do so.

Instead of attacking Royal for stating his/her opinion with a snarky remark, why not provide a link of what you’re referring to. You assume this player “listened” to whatever your referring to. Not sure how an attack can be attempted at an opinion as light as Royals, but I guess it can be done.

Commando class is next class in GW2.

Equipped with an M4 + grenade launcher (noob tube in FPS games), claymores, and even gets to pick perks instead of traits!

This class will even get a choice on a new companion!! the TANK or HELO

Needless to say, I’m stoked to own some warriors.

Thief thinks he’s going to stealth? NP, Throw out some claymores and get the grenade launcher out.

Mesmer with clones? Again, NP get the Sentry gun out. It’s all applicable in the new class. Tyria will be changed forever.

Probably anything that interferes with personal story won’t be touched. And there are personal story instance entrances across the entirety of LA. And the rotating holiday events that they apparently worked so hard to create as a “buffer” would have to be redone too, if they significantly changed even a portion of the city.

Sadly, I don’t think Anet is willing to put in that kind of planning. It’ll just be more “The world changed, but only in a personal instance” type of deal.

I did like the idea of the dominion of winds being opened accidentally though. I think that would be possible. We manage to redirect some attack intended for LA and it explodes the dominion wall.

I agree with you. The center of LA I don’t see changed, but the other parts could certainly be up for grabs. That would be a lot of extra re-work and leave inconsistencies in the original story if LA is severely altered/changed. But who knows.

Glad others felt the same way about old LA being destryoed. I was not happy to see that probe there. But meh, do whatever they wish with it.

From my expereriences though, when something I like get’s a lot of hype, I usually get let down, so I am playing it collective. I’m sure it will “change” tyria, but no the way everyone expects.

Dr. Ritter,

It’s truly a shame others are shunning your opinion about how you feel about it, I think yours and every other opinion is valid. Regardless of how some feel, it’s a very controversial topic depending on you’re beliefs. So sorry you have to be shunned for not thinking the same as others.

In my opinion, as I’ve stated in another post, the relationship doesn’t personally bother me, but the cutscenes are a little too intimate and awkward for me, it makes me feel “outside” of what their thinking is, maybe it’s because I’m a straight male, I’m not sure. I’m not into anything real soft and sweet though, so that could be it as well. I’m more into Rytlocks style, or Eir.

Cannot change the inevitable, but my gripe is the fact that changes like this go into effect with seemingly no consideration to players who purchased gear based on a certain specification.

Making major statistic overhauls in the second year of a major MMO is a bust in my opinion.

This stat has been viable in the game since the release in August, 2012. Now it’s a big issue? Overhauls like this should have been addressed earlier, rather than later as now many players who spec’d this have to either conform to the new stat, or re-trait all together.

Of course, if you run conditions this doesn’t apply to you, so of course you could care less about this change.

Antara.3189

I’ve been seeing this argument about how the content isn’t challenging, it’s in coordination, which is very true, but how much coordination is needed?

With all of the players trying this content, please remember there is vast variations in the type of knowledge, skill level, and play type everyone has. Challenging content is good, but more specifically I would say it’s great for instanced areas, such as dungeons, fractals, etc. Those areas require team preparations, and organized roles to achieve said area.

In open world when you bring content such as the above into an area that is first come first serve, you can only do your best to organize the players. You don’t choose those players, they are there with you, whether they listen or not.

So when content requires precise coordination to complete, and you’re in the open world with many other players, it becomes a far stretch to complete in the timely manner required. The response that TTS can do it, or large servers can do it every so often is really invalid because you have to respect that it’s open world and many players are roaming around. The maps where these bosses have been installed are not even end game maps, but more so character building maps (or were).

I want to conclude with one more thing. These “coordinated” bosses in the open world have just been introduced to many players, so this is a whole new level of game play compared to the older bosses. There was no building to this point, it went from bosses like "Shatterer to “Tequatl”. That’s a full swing on the spectrum. You don’t “zerg” these bosses, which is great, but there has to be an introduction to content like this.

Building a boss with the same mechanics but a lower player requirement would be a better way to introduce a new style of content, or even better a large instanced environment.

Throwing player who are used to spamming skills into now “highly coordinated” events just creates mass confusion and trolling from players who are used to said content.

But at the end of the day, I guess it’s irrelevant.

From my experience, I have only known very (let me bold this) LARGE guilds (aka TTS) to do the Tequatl fight in an efficient manner. And it took a lot of organizing, and time from people to get that going. Granted, servers were beating him during the month of that release.

Now I have gone across servers around prime time to see if they are doing it. I have only seen a couple of times, and I know TTS will fill up a map to start an OF to get people in.

So I can’t say how many people are beating Teq, but I haven’t seen many open world completions. If the ratio for servers beating Teq daily are good, then I must be fooled somewhere.

I ran with both TTS and BG late last night (11PM EST) to complete both Marionette and The Wurms. With TTS we beat Marionette by a close call, due to one lane collapsing inside, but we managed it. Unfortunately the “cheer” achievement was bugged in OF so we couldn’t do that, but at least we got the chest.

On the terms of the Wurms however, it’s been highly unsuccessful. And we had majority of BG in TS and collaborated on what to do. I think the wurms averaged around 95 percent health, even though our Commanders were highly informational.

In my humble opinion, if a large open world event such as this fails more than it completes, then it’s not fun, and not successful content.

It shouldn’t be a wipe, but it shouldn’t be broken across the backs of players either.

Instanced, 5-16 man bosses sound like a better time.

High difficulty = good

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Antara.3189

Antara.3189

I only want to make one statement regarding the new ideology around open world “raid” type bosses, such as the worms and Tequatl.

The concept around challenging, strategic content is sound and I wholeheartedly agree, but when you take fights such as these and require many players to coordinate together without the proper in game tools, then it becomes more of a finger pointing contest than anything else.

You shouldn’t need 3rd party VoIP to do these bosses, which in most cases is always needed (I think VoIP is the way to go for any in game content personally). Also having a requirement of so many players to achieve one of these world events is also a downfault.

In a nutshell it’s easier to organize a 5-16 man party for an instanced boss/event, than it is an open world server full of random players. You also have the issue of long ques /overflows and wait times for these bosses if you want to even get in, requiring guild runs to be hopefully set up on a overflow, and hope you have a big enough guild to even achieve that after a couple months.

All and all the design and goal for the bosses is fantastic, but the reality is not.

Sorry.

Well in all fairness, I think it was perceived that players “cling” to one or the other due to one not being attractive.

When I would read through the patch notes, sometimes I would think the living story didn’t sound appealing, but oh man that new feature sounds amazing, so I would ignore the other.

But in general, it wasn’t the combined update that made majority of the Living Story unappealing, it was the story itself.

Like I stated in another thread.

I was given a bunch of the pieces to this supposed plot, but had no “glue” to put them together, which would have given me a better understanding on what’s going on. This current story has me waiting to get “smacked” in the face with the glue that puts everything into perspective.

So in reality, by the time we figure out everything we will get excited and say hey! but in the same time it’s over. So the enjoyment of the entire story was held off until over a year later.

Granted, I enjoyed some of the updates. Flame and Frost was a cool opening to the story, it just got beaten down by the whole “Scarlet did it” idea.

As far as the AP Grind is concerned, that’s totally optional and the rewards are don’t give me an advantage over anyone else, being purely a cosmetic reward. If the content itself is good, then I will naturally achieve those AP’s.

If your’re goal is to get all of the APs out of the updates, why complain about the grind? Cause if you look at the APs as the reward, then it does seem to be a grind, as you’re blowing through content just to reach the end goal of “5-10AP”

Like carving 250 pumpkins. I might hit a couple if its near me, but as it doesn’t benefit me in any way, I will not be running around maps slicing pumpkins. But that’s my choice.

I see nothing wrong with the AP system personally

One thing I would have like to seen is an episode specifically tied to discovering Scarlet AKA Ceara. An update where we investigated her early contacts to build an understanding. We were provided with too many occurences I think, Krait, Flame Legion, Dredge, Pirates, robots, chaos, etc.

It’s just weird that I see where they provided deph, but at the same time there’s no deph. I need something to go off, but I just have random pieces of the plot in front of me with no glue. So I sit here staring at all the pieces and wait for the glue to hit me in the face.

I would rather get pieces, but also a tab of glue to piece some of the smaller stuff together, just to say “Hey!, it looks like we are on to something here”. This is just mass confusion.

And no offense to this idea, but trying to relate to “The Game of Thrones” creates the wrong vision. Why not create your own vision and style? Why try and match something that has already been achieved? Maybe take some of the great points that makes the series eye catching, but don’t match it paper to paper. Especially since I don’t have a DVR to record the Living Story series.

Give LS Finale a Chance

Mia,

There are a few reasons I have not been fond of the story. I will list my reason.

  • The introduction of many new characters, with no previous relation in Tyrian History.

While not a bad thing that the world is getting new, rising heroes and villains, there were many unanswered stories that got left in the wind, and many other heroes to expand on.

  • The sparadic, slow pace of the story

I believe the beginning of the story (F&F) started off well, though F&F started slow in its own right, to start a story with unknown causes of the plot create suspense and excitement. When we finished F&F we started a new chapter in Southsun. At the time the only clear connection was the settlers, with ArenaNet stating there was more that meets the eye going on that noone saw. I excepted that and we found ourselves face to face with a plot within the consortium to profit off of the refugees. We also meet our suspected villain, Canach. But he ended up being a minor, random element within the whole picture. We then have a Dragon Bash celebrating against dragons, getting our minds on a new dragon. But we meet another villain (Mai) and the link to the Aetherblades, a new rising force, seemingly unrelated to Southsun and F&F at the time. After 3 months we realize somehow the Molten Alliance and Aetherblades are connected with the release of Sky Pirates. But then we go to another new plot regarding Zephyrites and the Bazarr. Our minds became drawn to something else, like cantha, dragons, etc.

We were then presented with Cutthroat politics, regarding politics in LA. Again our minds became drawn away from not only zephyrites and canthans, but putting the F&F and Aetherblades out of our minds.

Only until August we get back into the original story, when we are presented with Scarlet, which was handed to us, we didn’t solve anything, she was just thrown in our laps after all the time with no inclantation of who it was, besides a “she”.

Now focused on her, we realize she’s not just a villain, but one of the “smartest” sylvari on the planets with the goal to destroy. We get these massive outbreaks of her clockwork minions like this was a finale.

Then again, we are taking completely away from the story into a patch revolved around the Super Adventure Box. After that we get another update regarding Teq, with the only apparent connection to anything we previously saw in LS was Rox. Meanwhile we are told all of this is related, but we don’t know how yet.

It wasn’t until Twilight Assault and after that we started getting more deph on Scarlet and her apparent building of a massive evil army. But in the midst of this long drawn out story, we still have no conclusive plot to why she’s doing this. Not until the very end.

To me, I came into the each update thinking “Okay I want to find out where this is connected to the last update” but come out thinking “How in the world was this connected?” but after Scarlet was revealed everything became bland because it was defined as “Oh, Scarlet did this and we just cleaned after her mess”.

This ending might truly be epic, and I hope it is. Even if I was letdown by the majority of the story, the ending could at least provide a proper conclusion to this whole thing.

So in retrospect OP and others also wondering about the QoL of Rangers in dungeons. Take the time to figure out how you prefer the end game content. Look through the ranger section of this forum and ask opinions with others to draw your own conclusion on how you prefer to play.

But I can tell you, despite what some have stated on this thread, there has and is players who have taken weapon combinations and builds some would not deem viable, and maximized the efficiency of said build. It takes time to thoroughly define a build you’re comfortable with, and everyone has a different taste.

Ranger is the center of heated effiency debates do to the nature of having the pet as the rangers main mechanic to the class. Some might decide to look at other classes that seem easier to play (i.e, warrior) since the ranger takes patience and understanding.

Personal attacks aside, in no way shape or form did I state I do not want to improve the Quality of Life (QoL) for players having troubles with the Ranger. I do howerver think they should be aware that there are many players out there who have also seen the issues, but have helpful solutions to help mitigate the issue at hand. This does not involve a “change it or get kicked” philosophy however, but moreso an explanation on how “x” works more efficiently than “y”.

Sorry, but speed clearers aren’t interested in carrying bearbows, or any ranged player full stop. Bearbows get kicked from my groups as quickly as warriors with longbows.

So if you actually make an effort to be useful (spoiler alert – condition damage isn’t useful), welcome aboard.

Otherwise, stop wasting the time of speed clearers.

Note to OP: ^ These are the groups to avoid.

There are many helpful, friendly groups out there, just have to find them. Ignore the rest

For the record, Mahariel constantly teaches newbies how to do Arah and other dungeons. He is the type of person, OP, that you should be happy to learn from.

That may be true, but he fails to state such, and only degrades those who are unaware or unexperienced with the Ranger class. Not only is that post disrespectful, it certainly didn’t help the OP in his question.

The OPs post does not come off as a question. It is a statement. The ranger class is oppressed. That’s his conjecture.

Mahariel and others know how to make rangers not oppressed. That information was given, stomped on by people who don’t know what they’re talking about, and then he was personally insulted by another forumer.

Don’t tell me that his post was insulting. Look at the posts of those people you agree with and maybe you’ll see the true cancer of this forum.

The OP presented a statement on how he/she has been griefed by playing a Ranger, he/she then proceeds to ask a general question on if anyone sees or has this issue. I will quote:

“Am I alone here with the unfair disadvantage Guild Wars 2 and Arena Net has put on the ranger?"

I am neither agreeing or dissagreeing with posters above me, but stating how I perceive the situation that he/she is having. There are others who are also trying to do such. Providing an answer on the terms of why rangers are not accepted and solutions to change that problem in a constructive manner are different than the post we have highlighted which states to change build or “get out of speedcleares way”.

There’s nothing helpful or respectful about that, regardless on how it’s sugarcoated.

Actually based on that bolded line, no he is not the type of person one should learn from. That type of attitude is part of the issue, not part of the solution, and generally such narrow perspectives are more hindrance than help.

Now I would recommend learning from someone such as Lanfear, who not only provides a helpful answer, but is respectful to said person as well.

Never had an issue with my ranger, but I also make my own groups if I want to hit a dungeon. I also usually find myself with more AP’s than the average user, so maybe that quiets their dislike in my ranger. Or that I also have GWAMM.

Either way, let the so called “elitist” have their own groups, and start your own. Ranger is a tough class to manage efficiently, but I like being the “underdog”.

Question 2: Are we going to see new lands, areas and zones conected to lore in 2014?

No.

This is a frequently asked question and has been frequently answered by the devs. Adding more areas means that you ultimately decrease the player density in existing areas leading to dead zones/maps (even without adding areas some zones are dead – e.g. Timberline Falls).

This response holds no value in terms of confirmed statements regarding new areas. They have stated that we would see no new zones in the remainder of 2013, which held true. But they have not stated the case for 2014.
