No thanks. I enjoy running with big groups and killing enemies.

Maybe I’m alone on this, but I actually find farming the champions fun. And it’s rewarding, a win win for me.

Yeah it is kind of nice to take a break. Got no interest in SAB – tried it the last time, it was quite fun, but if I wanted to play and oldschool platform game I would play an oldschool platform game, revisit my old N64 etc. The fact that it is temporary and assumes grind/ spending all the time there now before it goes away kills it even more.
I got into GW2 to play a fantasy (obvs steampunk now) MMORPG. I understand SAB’s quite popular, so good for the people who enjoy it.

But I don’t think it should count as LS though, where is the story / lore in there? It’s a minigame. I wish devs would focus on a meaningful story for the LS though…. A girl can dream I guess.

Agree with you completely.

IN april when SAB was introduced, it was quite hysterical. I had some nostalgia from the old NES/SNES days and I enjoyed it for the first day or so. But like you said, I’m past those days. I will pull out the old console if I want to go back into time. People do enjoy it and they have now put a lot of expenses and resources into this project, so I would say add it to the game permanently and leave it for the people who want to play it.

Firstly, the subject of this thread “Don’t dumb it down” is rude, but you utilize words such as disproportionate in your opening statement. Not sure why a more appropriate subject was chosen. Immediately comes across as a troll/disrespectful post.

On topic to your remarks,

in this thread Josh stated this is a niche part of the game not designed for all of the players. This sums everything up nicely and of course majority of the complaints about difficulty did not find these remarks beforehand.

Difficulty is subjective to everyone, including what players find “fun”. I wouldn’t go as far as degrade players do to their frustrations because they enjoy different types of game style.

Method to decide the Leagues

in WvW

Posted by: Antara.3189

Antara.3189

I guess league means different match up every weeks until season ends in order to meet every other servers and get a ranking based on every scoring, am I right??? If so it’s good system.

It’s the same system that many professional sport leagues have, and yes it is a good one.

But it,s good only if you have control mechanisms to try to make the various teams more or less equal in strength. For example, when it’s time to recruit new players, the teams who finished at the bottom of the league generally have the choice of the first picks, so they have a chance to get better by picking up the best new players. There is also a limit on the amount of money a team can spend in salary each year, and a limit to the number of players a team can have on the playing field in a game.

Here there is absolutely no control on how a server can become stronger. Like someone said before, it’s like having a pro sport league where any player can choose to move to the team of his choice by paying a small fee. This ensure that the strong server gets even stronger than they are now, and those lingering at the bottom are sure to stay at the bottom.

I have this wild Idea now,

Why don’t we make WvW like NFL

Servers can do drafts, Anet can give us a budget for our servers, appoint a rep for our server.

We can pay gold salaries to “skilled” guilds to be on our server. The server that best manages/scouts for guilds for wvw is the victor.

Only then will it be fair

/sarcasm

(Wonder if the rest of Anvil would be on board? :P )

Read all the posts, many of the posters are upset, but taking the emotion out of their posts, I seen some good suggestions.

I can say the point system, or the way a server earns points, appears flawed, especially when paired with their modified “glicko” system.

I say this, because I play billiards/pool in an american amateur league. They implemented a “handicapped” system where even the lowest player could have a chance against a higher skilled player. Granted, there were flaws in this as well, but overall it worked. They rated players from 2-7, 2 being lowest, 7 being the highest.

If both players were a skill level 2, then they both had to win 2 games. Even

If the 2 had to play a skill level 6, then the 2 had to still only win 2 games, where as the 6 would have to win 6 games.

The matchup varied depending on the level.

A handicapped system put in place to alleviate the diffence in WvW population would be a good addition to the updcoming “league” play. At least then lower tiers could have a chance.

If you are saying you don’t ever even want the chance to try and show your skill against a higher ranked server, then I don’t know what to say..

Please be sure to transfer your game account to server rank 12 (who ever that may be) ready for their first battle with Jade quarry, Blackgate or Sanctum of Rall so you can experience the fun of fighting these servers with us lol

I’m sure we will even let you command and show us the strategies we need to win

If one person could muster enough enthusiasm and numbers in our server (dev or not) to beat a server event like E-Bay, I would donate to them to open a school to train players in WvW.

Skill might be a factor on a small scale for a short time, but overall massive zergs and facerolling wins the match. Sadly.

Should the Low-Tier WvW Servers Be Excited?

in WvW

Posted by: Antara.3189

Antara.3189

Greetings,

As a player on Anvil Rock who enjoys World versus World, should I be excited about the new update on the horizon? All of this talk about Gold, Silver, Bronze tiers, and I cannot help to think those of us on the lowest of servers will not get to enjoy the fruits of the update.

I plan on sticking with Anvil because that’s my server, and I don’t want to be pushed to leave for the fact of low numbers in WvW. We might not have the numbers, but our WvW regulars are more than dedicated, and I would pick them over any massive zerg.

I’m sure there will be an official post/blog made about the future of WvW, but I wanted to get a general idea of what all is coming.

As a request though (this is outside WvW scope) the recommendation to recruit players to a low tier server is too far fetched due to the cost of a server transfer per person. The average payer I don’t see wanting to waste a good portion or all of their hard earned gold to a transfer to uncertainty.

Thank you all for your time and consideration.

See you on the battlefield.

Off topic perhaps? Personal opinion about how you view players complaining about game issues.

I think that general posts about the genre as they apply to this game are perfectly acceptable. People seem to be here discussing Guild Wars 2 and how it pertains to what I said. Why are you so interested in shutting down a conversation that people seem to be invested in?

Guild Wars Discussions should be kept to just that, Guild Wars 2 Discussions.

Not about Corporate Politics, or how players treat other players, devs, etc. It only stirs debate that either gets derailed or abusive. Constructive or not.

Fits better in the Community section.

On the point of your thread though, People are People, everyone has dissagreements and critisizes in different ways. Nothing will change the way people talk, debate, critisize. The best thing for the Devs to do is keep the forums clean as possible and on point as possible. They do a good job too.

I too, grew up playing the infamous games SAB resembles, and it was a splendid update in April. I reminisced for the first hour, laughing with a couple buddies, enjoying the (what I thought was a joke). After learning it was not in May and would be returning, I sighed and put it out of mind.

I also agree that Living Story has been the overall turning point for me, creeping further away from the roots of which the Guild Wars story was all about. Tyria has turned into a mere joke for me, and I have lost all but little interest in the game.

I did see a post by an ArenaNet employee who stated to oversee this current LS and concurred with a poster that the LS has been written without large plot building to prevent a long, strewn out, boring story, versus fast paced action with classic villains.

I’d really like to see the exact wording and context of this post, if I could. Source please?

See Below.

The problem is that Jeff and Ree are either very busy with building the overarching lore (and giving into the subpar ideas of the new writers) or are held back so the LS writing team can have their “fun.”

I can’t comment on what Ree and Jeff are working on, but I can say that I’m ultimately responsible for the quality of the Living World story. I don’t imagine we’ll please everyone with our new direction, but that’s true of any story. That stated, I encourage people to leave their feedback. Just please be respectful.

Mm, no, the problem might be that the LS writers are trying to have it be “fun and entertaining” as opposed to “stirring and exquisite writing”. Which is good, because people shooting for “stirring and exquisite writing” sometimes risk missing the mark and moving right on into “boring and pretentious” or too far into “just plain boring”. Like shooting for Inception and instead getting Minority Report.

This is true.

Smurf,
Thank you for taking the time to write this. I think you bring to the table very good points.

Unfortunately some players put countless hours into writing feedback, reporting bugs, and writing their griefs only to be picked apart and hounded to the ground.

All that aside, I can say the only part of the story that has stayed concurrent to me is Rox and Braham. I know where they came from, their backstory, and have been building relationship with your character. The Villains have been a wash over for me. I smirked as the Anvil Rock Zerg crushed Scarlet and she was laughing in the process saying “Die, Die, Die, ..”.

I have found no twist in the plot, not excited, and merely just another big farm. Which I see as one of the only positives.

I did see a post by an ArenaNet employee who stated to oversee this current LS and concurred with a poster that the LS has been written without large plot building to prevent a long, strewn out, boring story, versus fast paced action with classic villains.

Either way, this is becoming a trend of looking away from being passionate about Guild Wars for me, with the game going away from what my interests are.

Glad there is a portion of the fanbase that enjoy it though, cheers to them.

In conclusion I do want to say from my experience, comments, opinions that negatively describe the course of the game are generally shunned, but welcome.

Best of wishes mate.

Ebonhawke was an old Ascalonian Mining Village re-established by the Ebon Vanguard as a last stronghold against the Charr.

It’s still the last Ascalonian Stronghold for the Ascalonian people with a recent establishment of an Asuran Gate by the Queen of Kryta (Jennah) to ensure supplies and reinforcements are readily available.

Ebonhawke and Kryta share a mere alliance between one another, but Ebonhawke is the last standing Human “town” for Ascalon.

You can spvp and pve from any server. Your server only matters for WvW. So if you want different kind of WvW, transfer. Otherwise just guest to another server and save yourself the gems.

If you have patience, you can wait it out. ET went through some really great and really bad periods for WvW. It’s currently on the upswing and doing much better than anyone expected.

I am totally playing on ET the week we get the ET/FC/AR matchup. I’ve been anticipating that for weeks. Crossing my fingers that it happens tonight!

Exactly the point I just made about not doing. Because I picked a server at the beginning, now I have to pay more money to enjoy the game? There’s flaws in the way WvW works point wise. Like I said.

We don’t have coverage. I’m looking forward to that matchup as well, but even still, we don’t have enough coverage to even be competitive with ET and FC, We give it our all, I promise you that. But there needs to be more encouragement to defend, work together in WvW. We suffer because of those reasons greatly.

Not to bring more negativity into the mix (as always seems the case) But GW2 lacks definitive lore. It’s uncompelling for the most part.

They focused entirely on making the first 20 levels of Guild Wars 2 amazing, and the later game play got choked.

Look at how much time went into queensdale or Wayfarer, the beginning personal story is awesome. I enjoyed it. But it dwindles after that.

What I say is very much true. They even said, zhaitan ended up being rushed due to a intense crunch time.

The writing seems rushed, and a lot of the writing doesn’t seem to have the passion of a writer who is also deeply connected to it.

It’s like it’s now just becoming a “Job”

Its reminding me of what I think about my “Job”. I love what I do, and support the cause, but I don’t share the same personal connection as some. Seems like that is happening at Anet as well. Someone who is deeply connected to what they are doing, will put much more effort and passion into it, versus someone just trying to get the project done to move to the next.

My biggest gripe is when players or especially a dev to state that I can switch servers if I’m not happy with the current state.

Why should I have to pay 20 dollars to move to a server? That’s outrageous and you loose any guild perks you had in the server.

It’s almost as players who have stayed with AR are getting punished for their choice in server at the beginning. Either way, I’m not paying to move to a different server.

Our stats for past 16 weeks

14 3rd place standings
2 times placed 2nd
0 times placed 1rst

22 weeks since a 1rst place win.

We don’t have coverage, therfore we never hold anything we cap.

Unfortunately numbers mean coverage, and coverage means win.

Any server that has the numbers in wvw that remain steadily throughout the day, will win. As our regular players are so few, we are strung out between the day due to work, school, etc.

new players are clueless and loose interest due to lack of commanding, understanding what to do.

If there is one good thing about a “zerg” its that new players find themselves following the large group until eventually they start to understand the map. At that point they start to get a feel on what to do, and can choose to stay in the zerg or roam, small skirmish. Since we don’t have any zergs, new players find themselves running aorund lost, getting demolished by the other servers large groups, or expererienced roamers.

They end up leaving WvW

EDIT: On a side note, Anvil Rock has become the Unofficial PvP server. I don’t PvP regularly so I cannot confirm those claims, but I can say that for a supposedly high population server, we barely have anyone in PvE (outside LS), and our Orrian temples are almost always contested, besides melandru.

I guest over to another server with High Pop, and almost always is 3+ temples unlocked.
Either our players are inactive, or all in PvP. If the latter is the case, then I believe this server should be made an official PvP server to encourage players to come here for that reason, and allow 1 free transfer to another server for those who want to get involved in WvW, PvE.

If you enjoyed GW1 as much as myself, then you will never get past the point of critiquing GW2 objects in relation to GW1. GW1 set high standards for us, and GW2 is having a hard time keeping that standard afloat.

Play how you want to play, if you want groups, look for group friendly guilds. It will never be the same as GW1.

To Vayne,

I personally find the story so far to be mediocre at best, and not interesting. I have however been in the “Living Story” content majority of my time since QJ has been out.

Does this mean I love LS? No, the only reason I’ve been there is to farm like a mad man with the rest of people. Anet and others can say that this is a big hit, but from what I see, majority of people are just farming the champs for gold, not to enjoy the LS.

Bad or good, it is what it is. I would put every ounce of gold on a bet that if there was a fast paced farm in any map that had absolutely nothing to do with LS that could be farmed just as efficiently, the mass would be there, and not here.

With all that said, they could make every LS update a farm fest and I bet they would see large participation in those events every time. Its a marketing winner for LS imo.

Nothing more attracting than easy gold, loot.

It is mindless content for the most part though. Exception being the Gauntlet, which even for some wasn’t as challenging as some may wish.

(I thought the gauntlet was cool, but reduced since you are playing in a bubble of an area, and zergs below you bringing lag. Instanced would had made this more enjoyable. I also thing repairs should had been disabled in QG)

I was never big into the sci-fi fantasy. We already live in a world where technology has taken over the way humans live everyday life, I don’t want to play in a game where technology is the core factor as well. The fantasy of magic, evil, intense lore is a winner for me. Mysterious content ftw.
