Scarlet, Slayer of Lores.

The story has run cold for me. I was entirely interested with the Lore from Tyria 250+ years ago, and the twisted plots they once existed. When the Elder Dragons started appearing, I was still entirely excited about what could happen next, what new twists could occur. The views of the world through all 3 books were great too.

But it all started going dry for me once I started Guild Wars 2 story over a year ago. The first parts of the story were exciting, and I felt like my character was progressing into something more. Then I met Trahearne and they story regressed for me, but progressed for everyone as a whole. On top of the broken story quests, lack of backend polish, the story fell flat by the time I was blasting Zhaitan.

I gave it the benefit of the doubt since I have been such an avid fan. Living Story came in with a bang I thought. Within a couple months we were seeing new creatures and a new zone. I was ecstatic at the pace. Once we conqured Southsun we entered the yearly Wintersday and that’s when it really hit me. This isn’t the Guild Wars i became so fond of years ago. Tixx was a random NPC with some backstory quickly thrown into the mix to remove the “Human Gods” that once held the spotlight of wintersday. I gave the game a break after feeling let down, but returned during the Molten Alliance/Flame & Frost beginning. I became excited once again by the thought of strange and unknown powers stirring in the Shiverpeaks. I stayed to find out what was behind all of this chaos, but was left with a “clift hanger” at the end. I accepted this and we moved back to southsun where the story became sporadic and I was left clueless on what was going on.
My short lived glee started fading away once again… I continued to play since we were given a look forward and promised some amazing things. (The Synopsis of Guild Wars 2 and theLiving Story with a video of going foward-Narrated by Colin J.)

Now recently we have this new “Major” Villain named Scarlet. I’ve never took her seriously, and she’s never excited me enough to really do find out what her motives are. One moment I’m in Kryta, the next the shiverpeaks, and then we are somewhere else. It’s done the opposite of bringing me closer to my “fanboism” of Guild Wars. It wasn’t the introduction of Scarlet in itself that has killed the love for me, but just the confirmation that this Genre has gone away from what I love.

Had some great times, met some amazing folks, and don’t regret my devotion, but it does seem I’m not in the “Target Audience” anymore. Until next time, cheers and happy gaming,
Dan

When I seen the commando page that day, I had forgotten it was April fools and called a buddy who also plays and said “Dude, GW2 just got killed by some new class.”

We were wondering why anyone would play anything other than a commando class. Just snipe everyone half mile away.

then I realized it was april fools.

Yea, they got me.

Personally I think the Warrior is the best overall balanced class. It’s the other classes that need buffs or updated weapon skills.

With all the warrior complaints though, I wouldn’t be suprised to see the warrior reduced down to a farmer charging into battle with a pitchfork screaming “For Great Justice”!

Unfortunately for GW2 class balancing effects all three areas of the game, PvE, WvW, and straight PvP. They stand by keeping it simple, but I think it makes it tough because a change for one area effects the other in a different way (sometimes).

Another big downfault in my opinion is that the attempt to make every class “equal” created this mindset where a thief should be able to do everything any other class can do.

I would rather see:
Heavy classes= Tanky, support, burst damage, lead
Medium Classes= Mobile, roaming, critical damage, scout
Light Classes= Heavy DPS, medium mobility, different types of damage, “guts” of a groups damage, but high reward/high risk game play. More challenging than other.

Maybe that breaks the barrier into “Holy Trinity” but whatever lol

Wait….So Os tried to help the server tank (which was totally the right call for the long term/7weeks in many peoples opinion), and XOXO is furiously working on PPT????

Has the WORLD GONE CRAZY, or is this just backwards week????

Also personally now fully support NSP moving to silver, so once you get destroyed you can all bow down to the people that tried (both on and off your server) to warn you.

No offense personally to you Bob, but if players really want to play in Bronze and NSP places Silver, then leave NSP and go to a server that is in Bronze, and if you want to win in Bronze, go to a server that you feel will win. Don’t bring a server down because players want to go up, and not down.

Leave NSP to the players who want to make it stronger, and are willing to accept a hard challenge. They will take it better I’m sure.

ET is a prime example of a server that used to be in chokeholds of last place, but now have a stronger wvw community working to be better.

Purposely trying to put the server in a lower tier is ridiculous, it is. I’m not saying that the jump from bronze to silver is not a big difference, because that’s a different conversation for a different thread.

I also said if NSP plays to its fullest and places in bronze, I have no quarrel with that. As the system placed NSP to where it belongs. Trying to alter numbers because of the fear of getting hammered in silver shouldn’t be endorsed, at all.

I understand NSP wants to be in bronze, because most likely NSP would be in the top 3 (though this could likely change.)

Again your worried about being “meaningless” for a month just because you guys earned a righteous spot in the silver league. What about Devona? are they supposed to feel “meaningless” because they are in a league with servers like HoD or NSP/Kaineing? No they are not, they should want to play hard and do the best they can regardless. The way you stated your opinion, everyone should play on a winning server, which is impossible. If everyone in my server felt meaningless and didn’t play to support the server, than we would have all transfered to “winning” servers and there would be no AR wvw. That’s not the case because we fight for the cause of the server, teamwork.

And with all respect, if it wasn’t for the guy/gals who thought like myself, there would be 3 servers with ques the size of manhattan.

Of course everyone should play the game for some sort of satisfaction, but when you enter WvW, it’s not about “I” but about “We”. Like it or not. That’s what SPvP is for.

One last point: I’m not saying the league system is perfect, or will be perfect, as that’s not what I’m talking about. I can hypothesize about being in a league with servers only close to our range, but that’s not the way this is working, and I have no control over that, except an opinion. So regardless whether you personally feel or others feel about being in Silverleague, if there is no “sandbagging” going on and the server places in Silver, than that’s the way it should be per the current system.

The thing is, NSP has a bunch of skill, but extreme lack of coverage. Most everyone wanting to stay in Bronze on NSP are not afraid themselves of fighting in silver, but are wanting to use the chance to fight in bronze to prepare for silver next season. Noone knows NSP like players on NSP do, and we know exactly what happens when we start to lose a bit. Several people on the server were wanting to use a fair taste of victory in bronze to create a more unified server.

People who aren’t on the server have no clue what even just a little bit of losing does to those who only pop into wvw a little bit, those who make up a strong portion of the militia for almost every other server. We saw that the past 3-4 matchups before this one where we got destroyed constantly, and the only people in wvw were those who aren’t afraid of the fight, and who really won’t mind fighting in silver or bronze.

People who were arguing to stay in bronze on NSP are thinking longer term than just the next season. They are thinking not to play for first place in bronze (or last place in silver) in season one. They are thinking of playing for near the top of silver in season two. Those arguing to stay in bronze are doing so because they only want this one season to be their only bronze season, and are fearful now that if we go fight in silver for season one, we’ll be in bronze in season two. The more desirable of those two outcomes is fight in bronze initially to prepare for silver.

To be clear: NSP is not afraid of fighting. Those who want to play in bronze are ONLY wanting to do so to be more competitive in silver next time. I personally would like to be in bronze for that reason, but I know I will be freakishly bored of the fights in bronze.

The potential on NSP is bright (it really is a great place to come if your guild is thinking of transferring). If we are somehow able to be competitive in silver straight away, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. Whether this is the right way to do it, that’s up for debate.

tl;dr: NSP is not afraid of the hard fight, NSP just wants to be competitive in silver eventually.

Just a reminder that you’re talking to GoM and AR here. We get beat down constantly but those of us who want to see our server stronger, have stayed and continue to fight. Saying you want to use Bronze to work on your server issues is still wrong if it’s done purposely.

If your server plays to it’s full potention and the commanders play smart and hard as much as they can and place is silver; then that’s where the server should be, regardless of the outcome in silver.

I understand there NSP, Kaineng are in the split between placing in two different leagues, but it should be irrelevant.

I understand your fear of losing people if placed in silver though. If you look past that, you will see the people that you lost, are the ones who are selfish and only look to a server that always wins, which isn’t a team player.

When NSP want’s to play, you see the results Shiver posted. Os was running in AR yesterday and doing a good job against the AR “PUG” zerg. Which was to be expected since we have many new WvW players.

This is definitely a flip from what has been going on.

However, you can call it what you want, but purposely trying to keep numbers down to place in Bronze instead of Silver and trying to justify the case is absurd. It truly is. Whoever supports or took/takes part in purposely altering the true outcome is selfish and cowardly. There are many players in NSP who want to win, who try hard to win, and want to make a better, stronger server.

If going to silver league and getting your * handed to you is what it takes to be stronger, than that’s what it takes. Purposely trying to stay in bronze to beat up on smaller servers such as AR, GoM, Devonas is wrong.

We have players who have been working very hard to even place 2nd place in a match, which we finally accomplished in months of placing 3rd. We play to have fun, but ultimately we want to win.

And yes, the leader of Os and a member os ZoS did come to AR and “chat” in Lions Arch. Bad intentions are bad intentions, no matter how it comes across and that’s what happened. It put a poor reputation not only on the two guilds, but the server as a whole. But It’s done and over now, and can be put behind us.

Good luck to the earnest members in NSP and good luck in whichever league you place. Hopefully a commander can rise in NSP and put the bad inentions in the ground and take NSP much higher.

Play to win, and play for victory.

Hell with that, I’ll come right out an’ say it. There’s nothing to learn from abusive, disrespectful posts other than the writer is abusive and disrespectful. This is such garbage it’s awesome. “Say something with confidence and people will eat it up; no matter how stupid”.

The advice is … always assume the bad things people say are right and the good things they say are wrong? You’d have alotta empty art museums – and some really tiny book stores – if that’s the way it worked.

What ya do is listen to everyone’s opinions – ignore the people what can’t offer anything without being abusive, because their opinions are almost never constructive and when they are you can bet someone else is saying it better – and take a long hard look at your art with alla that in mind.

“More people are sayin’ this is good than are saying it’s bad.”
“More people are sayin’ this is bad than are saying it’s good.”

Now let’s see what we can do about that.

Anet’s problem ain’t that they never listen; it’s that every time they have listened and changed stuff it’s caused more anger than not.

“We want some kind of grind!” Enter endless dungeon – people scream that it’s an endless grind.

“We want another tear ah weapons!” Enter new tear of weapons – people scream the sky is falling and Anet has burned the manifesto.

The only way Anet is gonna do anything right is by taking all that criticism, and alla that praise, and weighing it out – seeing what is working best and what isn’t. Ain’t no way they’ll make everyone happy no how – so they gotta try to make the most people happy with each new thing. Listening only to the complaints isn’t gonna make that happen.

That’s why they say “We only take the forums with a grain of salt”.

The forums will never be perfect, between age differences, lifestyles, influences, personal preferences, the type of feedback stretches across the world.

I do hope they can push to be more transparrent in their projects though. Good to know some of the plans, even if they are not set in stone.

And please, fix my Ghastly Longbow !!

Vayne,

In all honesty and with all due respect, the reason you get pushback from other players is because you try to make ArenaNet out to be the “White Knight” so to speak.

They are not terrible, far from it actually. They do try and collaborate with players as much as possible, hence the “Collaborative Development” movment currently happening. They are actually spending money on this, which I see as a really good thing, because money that I put into the game, is coming back around to benefit us, the players.

But they are not perfect, noone is. They make mistakes, we make mistakes, blog writers make mistakes, everyone does.

The issue I’ve seen in regards to ArenaNet and why some players get frustrated or even angry, is sometimes you can read into a remark, and it appears personal to them. Understandable as well, since they probably put in a lot of hard work and lack of sleep into their project, only to get smeared by players not satisified.

It’s a fine line, and a hard line to stay on for both sides, players and “developer”.

In order to make this game the best that it can be, I believe both sides have to work together and leave personal feelings out of the situation. Negative feedback should be to help the overall game, not hurt it.

If one person can take good out of this, than it’s a good day.

My two cents on that- from Scott’s answer, I believe they either did not have any particular concrete setting for it, like you said, or that it is something earmarked for potential future stories and therefor not something they’re willing/allowed to talk about- I personally lean towards the former, but I am not willing to discount the later out-of-hand.

As for the statues, the only reason I ever jumped to the Elonian connection is because Istan is the only extant human culture to employ large statues of humans on a large scale. The style does not match at all, neither for the Istani sculptures nor the ones of uncertain origin in the Crystal Desert.

@Antara Personally I see no Melandru connection in that Fractal, specifically as regards the Mossman. If you have a group that doesn’t try to strong-arm you on as soon as he’s dead, you’ll see the area around is shack is littered with bones, both on the ground and on display. The only human god to accept remains as an offering is Grenth, but I wouldn’t jump to that connection either.

I don’t mean to state I see a connection to Melandru, but rather the theme with the roots, wilderness style magic, reminded me of melandru. If anything, I would lean towards a Mordremoth influence, but not melandru.

I love it. It’s fantastic. In regards to “elitist” advertisements; they should be spotted before clicking.

Always read the description

Groups or players might want specific requirements. There is nothing wrong with that as long as it’s advertised.

When an advertisement for a higher level dungeon appears and all it says is “LFG” with no information, anyone will join. The poster should be clear and specific to what he/she wants as well.

Many times I will be posting for a level 10+ fractal and I get a level 6 character or around joining. I don’t enjoy kicking that person, or trying to explain why he/she isn’t coming along, but they didn’t read the description. I also get a lot of players who are brand new to Fractals who join a higher run, personally I’m not taking them on a run where I want to complete in decent time. If I’m running a level 5 or under, then sure I don’t mind a bit.

Another thing that’s apparent to me is the “Melandru” type theme in the Swamp. Maybe a sliver of the past of “Mordremoth” influence? Some Norn (Svanir) do worship Jormag, maybe this is something similar, but ancient.

There are historical reasons for this, thus working as intended. It is probably no longer required, but it is what it is.

Explain please

There was a time that soft wood logs were so plentiful that ArenaNet wanted to create more demand for the logs, thus raised the bar 1. Now that majority of players have long since moved away from those maps and into “Living Story”, end game maps, these increased in price.

Orginally it was 3 like the rest.

Why is it “twisted” like that? Does the name “SSSSSSSSSSSSSScarlet” rings a bell?
Imho – she is a member of Lunatic Court and she is breaking the seals to free our beloved Mad King.
GW1 Wiki:
“As a spirit (referred to as a Spirit Lord), he lives in the Mad Realm within the Underworld and, because of a series of seals restricting him, he is able to return to Tyria for only one day each year: Halloween. The Lunatic Court are attempting to break the seals and bring Thorn back as an undead. The first seal was broken when Salma took the throne.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mad_King_Thorn
Scarlet tried to kill one of her descendants – Queen Jennah. And her silly rhyme?
" Tick tock goes the clock
It’s almost time for time to stop
Something you all must understand
Your world is built on fog and sand

You’re out of time, your jig is done
It’s time for Scarlet to have her fun
She has some hard lessons to teach
To the people of Divinity’s Reach

So mark the date in permanent ink
The hour is later than you think
On the twentieth day she’ll start her games
And warm her hands over Kryta’s flames!"
It’s all about time and clocks… Mad King’s CLOCK Tower… and Kryta!

If your theory is correct and the lore team writes a masterpiece that nobody expects, (she is really an elite member of the lunatic court) and is a servant to the mad king, I will cry tears of joy.

Dark, twisted, and interesting. Now that’s good story telling. :0

The problem I see with this mask,

  1. It doesn’t stand out, and I would have no idea that this was a Halloween mask.
  2. These “Phantom of the Opera” masks already exist in the game, but in different variations
  3. A festival mask should be universal to all races/classes, or at least designed towards such.

I will give everyone a comparison of a halloween mask from 2008, with the 2013.

(I personally think there are far better masks from GW1, but I chose the face paint one to give a better comparison.)

Even the Witch’s [Hat] from last year was universal, and wasn’t biased towards any proffession/race.

I believe the major issue with this is the fact that you you loose karma and experience if this was the case. I don’t disagree that the map could already be unfogged, but there is valuable experience and karma from Hearts, POIs, WPs, etc. that you can use to level up with. Even if you don’t level this way, many do.

Is Guild Wars 2 Alt Friendly or Not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Antara.3189

Antara.3189

Alt friendly in everything except WvW (ranks) and FotM (levels).

Everything outside of FotM 21+ can be done without an emphasis on ascended gear.

I have 13 alts with full exotics and some ascended trinkets spread here and there.

Laurels, dailies, dungeon tokens, legendaries, character slots, inventory upgrades, dyes.

There are more things than just wvw and fotm.

Laurels are account bount (ALT Friendly), Dungeon tokens are Account Bound, Dailes are account bound, Character slots? (No Comment),
The others are not alt friendly, I agree.

Laurels are time gated. Therefore they are not alt-friendly. I could play 24 hours a day and only get 1 laurel a day. I need laurels to get ascended items for my characters. I could also use them for dyes ( also not alt friendly) and t6 crafting mats for crafting.

Dungeon tokens are reduced from account, not character. If I run 3 paths on my main, then 3 paths on my alt, I should get the same tokens on each. However I don’t.

Dailies provide XP for one. I could do the same activity that I already did on my main, and not get the XP.

If you dont have a comment for character slots, then don’t put a comment.

Laurels being time effects 1 character as it does many, so I see that as irrelevant. You also can get Laurels from AP chests.

I thought dungeon token rewards per path were not account bound? I looked through the patch notes but did not see this. I know gold per path is. But regardless it’s the same as laurels, whether you have 1 character or multiple, you are gated to once a day on rewards per path.

  4. Bazarr of the Four Winds – Tied to GW1 Lore, which is missing in this game called GW2. Though some of the quests were not entirely entertaining, it was a neat update
  5. Wintersday – I really don’t even want to include this, but the concept behind wintersday I love, it was fantastic in GW1 and glad it came back. But the Asuran Toymaker implementation pretty much disengaged me from Wintersday after a week or so. The quests seemed to repetitive, and It was too childish. I liked the Winter versus Spring concept from GW1, not saying bring back the human gods, but the “Dark versus Light” concept is awesome.

Worst

  1. Scarlet and her minions – Honestly this covers a ton of the updates, the more I see her, the more I cringe. I cannot engage in the story because she seems to eccentric and is portrayed as an overeducated lunatic, unless you go out of your way to find out who exactly this character is. There is still no confirmation on if this is the personal characters nemesis, but it seems as it is, even though there was no connection until recently.
  2. Clockwork Chaos – The design behind invasions is a good idea, but the mechanical army just rips the GW2 world in half for me, I only did it for the rewards.
  3. Super Adventure Box – Back to School – I have to say, the first introduction to SAB was funny, and brought back a ton of memories, but those days are long behind us, and I have my old consoles to break out if I really want to go old-school. When this was re-introduced and tried to be tied into the lore, I baughed at the concept. If anything this should had been a side project and implemented into the game as a “mini game” for the players who love it. Some people even suggested making it its own little executable game. But I don’t think it belongs in Guild Wars 2. My 0.02c
  4. Mini Games – All around, we went from having a few mini games, to being bombarded with mini games in every update until finally it slowed up. We never did get bar brawls…..
  5. Lost Shores – New map implmentation in the first couple months was exciting, but to much disappointment the lore and story continuation fell short. It was not optimized either.

Is Guild Wars 2 Alt Friendly or Not?

What's in the box guessing thread!

So you can get dark matter from salvaging “any level” exotic?

Yes, The minimum level exotic is 62 I believe, and Dark Matter has a chance from all.

And yes I was mistaken on the ecto salvage. Tried to delete but a mod rejected lol

EDIT: here is the official patch notes regarding this topic.

They are correct, I was wrong. Deleted my comment. It is infact exotics of any kind. Ectos yield better chances of higher essences of luck.

I thought the advancements made by the dwarves in armorsmithing and blacksmithing became the building foundation of which all races built armor?

It is not alt-friendly.

Do you have a few reasons on why you feel this way? Or how said reasons could be improved?
