That’s the only one.
But, I think it’s cool, because it actually looks like a candy cane.
They are marked with a peppermint mint icon that says Mysterious Gift.
Make sure to check out the skins available through the gift exchange vendor in Lion’s Arch as well.
Ok.. I just don’t understand why I would spend 10 sweaters to open a present that gives me one of the same sweater
True..but did you notice all of the other stuff that he has? Most of the gift boxes contain a random chance for one of those things. Worst case, you open a bunch and have enough to purchase one outright.
There will be a special free gift that Tixx will dispense in Lion’s Arch when he arrives. December 20th – January 3rd.
Giant present boxes.
The items found in the gifts are a bit random. Giant gifts are awarded to level 60-80 players and should contain somewhat level appropriate gifts.
Exchange your ugly wool socks/hats/sweaters for better gifts at the gift exchange merchant in LA.
The dropping presents are in every single map (except Orr) and they will continue throughout the entire holiday. Keep your eyes open for peppermint candy icons on the map.
This is awesome! Thanks for posting it.
This is misinformation. The patch will go live sometime today, but I can’t provide a specific time. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Closing thread.
The build should go live sometime tomorrow. The first stop of Tixx’s airship is on December 15 at 10:00 AM PST (7:00 PM CET). The delay is intentional, to prevent any unforeseen complications with getting the build out from messing with the timed content. Don’t forget that even before the airship arrives, there’s plenty of stuff to see and do in Lion’s Arch.
Refer to the following page for an exact time table:

No, there’s basically no down time at all.
It will be in the game during Wintersday.
All you have to claim your final event reward is speak to Tixx after he arrives in Lion’s Arch on December 20th, 10:00 AM PST (7:00 PM CET). He’ll be there until January 3, 2013. You have two weeks to log in and complete a task that should take no longer than a minute, depending on how fast your client can load the game.
Azjenco, I’m saying that there will be new crafting components specific to Wintersday. To get them, you play Wintersday stuff. Activities, events, etc.
We took a very different approach to Wintersday crafting than Halloween. There’s a lot more recipes and we made some of our unique skins considerably more easy to get.
No, there’s no resource nodes. Something else will take the place of ad-hoc, holiday content on the go. There are new crafting recipes, but the components for those will come from the rewards gained by playing any holiday content.
In general, Rising Dusk, I would not expect difficult combat challenges in holiday updates. The reception of including such content with the Halloween update was very poor.
Fortunately, holiday events are not the only format of content update that will be added to the game. We can still add those challenges with future updates in the coming months and years ahead.

Sorry, next time I’ll spend more time policing up my grammar instead of answering more questions.
No, Tixx’s airship flies very high. And fast.
It is worth noting, however, that we could feasibly make this happen. I’m just not sure we get much gameplay out of it since the airship is too big to fly low enough to be interacted with.
No, you can be any level to participate in any of the main stage Wintersday content. And yes, there are both level-appropriate and level independent rewards.
There’s no resource nodes being added to WvW for Wintersday.
You have two weeks to claim the final reward.
Any rewards tied to a specific day will be attainable when those days are available for replay at the end.
To clarify, there’s no cinematic. But you can see it happen.
If I were a charr, I’d be looking at that airship with a lot of envy. Who knows, maybe someday we’ll see a competition.
The transition of the airship departing and arriving is at 10 AM PST each day , but all of the actual content is available at-will, all day long.
Thanks Navi.
And as far as the toys go, I think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised.
While I understand the potential for disappointment as a fan of the original game, I also believe Guild Wars has room for both old and new traditions. We seized the opportunity to appeal to the classic Guild Wars fan with Halloween, so it feels right to me that Wintersday will cover some new ground.
It also makes a lot of sense given the fact that not only have the human gods been missing for some time, humanity itself is rather beaten back to a relatively smaller corner of Tyria. So I hope you’ll reserve your judgement until you see what the new version of Wintersday is all about.
We tried our best to leave in some surprise without leaving the majority of players feeling lost and unaware of what activities are available for Wintersday (as was very much the case with Halloween). There’s one major missing piece of information that I’m sort of surprised no one has taken note of, which is exactly what toys the toymaker will be making.

From the update notes:
“Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy has made these past few days very hard for some of our players on the east coast of the United States. We would like to extend our condolences to all those affected by the storm. We recognize that because of power failures and the general situation, many players have been unable to meet Mad King Thorn in Lion’s Arch. One of the fake Mad King Thorn actors has decided to stick around until 11/15 to ensure that those who couldn’t play due to the storms still receive the “Attend the Party” achievement. If you missed the final event, you will be able to speak to him at the Grand Piazza in Lion’s Arch and receive both your achievement and a Halloween hat.”
Yep, just log into Lion’s Arch and your emissary achievement should be fixed (assuming you completed the right achievements).
Maybe she’s a little daft? Or just in denial.
At any rate, I’ll see what I can do but we’re going to have to live with it for awhile I’m afraid.
The achievements will no longer be completeable after Halloween is turned off. This is similar to the monthly or daily achievements which also cannot be completed after a certain amount of time. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I believe the plan is to replace the achievements in the special event category with a new set of special event achievements whenever the next special event begins. You’ll keep the points and any titles forever, but I don’t think we would leave you with a bunch of achievements that you (or new players) will never be able to complete.
Glory is for competitive PVP. It’s purpose is to create prestige for people who are good at killing other players on a level playing field. Activities, on the other hand, are a grab bag of mini-games that shake up the gameplay for a bit. Yes, it’s—**gasp** —fun.
The fact that the glory bar is even displayed is just a side effect of us leveraging our awesome competitive PVP framework to host them. (It is really cool by the way. For example, did you know that you play activities with players from other worlds?)
But now that we’ve got that straight, I’m super interested in learning what you guys think you should be getting out of activities. Trick or treat bags were sort of a trial, but I think it worked out pretty well so we may do similar things in the future. Keg brawl doesn’t have anything like that, but it does have achievements. Would that compel you to play? Something else?
Thanks for your time!
It’s going to end with a build. Not a bang but with a whimper. I think it’s say to safe we had enough one time events for this holiday.
The one thing I miss is him killing you!
And Rock, Paper, Scissors! Please bring those emotes back, ANEt!
When I was building it I thought it would be in poor taste to break people’s armor. So he brings you down to 1% health instead.
You get bags on subsequent runs. 25 if you get it all right.
I apologize to anyone that’s experienced this issue. Rest assured that if you have the achievements, we’ll get the meta achievement to update properly through some mechanism in a future build. In other words, I got your back and I’ll do my best to make sure nobody gets left hanging.
Yes you can still open them
Yes, Halloween should be over tomorrow in it’s entirely. No Thanksgiving or anything like that. As for what’s next, you’ll have to wait and see.
He probably turned to look Ibbuli there when he interacted with him. It’s something that all our NPCs do.
All doors are permanently open now, how am I supposed to trigger the events for the halloween event achievement?…
Same problem here. I only ever got the one in Queensdale to open the doors, now nothing is triggering.
Any advice on this?
There are still haunted doors that spawn events instead of portals. Look around for doors that do not have markers on them. There are also some events in the Mad King Labyrinth.
It’s just a great place to watch all the silly mortals fall for his Haunted Door prank. Fall…get it?
Quick update, we haven’t stopped looking into this. We’re now looking into a broader way to address the issue. Hang on just a bit longer!
Keep in mind that the recipes stay around, while the Ascent to Madness instance will be gone after the 31st until at least next year.
