Kill “awesomium_process.exe” in the task manager, a built-in web browser process spawned by GW2, and see if that increases your performance. (It did for me.)
Doing that even enabled anti-aliasing, which didn’t work previously. :-p I mean real AA, not the crappy built-in FXAA.

Ok, so I was getting mediocre fps only on my GTX 570, also, antialiasing didn’t really seem to work, edges flickered, and everything looked not-so-superb in general despite me trying to force highest settings in the graphics driver.
Well.
Until I killed the process “awesomium_process.exe” that gets spawned by GW2. :-p
Suddenly after I changed task back into the game, it runs smoother (turning around especially), antialiasing worked at highest level like I never saw it before, the game suddenly looks more awesomium, err awesome.

Also, I have really bad edge flickering. When I enter the TP room in Lion’s Arch and move towards the NPCs the pattern of the floor texture and the staircases of the stairs behind the TP NPCs are a crazy flicker fest. FXAA reduces it only slightly, but it remains crazy flicker show. Even Halflife 2 in 2004 already had better antialiasing that would completely eliminate edge flickering, come on Arenanet.

It seems the “trigger on roll” skills and some other types of skills attempt to only activate when they think you’re in combat. Problem is, sometimes they’re wrong, ie they don’t trigger although you’re clearly in combat. This happens rarely but is that more annoying. Also, these skills/sigils should just trigger independently of whether you’re in combat or not, problem+annoyances solved! I mean who cares if you get healed for 350 when out of combat? I don’t understand why these restrictions to combat-only activation are in place in the first place. It’s just terribly prone to glitching out when you rely on it.

Botts and multiboxing

Antiriad.7160

I’ve multi-boxed other games. I have no problems with multi-boxers. If there is a live person there, controlling all the characters, I don’t mind that at all.

The automated, scripted bots should be nuked though

Well except that multi-boxing also consists of bots: You control one character, the other 4 (or w/e) are just bots that automatically analyse and copy the movement of the one human-controlled character. For all we know they might even just as well automatically copy the movement of any other human-controlled character that is moving nearby in the game.

If you want multi-boxing that isn’t botting but really human-controlled, I suggest you plug in 5 keyboards into your PC and get really busy. I guess 2 hands, 2 feet and 1 nose might work..

I can’t really play 6 hours in a row or anything, so I have to think how to use my available spare time, so the only answer you, Arenanet, make plausible is “do not defend anything” basically.

Important test cases from 'low fps' threads

Here are the most interesting reports given by players regarding this topic so far:

1) Q6600 + mid/high-end Nvidia card = bad performance
2) Ivy Bridge quad core + mid/high-end Nvidia card = bad performance (!)
3) Sandy/Ivy Bridge CPUs + AMD card = great performance
4) Q6600 + AMD card = great performance (!)

This seems to point into a very specific direction, at least until someone has an opposing case to report.

(As a side note: I recommend Q6600 users to overclock to 3GHz anyway, which is very easily done: Base clock 333 and multiplier x9.)

Improved poor FPS on Q6600 machine

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Antiriad.7160

Antiriad.7160

I overclocked it to 3 GHz, which improved the fps somewhat, but still not great. I’m surprised a quad-core cpu running at 3GHz is performing this poorly in GW2 actually.

Anyway, here’s how you do it easily on AMI BIOS:
Enter your BIOS and change the CPU base clock from 266 to 333, keep the multiplier at 9, also disable “Spread Spectrum” in the BIOS in case it’s on (just reduces performance).
That’s it, enjoy your 3GHz rig.

Some people are apparently able to go as high as 3.6GHz by increasing various voltages and manipulating timings, but that’s pretty hard and maybe not the best idea. 3GHz is easily achievable though and poses no prob for any CPU stepping.

(Apparently 3.2GHz is pretty popular, people either do 400MHzx8 or 355MHzx9 for that.)

Antiriad.7160

Well, my cpu load isn’t even at 90% or anything, I measured it. It’s more like 65% or so. I guess it could happen though if GW2 makes poor utilization of Quadcore cpus AND had a badly optimized engine in general (come on it doesn’t look like it requires more than this CPU..for what?) :/
Anyway, my system exceeds the requirements by far while each single component on its own at least matches them or is better, so if that’s really the cause then I’m kitten off at Arenanet for lying there.. 10 fps when turning around is NOT “recommended requirement”!

Edit: Actually, it changes between running just at low fps and then having bad hiccups when I’m actually turning around by say 360°, where it really goes to like 2 fps or something, if that helps in any way..

Edit: I must correct my statements above: I got the “recomemnded specs” from a gaming site, so I naturally assumed that those were given by arenanet, but it seems that site just made it up, if arenanet actually hasnt released official reqs.

I ran a 3d-mark and I got a gfx score of 5374, which is pretty close to the expected average performance of GTX 570 cards which would be 5830 according to charts on futuremark.com. 3d-mark also actually confirmed that my system seems to be running fine. So it seems GW2 is somehow faulty? Why is it running at 1/4 of the expected performance, and why isn’t it antialiasing? o_O

Edit: If I turn my character around, I even drop as low as 10 fps…
Edit2: If I choose “best performance” and everything looks like minecraft, I get better fps, but can still drop down to as low as 22. xD
Edit3: PCI-e slot is running at 16x according to GPU-Z, so that’s fine.
Edit4: I followed the sticky instructions in this forum for nvidia cards, but it didn’t help. Except the game looks pretty bad now^^.

What’s up with that? Metro 2033 on Ultra settings runs super smooth, as expected from these system specs. But in GW2 I get like 14-18 fps although there are maybe just 10 people around me (idling on Lion’s Arch overflow a bit). (And I checked CPU load, it’s not maxed out or anything). According to a GW2 performance chart I saw somewhere I should be getting like 50-60 fps.

Another odd thing I noticed: Anti-aliasing doesn’t seem to work, my character in the character overview screen shows aliased diagonal lines, so the graphics don’t even look that great. I have installed the latest version of Nvidia drivers for the 500 series (and DX11). In general, my sys specs fulfil the recommended requirements of GW2.
