Not a word about the insane power creep.
Most players fail to recognize that, so imagine a company that doesn’t even play its own game!
Future looks grim.
With each season lasting 8 weeks + 2 weeks in between, probably 5 per year.
Last chance before the hate and toxicity escalate to stratospheric levels over the week end.
Give your thoughts on the state of PvP: what is successful, what is not, what do you reflect from this. Give your thoughts on feedbacks, give room for feedbacks on your thoughts, then do it again.
Hire community managers for efficient communication between dev/designers and players. You seem so out of touch it’s…
Leeto —> top dog.
Helseth —> not carried by his team anymore, back to trash level.
I was moving from close to mid, but someone pinged me. So I halted, thinking someone wanted me to stay. A couple of minutes later, I learned through insults that he wanted me to move mid. Oh the irony.
Apparently, just drawing a line on the minimap requires too much effort. That or I suck at mind reading.
I will play dumb: me go face, pushing far, blending so well I will be undetectable, me am genius.
Q: How do you motivate/incentivize Anet to do anything ?
A: Make the game lose tons of players.
Q: How do you achieve that ?
A: By losing matches on purpose as a solo player, creating the most toxic community ever. (That will be historical! We’re creating a legend!)
Thank to Anet, this will also improve your chances for further win streaks, so don’t refrain. Do it multiple times, each tier. Make the game a better place! (In the long run, maybe, if anet even care.)
Point prove, what a toxic and offensive mosh pit. Anet should never reply here. Just read your comments and others in this forum, how can devs communicate with these people
The less they communicate, the worse it will become.
true advice. Quit the game. League system and balance is utterly a joke.
Sadly I think it’s the best advice. I hope you didn’t buy the expansion. The state of the game is insulting.
Matchmaking is trying real hard to keep you at a 50% win rate, reducing margin of error, like a fair match, to the bare minimum.
Unfortunately, foste, the game is currently more enjoyable to watch (mostly particles and explosions) than to play. I also want to see how they improved the spectator experience, since it’s the only positive thing in the last patch…
I just hope Jebro doesn’t switch camera 10-20 times/min with bad angles, inducing strong nausea. In my opinion, it’s perfectly fine to keep the camera on one point and just give a short briefing on what’s happening elsewhere. I would feel more engaged and thrilled by the action.

- Revenant: strongest in pvp, don’t know in pve but I bet they are in the top half.
- Scrapper (engineer): do well in pvp, viper engineers are kings in pve (or so I’ve heard).
- Dragonhunter (guardian): strong in “pleb” pvp, don’t know in current pve but this profession as always been an asset in the past.
But you implied there would be a new matchmaking system! You dreamed too big! Not only do we have the same terribly bad one but they didn’t even bother to reset it.
It’s REALLY silly that going up in divisions basically requires win streaks when the GAME itself tries to keep you from getting them.
Well said. They haven’t put any thought at all, no theorycrafting, nothing, in that kitten league. Laziest job ever for a company that allegedly want their game to be e-sport. Who the kitten are they kidding ?
Keeping the same matchmaking system, not even resetting MMR, complete lack of balance (power creep to the max), solo players vs premades, impossible lineups (saw 4 DH in same pug), no extra pips for win streak, even losing pips when you win matches as seen on Helseth’s stream, having to grind 130 pips for legendary…
It’s adding insult to injury on a stellar level…
I’m disappointed: the kittenstorm isn’t on par. Make it grow way bigger!
“We strongly believe that regular balance updates are one of the key pillars of building a successful competitive game." – Colin Johanson
I’m a believer too. I dream so big it hurts. Unfortunately, believing achieves nothing. So yeah, we don’t care about BS words, all we care about is action. You’re kitten right.
You should post it on reddit. Official forums aren’t monitored.
We strongly believe that regular balance updates are one of the key pillars of building a successful competitive game. As such, prior to each season, there will be a balance update. League play will generally begin about two weeks after a balance update to ensure that the metagame has stabilized in an appropriate manner. Balance will be closely monitored throughout the season with the goal of having solid balance going into the postseason tournaments.
Stop spamming the same kittening kitten in every thread.
I think it’s the best quote in 3 years and should be copy pasted everywhere, multiple times. But don’t forget to give credit where credit’s due. That masterpiece is from Colin Johanson.
Apparently you’re not supposed to take that damage. If you listen to the great folks we have here, you have to learn to dodge. Don’t forget to dodge the smashing and the drop too, then double dodge UA to only take 20%. I’m afraid that you also need to dodge the elite. Ok now double dodge UA again…
What they are trying to say is: play s/d daredevil with double energy sigils or go home.
Or, you could get a hint at those never ending zerker/marauder duels, like Revenant vs. Mesmer: Unrelenting Assault vs. Blurred Frenzy. And when they can’t attack and dodge at the same time, they just dodge, go distortion, teleport away, block… oh wait the rev got hit! Oh but it heals him!
Player A : “the game is too bursty.”
Player B : “the game is too tanky.”
Guess what? They are both right!
Mistanamo is a disgrace!
I thin the most telling fact is that in EU ESL, which was notorious for no1 ever running necro, it’s suddenly one of the most played classes. ^^’
Also, thief and war clearly are a bit too weak atm.
Before nerfing everything, I’d start by buffing those 2, because buffing stuff might offer counters to things that are very strong, which would make nerfing them obsolete.
1. Lots of players jumped to necro without any prior experience. Not that it matters because, experienced or not, they all eat dirt as much.
2. It’s not that thief and war are weak, it’s that everything else is too strong. Just look at those (as annoying as possible) perma dodge thieves and you may realize that anet went overboard with the power creep. Buff them by nerfing others first.
(edited by Ara.4569)
To determine if something is OP, just compare it to the old d/d ele that ruled supreme for over 5 months (even after the slight nerf there was still 2 ele in most teams).
Based on that I can say that everything (but maybe berserker) is OP.
Amount of power creep is insane…
Lastly, there are things with higher priority.
Priorities in my book:
1. Balance: power creep has to go! Anet has to take unpopular measures (nerf almost everything) for the greater good.
2. Separate queues.
3. Ability to play hotjoin while queuing and/or add multiple combat rings in the mists: put an end to Mistanamo.
4. Make hotjoin feels more fair (faster auto-balance, inability to join winning team in case of evenly sized teams, 2 brackets based on rank…).
Solo Q players go AFK, nobody plays.
They promised balance pass bi monthly. They were probably talking about a few number tweak here and there. Don’t expect any design rework… Heck, I don’t even expect them to even realize the crazy amount of power creep they introduced.
First, is there a way to skip the HOTM loading screen in future?
That would be a nice quality of life and, I believe, not requiring serious coding time (like just moving a check ahead).
Just screwing around, don’t take it seriously. :p
I was just saying it’s not a real poll: who in their right mind would say no ?
Anyway, I wish ArenetNet had community managers like Blizzard’s. I’m tired of being kept in the dark, with the feeling of being completely ignored.
So far, only 14% want to be locked into the mists: I think trolls are under represented; but maybe I should blame the original poster for not giving a real choice. It’s like being trapped. So, in fact, only 14% tried to escape from “lack of real choice” jail.
I hope it stacks exponentially because 15 min is nothing…
Both macro and micro are interesting, just like SC2 matches.
Visually I would love to see an option for displaying profession icons on nameplates.
Wait for Leagues. Then you’ll play people on your league.
Even with Leagues, 3-4 weeks every 10 weeks, everyone will be merged like right now. 2 weeks of pseudo-balance transition and, say, a week or 2 before experienced players detach from others.
And that’s not counting premades still screwing solo players, as we have not heard anything about separate queues returning, which is a very VERY bad sign.
If 6th bonus of reaper runes corrupted 1 boon on shouts. It would just take 2 players on an organized team to run shouts to make pvp apocalyptic. Do you honestly think players have enough utility, to survive teamfights while having their boons being constantly corrupted and having conditions applied to them that aren’t from boon corruption.
If you have considered this then you understand that this change is too overpowered.
And yet, 2 players can spam AoE boons like there’s no tomorrow. A spam so strong that a necro fully dedicated to boon corruption can’t even halve the number of boons a single opponent has on average. There’s clearly not enough boon hate. Far from it.
Better obliterate Blighter’s Boon than toning down boons! Boons are life! Boons are everywhere! Boons rule supreme! All hail Boons!
Ahhh, perspective. One man’s stupidity is another man’s genius. Thank god Einstein didn’t listen to his critics or god knows where we would have been today.
Speaking of Einstein, one of his famous quote: “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”
The problem with GW2 is that the balance is too extreme. Burst build can busrt too fast (often from stealth) and bunker can stay alive for too long.
The result? Newbies are constantly dying to burst builds and they can’t take down the bunker builds either. To them, it’s a frustrating experience, and that’s why you will never see an end to QQ about the extreme builds (DH that can burst you in 2s, or Druid that refuse to die 1v2)
As long as GW2 doesn’t close the gap between extreme bunker and extreme burst, we will continue to hear people QQ about it. They just couldn’t find the right words to explain their frustration, and it looks like they are QQing about random build.
Read more about how to make GW2 more fun:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/PvP-needs-to-be-fun-to-play-watch/first
I agree too.
June’s trait revamp introduced a massive power creep but nothing has been toned down. Elite spec introduced another massive power creep and close to nothing has been toned down.
After the d/d ele “nerf” (4 months after they started to rule everything and everyone), they were still a top pick (almost all team had 2). Now, the build hasn’t changed but isn’t deemed OP anymore, relative to the current Elite specs. But don’t be fooled, it is still way too strong, it’s just that almost everything else (bare warrior) is even more OP.
So yeah, (almost) everything is OP. The nerf hammer has gathered enough rust and dust, it’s time to swing it hard and relentlessly.
What’s surprising at this point is that entering shroud doesn’t destroy our minions…
Today I faced a lot of top ESL players in groups of 2-4 (I love solo q…) and power (nexed, drarnor, my own soldier/cavalier builds) clearly doesn’t cut it (at least on EU).
So I went back to condi and this build did wonders when facing up to 2 players. However, under focus fire in team fights, I’m CC’ed to death and can only hope for a quick rez as I’m slow as kitten and can’t escape at all.
Blockable staff hurts less than I thought, and LF generation is good with YSIM, warhorn and haunt. The stacking buff from runes is pretty strong and easy to get. I used hydromancy on both set, leech on staff and ice on scepter/wh for extra chills.
Good mesmers like Helseth and Frostball were using gravity well, only moa I faced were from average players and it didn’t kill shambling horrors anyway so it was manageable.
I was surprised to do roughly as much physical damage as condi damage, so pets really helped to put some pressure.
Picking on warriors, you bully.
Interesting build, will try it. I still think the heal minion is absolute garbage. Being a ranged minion, if it dies from random AoEs the poison field won’t do much. I would take “Your soul is mine” instead, especially with the shout trait: better heal on shorter CD with life force on top, you can’t go wrong with it.
Marauder, no SR, only one stun break, going into teamfights, you certainly like to live dangerously Nexed.
And Halcyion, 0 stun break with rampager, I would only try that when I’m on tilt. :p
(edited by Ara.4569)
A lot of stability-granting skills haven’t changed since the rework. The sheer amount of hard CCs HoT added is asking for a much needed revisit of these skills. But even more so, I would like to see hard CCs toned down.
Hmm based on my testing and general heresay, it seems that condi-chill reaper will be the most run build in high level pvp, but even then it will be more of a 1v1 hero anti-meta build than an actual meta build itself.
There’s more and more diamond skin tempest. The kittener who designed that trait is a kittening kitten.
@tluv: Try that in PvP and tell me how you feel after just an hour or two.
Reaper was supposed to be a team fighter cleaving with GS, shouts and sustaining in large fights:
- GS is not usable
- sustain in group is now gone
- we still have some nice shouts but if we can’t survive in team fight, why bring any ?
Blighter’s boon was finally giving us life force at the start of a match, and a compensation for not receiving any party heals in shroud. It’s now all gone. Worse: it now forces us to take Spite if we want to benefit from a GM trait.
If BB isn’t reworked, I’m asking for 20-25% LF right on start. It has been long overdue.
Adaptive Armor immediately maxes out its anti-condition, takes only 3s of being hit to match CF, has a 67% higher toughness limit (which also synergizes with conversions better), and is impossible to fall off in a fight, whereas CF has to be actively maintained. The 3s ramp up is pretty much irrelevant, and is the only way in which its weaker.
Cherry on top: a stack lasts 10s on scrapper but only 8s on necro. So you have to have applied condi 10 times in the last 8 sec to keep all stacks: good luck achieving that when you have to survive and avoid tons of hard CCs.
I think shroud is a bad class mechanic and should be completely reworked. But, if that’s not possible, I think adding some chill to axe skill 3 and perhaps buffing it in some other form could go a long away to alleviating some of your gripes (which I share… ).
But yeah, shroud mechanic is kinda whack. I think getting rid of it and replacing it with several different class abilities and allowing the player to intelligently pick which to use would be a better design and more fun for the players.
Yeah, shroud is holding us back since forever. It wasn’t a well throughout mechanic (it was our downstate to begin with, no wonder we are supposed to be in downstate
).
Balancing that “extra health bar” must be a nightmare. We are either nigh impossible to kill or kissing the ground every time. I think it would be best for both devs and players to rework it.
I wish life force was just a resource (that could be used to leech/heal) and not passively used to soak damage as well.
Who said the necro community was better ? Bury the hatchet guys.
If you want to pick a fight, go for anet imbalance team.
The “death magic soldier reaper” is nowhere near scrapper level. Just compare Corrupter’s Fervor to Adaptive Armor, have a maddening laugh, then try to imagine that it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
It’s tough to learn a new profession after 3 years of necro, but think about how rewarding it will be. Ok, I also try to convince myself here.
(edited by Ara.4569)
I firmly think that everything should be nerfed, at various degrees. The power creep is getting out of control. Too many hard CCs, cleanses, active defenses, everything really, at various degrees.
In my opinion, a rapid succession of balance passes is required to sanitize the mess it has become.
The 360 range on the 1 sec chill is just adding insult to injury.
Also, chrono runes are way better on chronomancers: we don’t have an elite well (and their gravity well is crazy good), our healing well doesnt synergize with anything I can think off and is pretty bad (their healing well can heal for a ton in 3 ticks).
Blood magic (to improve wells) can’t compete with Spite to begin with, or I wasn’t able to find a good blood reaper build yet.
It was fun for a few matches to land quick gravediggers and exec scythe though, but that’s about it, in my opinion.
(edited by Ara.4569)
Nerfs aren’t popular and anet doesn’t realize power creep is killing pvp. 2 things that smell bad. But let’s wait and see the first balance patch before anything. At least it won’t be in 6 months, for once.
