Spirit Ranger or Fresh Air Ele, look up some videos of ‘top tier’ players using these builds and you’ll do fine, you just have to know when to use what and it doesn’t matter who you face really.
yeah but u should add if u choose fresh air ele he should install a macro just incase the battle heats up, so that the 1second press more than 5 buttons kombo never miss. u know he is a starter

Hm, I don’t care about having OP builds because I don’t tpvp as much as others. But I think it’d be nice if you guys gave some input whether you think the Ele Burst is over the top now in the hands of a competent player. Is it just a faceroll combo? What risks do you have? What are your hardest enemies. Anyways, gl with the podcast Aiden!

Desaturating/fading non-players is a good idea. As for selecting targets in follow cam, are you referring to switching targets, or just selecting a target to see their buffs, hp, etc. While not a major concern, it would just have to override target of target.
I just want to see their buffs/hp. It’s hard to see how effective a person is by numbers alone and the more information about the players, the better. But it’d be nice to do both (click to see buffs and click to switch).
With the mix of evades, healing, and a blind ontop of other buffs and a res elite—it’s really hard to fight them. Even if you land signet of spite on them directly and with all of their other spirits, The damage they do to you while you set that up already put them in the lead. Good spirit rangers won’t summon all of them at one time either. And these passive no skill buffs work for them and their pets I believe. Spirit rangers need to be balanced. Their ability to remove 3 condis every 10s and protection every dodge roll along with self-healing makes them so hard to kill 1v1. You need to coordinate a cc then burst them down.
Some things you can do against them:
-If they run troll’s urgent, you need to make sure to interrupt their heal cast with doom or reaper’s mark.
-If you see a huge spirit, it’s the revival + healing spirit, kill it to stop the ranger from reviving if downed and also stop him from getting even more access to self-healing.
-Spirit rangers have no stun breaker (unless they trait for it, which is 1). Make sure you bait their evades and cc them effectively to land bursts.
Other than that, gl until the next balance patch. Pet + Spirits + Self-Healing + Evades + Protection + Condi cleansing. They have it all in 1. AI support + passive buffs + sustained healing, easy access to evades, easy access to protection, and auto condi cleansing. The only thing they lack is stun breakers, so if you can’t burst them down fast enough during a cc opportunity, it’s a shame. Or you can try bunkering? but I haven’t seen many necros do that in tpvp matches.
I want to be able to click on people without having to be in the fixed camera viewpoints..
Yeah, I definitely see a great use of 100b and it definitely takes some skill to use it well against people who bring stunbreakers/condi removal—so no it doesn’t need a revision. The issue here is the GS’s lack of any other option except 100b to cleave or whirlwind for an evade. The GS is a great 2 skill weapon (maybe 3 skills if you count rush as a movement only skill), but really it lacks a good GS 4, GS 5, and F1. Blade trail is fine but subpar—-I really insist on making it a riposte of somesort giving warriors more sustain. Rush really needs to be bull’s rush not the animation it is currently—it’s had 2 revisions and it’s still bad. I almost forget we have an F1—it needs to have a better effect or more damage. Fury is easily accessible to warriors and the dmg is so low it’s not worth trying to use to finish someone (and adrenaline is precious!)
Most likely will be a hard reset until they come up with a seasonal system with better leaderboard ranking algorithms.
They should have exp scrolls that can be bought with glory and maybe have a rank requirement.
They mentioned that they are going to have a better punishment system for leavers—perhaps a timeout. Ideally they’ll have a system smart enough to pick out leavers from d/cers. But unfortunately, all we know is that “It’ll be out when it’s ready” lol gg
Yeah disengaging with thief is easy let alone the spike advantage for taking down plunderers. Soloing is so much easier than doing it with a group, even if it’s coordinated.
So the way it works (as in it’s a bad design) is you have to do them in order. You don’t have access to advanced support until you finish dedicated. To finish dedicated, choose the last option in the dialogue menu (each option from the top-down is t4 to t1 respectively). You can see what tier you are on from the event description. Finish tier 1 then tier 2. Even if you finished tier 1 already (if you haven’t finished it in the same instance) you have to redo tier 1 then tier 2. Aka if you finish tier 1 on day 1, quit, then come back on day 2 you have to redo it to get credit for t2. Same thing with advanced support. You have to start from t3 and then go to t4.
My picture keeps going to relief even when Im in the same area as my party. Odd.
You need to be in the same instance not area. If you cannot see your party member’s face (all of them), then that means they wont’ get an invite if you start it, similarly with any of them who start it—you won’t get an invite if they start it in a different instance (real map vs overflow vs server). You need to guest to the same server + make sure you are on the same map instance (default or overflow) then go in. There is a Kiel and an Evon Candidate Trials and the entrance to both of them are different. You do not need badges for this achievement. Just go into the correct instance.
You should look into the Espt guild (stickied thread in the spvp Looking For Team forums) or you can consider joining AOTM! We randomly pug guildmates to tpvp—we have a TS server for better communication and we randomly hold super fun scrim nights with random teams to 5v5 with (just for fun to try out new things)
Binding Jeopardy*
Counters should only be available if you lose. From my experience, winners should choose first what they play, then losers can change after them. However the first game should always be random.
Yeah it’s pretty annoying :< +1
I think the game messages are off by default. So the new player would have to actually turn it on and then be curious enough to see what room 102 is (and make friends).
No thank you on changing 100 Blades. All this would do is destroy the synergy it has with Mace/Shield currently. This would be an unneeded change that would just hurt the class further imo.
Yeah 100b is fine lol. I don’t know how this topic got strayed away from the point of Rush being bad and F1 + GS 4 also being useless. Make them better, don’t go changing the whole GS when the other skills are fine.
Yeah, most people will be where the living story hotspots are
Bunker warriors are pretty viable now—-maybe too viable. Faced a guy from team paradigm running a support banner warrior and he was harder to take down than any guard I’ve faced on my burst build. Still need to see how it fairs against condis, but direct damage is useless against them even if they stood their and dps’d them on your GC.
Make Rush into an evade and the animation similar to bull’s rush ending with a thrust (maybe re-use final thrust animation). Make GS4 into riposte. Make Arcing Slice destroy boons based on adrenaline.
If you want to make silly claims, prove them. Instead you come on here and cry about it to no end, and then attack anyone who doesn’t agree with you. People have discussed counters but you ignore them.
The only argument you have is ’I’ve played more than you! so I know better!’
I just cannot stop laughing.
I never said that lol. I don’t know what’s more silly, a pve person talking about pvp matchups or me making a claim based off experience. Whether there is a counter or not it’s very slim and one build shouldn’t have to force someone to have to hard counter 1 specific guy on the team—at least on a tpvp queue (I’m not talking about tournaments where you know who you are facing). How do I know if this ranger runs spirits? Just in case? Nah, there should be some balances in that build or remove it totally. AIs are a cool concept but it’s not really competitive when their is no micro involved.
I don’t know how many matches you’ve been in where a premade dumps all over a shorthanded team, but since Anet has a dishonored punishment system coming I think it might give a hint of how lopsided those matches are.
What can you possibly contribute to this discussion with that little experience in pvp? Gifs and kitten comments based on no experience are a waste of yours and anyone else’s time who reads your ignorant garbage
This is why your thread is not getting taken seriously. You are getting emotionally involved. I thought I was doing you a by service letting you know.
Not only this, but I happen to play a ranger, and I’m sure that’s 40 or so more tourny’s on ranger that I’ve done than you, so I suppose you could say I have more experience with the topic at hand than you yourself do if you want to use such poor logic. Not that it matters of course, the number of tourney’s played doesn’t really mean anything, it’s just the only thing you have left to distract from your already poor argument.
While I may sit here and laugh at you for getting upset and making rather hilarious arguments, I’m not here to call you ignorant, or attack you for how many tourney’s you have done. You are here to make an argument (which isn’t getting taken seriously), I’m just here for the entertainment.
Nah Spirit Rangers pretty OP. Support + Sustain + DPS in one package is pretty fun to deal with (sarcasm). I don’t mind the challenge, but it’s pretty weird when a class just has to run around auto-attacking to win or hold off long enough for someone to come in and insta-kill you (but usually that’s not necessary). Passive traits will never teach a person skill. A skill shouldn’t have the ability to empower all nearby allies and have active skills while being active on a somewhat 24/7 battle prescence. Sure, they are killable, but the time it takes you to take care of them will allow the other person + their pet wailing on you to have a good head start in the 1v1. Rangers don’t need utilities when they have dodges on at least 3 weapon sets that are highly viable let alone their pet chasing you down with useful f3 skills on hand.

The fall of Abaddon is kinda vague…or did Anet confirm whether it meant the battle between the six gods or when kormir became a god.
Not sure where they said it, but I believe quartz will be available in living story content going forward. So even if you don’t have a node, it’ll still be farmable.
you are not playing a ghost very well if the person has time to get away…
After 20 kakra kills I have yet to let a single person get away. It is crazy OP.
I’m speaking from the other end here. I’ve had the karka spawned on me numerous times and got away each time. I did have to dodge one or twice but still successful.
It’s them invisible traps that getcha.
I get the impression that the people asking for lifeforce at the beginning of games have failed to utilize the class to it’s fullest potential which makes it a L2P issue.
In the case of stealth-bursts this is not the case. The only thing a necromancer can do is plague-form to survive such a burst. Also as a guardian myself, it is very hard to survive stealth openers. It’s more about lucky dodging and block-prediciton than anyting else. In this specific scenario it has nothing to do with L2P.
Simple fact is necro have the ability to mitigate A TON of burst as shown in the video. Very close in comparison to a lot of other classes that have similar damage output. I’m personally not against stealth openers because I find it interesting but that’s just my opinion. My post was not to justify stealth openers but to provide evidence that necro has the ability to mitigate burst damage.
For normal bursts absolutely, but not for stealth-openers. There is no viable way to generate life-force before. Only thing you can do is put marks and you hope you gonna survive it.
well actually you do. with the flesh golem trick you can start the game with 10% which will still help mitigate a lot of damage when using the combo in the video. Like I said, I’m not defending stealth openers. That issue deserves its own thread.
Doesn’t that mean you have to play with golem during the match or is there a chance to pick another ultimate? Because you know . . . plague- and lich-form are ten times better.
Noo xD I think a few players need to actually learn about this ‘glitch’ or ‘exploit’ or ‘hidden mechanic’. The 10% life force generation is a trick where you summon the golem (don’t use it’s charge skill which puts the elite on cd, FYI summoning a golem does not put your elite on cd but upon summoning gives you 10% LF) then switch to your preferred elite => plague form or lich form. Now you have 10% LF at the beginning of the match and then an elite other than golem (and the elite won’t be on a cd). You have to do this within the 10s frame though before skills are locked.
Karka isn’t bad it’s just a mix of karka and the tripping trap. I’d say limit revenge to 10pts at most not 15.
I let someone else place the karka, see which way the living person is going and put the tripping trap right in front of him. They never stand a chance.
Yeah but you can’t coordinate it. Shoot, throw in a 50% chance when the blue orbs appear after an action too. Access to blue orbs should be sparse and should force the ghosts to actually collect them not float in one spot and mass up 15 immediately after death. The skills are fine so it keeps the dead people engaged. But you need to make them work for it.
True, I mean I figured it out already but it’s still horrible design lol.

In the upper left “Events” area, it does indicate what tier the event is.
Doesn’t show until you actually start it…which forces us to have to reset it and guess again!
First off, this is really buggy, when I click “do it again”. I go from Tier 4 to Tier 3, then I have to reset it by exiting or losing. Seriously how hard is it to put tier 1-4 as an option instead of guessing which tier we are on =_=
Compared to thieves—it isn’t OP at all. And you have to land it to stealth right?
Petitions are against the forum code of conduct lol
Hm…I still need this so may check back later on the places listed here
Maybe a heal skill that gives 25% life force.
Well it depends if the rangers choose to use the longbow or just stick with their old evade builds.
It’s really up to Anet, but it may affect people who enjoy solely tpvp and like TotSS. Not all tpvpers actually go into tournies and whatnot.
Hm….wish Merciful Intervention was a stun breaker…but that’s asking for too much xD Gonna drop contemplation for it to see how it pans out in tpvp.
Is it not when traited with Focused Mind? ( I don’t know, I’ve never used it ;-)
Focused Mind makes it instant (Able to cast it in the middle of casting other spells) but I don’t think it makes it a stunbreaker.
Yeah, you’ll teleport but with your cc’d state still in tact. Just hope your teammate isn’t standing in the same exact spot you were in aha
If we are talking about hotjoin, having some sort of reward whether you win or lose would encourage people not to rage quit just because they can. Back in the good ol’ noob days I was discourage when a team was so dominant that getting any sort of points (which is the only thing that matters in spvp) was impossible. Then I am wasiting 5-10 minutes of PvE (more rewarding) playtime every game. Hotjoin is an essential part to spvp and it’s what fosters the newcomers into tpvp. No point in tpvp without players and players won’t grow unless they enjoy spvp.

I don’t log on much because I get depressed I am just sitting in the mists. But I am here everyday.
You should hop onto some AOTM scrims (just for fun)
I think most boon stripping aoes aren’t very harmful.
I think it would be interesting to try out. It’d give counter play if anet brings ‘reveal’ conditions to certain classes. But the acccess to revel would have to be somewhat uncommon like stability so it’s not spammable (and wouldn’t destroy thieves)
Then reveal could be a condition lol
I’m just trying to figure out what would make up for our huge lack of sustain. Guardians have protection + boons all a plenty. Mesmers have invuln/stealth/blink. Rangers have protection + heals + PETs to soak up dmg + evade. Thieves have stealth/shadowstep/evade. Necros have DS and fear. Engis have heals, invuln, condi immunity. Eles have boons/heal. Warriors have nothing. We need some damage reduction access or more block if that’s where they want to go and maybe access to better healing. Given the class, having a blink wouldn’t fit so we won’t have that and having stealth wouldn’t fit either so we need better defense and/or heals.
It seems like Anet wants warrior players to be the most skilled in timings because they put our very little defensive options on super high cds so we have to know when to exactly use skills such as Balanced Stance, Endure Pain, Bzerk Stance and Block. Not much spamming here. Oh got hit by a surprise signet of spite? Too bad.
I also would like longbow F1 to be less of a hassle to use (less cast time?). It may be just me but I have to spam F1 whenever I’m immobilized to get it to shoot. I think we should have an adrenaline trait for damage reduction on adrenaline level. I think we also need better access to combo fields (fire on longbow?). What’s the point of having finishers if we have to rely on teammates to create the combo fields.. :S GS 4 needs to be reworked, it’s the most useless skill on the GS since leg specialist nerf (riposte maybe?). GS F1 needs to be reworked (maybe a kd? increase down time based on adrenaline).
I’d use dagger/pistol. The blind field (pistol 5) will allow you to wreck any PvE that isn’t immune to blind. Plus, you can pistol 5 => dagger 2 (heartseeker) and stealh. Easy access to stealth just in case you gotta disengage from any mobs. But honestly the best way to get to 80 is crafting :S
Didn’t want to start a new thread for something petty but I think GS 5 should be a full evade on dash.
