sPvP Rank Dragon – 8 Champ Titles – Ruby Division
This isn’t the right place to post this thread…good job masking the title to make it seem relevant
Necro, just condi bomb everything
Agree with all the complaints except the permanent finishers; I actually like them :x
But yes, they should add a rank requirement or # of tournies played to actually get them with glory or so
The last two questions wouldn’t apply to this forum; but
1. We have amulets because it makes balancing easier
2. Not sure why they changed it—it may be because the combo stat was imbalanced?
3. It’s been forgotten
4. They want you to earn it with each character because they believe in roleplaying
Can’t wait til the day they buff spirit weapons.
Man wish I could time travel to see the show
If I am not mistaken, you can get him from Moto, the backpack is from one of the tabs iirc.
Dont worry. Someone who is good will come up with a new ranger build then all you baddies can jump on the bandwagon. Hang tight.
^ haha, awesome comment.
Fair enough. Then define the minimum effort a novice needs to put in to understand how to play a build. Where do we draw the line? (see the logical issue here?)
That varies depending on how fast the player learns. Mastering something in week for one person could only take maybe a few days for another.
IMO, low skill floor means you don’t need to do anything exceptionally well to do well. For example, shooting a person with a shortbow is a low skill floor. On the other hand, hitting someone with an autoattack on the greatsword is a higher skill floor (maybe not by much, but it’s pretty hard getting in there and landing hits compared to ranged autoattacks).
On that note, I don’t think anything with a low skill floor will be approved by time investment. Just because a guy spent 1 year mastering ranger (sorry for picking on this class btw), doesn’t mean I will acknowledge that him playing a build with a low skill floor is anything praise-worthy. In fact, I will get pretty ticked off if he beats me often when the amount of effort he has to put into it is less and it produces better results than me putting in more effort.
The only thing that would make these low skill floor builds more ok is if they had a cost that you could really ‘exploit’ so to speak if you were good enough—-essentially an opportunity for countering if you were skilled enough. For example, using the shortbow example earlier; if we allow the greatsword user to destroy the bows if he times his autoattack well enough (sort like Link vs. Ganondorf). This gives skilled players a better way of dealing against it and it requires a decent amount of skill level to play against, but the effort pays off.
At the end of the day, low skill builds should only be able to cheese the crap out of noobs imo. They should not be able to be played competitively without having a good window of soft counters. I know the builds nowadays aren’t as easy as a shortbow AA vs GS AA, but the idea is that everything should have a decent counter if you are skilled enough and shouldn’t require a hard counter just to beat it or the perfect game (lots of rng x_x and things happen to just go your way)
Summoning a pet and/or keeping a pet alive should steal life from you imo. There’s not real cost to having them given that your class’s weapon sets are already enough to handle most situations w/o the need of essential utilities.
I don’t think it’s bannable since it’s been ages since people have been doing it. On that note though, it’ll probably be nerfed after higher priorities are taken care of or if they make rank significantly worthwhile to have in the pvp realm.
Another good way to look up builds is using the intothemists.com pvp forums. They have updated links on tournament team builds of all kinds. If you need a training session on some matchups though feel free to send me an in-game mail.
bump for the name even though I absolutely despise Spirit Rangers haha. Also fugazi is a pretty fun person to play with.
I think the current way to see whether an enemy has stability or not is fine (just click on him/her). A good player will wait for stability to wear off while less experienced players will most likely waste their ccs. But I do agree that it’s a bit unorthodox at first. I actually never learned how to fight against heavy stability players until Skyhammer came out and I had to duel competent guardians at the canon—and it became a battle of who could knock one or the other off when their stability wasn’t active.
Maybe they’ll read this thread because they want a pat on the back for their hard work. PAX was a great hit. I’m so glad that it brought in 1 million spvpers.
I have no idea why they thought PAX was so important. We have a broken meta, they gave away $10,000 that could be invested into more development time. Seriously, their pvp dev team is terribad along with their decisions.
They need to hire better developers. We also have a lot of small things they didn’t fix because they thought it’d be more important to give $10,000 to a stupid tourney with a broken meta.
No.
Spirit rangers need to be nerfed and we need actual balance patches. They need to never hold off balance updates because of a tourney ever again. That was the worst call ever.
Anyone going to the fan meet up tomorrow at Dragon Con? Jw.
The combat system is really interesting—-I just wish they actually made it more actiony like you aim to shoot arrows and your auto attack does some cool combo animation other than 3 simple hits.
Spirit Rangers op. Nerf pls.
Am I the only one left that thinks pvp/pve should remain completely seperate?
I think they should consider adding more fringe benefits like bags/dyes for pvping..
Maybe Monthly can give Pvp versions of new pve weapons?
Maybe Minipets?
Maybe Bagspace/bank space items from team/solo arena at a 1/10,000 drop?
Maybe Salvage kits that work in Pvp AND pve? Maybe with 100 charges instead of 15?
Why does it take so long to salvage pvp weapons as opposed to whites in pve?Who came up with the brilliant idea of 15 Salvage kits for pvp?Honestly, terrible design (BUT BUT WE’LL MAKE EM SPEND GLORY HEUHEUHEUHUHEUHUEHUEHUEHUEH)
More fringe benefits which I’ll never use in pve anyway please.
I’d like the salvage kits to break items without prompting every single item.
I think adding a checklist for hard to remember things is nice. Especially with map completion!
I wish they’d give us skill points if our characters were already level 80 :\
Here’s a few things that can be done to make battles less dependent on the downed system.
1. Limit rally to 1 person. So if 1 guy dies, 4-5 people will not rally it’d be whoever has the highest priority on that person’s death (maybe the one who did more dmg? or so)
OR
2. Remove the rally mechanic. So any person downed must be resurrected directly.
OR
3. Remove Res Skills & Rally.
OR
4. Make Res skills like Elixer R.
OR
5. Put a limit on the amount of times you can res. Maybe after this first res, you’ll die the next time you get downed or res is less effective each time you down aka if 1 person can res you at 5% hp/s, they would res you 3% hp/s the next time you down and so on and so forth. You can also make this a permanent effect until they die and respawn so players who have downed have a disadvantage in being downed again. Or we can add a debuff like the poster above me mentioned.
OR
6. Make it risky to res someone! Ressing requires you to transfer part of your hp pool to get them back up. hehe.
OR
7. Remove downed state, but this one is tricky because this would affect a lot of GW2’s mechanics.
Just some suggestions.

can’t pvp anymore due to this and some immense lag
I’m getting huge lag spikes as well. Can’t pvp at all anymore.
Yeah I wonder if it’s more productive to submit a ticket to get this kind of thing sorted out. Or maybe the Game Bug forum. I want this kind of behavior exterminated just like you but I think there are better ways to get a response.
1) Rewards
2) Nerf Spirit Rangers
3) Get rid of AIs
4) Give Custom Arenas more control such as /gameend and/or changing rules on the fly without having to reset.
If they are both in the same game pvp/pve, their rewards should be the same. There shouldn’t be pvp armor and pve armor, you should be able to get both; both ways. Being able to make money as a pvper would be nice too.

They could have at least made Quality of Life fixes for PvP such as better custom arena options and/or commands to use as an owner, better camera controls and navigation when spectating, etc since they don’t want to change anything until after PAX. But instead let’s just release subpar pve skins and subpar storylines.
Ty yet again. What about Rangers? I’ve heard a lot of tears.. er .. talk.. about Spirit Rangers recently. I’m guessing they’re.. mid-point defenders due to the spirit buffs affecting a team?
They can be either. Rangers are in fact squishy if you were to make them take hits standing compared to other classes—the reason why they are one of the best builds is their ability to do sustained dps with high defense around proccing protection/regen and then having evades on their weapon sets along with vigor access and regular dodges. Unlike guardian, you can get high defense attributes w/o sacrificing damage (through condis usually but before BM nerf, they could get sustained damage on their BM build via their pet while having high def). Playing backpoint, spirit rangers are one of the best 1v1 classes (matchup wise). Playing mid, they can be one of the greatest assets with their spirit buffs and elite res.
I support FF. /15char
Spirit Rangers are low-skill, but have high potential. Thus, people can pick up spirit rangers fairly easily and do well with them, but there are also people who can raise the bar and unleash even more potential making them pretty OP compared to a majority of the other classes and builds.
Spirit Rangers do not have a stun breaker except 1 when traited and that’s basically all they really need. You’ll find yourself most of the time being kited in 1v1s or intercepted by teammates in teamfights so this whole ‘cc’ business can be pretty rough to pull off if you aren’t a necro with ranged fear or a warrior who can bull’s rush => mace stun or so.
1. Give rangers more viable builds.
2. Nerf spirit rangers to the ground because it’s really a terrible concept.
3. Never buff AI builds unless you give a micro option which forces the players to have to control their adds in order for them to function.
Spirit Ranger and/or Necro
Down with the spirit rangers!
I’d play any dps guard that doesn’t require a staff. Staff is boring :S
They should introduce unrated along with rated soloq (and teamq) but rated has a requirement so only experienced players can participate to make the games more even. There also needs to be a better matchmaking system and/or leagues but having leagues requires a huge player base or the queue times would be too long.
This is sPvP we are talking about. The counter is just to stand in the capture zone and cap it since invisible players do not count.
The OP is posting about WvW and is asking the sPvP forums if we have a way of dealing with it. There is no way to deal with it fighting-wise, that is the response. We aren’t talking about the game mode.
It’d be nice to have an option to see the people around me like in WvW. It’d help me feel less lonely. Ofc make it an option so people who don’t want it don’t have to use it. Really sad that the only way I can tell someone is there is when they die.
I wish we could transmute pve skins to pvp with the exception of legendaries if people think they are too fancy.
I was not willing to read all of your opinions so I apologize if I simply repeat what some of you have already stated. I also play a ranger, and I do not like the class in any team situation apart, however they are great for 1 vs 1 (I use triple shout build). Actually Ill be honest I really hate the class. Anyway since your thread started with a circumstance in which the ranger down stated won let me present a counter circumstance in which the ranger down state does not win in 1 vs 1 if both players go down at the same time. Well basically a warrior has a better down state than ranger if they have the vengeance traited, If a ranger is downed same time as a warrior the warrior will be the first to get up and can simply pop stability and down the ranger before the pet is able to rally the ranger. Second of all there are utlity skills so that other classes can rally quickly as well such as engineer elixir R, or the warrior war banner (I admit these are rarely used). Thirdly, there are counters to the pet rezzing the ranger, not to mention they die so quickly to conditions and aoe. Lastly, as i play ranger as well I can vouche that you will barely ever get the chance to even pop your downed skill number 3 to rally your pet to rez you. The only chance you get to use it is if you have been downed and for whatever reason no enemy targets you right away.
I think the OP is talking about a 1v1 situation. If you gave the fight your all and you both are low on hp and you both get downed, he’ll win. Warriors no doubt have the best downed state, but he’s talking about guard vs. ranger in this example. But any other class other than warrior would lose to the ranger in a downed state battle.

Mesmers just need a good source of stability or condi removal to deal with the meta—-more so condi removal. Other than that I would say duelist does need a slight nerf, it’s the hardest phantasm to deal with especially if the mesmer places their phantasms spread out and then kites you the whole time.
Yeah there is no counter with stealth. If they want to keep it, I would suggest make it more apparent that you are hitting someone in stealth AKA show the dmg you do if you actually hit them like the damage pop ups you get normally. Also, revealed should work for all skills—I’m looking at you shortbow 4 and caltrops.
if (map != temple)
map = temple;
log.clear(); //No issues here.
Couldn’t the guardian use #2 to interrupt the pet heal?
It’ll just walk right back and heal after being knocked away.
Let’s play dota2
Direct because conditions is for nubs. Honestly though as someone mentioned in another thread, conditions should be an added effect not a real source of damage.
Ranger Spirits are the biggest offender here. The models are large, and they always encircle the ranger. This causes the Ranger to benefit from constant cover that is both passive and mobile.
Some Necromancers, and Mesmers have the same benefit, but at least their pets and illusions/phantasms attack things and move around. The Spirits are large and body block many ranged attacks and never leave the ranger’s side.
Yeah, their summons mitigate aoe and act as defense orbs running around you. What I’d give for my spirit weapons to keep up with my speed.
The QQ level on this thread is high and ridiculous. As a spirit ranger and based on experience die to assassins warriors mesmers and necro. If spirit ranger is OP, following logic, i would be invincible to them right?
Spirit Rangers are there to separate skilled players from unskilled ones. The skilled ones never lose to them and the unskilled ones go to forums and QQ.
If spirit ranger is OP, it means it’s imbalanced and has major advantages over other choices. Spirit rangers separate the people who have to try 200% harder to win from the people who just give in and reroll spirit rangers.
