5000 posts and no reply from ArenaNet makes me sad.
You know why? Cause you kittens and pugs, are pretty much forcing them to write the perfect blog ever to avoid this ragefest again. because once they say something you guys will die by it and they cannot take it back. Look, some even want to do some very rude thing in establishing t-shirts or whatnot or a sign with Colin’s pants on fire? or whatnot…seriously guys, calm the eff down. You bought the game, but Anet made the game. It’s their game. You can show displeasement about what it’s become but seriously calm down, say what you need to say, and get out if you don’t like it anymore. These threats and rage call-outs on one hypocritical statement is ridiculous. People make mistakes and say some things that they may have to take back later. A lot of people have shown their displeasement, but let’s leave it at that. Quit it with the hatred you immature crowd -_-.
However, I have to add if these vocal players in this thread that are upset about the changes are the only ones who are pissed off about this change, ANet has succeeded.
What I see are the same handful of posters continuing to rage about something that’s done and in the books as of Friday.
If youre posting on the forums at all, you are already part of a minority regardless of your opinion on this change. Most players do not post on the forums at all. So we have two minority camps here with extremely opposing opinions of this change. Which camp is bigger? The one that hates the gear treadmill. Why is ANet listening to the smaller camp? Is it just because they were the only ones kittening all this time? The rest of us didnt have anything to kitten about. Now we do and we’re coming out in droves.
Or, you are in fact in the minority, and they have the data to back it up.
And you’re just as quick to assume that their data supports your side. People bought this game knowing that it’s not WoW and are now complaining that it isnt. What about all the people that bought this game -because- its not WoW? Don’t they get a say in all this? Or will the 100 pages of this thread and counting just be ignored so ANet can get some of that fabled WoW money?
I don’t know why…why at all this new addition changes the fact that you had a great time with the game for 3 months now. Tell me any game other than “competitive” games than has kept your attention for this long…seriously, you bought the game and they gave you something that lasted 3 months. And now because of 1 addition that has barely any explanation on it, you negate the value of the game and call Anet liars? In fact, the day before it was announced, the game had value—and you know what? It still has value. Anet has taken nothing from you. The game still has everything they promised. Things have to change to keep people interested and make things more exciting. And by all means, the significance of this change is negligible. The fact that they didn’t introduce 10 tiers on top of this one along with new weapon tiers probably was based solely on people who are against any new gear progression.
Those of you who think it affects WvW, it does not. Those who like 1v1s are not playing it right or even in small groups aren’t playing it right if you are losing due to stat differences. As stated before many people can hold their ground with low-tier armor. This is a skill-based game and that’s why armor doesn’t matter in small fights.
Those of you who think it affects dungeons, it should not this only helps future dungeons which is okay because I wouldn’t like seeing level 35s in arah dungeon. And they cannot really add new dungeons with higher levels can they? No. But even then it may be too much of a grind for you? Seriously, extension is a great thing. The fun part of gw2 is everything. You can do any segment of this game without having to worry about a gear-grind because it doesn’t not matter but it does help where appropriate.
I can go to Orr with all white gear and make it through. Will it be hard? Probably. But I can still make it through. You do not need this new armor to do any part of the game that exists right now…Gawsh
Well Miyamoto always told me that the current Link game will be the last…but what do you know! And I still play it.
I hope everyone here who has ever complained still has an old computer, with Windows 98 or an iPhone 3g or perhaps the original iPhone and wants to complain at Microsoft and Apple for making new items, because they have to keep up with the “gear treadmill”. Well if you want to quit those things, especially if you have an iPhone 4, I’ll take them :O

Or, they fully intended to go the route they had “promised” only to find out it wasn’t going to meet the needs financially.
What would you have them do? Just allow the game to crash and burn?
Reality has a way of being a kitten when it comes to lofty ideals meeting a market driven economy.
GW1 was f2p from the start and had multiple expansions. That game was successful enough to warrant a sequel. This game is doing fine.
This isn’t 2004.
The market is a ton more competitive now. Furthermore, GW2 isn’t GW1. Not even close. The design of the game is completely different across the board.
This is a real MMORPG. People expect mechanics that will keep them engaged in their characters.
You can’t get by with MMOG mechanics in a MMORPG in 2012. There has to be a carrot or a reason for folks to keep playing.
And horizontal progression gets older faster than vertical.
Precisely.
Pulling all of the emotion out of this debate, you really have to consider the “Why.”
Why add vertical progression? I assert that it’s because their current model of horizontal progression isn’t retaining customers as they hoped it would. Furthermore, they likely had this entire model in their backpocket if the numbers stacked up this way.
It’s simple, Either you want Guild Wars 2 to be around as a healthy and profitable game for ANet and NCSoft for the next 3-5 years, or you want outdated mechanics from 2004.
They are, in my opinion as ANet has figured out, mutually exclusive, and it’s coming home to roost now as Ascended Gear.
Sorry man, but NCSoft’s financials just don’t mimic what you’re posting. Frankly put, the game had a massively successful launch and continues to be successful to this day. The problem is, that the suits who make the decisions get jealous of Blizzard. Period.
You cannot compete with WoW. This has been proven time and time again. The only thing that will kill WoW is Blizzard.
My interpretation of the numbers is far different than what the marketing speak out of NCSoft was.
Those numbers are far below what they should be for a title of this quality and size.
I want to be clear about something here :
I am not stating that a gear grind is the RIGHT way to do things. There are plenty of other ways you can add in character progression that’s more fun and more engaging.
However, the advantage to gear is this :
1. It’s quick. Same stats, marginally better, with a gated content slot. Easy to put it into the game, takes relatively little balance if the increases are largely the same across the board.
For whatever reason, and you can debate the why, I have my opinion, and you have yours, but, ANet clearly needed something “Quick.” If time wasn’t of the essence here, they would’ve gone a different route.
May I ask what you are basing your assertion that GW2 is essentially in a downward spiral on? Please do not say XFire
.
This move.
Give me another logical reason that you would completely alter the core philosophy of all of your marketing and game design less than 3 months after the game launched.
It’s simple, the only reason you would do something like that is because the current model isn’t working. The blog post said as much. “We’ve listened to player feedback.”
This is a calculated move. ANet knows that this move is likely going to alienate a certain percentage of their players, however, it’s likely to open up the game to more players, who will stay longer and play more, and put more cash into the shop.
It’s not that difficult to decipher.
It’s not going to bring in as many people as it pushes away and the people that it does bring in won’t stay for long because that crowd has no loyalty.
No, you guys have no loyalty. Whether someone betrays you are not, you should still be loyal if you are say you are loyal. Whether the people who left were loyal to begin with, they’ll continue to play if it’s a good game and that’s what Anet is working on. They are going to give it a chance at every corner and come back at new releases. But for you “loyal” fans who are leaving after this one release. Overtime, the people who leave and comeback will overrule how much you’ve put into the game.
This question only works if the majority of the games population answers this question. For that the majority of the players would have to be on the forums. I’m pretty sure more than half of the people who play never visit the forums.
So who were the people that were for it? Because Linsay states that the decision was made due to feedback of the community. Well, it’s certainly not THIS community, I think that is pretty obvious now.
This is actually something that I’d love to know myself. I really wish they would tell us exactly how they find out this stuff. I’m all for the new content coming in, but this one thing remains a mystery to everyone. To be fair, I think it’s something we should all know the specifics of.
This. Quoted and bolded for truth.
Because if the devs haven’t noticed by now, the feedback since the announcement has been overwhelmingly negative. So the question becomes, who the kitten thought this was a good idea and who the kitten is actually getting precedence (suggestions-wise)? Several popular and oft-asked for features eg. TP preview, FoV slider, appearance change, guild halls etc. have not been added, yet Anet had the time to implement this kind of nonsense.
Forums are the worst place to get a survey. And let’s not forget the many threads complaining about what to do at lvl80 that piled up over the course of 3 months. You kinda forgot that. Quit trying out the mob effect, and thinking you guys represent everyone. This is a hot topic that’s why there’s a huge thread. And gaining more playable content will help get some groups back. What’s wrong with that? You want Gw2 to be a successful game, but you do not want to support it if it goes a certain way. Some of us actually want to support a game if it’s good. Not by what some manifesto/blog said.
They lied to us for years.

Evidence for anything you have said = nothing.
Your not smart or clever. We all understand your boring viewpoint now so kindly move along and let us be sad in peace.
Evidence is their update. Also, it’s hard for us to be happy in peace when all the threads are being merged into this depressing ragefest.
That isn’t evidence though is it. The only people happy are forum trolls who probably have $0 spent in the gem store and have played under 100 hours or havent played much in weeks. nobody cares about them. I play the game and promise you that almost everyone thinks this is the worst update in the history of gaming. This is the fork in the road and the beginning of the end for guild wars 2.
Or the happy people could be people who give more credit to the game than you guys. shrug Whether it’s the end, I’m going to play. Sorry to see you leave because I think it’s fun. And no, I do not play WoW before shots fire off. I played Maplestory which I hated gear grinding and the 200 lvl system and I played Dragon Nest, which I enjoyed a lot because of the combat system but it didn’t have enough lore. Gw2 is my happy medium.
There has to be a carrot or a reason for folks to keep playing.
Let the carrot be fun, instead of more stats. Why can’t they just release the new dungeon with the new mechanic but NOT make the gear any better than exotics? They are blatantly trying to appeal to the WoW crowd that only plays to constantly upgrade their gear.
What if I told you the carrot was fun and it had more stats?
The fact that it has more stats forces every competitive player to acquire it in order to reattain equal footing with everyone else, like it was before they decided to introduce this. Success should be defined by skill, not gear. With this new dungeon, they’re making it about gear. If you don’t have the gear, you won’t be able to complete the dungeon. If you don’t have the gear, you won’t be equally geared with the players that do have it in WvW. The mindset of a PvP’er is to gain any edge they possibly can to achieve victory. They will go after this new gear because it has a stat increase over what they’re using. Now they have to do PvE to get the gear they need to PvP. Even this wouldn’t go over well in Warcraft.
PvP already has its on realm that cannot be pierced by PvE content. WvW and PvE should not be affected by it, it will not be a significant factor in anything.
Now, if you are talking about the insecurities of “competitive” players in the game who for some reason do things normally but have to be on par with other people for whatever reason…that’s a different story.
And for dungeons, find your niche. Quit joining elitist groups. And put more effort in a thread for a LFG system.

Skimmed through this thread as far as I can see this is all speculations.
First and foremost this isn’t a gear treadmill, and GW2 do not require a constant
number in their gamer population. This game is meant to be played by setting goals
and going for it. That is why its not a sub based game in the first place. The devs don’t
even require to bring in a new tier so early on in the game stage but the fact they do
means they got alot more stuffs installed.
If a minority of the population are still in denial and hate the changes or progression
however its called. It might be the time to take a break and maybe come back to Tyria
in a couple of months.
WvW uses pve gear.
Have spent my fair share in WvW and trust me the amount of damage you input isn’t a factor that is just based on a couple of stat points. If your finding yourself in 1v1 situations in your world, your just doing it wrong.
That’s the honest truth right there.
Having the biggest zerg or the greatest coverage is always gonna win you the game no matter how good ur gears are.
WIthout the pvp factor, the new gear is essentially for PVE. So what’s wrong about being able to kill stuff faster OR having something better to work towards rather than pure skins?
Regarding WvW…
Yes, it is true that the bigger zerg will typically win a battle for an objective, and minor statistical differences between players isn’t too big of a deal.
But, you are ignoring a whole other facet of WvW that many of us enjoy immensely. And that is the whole idea of small gank-squads/spec-ops/harassers that just roam around WvW taking out other players…typically larger groups of players due to their superior skill, strategy, builds and yes, level/gear.
The problem we have is that adding another tier of gear means that for us wanting to play that kind of spec-ops role…we will be forced to grind the new dungeon just to be on par with the other players. And that sucks.
Nope. People can still use consumables and have the same advantage.
WvWvW – you do know how cross swords work on the map, yeah?
Not everyone zergs…
Yeah, but if you lose to a guy on a WvW map. Who is to know how many consumable buffs he has? WvW is war. I’m just saying it’s silly to blame WvW losses to ascended armor.
So basically, the majority of this game does not want us to be able to get better things to kill the same things they are killing.
WvW does not count, it’s about tactics and zerging. And we do not have PvP let alone 1v1 PvP. Come on guys, we all have that opportunity to get better to fight off the risen or whatnot, I feel like there’s a Zhaitan conspiracy amongst players. They do not want us to be able to fight new enemies.
I’m confused on why people bought gw2 out of ALL the things they said they would have on the fact that there was no gear-treadmill. It’s like “Low-Gear Anonymous” here in this thread.
I bought the game because of the gameplay, I never even knew they made such a claim. And I for one think I appreciate this game more than half of these people in this thread which is sad. Seriously guys, have you not even wondered whether this tier of gear was intended for the game upon release but pushed back for a big update?
And if you guys quit and blow up over this final additon to the gear tiers—that would seem silly. You guys who hate this ascended gear have such little faith in Anet and also need some self-esteem therapy.
Gear isn’t everything. That’s what the game is about. If you really think gear in this game is the real game changer then you need to re-evaluate how you play the game and I’m not saying that you have to adapt, I’m saying you need to pay attention to the game you are playing in front of you and see how much slight stat buffs change your experience compared to weapon skills/utilities/traits.
If you wore this armor and auto-hit everything, would you win a majority of battles in this game? No. If you do, then good for you, but from my experience, the weapons you choose, the utilities you use, and traits you have are your foundation.
Gear with better stats is something that’s needed. By golly there’s so much of the map that hasn’t been opened yet. I would hope that some of this content is freaking difficult and you’d have to get your stuff together before venturing there. I think this MMO would be absolutely ridiculous if you were to create a character and be able to go into Orr from the start.
Yes, I am Link, with a wooden sword and shield, but you know what. I’m gonna destroy Ganondorf with it, cause that’s all I need. Think again. I hope most of you guys who play have had the joy to experience the classic rpgs and adventure games where we needed that character to get the best weapon to beat the boss.
Anyways, I’m not saying you NEED gear tiers, but I think it’s okay to have SOME. And by golly, 1 gear tier slightly better is just 1 tier.
I believe the most amazing part of an MMO is being able to look at the game and know there there is so much out there that you can experience. “Oh man, I really can’t wait to be able to go to the Ring of Fire. I’m going to work for it!” What happened to that mentality? You know, the whole world isn’t full of people who are LFG 80s exotics only.
Also, if order to get this gear, you need to do the dungeon. That means the dungeon is do-able for the most part with exotics (not sure how it scales tho near the end…if there is an end?). I highly doubt people at this point will be like LFG 80s ascended only. If so, we need a LFG system more than anything right now.
Everyone can experience this content. It’s whether you choose to or not.
Quit feeling insecure. It’s not a race to the best gear and if you want people who will accept you for your lack of top gear then join my guild or something or a nice guild and I will help you get it. Have faith in the people who roam about still “LFG just to have fun” and let’s all tackle this new content together?
Gahhh I wish I wasn’t going to be away for the opening event, but I hope people don’t find a weakness to the enemies too early….I want to join in on the discovery of how to penetrate their armor :O
Yeahh, I hope they have capes XD. Ever since trying to find a vendor for a good back item, I’ve been wanting capes since tthe gw2 wiki says that its an option. And maybe more slimmer heavy armor too. I am really excited about the dynamic dungeon.
I need a break away from the other thread that’s giving me stress reading it and need some positives. Please if you want to discuss the new content negativiely/do not support the new content, do not post here! Thanks : ). Anyways, I’m excited for the new content and I wonder what the different stats of the new armor are going to be like/how much of an increase they’ll actually be. Does anyone know much about infusion?
It sounds like people don’t want to play an MMO.
MMOs need to have ways to continually advance your characters, that’s what sets them apart from other online pvp games or single player RPGs with online co-ops.
GW1 was not an MMO, GW2 should not be like GW1.
And as everybody knows, gear treadmills are the only viable way to continue character progression at max level. There isn’t story, or collectibles, or unlocks, or anything silly like that.
As far as this news is concerned, I’m very “meh.” I’m not raging over it, but I’m not excited over it either. I’m just tired. I wish a developer would grow a pair of balls and do something different from everybody else in the industry. Just once. Just for the hell of it.
They are doing something different…I haven’t played a game quite like gw2. Let’s not disregard everything Anet has done for just one piece of information that’s not even detailed. There is progression period. Doesn’t matter what the heck it is, do it because you like doing it. I feel like a majority of people would still be just as happy if you didn’t read said update. Probably without forums/website you wouldn’t even know such gear existed and you’d be fine.
So, when we wish this game had more stuff to do and maybe a slight progression past 80 we should “Quit and realize this isn’t the game for us.” and if this game introduces said little update you guys will “Quit, and realize this game isn’t for you.” Man ya’ll cray cray. Play a game for fun. I’ve never seen people take a game so seriously in regards to mechanics as opposed to lore.
I feel sorry for Anet. Their initial fanbase turn on them so easily.
That’s what happens when the core principle of the game which caused people to be fans of it in the first place is reversed.
Right now people are saying that if this happens it will be bad / they will quit / whatever. Only very few are actually making a decision now because it’s currently unclear what how they are “more powerful”.
But that’s no reason not to discuss something nor is it a reason not to make sure ANet is aware of your concerns.
Discussion & feedback are the purpose of the forums.
Ah I think you mis-interpreted my reference, I’m talking about the people who jumped into conclusions and are throwing threats all over the places. This isn’t a place to threaten people. It’s to discuss possibilities and give our opinion. Shoot, this forum would be more effective if people just wrote yes and no and we just count all the yes’s and no’s because very few people are actually putting valuable posts in this thread.
I admit it did make me a little nervous when I first read the news, because one of the reasons biggest my friends and I enjoy this game is its casual atmosphere towards gear. I’m going to wait for the blog post before any assumptions though. : ) I’m sure it won’t be as bad as our imaginations are making it out to be. Looking forward to the Lost Shores update. ^^
This guy deserves an award. Good mindset, spread the positive energy!
I feel sorry for Anet. Their initial fanbase turn on them so easily.
Actually, if the new gear really has better stats than Arena Net turned on their fanbase not the other way round.
Nope. Game is the friendship. You and Anet are friends. When Anet messes up, you walk away. Anet however is always gonna try to make the game better. And keep the friendship alive. Kinda corny but true. Anet is going to listen to your woes and fix them if bad enough or try to do something else to make you happy, but most of these people don’t care anymore and just walk out without giving it a try. So I agree to disagree, you guys turned on Anet.
Not everyone who playes WvWvW zergs. I know that may, or may not, be a surprise, but we don’t. A group of 3 to 5 people can still do wonders in case you haven’t tried it yet. I think that may only be a small population of the populace though
Hailing from DaOC retail I can say without a doubt that some of us prefer it this way and do very well.
It doesn’t remove the zerg argument I guess. However, I like how the overall stats as they are here and now make it known. T/S-PvP it doesn’t apply because you have what is in the store.
I agree, I do like the small group effort, but unless organized well enough, it won’t beat a full out zerg fest in capturing points. :\
I feel sorry for Anet. Their initial fanbase turn on them so easily.
So…I hope people buy this game to have fun and get new updates not because of one little thing that doesn’t affect anyone except those who do dungeons and WvW.
To re-iterate: There are two types of people this affects.
Dungeon people: People who have to deal with elitist groups who say “LFM MUST HAVE ALL ASCENDED GEAR” Well, find yourself a good guild and a nice niche so you don’t have to deal with those people. Heck I’ll help you and rally a bunch of friends to run dungeons with you.
WvW: Alright, so you want to be ontop of your game in WvW. Well if you are a realy big WvW fan, you’d know it’s more of a matter of zerging and tactics than having certain people who are stronger. But yes, I guess you have room to complain here, but still, stay in a group.
PvE: It does NOTHING. Maybe it’ll save you 1-2 more hits on a single mob, but that’s worth quitting a game for?
So what if they went against what they said. Their intents are the same, they want everyone to have fun and experience the world of Tyria at its fullest, so they are offering new races, new armor, new content everywhere. What is so wrong with that?
Why do you even play this game? What does the no gear grind do for you? Why are so many people anxious and insecure about their armorsets…this shouldn’t be “Not Top Gear Anonymous”. I hope that the people who’ve supported Anet thus far has enough trust in Anet to give you great and fun content. Holding Anet against such a small political issue that does nothing to affect your gameplay is so harsh and kinda childish.
Come on guys, have a little more faith. And quit exaggerating. Maybe go get some therapy about low-gear stress because having non-top tier is not a bad thing and it shouldn’t make you so mad/sad.
I play GW2 because it’s fun, and I enjoy its story and features. End of story. I don’t care what they say, as long as when I log on and find it fun, I’m happy and I’ll give Anet credit for it.
Also, I don’t know why everyone thinks it’s a competition. If you truly valued the beauty of the “no gear grind.” You’d still play, get the armor that looks most awesome and there, you are awesome. If you have spare time, play the dungeon for fun if you get an ascended sure..why not transmute it. But even if you don’t, who cares, you can still play the game as effectively as anyone else. There is no huge difference. And you shouldn’t be so insecure about what anyone has. For goodness sakes, I look at the people around me in Lion’s Arch and can’t tell what type of gear anyone is wearing, they just look cool. And when I party with people, we just play to play.
I wonder if most people who are scared of this change just have had bad experiences with competition in gears in other games or get kicked a lot for not having the “highest tier” gear. I understand if that’s your background story, but it’s not going to be the case with a “slight” increase. I have no idea why competition even exists in PvE. How much do people actually show off in this game? I have barely encountered anyone going around showing off their “crafted” Mjolnir or Legendary, it’s not gonna be the same with ascended. This update just helps, it doesn’t hurt anything.
Edit: Except maybe your sensitive sides. But loosen up, and try it before you make your final decision.
So…
1. Doesn’t affect PvP. Check.
2. Doesn’t affect WvW given it’s zerg and tactics based. Check.
3. Makes PvE easier. Check.
4. Can still do dungeons. Check.
5. Can still do new dungeons and content without the armor. Check.
6. The negligible difference = People aren’t going to expect you to have that type of gear just like people won’t expect you to have a legendary to do anything. Check.
7. People are insecure because others are have the same chance to get the gear just like you and it doesn’t even affect you in any way. Check.
Man, for true Anet fans, you sure ditch Anet pretty fast.
I complain about what’s unfair. Not about what actually in reality is fair, but you are too thoughtless to understand the system. I’m glad you guys get the legendaries, i don’t mind if you do, just have more truthful reasons. I don’t care if it’s “I just want a legendary
” Just don’t be making stupid “justified” reasons. Just tell the truth, “I’m lazy and I don’t want to work for the legendary so I want it to be handed to me.” or “I just want to have something more adventurous in the creation of the legendary.” not “This system is brokenn qq RNG qq I can’t ever get one because there’s no way for me to make money qq i need it in the next day or im gonna quit qq but im gonna quit anyways when i get one qq.” The integrity of people who want the legendaries disappoint me.
Ye, you just keep on judging, cause you really know everything there is to know about me. We gave feedbak and Anet listened. That’s all there is to it. If you want to call that QQ to make yourself feel better (or whatever bizzare reason you have to insult people’s integrity on this forum) then go ahead.
I’m not one of those people who threw crazy amounts of gold into the MF because I did know what the system is and while technically working properly that doesn’t make it a good kittening idea. Hence the feedback. Personally I don’t mind working really hard or really long. When the entire recipes for legendaries were first revealed I didn’t so much as flinch. If Anet felt this was the amount of work that had to be done than that was fine with that. But then the precursor fixes arrived and I started realizing that there is no real basis for how much work I have to do for a legendary. The RNG factor was completely off the charts. And the TP? Well, unsurprisingly the market for the more desired precursors just became a lot more exclusive. Usually a high demand would result in a higher supply because people would realize it’s a great way to make money and this would create at least some sort of balance. But since the supply is so completely random, most people will not want to make money this way.
The RNG for making precursors may technically fair but it IS BAD. RNG is not the kind of fair we want. I want a visible and stable progress on my work and neither the MF neither the changing TP prices offered this. How is this ridiculus reasoning? If the ONLY thing you could read from my post is that “I want things easy” and “I’m not willing to do the work” than I’d say you ARE living in a bubble. Can you give me one good reason why we can’t have a fixed recipe as long as it’s around 350 gold? That’s about the same pricing as the most expensive precursor. Or at least it was untill it rose again and would probably rise even more in time.
You want my truthful reason? This is it, exactly this: “I don’t know if I will always be able to play this game as much as I am right now. GW2 was ideally designed on a principle that you could stop playing it for a month or so then come back without feeling like you’re falling behind. So what I want is for precursor prices to be at least somewhat secure from rising uncontrollably, so that if I stopped playing for a while I can still pick up from where I left off without significant losses from my absence.”
That’s all there is to it. You can believe me or not but that was the only real fear I ever had with legendaries. I just wanted to take my time kitten
Don’t know how to put it in the best words because you deserve it—very great explanation and I believe more people should think the way you do, but I still feel like a majority of people who want it changed are for more petty reasons. But I totally agree with the mindset of hitting a for sure 350g benchmark and having a definite stability in that sense. Sorry about earlier, read wayyy too many legendary posts and just wanted to let loose. But I agree I’ve given no credit to the people who seek this change in the best manner, I apologize. I hope Anet changes it exactly to what you mentioned just not the other suggestions thrown around that people do not realize makes legendaries way too attainable and could imbalance a lot of things.

Yeah, didn’t know we were getting better armor but that makes it more exciting! I don’t know why you’d complain though, exotics are already easy to get and unless you do WvW, it’s not really a competition, it just makes everything we do right now easier (with the exceptions of the new content. But doesn’t it feel better to have a “slight” progresson so now the dungeons or PvE stuff you do are slightly easier than before. Idk, it just feels nice to know you can do more dmg.
Prob not, but hopefully we wont see trails everywhere in Lion’s Arch in the next week. Then if that’s the case, every new legendary I see is just another whiner from the forums :\
Please tell me more about how this game is supposed to be played. I’m sure you know best despite the dev post on the top of this thread telling us that changes are already on their way. Clearly something was broken. Obviously something about the legendaries can be made better. The popular legendaries were made too unreachable because of the precursors and now this is being adressed. Not everything in an mmo is perfect from day one. We gave feedback and they listened. That’s how it works, that’s how progress is made and a better game is developed.
But you can live in your bubble if you want. You can think our collective whining twisted their arm, because they just can’t take criticism or they’re afraid they’ll lose too many players over a feature that the majority of players probably doesn’t even care about. God forbid the idea that the popular legendaries like Twilight actually became far more problematic to obtain than their original intention.
Never complain about anything and you’ll walk through your entire life being treated unfairly, no one will appreciate you more for it and you’ll never make progress of any kind.
See that’s the thing, I am not here to tell anyone how to play it. By all means, QQ all you want and I say it that way because that’s the truth. I just wish you guys would take a moment and think about how ridiculous your reasonings are. That’s it, using a brain of some sort or whatnot. Just because a dev fixes something does not always mean it’s broken—sometimes it’s because they care about a particular population of people. And I admire that because I for one cannot appreciate the way certain groups of people are handling the design of the legendaries.
I’m pretty sure I do not live in a bubble given that I come on these forums often and come across various legendary debate posts on various threads. But good job you guys, they are listening.
And complaining is for the unworthy in most parts. The only time you can declare something as unfair is if you played it the way it was supposed to be and never got it. If I were to put the guaranteed recipe for the sunrise, and got a random exotic—that’s unfair. If I bought the precursor on the TP and it gave me the wrong item—that’s unfair. If I got the precursor and it didn’t count towards the legendary even though it worked for some other people—that’s unfair. BUT if I did stupid things to get the precursor like gamble more than its cost on the TP in the Mystic Forge, that’s fair because you knew what you were getting yourself into. 1million people playing and trying the mystic forge once in their gw2 life have better chances at yeilding a precursor, those who are generous put it on the TP.
John Smith/or whoever said that they’ll look at the prices is because they want the precursors to be affordable for those who can work hard to afford them. It’s because of the fact that a precursor can be put on the TP is for a guranteed supply for the unlucky. But the devs know how much a precursor should be worth. And thus the comments they made about watching prices.
I complain about what’s unfair. Not about what actually in reality is fair, but you are too thoughtless to understand the system. I’m glad you guys get the legendaries, i don’t mind if you do, just have more truthful reasons. I don’t care if it’s “I just want a legendary” Just don’t be making stupid “justified” reasons. Liquid Rhino.7192 for president, great f’ing post to all the whiners and complainers.
This. No offense, but more people need to earn their rewards not ask for it to be easier. I’m not gonna go to college pay tuition and tell the university that I’m an average student who doesn’t spend his time in classes all the time to be on the dean’s list because I “bought” my education so I must be rewarded with everything it has to offer. Studying sucks, hw sucks, exams/papers suck, but we have to do it to get that recognition. And yes, sometimes it’s luck because you could always get that one professor that gives you Cs, Ds, and Fs, for throwing whatever valuable effort you put into your assignments.
Well, I for one blame the Mad King for destroying my lion in Lion’s Arch. I’ll never get that back ;(
1. GS
2. Berserker if you want more damage output, Knight if you want to go more balanced type.
3. Solider is good for condition removal, but if you think you have enough, go for 2xMonk 2xWater 2×...something else for boon duration lol, or go Lyssa because it makes our Renewed Focus amazing.
4. Can’t see the traits because I’m on an old computer but 0/0/30/0/5 is the skeleton to a good guardian. For two-handed weapons (and shouts) do 0/0/30/20/5 and then depending on your utlities, you should use the rest of your sp where you see best fit.
0/0/30/0/5 is what you need, trait whereever else you see fit.
0/0/30/20/5 is more focused on 2-handed weapons especially if you are a fan of the Greatsword.
Then all zerk gear.
Outcome:
13-14k hp.
Great healing with Alruistic Healing (Valor 30)
Decent toughness, and above average damage output due to close to 50% crit chance and high crit damage.
Side notes: Utilities I use are retreat for aegis/speed, SOY for stun break and extra boons/speed, JI for mobility and stun break. That usually covers being stunned.
Condition removers are important, so I’d go either for a soldier rune set, signet of resolve, use whirl light combo, go 30 in honor for the shout cond removal or 20 in virtues for virtue of resolve cond removal.
And renewed focus as elite. I personally use rune of lyssa to make my elite more awesome.
Anyways, my $0.02. It does really good damage, you can tank for pretty much all scenarios unless focused down by 3-4 1 shotters. You can condition remove well and break stuns whenever you get knocked down. And you are invulnerable for 3 seconds with all boons (if you use rune of lyssa).
PM me if you need a guild in Sanctum of Rall : ). It’s pretty small but I have nothing else to do except go on ventures and help guildies XD
I believe transmutation and an alt can fix your problems.
If you are doing the plinx route, you shouldn’t have a problem farming at all. A lot of people are there who kill trash mobs and for the event mobs, as long as you know where they’ll spawn, just start an AoE right before they load you’ll get credit for it. I get ksed quite a bit by eles dropping meteor shower.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t make it too easy. I like the extreme challenge.
Grinding isn’t a challenge.
You should’ve picked up a different game if you didn’t think grinding was anywhere present in this game. Fighters maybe? Starcraft 2? League? Seriously, people who want an end-game in an MMO to be a challenge just wants it their way and buy the game before actually reading it beforehand. Like, I’m going to play Halo 4 and QQ because it’s not like Call of Duty and spend all my time complaining so they’ll release a new game like CoD 4. I really wish now gw2 didn’t update content because people abuse their generosity thus far. MMOs are supposed to have a grind. I also wouldn’t be too surprised to see the dungeon forums skyrocket in complaints if precursors required the dungeon master achievement now or tokens in general. QQ everywhere.
And let’s face it, for you guys there that want a “challenge” for the legendary, you don’t really care about the challenge part, you just want to skin; because by all means you CAN STILL CHALLENGE YOURSELF without getting a legendary. It shouldn’t be a byproduct of it. I doubt 90% of the people who get the precursor or legendary now are gonna be like “I conquered balh blah blah! Hear me roar!” Nah. You are just gonna wear it all the time and complain about how hard other parts of the game are and that they NEED more content asap cause its getting boring fast.
(edited by ArcTheFallen.7682)
1. They said they’ll look into the prices. Nothing said it’ll be entirely shifted to skill-based.
2. I wish I knew that complaining in forums could change a game. All the time people have committed to posts in these complain-rums could have actually spent time working towards their precursor.
3. Make the precursors cost 1000 lodestones for these new peeps. Hey, at least you have better chances.
Yo, I love dungeons, seriously I do, but Arah path 4 is one of the hardest dungeons of all time. Lup was a joke compared to Dwayna. I’d rather dodge 1-2 shots than hack away at a boss that petrifies and heals to a point where it’s as if she was never touched…so think again if you guys think AC or anything else is even remotely hard.
I want to get a whole army of guardians to use sanctuaries to block people or trap them in a circle of sanctuaries. That is my end-game.
Yeah, need more breathing space.
Hey, I just met you
and this is crazy,
but I cant keep up,
so kite me maybe.
There are no lodestones required to get the best gear in the game though. It’s all personal preference.
True, getting Mjolnir for me is a personal preference, but when an exotic costs more than a legendary O_o. Something isn’t right there.
Sanctum of Rall here, also a small guild but with good synergy. We do not use any type of voice chat, but are on frequently doing whatever to have fun!
Arkania Leader
~Sky Avalon.
Anyone who wants a nice guild to chill with, venture, maybe do some dungeons with, or just talk about life PM me! : ) Best wishes.
~Sky Avalon.
Full servers are better (in the US at least) to be approached during the morning. Gamers like to game through the night but cannot wake up worth anything in most cases, plus people have work.
Creating a character does not penalize you for the world transfer week long wait period.
Arkania in Sanctum of Rall here~ I’d be willing to travel around and do stupid or meaningful stuff together! Our guild is super small haha so we know each on a very personal basis. Unfortunately we keep it anonymous and do not do ts, mumble, or raidcall, but imo text chat works well for anything we do.
I believe gw2 is a great game, but it spread itself too thin. For those who like having various things to do, it’s a great and wonderful game. For those focused on certain aspects of the game, you hit a dead-end really quick and it’s very dissapointing. I can see both sides.
On a different note about MMOs, the thing that keeps me going back to MMOs is the community and the friends I make. You don’t know how happy I am sometimes if I have a bad day and see someone online that I can go venture with or if I could just immerse myself with the people around me and make new friends.
This MMO lacks good communication mechanics/features in the game. The only way to actually make friends is to
1) Dungeon with them and have a good fun run.
2) Run Plinx with them over and over again and say “Oh hey, it’s you again.”
3) Friends of friends when you party with each other…for dungeons, and farming so 1) and 2) again
4) Guildmates. You are either invited into a guild, meet members of a guild that seem nice and join them, or start your own guild and invite members and you all become great friends. However did I forget that you can’t talk to friends from other guilds if you aren’t repping them? And even then, you would only work together if you wanted to dungeon, or farm…plinx or said very few good farming places.
5) You meet a friend through /map chat
6) You run into someone while venturing
Out of all of those options, the most viable way to make friends it through dungeoning or joining a guild. For dungeons, we lack a good LFG system, so you end up having to party with people you dont agree with sometimes. For guilds, there’s not much of a benefit being in a guild other than buffs, which you can freeload from any big guild you rep. And that’s socializing through the wrong means.
We have the Mass, and there are Multiplayer options, and we do have to be Online. But by all means, we just all bought one game to co-op with some real-life friends bundled up with lots of people in one huge instance. By all means, we could have just bought the game separately and have npcs doing the dynamic events with us, dungeon with us, etc. Because gw2 doesn’t provide a great design for networking.
