The LS reminds me of D3 a lot in how it gets shoved in your face and generally isn’t good. At least give us the ability to turn off the quest reminder.
The true answer is: OCD.
Here’s a question.
Excuse me for generalization, but, Chinese players are known for liking “hardcore”/strategic games.
How will arena net keep their interest?
I’m afraid LS wont work.
But their current philosophy of adding new currencies all the time and making getting them a huge grind suits Asian players perfectly. If anything, Anet can go all-out with grind for them.
^^^^
Most of the stuff they added after launch was lacklustre and not exactly something to be super proud of. The SAB was the only exception and that was temporary.
So tired of reading all the kittening about.. how this sucks.. or I want this… Or do this.. Or do that…. Can’t you people appreciate the fact that your playing the best MMO out there?
I can understand the fact that you want them to excel….
But really?
Can you people say thanks? Is it that flippin hard?
Just Sayin…..
That is all….
I was wondering: Do you clap when the plane you’re on lands successfully?
All I can think is “Holy crap, they would just arrest EVE. Not a couple of players in EVE, I mean they would just arrest the entire playerbase if that was the case.” =D
They can’t arrest you for GETTING scammed. So the 99% of gullible highsec fools would be safe.
Anet has a history of screwing us over so don’t hold your breath. They’ll probably conclude that Grenades and Static Rifle builds are too good and nerf them accordingly. Better prepare a new build.
Scamming is an important part of the Online Experience™ and it teaches people to not be too trusting. All in all it’s a win-win situation for everyone.
Excellent points, OP. Well done.
^^^^
Thankfully nobody except ANet cares about sPvP.
The consensus on the Elementalist forums is that Arenanet deliberately wants them to be outclassed by everything.
Rangers and engies would like a word with you.
Yep. Currently I’d say Rangers got it the worst. Engineers at least got SOME fixes last patch.
They need to contain something VALUABLE , 1 per CHARACTER , NOT BOUND.
50 free Black Lion chests per character.*
*Keys not included.
That boss fight is a decent indicator what the rest of your endgame will be like.
GW2 has this awful anime-esque ever-so-slightly-fruit-cake-y look for all remotely human female models. At times it really annoys me to be quite honest but I knew what I was getting into well before beta so eeeehhh…
A few rough looking faces wouldn’t hurt at all. Not for human males, not for Norn women and not even for Asura females.
1. Class Balance
2. Long-term PvE Content
3. People who can’t count
ITT we are angry about virtual instruments.
You should be glad you don’t live close to someone who practices music in real life. What would you do then? kitten at the landlord endlessly?
Guild Wars 2, so far, is the only MMO that actually fits my play style.
No offense but I suspect this might be because you’re too unfocused to get one single thing done. Which is in itself not a bad habit, but it does stretch out the content in GW2 “unnaturally”. I promise you, a few days after you manage to get a Legendary or whatever other goal you set yourself you’d be bored.
not to be a groupie :P
but Vayne does have a legendary
Okay, I didn’t know that. Still, if your goal is to not have a goal, of course there’s enjoyment to be had. Most people just try to achieve things methodically.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how awful will those look an a charr?

Okay, you’re pretty well of with bombs and such. I for one am tired of re-working my entire build and probably stat distribution every patch.
At least we’re not Rangers, kitten .
But even if I had a warrior as my main, I’d still not play much because I’m tired of daily grinds. There’s so little progress to be had I might as well not play at all, especially since I can return to the game whenever I want anyway. Sadly I’ve not encountered anything that holds my attention for more than a few weeks at a time.
I quit because my first, and main, character is an engineer.
Need I say more?
That’s interesting. My first character, the first character I leveled to 80 was also an engineer. I still do quite well with him.
I like him a whole lot more than I like my 80th level warrior.
I like my engineer too, that’s why I can’t really bring myself to level a worthwhile class. I stuck with it long enough and kept on top of what’s good (read: not FUBAR) but every single patch so far has been an uphill struggle against the flailings of the balance team. Remember when Flamethrower was pretty good? Remember Grenades?

Just now finished world completion. Got the star and the achievement but no chest.
At least they’re not reheating tired old Reddit/9gag memes. Yet.
1) The international atmosphere (As opposed to the literal ghettos that are language-specific servers)
2) Good commanders who create an atmosphere of organization as opposed to the random scrubs with blue icons and a Napoleon complex
3) The WvW boni are negligible
So there. The current WvW system is just a meaningless back-and-forth zergfest. If Anet wants to include PvE people into this they’ll need something like a Darkness Falls equivalent.
Make guesting only possible on servers where you have a friend that is currently online. That would cut down on event guests.
Just over 1,200 games on my engi so i know a lot about them.
Is the engineer dead? No
Is it still the weakest class? Yes
A lot of keyboard work/effort for the smallest gains of all the classes.
Absolutely. Nobody claimed the class is “dead”, it’s just not very good and frankly never was. The fact that ANet likes to give with one hand and take with the other (FT Buff/Food nerf) doesn’t help.
If they would give us access to the entire pool of options instead of mixing it up every day, nobody would complain. Yes, most people would take what they find to be easiest each day but would it really matter? They’ll finish their stuff one way or another.
The current system is just a constant stream of annoyment.
The stories here are still better than some of the oh-so-amazing stories in SWTOR.
You think some of the stuff here is dry? Go play a Consular, I dare you. Go ahead, it’s free anyway.
Arenanet doesn’t consciously design “farming spots” because they don’t want you farming in “spots” they want you farming via “adventuring” as in, going out, running around, looking for different events to do, and doing them because they’re fun, or because they’re next to that resource node, or because you hit them on the way to a merchant.
Which would be perfectly fine and acceptable to people if it wasn’t for the fact that Orr as an endgame zone is still awful, even with the changes.
Players always try to find the path of least resistance to a given problem. Except, in this case, it felt more like the least tedious path.
“Diversity” doesn’t cut it when other classes are almost equally diverse. Plus, in their design statement the devs said Eles are actually the kings of versatility. Guess which classes get “taxed” the most for being oh so versatile?
It’s not even helping casual gamers all that much. It gives them an incentive to log in for 30 minutes each day and then log off again because the daily is all the meaningful/doable progress they will get for that day after a certain point.
Agree, i can understand that culling is in WvW with all the 100 v 100 fights and the insane data transfer the server has to do.
DAoC managed huge fights without culling, so I’m at a loss why the data transfer should be so much worse in GW2.
Good patch!
They tried to make most kits a bit more viable and fixed some really needed bugs like the flamethrower air blast miss. FT is pretty darn awesome now.
Kit refinement change is pretty weird if its really as confuse as mentioned in the other thread – need to test moar.
See, this is the irresponsible crap FT advocates do on these forums. Saying something is “awesome” without a reference is just irresponsible.
The FT is “awesome” compared to its pre patch version (duh!).
The FT is still crap compared to other engg options with the same role. The devs basically spent time developing a crappy kit to a new level of crappy.
I’m going to assume you’re speaking strictly for PvE, FT kit has been and continues to be a very viable sPvP kit.
So because a mechanic is useable in PvP that means it shouldn’t get any love for PvE purposes?
By the way I don’t get why they didn’t split skills for PvE/PvP in the first place.
Vit/Cond also seems a bit more readily available on the market and thus cheaper.
Well I sure can’t buy either because I’m fantasy poor.
By the way, my friend was laughing. Hard. He’s probably never coming back. What I fear the most is those that do leave for awhile, come back and see the grind ahead of them, they’ll quit before getting started.
I’m a returning player and yea, I completely understand your friend not wanting to come back. I didn’t really look into what was currently going on and what people “need” to do to get better stuff but it’s nothing if not disheartening to find out.
Even starting a second character feels like a waste because after the slog to 80 you’re just forced to re-do everything again for weeks on end.
Semi-afk farming 2 faceroll easy events should not be as rewarding as it was. Good change. Time to get your welfare checks somewhere else.
Yet speedrunning dungeons is still a thing. Either take away all means to grind or let the players be for a while.
Currency exchanges is a thing other MMOs did so we will likely never see them in our hip and fresh Guild Wars 2.
But seriously, having a way of getting rid of unwanted currencies would be great. Hell, they can also work as a currency sink if the exchange rate is “bad” enough. People would still use it.
The question isn’t whether or not you can apply burns with FT reliably, it’s why you should use the FT in the first place when other weapons offer better damage and utility.
Hey, how are they supposed to document their fixes before knowing what will be broken after the patch?
At least they didn’t touch CoF path 1. Instead of giving us more things to do, they’ve just narrowed our choices some more. Dailies + CoF path 1 gold runs will net you the items you want fastest. Thank you anet.
CoF has almost always been the go-to path of any dungeon for farming since launch and they can’t be arsed to fix that for some reason but they sure do have the time to make everything else worse.
What do I take from this as a player? They want us to do CoF all day every day.
GW2 WikiLife stealing is an action which drains a fixed amount of health from a target and adds it to the attacker’s health. It should not be confused with stealing life force.
[…]
Deals additional, fixed damage equal to the amount of health stolen, independent from the damage of the attack that triggers it. Damage inflicted will not be shown as a floating number or in combat logs, and is not affected by damage boosts or armor.

Just to be clear, Omnomberry Ghost/Pie wasn’t only regenerating you of 330 Health but also doing 330 damages to the opponent making a gap of 660 Health between you and him.
Any proofs of this?
Isn’t that how life steal works?
Yes. The life has to come from somewhere, after all.
Coulda just removed the stealing part but…
Since WoW did it first we’ll never see AOE-immune pets here, so… vOv
Actually, WoW solved the pet-getting-killed problem by making them immune to AOE, at least against NPCs. That would go a long way to help the class here too, I think.
Oh I wasn’t responding to the tone of your post. Just the whole “research” paragraph made me think of what I posted. It feels like we’re working against the devs here and that is just awful.
I have an 80 Engineer as my main, an 80 Ranger as an alt, and an 80 Necromancer as an alt.
Wow. I mean, seriously, wow. That takes dedication. I’m seriously awed and also incredibly sorry for you.
I agree that the forum in general needs more reasonableness. Unfortunately, the patch notes were undeniably inaccurate again—most of the frustration is over stuff that wasn’t actually nerfed, just sounds like it was in the patch notes.
On the other hand, engineers should do research to be effective. It’s kind of a nice immersion experience, actually. Here I am, late at night, doing research so that I can be effective tomorrow…the life of an engineer.
The meta-game of our class shouldn’t be “How do I best protect myself from ArenaNet and their patches?” however. I researched a nice build. It worked. I liked it. Then this patch hit and now I gotta find workarounds AGAIN.
I suppose the point is made. The whole idea of “Single player games offer less than MMOs!” stems from the haydays of Everquest and UO, where they actually were the games you could play the longest.
…quitting a game you don’t pay for monthly that has given you 10x any content that a single player game can offer is laughable.
That statement is laughable. 10x more content than any SP game can offer? Lulz, not only is it not true, but why are you comparing SP games to GW2…? GW2 cannot be played offline AFAIK.
I’m comparing it to a SP game because you don’t pay for it monthly, unlike most MMO’s. Name one SP game that can even come close. You can’t do it. Try again.
