I’d put Troll Unugent, Healing Spring and Signet of restoration ahead of Shelter due to their effectiveness and shorter cds.
As much as I agree it was a significant nerf to warriors, I think it allows them to think outside the box now and not just spec into dps machines. Maybe this will give them some flavor to utilize banners and support a little more through warhorns(turning condi’s into boons). I do believe these are underutilized and should be taken into account.
I’m still not sure the direction in which anet is trying to take these balance changes. It’s almost as if you have to expect the unexpected.
I understand that, but what i’m saying is the differences between light and heavy armor at their base provide really no benefit towards the heavy professions.
2k armor doesn’t equal light nor does 3k equal heavy. Look at the base armor stats for each class. Light is 1836 with heavy being 2127. Again, there’s no real difference in damage taken.
I’m just going to put this out there, the difference between light and heavy armor is about 5% damage reduction to standard attacks(non-condition). So when someone says you have an advantage because of your armor, you can pretty much call it bs.
I also wish to thank Xeph for putting in the time to assist those looking for a team as well as trying to improve the Spvp situation. Since most here are looking for a team(myself included) i’m going to put together a team.
<Team looking for a player(es)>
Team name: Will be determined by members
Region:NA(willing to accept EU members)
Amount of members: 1
Practice Times: Again, this will be up to the members. My current schedule affords me 5 days off a week while the other 2 have me working a full 24 hours.
Class(es) you are looking for:Any and all
Other (Anything else that you would like to add): This isn’t to brag or to put myself above anyone else but I consider myself a top player in terms of the Guardian profession. I have over 1400 hours with this profession alone with many tournaments played. I’d like to find players who are skilled mechanically and are willing to help each other regardless of the task to improve the team as a whole.
It would be beneficial for the members to have some sort of VOIP whether it be skype, TS or mumble. English is the preferred language but if we can work together with some barriers, then all is well.
I agree the Guardian is more suited for melee but that doesn’t take away from the fact that if another class can bunker just as well(if not more) when utilizing a ranged weapon, we have a problem.
Nigh invincible? I’ve seen Bunker engineers, Rangers and Elementalists last longer without sacrificing mobility and still put pressure on their attackers. A bunker guardian is absolutely no threat to the opposing team in terms of pressure.
the tin foil armor should hold a litle more due small health pool(dont talk about boons becouse easilly removed and health regen is useless)
Also, the boon duration and upkeep of a guardian is relatively small when compared to an elementalist or condition engineer.
The damage reduction between a light and heavy armored class is about 5%. The difference here is almost unnoticeable. So when light armored classes talk about the advantages of having the “extra” armor, it’s really just bull crap.
From an spvp perspective, the Guardian’s skills are too focused on point control. What do you guys think will happen once they introduce more types of pvp? As of right now for the conquest setting, the guardian does well. I just think if they tied some of the skills to have more use in mobility, the class would do well in other areas instead of just sitting on a point.
Usually if it’s a true pug vs. pug, then strategy is thrown out the window but I see what you’re saying.
I just have a simple proposal of increasing the amount of glory and rank points earned on the 3-map tournament to 600 instead of the current 400. It makes a little more sense so that the rewards are distributed evenly. Each round should be worth 200 and work from there. Currently it’s more productive to run 1-round tournaments for half the reward and 1/3 of the time compared to the 3-round. What do you guys think?
I’d have to agree with our OP, this is going to take quite a long time for them to figure out proper balance within GW2. There are so many mechanics when compared to your standard mmo that it might just take years to get relatively close. From the numerous skills to the different ways each profession plays,(initiative specifically) there are so many factors to consider. We may not approve of how they balance but I truly believe there’s a method to their madness.
In my opinion, this game has the best combat mechanics and fluidity of any other game released within its genre. Perfecting each professions usefulness will take time and when we get close, it’ll be a glorious day for all of us.
I just started playing solo and it is nice to just go in there and(hopefully) have fun without the constraints of a strategy. I mean you’ll figure one out eventually but in the end, it’s a lot more enjoyable.
Actually empower is only 2 1/2 second cast and doesn’t root you afterwards.
Line of warding is still only a 1 second cast but mobile
And the extra heal isn’t great but a nice addition.
If Zealous blade was actually worth it, GS would be far more appealing to the masses.
I mostly just Spvp and I use scepter/torch and staff. Going melee usually spells death for you unless you have some sort of escape mechanism.
Ingame name: Arken Elric
Main Class / Potential Classes (Incase team requires): Guardian, can also play ranger.
Region:NA, EST time zone
Practice Times: 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
Experience: Been playing since launch, know the guardian inside and out.
Other (Anything else that you would like to add): Just looking to find a solid team.
Love the sarcasm, let me know if you need an extra
I’ve been looking for a team for a while And it seems like there’s fewer and fewer teams to tryout for.
Indeed, the heal isn’t even that great. This is especially true if you get feared and then you’re screwed. I think 20 seconds is fair.
I think it’s decent just the CD is a little long for my taste when compared to other professions healing skills.
Conditions are applied faster than removed. I see no reason why we can’t have another, not everyone is going to equip/trait all of those anyway.
Edit: All but one of those removes only 1 upon activation(passive or not), it won’t help you when you’re getting smashed by 10. Sure you’ll remove them with contemplation but the rate at which they reapply pretty much speaks for itself.
Torch is nice just wish cleansing flame actually removed condi’s from the user as well. That one issue to me is why I don’t use it as much.
Making smite an actual aoe skill would be nice. Turn it into a symbol and that’ll solve most problems and please many people.
Edit: Still despise the concept behind symbols but it is what it is.

But the existance of the skin preclude the weapon type scythe from being added. They won’t introduce something that’s visually similar but functionally different. It’d be confusing for the masses.
It’s only one skin, you could easily make up many more with a new weapon. Not many people even have it.
There are at least 2 confirmed. More than enough to set precedence. You’ll probably have more luck asking for a scythe like skin for hammer or gs. Melee weapons in gw2 cleave by default. Unless you can make a very strong case for a self strip boon mechanic to be made viable (or something more novel) there is nothing scythes can bring to the table.
I understand but i’m just speaking for new weapons in general. More are going to be released and I would love to have one.

Scythes are already in game and guardians can use it.
If only….8(
Edit: Not that bullcrap Staff skin.
Or give us more melee options(scythe) if we’re going to stay melee-oriented. =)
I used to be a fan of the hammer only finding it’s use on Khylo. I find my favorite to be the staff overall.
Oh I must have misunderstood you, just me alone looking for a team.
yo this guy is solid. arken has been good on his guard since release. if you need a guard give him a shot he won’t disappoint.
Thank you, that means a lot. I’m trying but it’s been difficult lately when all the teams have their respective players.
Still looking for a team. I’m currently playing as a roam dps/support but can switch to bunker if need be.
Forget Longbow, Guardians need Scythes. We’re essentially Dervishes so it makes sense all the same.
Fair enough Amins, I see your point and I respect that. I’ve played mostly(if not all) Spvp so from my perspective where most consecrations aren’t even considered in a Guardian build.
I agree, WoF is funny and if you’re not paying attention, it’ll destroy you(enemy ranged).
Using three utilities to pull of the tomes is a joke. If you can’t see that then you’re blind.
All I’m saying is that I find Consecrations to provide a small benefit with too long of a cool down and promotes static gameplay. Simple as that.
@ Vitu
Blocking projectiles was never the issue I think but rather the AoE placed beneath you making it utterly useless.
(edited by Arken.3725)
How exactly are Consecrations excellent for organized group play? Sanctuary doesn’t last long enough, bubble is too small and leaves you vulnerable to AoE, Purging Flames does terrible damage while only removing one condition per tick(conditions easily reapllied), Wall of Reflection is only good in PvE where the AI doesn’t know any better but against any decent player, it’s a joke. Hallowed ground granting stability the size of a node which, once again, promotes static gameplay and leaves you vulnerable to other AoE of similar size.
@ Rfreak.6591
Sanctuary only lasts 8 seconds, not 12 when traited and doesn’t reflect dmg. The bubble is also too small because I can hit targets within the bubble without being knocked back. I never really utilize any signet due to the lack of usefulness when compared to shouts. Warriors gain stability for 10 seconds if utilized, this isn’t short by any means. Nearly all classes have some form of stability(barring thiefs and necromancers).
I just find consecrations to be a terrible idea, it promotes static game play, has no real use when compared to other large radius AoE. If you look at the spreadsheet of current healing abilities you would notice Rangers have the best and Guardians/Necros have the worst in my opinion. Not to mention the myriad of dodging capabilities the ranger has.
When a profession is required to stand in one place to stay alive, there’s a problem.
(edited by Arken.3725)
I just can’t agree with your argument, Rfreak. There are multiple builds yes but only two that provide the best results. Immobilization via hammer is unreliable at best, scepter giving the only real results. Only one blowback which is easily avoidable.(mesmers GS is FAR superior) One knockback via shield on a long cd and another on the SW hammer which just got nerfed.
Absolutely I would pay for a subscription. This is, by far the best mmo ever to be released hands down.
I guess having the best healing skill along with near limitless evasion doesn’t count huh? Awesome.
I was bored and thought this would be fitting.
Hey guys, just trying out 3D vision and i’m having an issue. I’m seeing double characters when I turn it on. Not sure if there’s a recommended settings for 3D vision. Does anyone know?
Look, there are plenty of problems with every profession. I just feel the Guardian is lacking in most categories. Guardian’s are forced to run that one spec because it’s the only viable one keeping us from taking a dirt nap. When I first saw the new Grandmaster Zeal trait Zealous Blade, I was excited. Then I realized it never scaled with Healing Power and left me vulnerable. Other issues have arisen such as the harsh nerfing of core skills without replacements or reasoning.
I mostly play spvp so here’s my opinion currently:
Survival: 8/10 (You’re required to stand in symbols to survive, elementalists do it better)
Support: 7/10 (Short boon duration but still party-wide)
Damage: 5/10 (Guardians are the only class that can’t burst down a target quickly)
Control: 3/10 (Wards are bugged, no on-demand cripple or chill with limited immobilization)
Ranged combat: 2/10 (need I elaborate on this?)
Melee Combat 7/10 (symbols can be a big help but are easily avoidable and must be traited to be of actual use)
Effective Build Variety: 2/10 (AH or MF)
Utility skills: 4/10( Consecrations have too long of a cd and no one stands in them, spirit weapons are terrible, meditations provide no real benefit since conditions can be reapplied faster than you can remove, signets aren’t very good especially Signet of mercy, shouts are the only reasonable choice)
Elite Skills: 2/10 (When compared to the rest, Guardians are severely lacking. Tomes are no longer useful due to long cast times and no stability, RF is the only choice)
Traits: 5/10 (Valor has the best traits available, Honor is good but having to spend 3 major traits just to make symbols viable doesn’t make much sense)
They’ve already dumbed it down quite a bit as it is. Retaliation is lazy, the player using it is utilizing no skill at all. I just say replace it with something else, maybe swiftness? We already lack a tremendous amount of mobility as it is.
I find retaliation a lazy mans boon; it think it needs to be removed.
