I’d replace blind exposure with radiant fire since you’re using a torch. Guardians don’t stack vulnerability very well to begin with.
Hey guys, i’m looking for a serious team for tournaments. I usually play support/damage with an emphasis on team play. My rank is 37(I don’t think this matters) and I have over 600 hours on my Guardian. I’m more than willing to learn and take whatever criticism that helps the team overall. If you have any questions, let me know. My contact name is in my signature, thank you.
Just had the time of my life! Was able to find a thief by using the sound waves from my superior aria thus enabling me to pinpoint their location. How effective!
Here’s how I handle any class who utilizes heavy CC:
My weapon skills are comprised of the GS and Staff. Two runes of water, two of monk and two of strength for maximum boon duration. 0/5/30/30/5 for my traits, Sigils of battle and endurance spread across each weapon. This setup will not only keep them from smacking me around but will help me use their conditions against them. Engies tend to have close range stuns so utilizing your staff at range is key since the damage from empower actually makes this weapon very viable. A quick eye and decent reflexes always helps but this build will almost always ensure victory.
AH Guardian trying to figure out how to utilize the enemies boons to heal my team, anyone figure this out yet?
Out of curiosity, am I the only one that really likes Renewed Focus then?
Of course it could be that I paired it with Superior Runes of Lyssa for a short CD supercharged elite skill.
For those that are wondering,
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_Lyssaalready tryed on my thief with traited basilisk venom xD
its funny lol SYS on 36 sec cd
Better than SyS, you don’t get stability which is worth more than half of the other boons.
Also, about shelter and shield block. Lets say you block 4k worth of damage within those two seconds and receive about a 5k heal at best. Shield block would then have the potential to block about 9k on the same cooldown and still have a heal left over.
I’ve used it in spvp and it hasn’t helped me when compared to SoR. It can save you since you can’t be interrupted but other than that…
I can give a list and some decent reasoning to each. Debate please.
Shelter: Again, not terrible but the 2 second block doesn’t make up for healing almost half as much as SoR on a similar CD when traited.
I’m fairly certain that when you combine shelter with might of the protector and you have altruistic healing you get healed for each stack of might you gain. So when you are fighting multiple enemies with that setup, it makes shelter the superior choice out of all the other heals.
It does but I think only two seconds of block won’t really do much especially when compared to the warriors shield block for 5 seconds.
If we’re going into traits here’s a nice list.
Zealot’s Speed: Doesn’t provide the proper boon and the symbol dropped doesn’t help with your current almost dead state.
Any trait that magnifies your downed state needs to be removed.
Healers’ Retribution for a 3 second retaliation
Shimmering defense sort of goes hand-in-hand with Zealots speed; not very useful for when it’s deployed.
Inner fire: I almost never find myself on fire so I think it should be changed to affect all conditions but instead of fury, give might.
Searing flame along with Glacial heart is on too long of a cd to be viable.
I can give a list and some decent reasoning to each. Debate please.
Zealot’s Defense: Not terrible but it’s too easy to avoid and leaves you open to melee attacks.
Shelter: Again, not terrible but the 2 second block doesn’t make up for healing almost half as much as SoR on a similar CD when traited.
Sanctuary: Needs to be adjusted to prevent AoE damage and health to be slightly boosted. Doesn’t feel like a sanctuary to be honest.
Merciful intervention: See above.
Save yourselves: I think the 5 seconds is fine when you’re solo but should be adjusted to 10 if you strip conditions from your teammates.
Signet of Mercy: On too long of a cast time and cd to be useful.
I see nothing wrong with asking for an ability/skill that every other profession possesses. As of right now it’s near-impossible to keep your target within a symbol for more than maybe a second so why not add a cripple to them?
30 in honor, Pure of voice along with purity and signet. You should be fine but if you’re really getting hit hard, take the runes of the soldier. That’s 8 condition removals without the use of meditations.
The cd’s on a lot of cripples are faster than our condition removals.(unless you have a ton of methods specced)
I tend to use two 2h weapons since the 2h weapon mastery works wonders.
The Guardian has almost zero escape mechanisms. You can’t teleport away from someone, the only thing you have is leap of faith in your opponents opposite direction. That’s it.
Edit: As a Guardian, once you’re committed to a fight, you’re not going away unless you win or die.
I stopped putting points into zeal, even if fiery wrath is decent. I’ve found 30 in Valor to be a must regardless of build. Depending on who or what i’m fighting, i’d also put 30 in honor for Pure of Voice( helps against the condition thieves) with 5 in both radiance and virtues.
No one is arguing the Guardians survivability. Just if we want to spec offensively, it’s very difficult to keep your target close.
I understand what you’re saying and I get it. But you don’t find it strange that one class out of seven lacks conditions that all others have access to? It’s not hard to keep up with someone when you’re using the right weapons/skills.
I just said Guardians aren’t terrible, please read my friend. All I said, once again, was that there’s a few things that should be adjusted. I have almost 600 hours on my Guardian so I don’t need a lesson on what Guardians can do but rather have a simple discussion on what Guardians can use.
Besides you guys going at it, Skudder makes a point. He’s provided facts about our weapons based on CD and use when compared to other classes. I’m not saying the Guardian is terrible just it lacks the necessities every other profession possesses.
You do realize that the Elementalist is a better bunker class than the Guardian and also has quite a bit of access to cripples. Where’s the balance there?
SkuDDer I think it’s pointless to argue here. When one profession doesn’t possess what the others have it’s a little awkward.(in this case cripples and stuns) You can’t justify why the six other classes can have it and one does not. I completely agree and have stated in other threads abilities the Guardian lacks where other classes have easy access to.
I just tested it and the Aegis wouldn’t reset every time I hit half health and healed back up. Maybe there’s an internal cd?
That would be amazing. Boost your healing power and see aegis apply continuously would be pretty hilarious but effective.
It really is a different beast but I think provides the best scenario of truly testing your weapons capabilities.
Quote Ynna:
Most may find this to be somewhat ok but i’d rather it be turned into regeneration instead of a single heal so you can benefit from the first loss of Aegis.
You can but the only problem is will your group utilize the short duration protection over a much longer duration(and more powerful) might buff? I’ve been heavily testing it in spvp and for the life of me unless I have them in zealots embrace or RoW, cannot finish the third swing.
Although the Golem testing provides valuable information on a weapons potential use, the fact that this game relies so heavily on movement almost makes the argument moot. It’s very difficult to hit someone with the third swing and even if you can, they symbol surely won’t. The only issue with the hammer is every skill on the bar has an easily recognizable and avoidable telegraph and slow cast time.
When i’m in a group I find EM to be extremely useful due to 5 ticks of at least 71 almost constantly. When i’m alone, it’s a completely different story. I’d rather use 2h mastery since the benefit is near zero.
I started utilizing the staff as part of my Altruistic healing setup and I can honestly say that it has the healing potential that will match if not exceed the the hammer.(pending how many allies around you)
The symbol is self explanatory which offers a decent tick in healing and ground targeting is a plus. Empower is where the insane amount of healing takes place. I did a test with 250 healing power and each tick healed me for 71. You receive three ticks each time empower pulses so that adds up to 852 without the last healing pulse(Around 2500 with) allies nearby. If you take into account 4 other allies in say an spvp match then you’re looking at almost a 6k heal on top of the rather nice 12 stacks of might each shall be receiving. Combine this with the hammer and it’s almost continuous ticks if healing.
Edit: I couldn’t agree more with Guanglai, the hammer has the potential to provide some damage and support but that potential is easily squashed by its slow speed.
I tend to use hammer and sword/shield for my bunker spec. If i’m in a more offensive role, i’ll utilize Hammer with GS. It’s all situational. I just started a stream so if you want to see how I utilize this, please take a look.
I had a pretty good idea on how it should of worked. Keep it at the current 5s each boon however, for every 1 condition you strip, 2 boons on the list are increased to 10 seconds. So if you strip and take on 4 conditions, you receive a 10 second boon for 8 boons. I think it’s fair. Keeps the solo part reasonable while adjusting it to help your allies and be rewarded for it.
You can’t think that way though. As it’s been stated before, every class should be able to perform every role. What if someone wants to be a magic wielding melee juggernaut? He/she should be able to do so effectively.
No one said anything about muscle memory my friend, just a simple discussion on how things have progressed(digressed) so far. Honestly, I think retaliation should be completely removed from the game, it offers no strategy in my opinion.
It’s rough when you’re used to something then it drastically changes almost forcing you to use something else. This isn’t a QQ reply but rather a breakdown of what has happened thus far.
-70% reduction in effectiveness to wrathful spirit
-100% reduction in effectiveness to SoW on the GS
-50% reduction in boon duration to SY(still keeps condition stripage)
-1st profession to receive a rearrangement of skills(most call this a significant nerf)
-Tomes effectiveness has been dropped anywhere between 50-100% depending if you’re running Hallowed ground(SYG doesn’t last long enough unless traited)
-Signet of judgement isn’t affected by traits
I’m not saying some or all of these didn’t need adjustments, just I think it could of been handled better. Again, these are massive changes to the skills/traits listed in a negative way.
What weapon skills do we have to remove conditions? The only trait given to the Guardian is searing flames to remove one every twenty seconds. Utility and combo fields are another story.
Someone might bring it if they’re focusing on the sole purpose of giving boons to their allies and stripping said allies of conditions if applied. Nothing wrong with that.
It was on a long cooldown and took conditions to compensate. You don’t hammer th carp out of a skill and call it an adjustment. Things like this need to be chipped away to find a solid balance. Everything so far has been too far to the extreme in terms of nerfs.
You realize that with a simple nullfield/corrupt boons, you’re essentially screwed? There’s a few counters to this to make your day go from awesome to a sudden,“oh crap i’m dead.”
Awesome, Lets see if we can get some people together and figure out a plan.
It just doesn’t seem right. Every other class has a pretty solid ranged weapon besides the Guardian. The Scepter requires your target to stand still to be effective which never happens. Those little orbs can be avoided by simply strafing left/right, it’s rather embarrassing.
An extra two seconds of invulnerability with the ability to attack. A pretty sweet deal for a utility.
Wow you are mad man :P
Calm down, it’s only a single nerf on a single ability, it will happen again and again in very MMO.
Just having a reasonable discussion about this. I still believe it was a bit extreme, like most nerfs to this classes abilities. This isn’t some minor decrease, a 50% reduction in effectiveness is quite the nerf and I honestly haven’t encountered many people who thought it was op to begin with.
Because if you’re probably going to be running a full shout build which unless you have runes of the soldier or purity of voice, you’re not going to remove any conditions.
First its been stationary since the beginning and wasnt intended to be mobile.
Now when it is mobile then its not a buff, but a fix!!?
What was the bug?
Semantics, its a huge buff to the guardian on an already strong skill.
It’s not a buff because even though you were recharging virtues, you were a sitting duck not being able to close the distance on say a ranged class while he/she retreats to a safe distance and picks you off as soon as you’re done taking said dump.
I don’t necessarily agree with the +1 second per each condition received. If you’re running a shout build then you’re most likely not going to be able to remove many conditions. This was the trade-off. A long CD while being able to assist your teammates was key. Not to mention how easy it is to corrupt these boons and completely mess up your day.
I understand the importance of virtues. I just think this elite should of been mobile at the beginning. As it stands right now, this wasn’t a buff but rather a fix. Simple enough.
Why don’t they just remove retaliation all together and replace it with another duration buff. Maybe swiftness? I’m just throwing ideas out there because this nerf is a bit extreme just like the GS, signet not being affected by other traits and so on.
If the whole point of all of this was to tone down retaliation, why not just remove the boon from SYS and keep the duration the same? Seems reasonable to me.
This skill should of been mobile in the first place. As much as I love the change, it didn’t do much before but let you live 3 seconds longer(if you didn’t have conditions on you) while looking like an idiot recharging virtues.
