They confirmed awhile ago that as long as the guild leaders have HoT they’ll be able to set-up the guild hall and anyone in the guild can make use of it. However, use will be limited. For instance if you don’t have HoT and your guild makes a hall you personally wouldn’t be able to learn to be a guild scribe and use the scribe station to make things.
1. I don’t see how releasing a class a bit early for pre-orders is changing your entire game plan, in fact the entire game was released early for preorders at launch.
it wont change very much other then why should it be the revenant as i want the mastery system in tyria a little before and use that or wait we can also do the pvp maps a little before.
why the class?
and if the class why not the rest? answer that in a way where all will be satisfied or at least the majority of all players.there are a lot looking forward for the mastery changes and also a lot looking forward for the pvp map changes and wvw map changes and simply put there is no reason able to satisfy one that dont care about the new class but cares about any of the other things and then they will say stuff about why release the class first why not the thing i like and that will most likely be way releasing all at the same time is the smart thing;)
You can get points towards the mastery system, right now. They said content in the vanilla maps that earn mastery points will be given to accounts that earned them when the expansion arrives.
For example, if doing the personal story gives you X mastery points and you do it before the expansion, you’ll get those points when the expansion arrives.
You can get the points yes, but not the xp for it. So when HoT launches in the current maps you’ll be able to select a line right away, have to go do things to earn xp in that line and only after you complete the bar will you be able to apply those points.
To use an elite spec you need to have the expansion and be level 80 and unlock it using hero points. Since you’re boosted to lvl 80 and everything is unlocked in sPvP you’d just need the expansion for using it there. Here’s a link to the blog post where they discuss that: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/specializations-part-two-reward-tracks-and-elite-specializations/
Just read that link again and they lied in it
Some professions will be getting a single main-hand or off-hand weapon, but each weapon should really open up some new playstyles for a given profession.
No profession got a single main-hand weapon if they dont change the engineer to mace instead of hammer and then they lie on the.
The ranger’s druid specialization will allow the ranger access to the staff weapon, while some other lucky profession will finally get access to a hammer.
Umm, no. More likely than not at the time they wrote that they probably were planning on at least one profession getting a main hand weapon (Ele’s were originally getting sword). Plans change especially in development. A lie would be if they had no intention at all of giving a main hand weapon when they said that. I don’t that’s an allegation you can prove.

I do know the internal workings of game development, and even mmo development. Your assumption on comparing beta and live environments, and how they are completely different, and how it would require allot of work, is entirely wrong. Now i don’t have exact details on Arenanet’s operation, but unless they did something completely bonkers in their structure, releasing this class a bit early should not only be possible, but possibly even be safer in terms of not encountering unexpected problems.
Unless you specifically know how Arenanet has things set-up in their programing for this game you can’t legitimately make the assumption it would be easy for them to just activate the Revenant without anything else that is coming with the HoT release. You might consider that sort of set-up bonkers, but then you probably don’t know everything about their engine and how things are set-up, so again that’s not really an assumption you can actually make.
Pretty sure there is no button or switch to just make Rev available, so probably should stop treating it as if it’s that simple.
You can’t even start the personal story until lvl 20 and once you do that you’ll have to go do other things to level up enough to continue the personal story every few levels anyway.
personal story starts at level 10 not 20
then is restricted per 10 lvls until 80 by each part within each of the chapters. Thus you don’t finish chapter 1 until you’re lvl30 or can’t play that arch of the chapter until lvl30.
OH, that’s better. I wonder why I was thinking it didn’t start until lvl 20 >< And yea, I am leveling my Mesmer the slow way with the personal story now and I keep finishing chapters and then having to grind out a few levels before I can continue with the story… which I find frustrating. Been considering blowing some of my tomes just so I can go through all of the story at once.
Given that they specifically said at the PAX South announcement of HoT that the Revenant would be there for new players to be on an equal footing with veterans in this one profession, no, they aren’t going to hand it out early.
You can work on the jungle with established alts while leveling your Revenant and your masteries will convey. Nothing says you can only play one alt for weeks.
Why can’t the new players level the Rev along with the vets? Is releasing it a month early going to stop that somehow? And if they don’t release it early and on expansion day, 5 minutes after char creation I’ve tome leveled it to 80, how is this putting the new players on an equal footing?
This is really what it’s about, no offense to people who tome-level, but i don’t want to be punished for not doing that. I’m guessing new players are getting punished by it aswell. They don’t have that instant 20 then tome to 80.
Yes… it’s totally a punishment for people to experience all the old content… That makes tons of sense /rolleyes
For veteran players, if you make the choice you want to play your new Rev through the personal story and all the season two content then go ahead and do that, it’s your choice and choices have upsides and downsides. I’d still recommend using scrolls/tomes to level though. You can’t even start the personal story until lvl 20 and once you do that you’ll have to go do other things to level up enough to continue the personal story every few levels anyway.
Now I know I’m part of the minority here but as someone who has purchased Electro Blue and Electro Pink, two of the most expensive dyes, This new birthday present has made me pretty kitten angry. Why should someone get something that has equal value to that of a Precursor for free?
Granted they may not be truly worth the amount of gold they’re listed for… blah blah but they’re still a big ticket item, just as legendaries are, They’re something you can be proud of but this present has taken away all value.
My husband bought me the precursor I wanted as a Christmas gift, I guess that makes you angry too?
Seriously… the whole point of gifts is getting something for free, that’s what a gift is. Yes they could have made a special dye people can only get on the third birthday of their characters, but that would have been pretty lame. It’s nice we get to choose a color we want. If you are going to be upset anytime people get something you bought as a gift, you should probably just stop buying things.
GUILD HALLS!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also all the other things like elite specs, new zones, Mastery system… but mostly all the guild hall things.
Oh I see… Idk if rebuilding the entire system is really needed. I could see them leveraging the current system to build out actual scavenger hunts which would be fun. I’d think they’d be able to add some new collections where you have to find things out in the world fairly easily.
Isn’t that exactly what the current collections system is? There are all kinds of different collections some of which do require you to find things from doing different things/in different places. Some collections aren’t even visible until you find a part of it.
… also mentioned that what we have seen of verdant brink is about 25% of the story and zone. So that should give some feeling for that zone at least.
A nicely presented post, but I want to correct this one thing: What we saw of VB was 25% of the map (could be 25% of all of it, or 25% of just the one biome out of three, I’m not sure). But nothing said what percentage of the story we saw, just that it was only the opening bit so as to avoid further spoilers.
Ah yea that’s a totally fair point I mispoke there. My personal assumption is we have only seen at most 25% of the story that’s coming with the xpac, but Colin definitely did not say that.
Colin said on the PoI before the BWE last week that they aren’t going to release all the specific details of the expansion before it comes out. So we won’t know how many zones, the size of them, how much story there is going to be etc… He also mentioned that what we have seen of verdant brink is about 25% of the story and zone. So that should give some feeling for that zone at least.
On the one hand, the fact they aren’t revealing everything pre-release is sort of nice. One problem I have in other MMOs is everything is found and known before the patch/expansion ever hits which really limits the enjoyment of exploration and discovery, which are two things Arenanet seems to care about preserving.
However, I do get some people want to know exactly what they are getting before they buy so not knowing these things is a big problem. That is totally understandable.
The thing is, pre-purchasing any game or expansion is always a gamble. Even when all information is released things still sometimes change or get cut because there are a lot of hard realities when it comes to game development and especially when it comes to MMO development.
Anywho, basically in this case if you want to know everything you are going to get before it comes, you should probably just let go of the idea of pre-purchasing HoT. They aren’t going to make a lot of info available. There’s nothing wrong with waiting until the expansion comes out and buying it then if you feel like it is worth your money. Sure you’ll forgo the bonus things, but taking the risk ahead of time is why companies offer those bonuses in the first place.

Happened to me too. So now I have a couple of ?? items sitting in my bags. Every now and then I glare at them but they still don’t tell me what they are
I enjoyed everything I played this weekend Bugged events were obviously annoying but they know about those. The Reveant changes were awesome, though I didn’t use weapon swap much as the two swords were great in most cases. The bugged 3 skill was a bit of a pain, but Roy already knows about that one
I took my Tempest into CoF to get a feel for how Warhorn and the Tempest works in a situation I am used to playing in normally. (Unfortunately I totally forgot about trying out the shouts). Overall it worked really well and fit into my standard build smoothly (usually run dagger/focus).
Might stacking and spreading was neat and seemed better than on live currently (also stacking all the burns!). I really like how directional the warhorn skills are and that I have to actually pay attention to what I am doing instead of just hitting them mindlessly. I was also surprised to see I could use other skills while using my overloads, I am not sure if that was intended or not.
I do have some specific feedback about the overloads. Overall they all felt sort of weak. The Earth one’s cripple didn’t seem like it did much and the protection on my party members wasn’t noticeable at all (though it looks really cool).
Also the CD after using overload seems too short. Basically I could blow the fire one, switch to air, use my skills there use that overload, and then immediately switch back to fire. I think having the overloads be more effective and have a bit longer CD would be better and more fun overall.
Yea it’s something they want to do, but figuring out the best way to do it and then implementing it is a huge task. I’m sure they’ll do it sometime, just not anytime soon. If you want to fill in the story parts you don’t know here’s a pretty good summery: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1
They have confirmed that Tomes will continue to give one level for characters under level 80 and spirit shards for characters over lvl 80 after the expansion. There’s no reason Revenants would be singled out by making tomes not work for them.
I’m a RPer, and I have characters that would have matched Elementalist Sword and Thief Rifle perfectly. And while the Elemenalist will actually work well with the reality of the Tempest, the Thief and staff are such a mismatch that I’m now worried about all of it.
You of course don’t have to use the elite spec or new weapon regardless of what it is. So after it is revealed if you don’t think it fits your character don’t use it
When is PAX Prime?
PAX Prime starts August 28th.
All you have to do to unlock the waypoint near a dungeon is join a group doing the dungeon, walk into anywhere on the that’s dungeon’s map to get a port in, after you have loaded into the map walk out the front entrance and you’ll be right next to the nearby waypoint.

Have to be level 80 and have bought the expansion. They wouldn’t lock having to do Season 2 as a pre-req because that locksout anyone who wasn’t playing then and hasn’t gone back and bought the seasons. Parts might not make much sense without playing Season 2, but it wouldn’t be required.
Eh I’d guess the release date would more likely be announced at PAX Prime because that takes place right around the 3 year anniversary of the game.
The new pre-cursers and new legendaries are not going to be tradeable, that is confirmed. So it is possible for the new pre-cursors to be ascended instead of Exotic. However, I don’t think it would be likely they would do that. There just doesn’t seem to be any real point to it.
Sure its not the type of bags you have equipped?
all the gears are stored in the same “20 Slot Fractal Exotic Equipment Box”
And there’s your problem. The 20 Slot Fractal Exotic Equipment Box only holds Exotic gear, so no your “pink” (Ascended) Hammer is never actually in that bag. Which is why it shows up to be sold while your exotic gear doesn’t. You need a regular invisibal bag which you can put any type of gear in, including Ascended, so your Hammer won’t show up to be sold.
Pretty sure there will be at least one weekend event with the elite specs open. Would be totally bizarre if they didn’t do that.
Buying hero points would break the system just as much as allowing people to refund them.
OP (and everyone asking for Hero Point refund) here’s a post from Jon Peters explaining why this happened and why what you are asking never will happen. Read the quoted stuff in addition to his reply.

You can complain and be unhappy all you want, but there are actually reasons it was done this way and at this point it isn’t changing.
I thought they said somewhere that tomes will only work once per day on Rev because they didn’t want vets to blow through the content while newer players have to level grind.
That’s wild specialization based on nothing but people’s hopes and dreams because for some reason they think players being able to auto level their Rev’s to 80 is somehow bad.
Anyway, like others said they didn’t drop the skill scrolls change on us last minute. The changes to the wallet post covered not only that but also how tomes changed as well. Basically if you are under lvl 80 they will give a level, if you are lvl 80 you’ll get one spirit shard for using one.
Yea it’s the downside of all the betas so far. I had intended to play the Revenant for Guild missions this weekend but oh well.
Alternatively you can still group with guildies, and if you use voice chat you can communicate that way instead.
I’m not sure. From what Colin said on PoI though it sounded like you could create your rev, log onto your live character and place things in your bank, log over to your rev and take the things out. Someone would have to try it out though and sadly I am stuck at work atm
What Astral said. You can put things in your live bank and they’ll be copied over to your Beta slot but you can’t do the reverse.
Does anyone know if it’s safe to use ascended gear on revenant or will it be deleted, too?
Colin just said on PoI you can put your Ascended gear in your bank and grab it on your Revenant to use because the Beta slot is just a mirror of your live account.
So basically the Ascended gear you would be using would just be a copy of your actual gear.
It’s hard to identify with some of Soule’s stuff because they don’t have much of a tune to follow.
What??? Soule’s soundtrack is extremely melodic… how is there no “tune” to follow?
Should be able to.
Here’s the post where they say elite specs have to be unlocked and equiped to use the new weapon. It’s the last sentence in the “New Weapons” section.
Edit: Helps if I actually paste the link!

A bonus with this test is it isn’t going to take place in new areas so you won’t be distracted by trying to see/experience/figure out new things while figuring out Revenant
My suggestion is to first go do something you are really familiar with a zone you really like, a particular dungeon, sPvP whatever and experiment some. The Hammer and Mace/Axe skills are pretty positional (Hammer especially) so that will be something to watch out for.
I had hoped they would pick up with the spec announcements this week but I guess not I’m hoping they get the weekly announcements going soon. There is still quite a lot I want to hear about in addition to the rest of the elite specs.
TP. Saved since I started playing to buy The Legend
On a side note… Long gone are the days of helping a guildie or friend gear up. The RNG model that game companies seem to love today are just one of several design decisions that discourage community and socialization. Joining a guild, making friends, helping and depending on them allowed people to progress. Unfortunately, many players will never know what a true MMORPG community can be (pre 2005 era) because of implementations like this. MMORPGS today are nearly as shallow as a red team/blue team halo match.
Back to the regular thread.
Eh there’s still ways to help. I know my guildies were funneling me their shortbow drops to help me have more opportunity to put things in. Also when I was just in need of some T6 mats to finish the last gift they donated some mats to me as well. I’ve also helped others work on Ascended gear by giving them silk, and I’ve helped them with T6 mats as well. There are still things guildmates to can do to help each other.
My husband bought my pre-cursor off the TP for me and gave it to me as a Christmas gift since I had all the other parts for it but I hadn’t managed to get it from the mystic toilet in a little over two years of trying.
Ah, see, I never bother naming my pets because names don’t stick and I swap them around relatively often depending on what I’m doing. I really hope they fix that issue sometime in the near future.
That has been fixed. Tested it out before I shelved my Ranger. Sofa King Todded stayed on my jungle cat after changing it out, shutting down the app, then opening it back up, then switching back to the jungle cat.
O.o I did this on this past Sunday and the name was not kept on my pet. I mean it would be awesome if it did actually work but I’ve never actually seen it work.
So I’ve got 46 tomes of knowledge sitting in my bank right now along with a birthday booster to get any character to level 20. The plan is to use them on a new revenant but I wonder if I’m going to destroy the experience in using them and being a instant-max char? I usually dont learn a class well until I’m max level(I’m still clueless on a lot of stuff on my engi and he’s been 80 forever), so does anyone who’s played a bit in the beta think its going to hurt the experience or won’t it matter?
I don’t see how it would ruin the experience. So much of what is done while leveling is done at max level. I personally particularly like them because I enjoy doing the personal story and this way I don’t have to stop to level just to continue to do that.
Another thought is, you’ll be able to work on the Mastery stuff quicker so that would be helpful.
I want to be able to have all the of the dinosaurs they showed in the original trailer as a pet
I feel pretty certain the patch broke the fix they did ages ago to reduce the likelyhood of dying getting into it. The biggest thing you can do is trait into the reduced damage from falls until it gets fixed again.
“You guys know how every MMO we have ever played or even heard of refunds skill tree points when they make a major overhaul or sometimes even a small change to a skill within a tree?”
“Yeah well GW2 devs went the other route and spend them for you at seemingly random”
Once again, don’t blame the devs blame gd people who cried about losing their skills. Those people are the reason you are stuck with your temporary problem.
P.S. I have gained 5 lvls since the patch, not one Hero Point earned…
You only gain them on odd levels, and yes if you had more skills unlocked than you would have had in this system so you have a bit of a deficit. Still doesn’t change your problem is a temporary one.
I’m holding out hope to be able to tame some dinosaurs But yea we don’t know if we’ll get new pets or not. It would also be nice if they could fix naming your pets as well
This isn’t like a huge deal or anything, but everyone saying “oh you unlock it anyway by 80 it is no big deal” is wrong.
Actually no we aren’t wrong. You taking a long time to get to 80 doesn’t change the fact that just by leveling you will get enough points to unlock all the lines and skills. It doesn’t mean you’ll have to deal with it a bit longer than if you leveled faster.
1)I am not getting to 80 anytime soon. GW2 is supposed to be casual friendly, I thought, and I enjoy the game. I am new. I have 3-4 alts, from 15-45 that I alternate through to enjoy different professions and see different parts of the game. I play casually, an hour here and there on some weeknights, maybe a good few hours on one weekend day. 80 is far away for me, and even further away if I play “my way.” If I wanted to only focus on one character it would come sooner but that’s not as enjoyable, and would still take a while for me.
That’s fine, doesn’t change the fact you will get all the skills by the time (if not before) you hit level 80.
2) ANet changed the way skill points, traits, and all of that worked. They were already putting work in to changing it and took time to change over your “points” into what they thought you would have picked. They chose poorly. If they were changing everything and resetting everyone’s points, seems pretty easy to throw a one-time reset option in there as well since it isn’t like the system was already locked-in for all our characters – they rewrote the system!
Like I said before, cry to the people who made a big deal on the forums about having to re-unlock skills they had already gotten. Arenanet’s original plan was just to give us the points and let people spend them how they want. People complained it wasn’t fair because they’ve already unlocked things they shouldn’t have to again. So Arenanet changed the plan.
Is it a huge problem, am I frothing at the mouth? No. Can I not advance because the spec I want isn’t possible and I can’t kill anything? Nope! But does it hurt my enjoyment of the game because the points I earned got shunted into choices I wouldn’t have made, and I am stuck with those for quite a long time due to my casual playstyle. Now I’ve got a Necro with a fully unlocked Death trait that never bought a minion skill and no interest in buying them still. And so on. I’m playing a little kitten. It’s not a huge problem but it does kind of suck.
You know what else you can do to speed up unlocking the things you want? As you’re roaming around the world do the hero challenges. Those will get you points even faster even though you are leveling slowly. Also like you yourself said, it isn’t a huge deal anyway.
Pretty much what everyone else said. This “problem” is only a problem until you finish leveling to 80, because at that point you can have everything unlocked.
If you don’t like they spent some of your points for you, well complain to all the people who freaked out at the prospect of having to unlock skills they had already unlocked. It’s because of those people that it was done how it was done.
Considering we have a major holiday in the US this weekend (and most companies actually have Friday off), I don’t think we’ll see anything this week.
Maybe next week; at least I’m hoping next week.
Oooh, that’s a valid point ><
