We have auto loot already. What you get from that is an enhanced version. And if you choose to do it through grinding that’s your choice, you could alternatively just do activities you enjoy (hell even leveling up crafting if you like that sort of thing). XP is literally thrown at players in this game. Also, if you use booster, banners, food, etc for the XP buffs it also helps it go pretty quickly.
But that’s what I am saying, they’ve switched to an episodic format so there aren’t really endings anymore. We wrapped up what we expected to do, but now we’re looking ahead to the next thing. The only real ending we’ve seen was at the end of the Personal Story and that’s because they’ve switched formats.
Well… you can’t have a “and they lived happily ever after” moment because it’s a continuing story. Season 3 will start where this one left off. The party at the end of the personal story made sense because until that time no one had ever killed an elder dragon, and that win came without very many serious costs.
This time though, the destruction and personal losses experienced have been much bigger and as a result it would be a bit weird to be all “party time!” Plus, we are far more aware that there is still a lot left to be done. And lastly, the ending left a huge question which is quite possibly very worrisome. I just think a part here would have felt really out of place.
Ok well if you mean the story I have done all of it and I really enjoyed it. It’s like a season’s worth of story on that side. Additionally, if you don’t have HoT you won’t be able to access the subsequent living story seasons so if it’s something you really care about you have to also take that into account.
Of course the expansion isn’t just story it’s everything else which came with it as well, which honestly is a ton of stuff. So yes imo it is a real legit expansion and I don’t regret a single penny I’ve spent on it.
What exactly do you mean by someone beating the expansion? This is a MMO, you can’t beat the game like you can with other genres.
Depending on when and from where you bought the game, a character slot. There’s really no other benefits since the beta weekends are over as far as we know.
Well depending on if you buy the base version or one of the deluxe versions there are in game rewards and gems.

One thing I didn’t see listed is for PvP only people who own HoT will be able to participate in Leagues.
Leagues are game-wide, not HoT-only.
Nope. They are HoT only. It’s something I specifically talked to John Corpening about at PAX.
If ascended has a reason to exist, enough for someone to spend time and resources to craft it and to anet to receive a lot of whines and go against what previously stated, it’s true also the opposite, that someone may dislike it so much for the same reason: because it’ BiS and gives a small but existent increase in stats.
and again, agony res is not negligible.
and again, it’s a long, long grind that you cannot avoid, just as agony, as you have to craft it and cannot drop it or obtain in other ways.Umm, actually you can get ascended gear and weapons as drops in fractals and from world bosses.
A negligible droprate of a random piece. Never dropped one in many, many months of world bosses and 10-15lvl fract. Not so efficient to do a full ascended set with desired stats.
Which is still different than “cannot drop it or obtain in other ways”.
And yea… if you want to have higher chance of getting them from fractals you have to do higher level ones. You can pretty easily get Ascended Rings, Amulets, Accessories, and backs from a variety of means. Which gives you a solid basis for agony resist. Then it’s pretty easy to infuse them which enables you to have even more agony resist, thus allowing even higher level fractels to be done for increased chances, all without getting a single piece of armor or weapons.
Also the “desired stats” bit is pretty much moot now because you can change the stats on ascended gear. So even if you don’t get a drop with stats you want, you can change them.

It only had a growth due to influx from recent F2P players…. but they won’t stick around at all when they realize how little Anet has cared for PvP in the past 3 years….
That is demonstratively not true and if you had quoted ALL of what Colin said you would have seen it wasn’t. Yes F2P did create a huge spike, but PvP has been growing over the entire last year. So no it isn’t all due to F2P.
One of the things they talked about during Twitch Con is they are going to be doing frequent balance updates on a regular predictable schedule.
Unfortunately, we’ve heard them say that before. It didn’t stick. We’ll see if it turns out differently this time.
Well they have a balance patch coming up here, so how about we wait for them to actually not follow through before we start complaining they are doing it wrong/failing to follow through again?
One of the things they talked about during Twitch Con is they are going to be doing frequent balance updates on a regular predictable schedule.
Of course y’all are blowing by the fact she said the last wing… Which won’t be out any time soon after the expansion. While raiding you’ll likely be getting stuff you can use to craft Ascended gear.. and oh yea you’ll be getting things to craft legendary gear as well. So seriously this isn’t an issue.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t count for Tyria masteries. Would be bizarre for them to be excluded.
Well now I have “This is Halloween” stuck in my head :p But yay, I’m so happy Mad King is coming back this year
My problems stem from time. … The end result, if the only things you have left to do in the game is craft ascended it’s not accessible right now unless you’ve got 4 hours to dump into the game consistently every night. End of story.
TL;DR
I skimmed this post and have read most of the other posts in this thread. I think OP needs to join a guild where he can get help in learning how to play the game. By no means do you have to pay to win, or spend 6 hours a day to get ascended…
Pretty much that. What might be true is the OP is unable to craft Ascended Gear in the timeframe he wants without playing for 6 hours a day, but that’s a requirement he’s putting on himself and not one inherent to the game. It’s not like the mats will suddenly go bad in your bank while they are waiting to be used…
Ok so i know you guys are working on HoT and are probably superbusy and Helloween will show up in the middle of expansion, but thing is, Helloween event is one of GW2 best events of the year that most look forward too, so i am kind of hoping this will be squeesed in somewere inbetween so that all new players also will get a chance to see the awsomeness, grind the labyrinth and level a character and eat candy until their character literally puke.
So is will we have the event this year?
Someone already answered that on the first page of this thread:
Here’s a recent quote by Colin:
After the announcement of HoT, many players were concerned that the old game content would be left in the dust. Unfortunately, that is partially true. But Johanson wanted to reassure players that even though there is a lot of focus on the new HoTness, events like Halloween will still continue and patches will still come to the old game. Johanson believes that there will be plenty to do in the old game for free players.
August 31, 2015 http://massivelyop.com/2015/08/31/pax-prime-2015-guild-wars-2-is-never-getting-a-raid-finder/
Good luck.
That’s not a guarantee it’ll happen this year though. He’s basically saying as they move forward in the game and keep pushing to new areas they will still do those events in the Old World… which doesn’t preclude them from skipping Mad King this year.
“- Anet has done too much to make this game a solo experience and removing all access to end game content least a person change from a casual player to a dedicated 6 hours a day player.”
Dude… that’s not even remotely true. Nothing requires anyone to play 6 hours everyday. What are you even basing that on?
Yea this is one of the first things I did when I learned gliding It’s incredibly entertaining.

So Halloween will still be running this year, but as to whether it is before or after the release of HoT, we don’t know yet. It is possible it might be dropped alongside the expansion.
Where did they confirm it definitely would be happening? Last I heard about it from them was at PAX Prime and then they still weren’t sure if they would be able to do it at all this year with all the HoT stuff they need to get done.
Yea, everything related to the new Elite Specs are tied to having HoT.
If you are choosing to grind for the event that’s your choice, it’s absolutely not required though so yea I’m fine with it.
As far as I have seen they haven’t clarified that anywhere. They did say in the original post about it that once the guild unlocks the scribe station members can learn to be scribes… which could mean it takes up an active crafting spot, or it might just be an additional thing.
So people would be opposed to flying creatures attacking them and trying to drive them out of the sky to a falling death? Honestly I would expect this in HoT. Maybe I am wrong.
I really really hope they do not do this.
While I love the always running events in the SW that is what I hate about it. That it is always a game of leaving but making sure someone is there to complete the event. It encourages running around tagging as many things as possible by rewarding that … not even something so small as drops to encourage people to stay.
I never really thought about that. I guess I do a service for people then because I always stay to finish events in one spot. For me it’s just way more fun to focus on my one area then run around trying to hit everything, that just sounds stressful
Ugh… could we possibly go one day without people crying about being “slapped” by Arenanet? It’s really stupid hyperbole which only makes people sound like entitled drama queens. It’ fine to be disappointed and upset, let’s just start expressing these feelings in constructive ways before we skip to throwing tantrums -_-
Traders stop spreading wrong information!
Fact is (from blogpost and Interview and everywhere) all precursor from collections and from these precursor crafted legendary’s WILL BE ACCOUNTBOUND!
Current rng precursor and new rng precursor will be tradeable! There is nothing to discuss about these facts or to understand different. Everyone who tells otherwise just wants precursor droping in price right now to buy them and get alot of gold with HoT release…
Where in the blog post did it state that? It only said that in the part where it was referring to the new legendary weapons, and its precursors, which haven’t been revealed yet.
You have to actively choose to read it wrong in order to not understand.
It is very clear in that it says the new precursors will be a new thing using the old skin. They’re very clear in clarifying that the new versions of the current precursors will not be the same item. Since they’re making a clear distinction between the new version and the old version it is equally clear that when they say existing precursors they only mean the ones that drop as RNG. The new collection based ones will not be the existing ones, they will simply use the same skins as the existing ones. They specifically point this out in the blog.
They will not be tradeable.
No. You are correct that they were being very clear, but you are completely misunderstanding.
“Each legendary weapon has two main themes that will be represented in the precursor journey. The first tier of a precursor journey starts with a collection built around one of these themes. Let’s use the Moot as an example. A moot is a norn celebration of prowess, so that’s the basis of our themes for the legendary mace named for it. The first collection is all about the hunt, so you’ll be proving your abilities by fighting fierce creatures around Tyria and acquiring a trophy to show for it. By completing this collection, you’ll unlock a recipe to craft the first iteration of your precursor—a nontradable exotic weapon with a distressed version of the existing precursor skin. It could use a little polish and refinement, which will be the focus of the second tier collection.
The second collection in your journey involves doing your research, talking to the experts, and honing your craft. You’ll need to barter for knowledge, seek out great minds and convince them to teach you their tricks, and prove your ability at the crafting workbench. All this work allows you to refine your base precursor into its next iteration. Completing this collection unlocks a recipe to do just that, resulting in another nontradable exotic weapon with the existing precursor skin.
The final collections in these precursor journeys return to the themes of their respective legendary weapon. For the Moot, this is where the celebrating starts. Since the Moot’s theme is all about partying, you’ll participate in a range of activities that include dancing with world leaders, setting off fireworks for the Spirits of the Wild, and sampling delicacies and libations from around Tyria. This final collection unlocks the recipe to craft the polished final iteration of the precursor. For all of our existing precursors, this is a tradable exotic weapon, but they will all be updated to use new skins that look much like the legendary weapons they’ll one day become. We like to think of these new precursor skins as the legendary weapon before it is embodied by its soul. Unlocking one of these new skins in your wardrobe will also unlock the two previous tiers of skins. So, should you get lucky and find a precursor out in the world, you won’t miss out on the skins. "
Basically:
Stage 1 not tradeable, Stage 2 not tradeable, Stage 3 final precursor stage and is tradeable for all the current precursors.

The only way it might play in is there are certain threads of info which you would know about or not know about depending on what Personal story stuff you’ve done. For instance there are certain characters and things from the Sylvari personal story which might pop up.
But as far as having a real tangible effect on the HoT storyline? No, it won’t matter. All of the choices in the personal story pretty much added up to flavor changes. Also since you can take part in the Living Story (and by extension the new HoT storyline) without completing the Personal Story, they can’t have the choices made there matter too much.
Gliding works mechanically very different than moving underwater does.
For instance to move forward while gliding you don’t have to do anything, if you have your glider out you are moving forward which only really leave turning to be a concern and since there is no air combat I can relax and really look at my surroundings. I also really like how I can manipulate how far I can go with the glider by using free falls interspersed.
Everything about underwater just annoys me and I find fighting underwater to be frustrating most of the time. Plus every time I go underwater I am reminded the breather does nothing and that further annoys me.
If the old precursors acquired by the masteries will be tradable, i will be pretty sad. I think it would ruin the economy.
It might make some of them go down in price for a little bit, but everyone can only craft one of each precursor anyway. Also it’s going to take a fair amount of time and effort to craft a precursor, so really the effect will probably be minimal.
I am going to level, but use my level 30 booster and start from there. I want to do my personal story and slowly learn every legend and weapon, learn my traits, utilities inside and out. I also will be skill point hunting so I can get everything possible for traits and utilities.
I am casual but also a veteran player so I usually get 5-6 levels a day with some crafting thrown in time to time..
I was actually considering that as well but I decided to boost my Rev to 80 and then do the personal story because then at least all the XP I earn from doing that will go towards getting my the Legendary Crafting and Pact Commander Masteries.
That’s the reason I made this thread. I am positive they know we would appreciate any kind of build management options, and I am positive they are more than capable of developing it as that’s really not terribly difficult thing to make. I was just curious what the reasons for not doing it are.
I haven’t had much experience with GW2’s devs and was wondering if they are any better than ZOS’s devs and do not hide or ignore simple questions. Questions that can easily be answered by “Because …”. A long shot, I know. Are they afraid it might bring elitism into the game?
Are they having problems with such a tool conflicting with other game systems?
Are they unsure how exactly to design it? What to allow and what not.
Is this something they would like sell to players and are just waiting for the right moment?
Oh well on that topic I did talk to Colin Johanson about Templets at Pax East and he said it was something he knew we wanted and he indicated they want to add them in as well, but they just had too many things on their plate to put focus there (remember this was back before the spec changes were announced).
None of the other devs have given any indication they don’t want to do templates, so I don’t think there is anything to that thought. I’ll be looking for templates sometime after HoT drops when they start doing Features Patches again.
Too bad it has misinformation, such as the Ranger Pet Names issue.
I doubt any Devs will respond here; though, of course, one never knows for sure.
Good luck.
I think the author means that if you have a pet moa called e.g. “Cedo” and a pet bear called “Mercury” and you switch out “Cedo” for a hawk, it will inherit the name “Cedo”. If you then change it to be called “Gaile” and switch it to the moa again, it is still called Gaile.
However he calls that a bug, and that is wrong. It is a way how petnames are handled by the game. It can be done different, and this method lacks some immersion, but it functions properly so isn’t a bug, but just a feature that is in his eyes poor.
For the rest you don’t see a lot of examples. I also disagree that there are too many bugs around. I think the author is confusing choices made with bugs (just like the petnames). one can say that the game lacks diversity. But thats not a bug, but a opinion.
Same as the statement bout spirits. I even disgagree there are huge issues with them.It shows a lot of entitlement, which is imo the main issue with the entire article. By calling things bugs and broken, he is claiming to be entitled to have a dev response. As these are choices made and not bugs nor broken, he is also not entitled to have such a response. (though devs, feel free to respond to it, not being entitled to it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t
I also disagree with the lack of interaction. The problem is that a dev should stand for their choices. Going into the ranger forum and defending certain choices is recipe for dissaster. half of the complaints bout a class are not even justified cause they are based on people wanting to be invincable. So they have to be carefull in really interacting. But they do listen. They do share proposed changes and they do adept things based on that feedback. Just that it is not to everybody’s liking is a fact of life.
You have very incorrectly described the pet naming bug. If a pet is removed from the active pet swap, that pet’s name is lost forever. Not a game breaking bug, but if the Ranger is a dedicated companion class, then it is silly, perhaps lazy, not to fix it.
Yea… the bug at one point was it would swap the names to whatever new one you pulled from your pet bank (i can’t remember what it’s actually called). Now it just defaults to the Juvenile and when you pull the first pet out again it will also be back to the juvenile name. I REALLY wish it was possible to save names for all my pets, it’d be a nice QoL change.
I agree with the fact, that insta 80 is nice, but you dont have time to learn the class itself, so thats why I am gona keep some lvls to learn – or play the story to finish the lvls.
What exactly do you think you’ll learn by stopping a few levels shy of 80 that you wouldn’t be able to learn by playing at 80? How exactly does gameplay change at all while leveling?
You have complete control over how quickly your abilities are unlocked and it’s completely independent of leveling. You could easily instant level to 80 and only unlock some abilities (if you are concerned about being overwhelmed) and still be perfectly fine. The whole “insta leveling doesn’t teach you the class” thing is a false dichotomy because levels are largely beside the point in GW2.
Add in the fact you’ve been playing long enough to get a lvl 30 scroll and you should have a good handle how the game’s systems work and they don’t really switch up too much when switching classes. Stopping leveling at 60 or 70 or heck even lvl 78 doesn’t really accomplish anything special. You can easily level to 80 and then if you feel like you aren’t comfortable enough to do the new content do things in the old world.
You guys are making things super complicated. Think of it this way.
All precursors are are currently just one thing. In HoT all of the precusors will have different stages with different skins associated. The current precursors as we know them will be the stage four version (and won’t be account bound). However, stages 1-3 (which are new and not currently in game) will be account bound.
That’s all there is to it.
I wonder if Anet is seeing the pattern, it seems many are very disappointed with Dragonhunter and Tempest.
It’s not like guardian and ele need any help. They’re by far the supreme classes of this game, being the backbone of any group in EVERY SINGLE GAME FORMAT.
If power creep is gonna come to these specializations, they’ll need to nerf the base classes.
So classes in a good position should have a terrible elite spec? Sorry but that is an awful idea.
I think he meant more that classes which were already in a really good spot are harder to add things to without making them OP. Also if most people are already happy any change is more likely to upset them than making a change to something most people don’t like.
Look at mesmer. Mesmer is currently great in pvp, wvw, and good in pve. Mesmer got Chrono, one of the best elite specs. Most of mesmers are happy now. When it’s working with mesmer, why should not with ele/guard?
Anyway I know it’s probably harder to give them elite spec while trying to not make it OP, but it’s not impossible, it just needs a creativity and need to know that class well. Devs probably tried so hard to not make them OP so it resulted in the opposite.
Check my idea here, it’s not making ele op, but it can be pretty strong and fun too.
I wasn’t saying it’s impossible, just more likely to not be what most people want because the deck is stacked against. It happens. They went with ideas they thought would work well and that’s about all you can really demand from designers (unless you want to be completely ridiculous). Maybe for the next go around they’ll be able to incorporate some of the better ideas the community has had.
Most Elite Specs are probably passed their general “how does it feel” feedback stage and will be more focused on things like numbers moving forward (we are just barely over a month away from launch). Daredevil and Beserker probably will have a bunch of feedback on how it feels still since they are newer.
Yes, a lot of people don’t like Dragonhunter and Tempest, guess what else; a lot of people also like them. The people who are unhappy are more noticeable because unhappy people are always more noticeable. That’s just how it goes.
I wonder if Anet is seeing the pattern, it seems many are very disappointed with Dragonhunter and Tempest.

It’s on their list of things to do. They’d like to do it, but they’re doing other stuff right now.
It’s been on their list of things to do for three years. I’ve never been quite sure why it’s so hard to save builds, even if you can’t load them — after all, 3rd party websites have managed this for 2.9 years.
So, I agree that they must have other priorities. What I don’t understand is why this has never been one of them.
Honestly… I feel like part of the benefit of the new specializations system is it seems to lend itself to build templates better than the old system did. So I sort of view it as a progression. They already knew it was a very popular request from sPvPers and now with Raids coming it’ll likely be more popular among PvEers as well.
Also the thing to remember is, 3rd party websites aren’t dealing directly with the GW2 engine and code, just because they have managed to do it doesn’t mean it isn’t a difficult thing to get done in game.
Well i feel like i was scammed buying Taimi’s dye pack today. 5/250 – with a result of 0/5 for a dye you actually wanted. Anet may find that they sell even more dyes if they actually made the dyes that people wanted in the first place available. As it is, well you fooled me once …. never going to be scammed like that again.
Unlikely. More people would likely buy them at first, but then they wouldn’t have any repeats because everyone will have what they want pretty quickly. This way there are people who keep buying them over and over hoping to get what they want.
I love the Color Swatches
Out of all announced, the only ones I would use are the Reaper and the Beserker. DH/Tempest just don’t do much for me, their utility skills are lackluster to me (traps and shouts? two kinds I don’t like using) and the mechanics (at least tempest) just don’t really make it a new play style. DH longbow is ok, but warhorn still is/was a bad choice for tempest. Can’t comment on Chronomancer or Daredevil, cause I don’t like playing mesmer or thief. Still have a little hope left for the engi spec, but doubt I’m gonna be surprised with it when its announced.
The entire elementalist community.
With the exception of those of us who like Tempest a lot. So no, not the entire elementalist community.
Not all, but probably most. I know I dislike it, and ele is my main.
And that’s cool I just get annoyed when people make absolutest statements. I know Tempest is disliked by a lot of people, but for me it fits into my current build perfectly and makes it better. Which is really all I wanted from it
The game will never be really balanced. If it was the idea of “meta” wouldnt even exist; meta being essentially “Whats consistently better than everything else”
That doesnt mean beta content doesnt include stuff that can be outright overpowered, which is definitely different than simply being powerful, such as meta builds.
When its out of beta, the balance will be closer to the rest of the game most likely.
Honestly I think it might be possible theyre purposefully allowing some overpowered content to be played briefly by people who bought hot so people who havnt bought it will want to buy it more.
Dude… you are fringing on conspiracy theory now. Honestly all they had to do to make the expansion appealing to PvPers was to make Leagues ties to HoT. That’s it. Balancing always has fluctuations, and numbers are the easiest part to fix so that’s usually one of the final passes.
The entire elementalist community.
With the exception of those of us who like Tempest a lot. So no, not the entire elementalist community.
I don’t think you will be able to unlock the Elite Specialization for some time, so you might not need all those weapons right on ‘game day’.
Then, again, maybe you can….just won’t have enough HP to unlock some of the other Specialization lines. I suppose it depends on how many HP an Elite line takes.
Good luck.
I haven’t seen any indication elite specs will be held back so it stands to reason they’ll be available to unlock as soon as the expansion hits. Leveling to 80 provides enough to unlock all core specs on a profession, but not the elite specs. So he’d either need to not unlock all the core (if he wants Herald immediately) or he’ll need to run around and collect some points out in the world.
But like you point out, we don’t know how much they’ll cost so it’s hard to plan on that side.
On game day, I’m planning to have the following items ready for what will be my new Revenant, the goal being to max the masteries, and enjoy the new content – am I missing anything?
-Full lvl 80 heavy set of armor w/sigs
-Full lvl 80 set of weapons, 2 swords, hammer, mace axe, shield, hammer, staff, and spear w/upgrades
-Full lvl 80 set of trinkets (rings, amulets, accessories, back piece)
for me, a mix of exotic and ascended on the above items depending on time/budget
-a +30 scroll and 50 tomes for insta-80
-Ample food w/15% +exp, ie; spicy pumpkin cookie, omnomberry ghost – you may want to have some RL food ready as well :-)
-Ample nourishment (any anti-Mordremoth potions like the scarlet one?) for the +10 exp
-Four 20-slot bags, probably one of them invisible for my play-style
-My unlimited gather-tools and salvage-o-matic
-Will add boosters to taste (birthday, +experience, etc…)I would advice against going instant -80.
It will lead to poor understanding of the class. Specially cause there will be no good builds available online yet. So I’m personally going into HoT with a different character and will take (some) time with my revenant. My plan is to get atleast 1 waypoint in each map, do all of the personal story (might skip Zhaitan) and get a good amount of hero-points. Byy doing so I expect to gain enough experience for bout 15 levels, and so saving me 15 tomes. I got the full 50 ready if needed, but just not planning on using them.
Because trying things and figuring them out on your own has no value at all? The only way to learn anything is just just mindlessly follow what other people deem as the best? Also best for what exactly? Because shockingly enough the best build changes depending on what you want to do.
Also your assertion insta leveling will lead to not understanding the profession is faulty. Most of the value of leveling in GW2 comes from learning the systems and how things work and fit together.
Leveling doesn’t inherently teach a profession specifically because there isn’t really any challenge during leveling. You can do whatever and it’ll work. In fact heading out to the new areas quicker will probably teach more about how Rev works because if he’s having a hard time it would tell him he needs to look at things and make changes.
The level up rewards after level 80 is the Mastery system, we’re just in limbo waiting for the expansion to come. They probably won’t add any other level up rewards because for people with the expansion the Mastery system is the focus and they want to encourage people to buy the expansion so adding more rewards for people who don’t would be counterproductive.
I returned to the game two days ago after over a year off, absolutely gutted about just missing the wings. Think they’ll be coming back in the near future?
I’m sure they’ll be back, no idea how soon™ it’ll be though.
Yea I was busy with PAX things and missed the quiver as well. Been wanting that item for ages but the timing never seems to line up for me Also sad I missed the minis >< Just not having much luck this time around.
