Perplexity is over the top. Fighting against and with it makes it a game of “who gets the first interrupt plus 1-2 cover conditions”.
I disagree, i have had them stacked on me, i have been interrupted with them and its barely dealt any damage, warriors that use it dont really scare me never seen one with high enough condition damage to make it worry me.

No, I play WvW. Healing and Group support is what I /do/ as Elementalist and I’m kitten fine at it. You can be really tanky while providing a good amount of control for your teammates. It takes a lot of work, but the payout is really good.

I can solo cap a camp with no-problem, even with someone on me, depending on what they are. I find it fun to cap a camp where the dolyak’s don’t move and then start upgrading it and laugh as people try to take it back as I stay alive and keep all the NPC’s alive while giving out buffs.

We have a Renewing Stamina and Zepher’s Focus that give us alot of endurance for dodges.
So do other classes. I can pretty much keep Vigor up for like 90-95% of a fight without really sacrificing anything on my other character. So i again dont count dodging as a reason for the low health, as all classes can do this and most(if not all) have access to Vigor
Which classes would those be? The Necro class you seem so fond of has NO dependable vigor sources at all.
The only other classes that have access to sustainable vigor boosts are classes that have similarly low hp.
Guardians only have 10k base hp at lvl 80.
Mesmers have cloth armor and lack the constant self heals of Eles.

i said ACCESS, my class (Mesmer) can have it up 90%+ of the time during a fight. On crits and on Shatters. The heals of an Ele mean nothing if they can’t do the damage to kill someone. As i said, i have not feared fighting a Ele for a long time, they dont offer anything that could threaten to kill me. Sure they might stay alive for a while with the healing but its going to only end one way them running as i cant chase very well or die.
Then again, the only ones i seem to find are the bunkers
If you are talking about bunker builds I don’t really consider that strong. Teh bunker was nothing more than a desperate reaction to the fact that we were bad at EVERYTHING else. It was the only build useful in tpvp.
No, they were very strong all over. D/D was pretty sick. That was ALONG time ago though The funny thing is that even though they were strong in early release they were EVEN stronger in the BETA they pretty much got nerfed across the board for the release and they were still strong at the start.
Of course, time hasnt been good to them

lol. Solo as in 1v1, I don’t bother. I get up and go get a drink. So, I am not the one to give you an answer there. The rest of it we do fine. We don’t have alot of healing skills. If you are managing to just heal, I have to wonder what you are doing the other 90% of the time.
I dont have any problem doing any of that stuff on my other classes, but Ele not a chance. Far to squishy, doesnt have the mobility in combat other classes have, doesnt have the damage other classes healing is fine if you can actually do enough damage to kill someone. I hate bunker builds i find them tedious and boring to play so that wouldnt be an option

Except that the mesmer doesn’t have any real problems. The only problem is that the current meta favors condition which will get fixed. elementalist have always been bad except for the cheap bunker crap and nothing more.
“Always” i remember in the BETA and just after they were insane. D/D seems to be loved as well even if i dont like it. You might be there now, Mesmers will be joining you. They don’t have many problems that true other except:
1) a trait tree that is a total mess with traits in the wrong tree, traits that dont work or traits that no one actually wants
2) The fact that people despite the fact they get nerfed pretty much every patch STILL cry for more – an example being the wanted 20% nerf to one of the few viable (except for S/TPvP) builds
Other then damage wise, i would say Ele and Mesmer are quite similar in that Anet doesnt quite know what they want them to be, Mesmer seems to be getting pushed (forced!) towards Interrupt builds which is the EXACT opposite of what happened in GW1 where they started out as Interrupt builds, Anet found out that no one liked them and so had to “buff” change them into more damaging

isnt EVERY class expected to avoid damage with dodges? so i dont quite see why that would be such the case. Yeah what i dont understand my Necro is level 40odd and when buffed to level 80 (though its not technically 80) has nearly DOUBLE the health, combine that with DS and its insane
Maybe thats the problem with the class, time to stop them being a “support”/“healing” class and buff them up elsewhere, reduce the healing done by all the skills, maybe even make water a pure “support”-damage atunement afflicting Vul, Chill, Poison and such and not as “Healing” atunement.
Then they could buff damage, buff conditions (i love conditions^^) buff health and other stats a bit as well.

Personally i dont agree with that, look at Necro they have Death shroud which is a whole new health bar. I just dont see what Ele has that means they should have such low health, from what i have seen the damage isn’t exactly that great either.
They dont have that much mobility either, Thieves, Mesmers and in the right situation even Engis and rangers can have decent mobility. What if you dont want to be a support build? what does the class offer then?
I cant remember the last time i panicked when fighting a ele, let alone died to one.
Why does Elementalist have the LOWEST health pool and is the “squishiest” class? I mean in WvW my level 40 Necro (without traits) has nearly 20,000health my Elementalist who is level 80 has 11,600health :/

Its not that, i get that all the time. It’s basically them trying to hide how bad their server system is by blaming it on the player. I get the funny old error about not being able to access log in servers while i am IN the game….
Also i am getting the same, though it seems to change each and every time. One second its about privileges, next it blames security software. I wish they would just have an error that admits – “Sorry you cant log in, we have a terrible server system”
I dont play neither of them, i play WvW and little bits of PvE, i got bored long ago with S/TPvP boring gameplay, same old same old with few maps that change nothing of what really it is.
So annoying, every class has options for condition builds, every class has traits for conditions on crits minus Guardian and ele and it makes NO sense what so ever. Looks like i wont be playing me ele then, as i dont like any of the other builds. Maybe try Engineer and see whakittens like.
That kind of sucks, this is something i cant stand about GW2, they should have taken a note out of Rift the talent system in that is SICK.

I have 3 classes:
Necro – Condition build
Meser – Condition Build
Elementalist – Random Build
Now i have spent ALOT of time on my Memser as i got a little bored of my Necro condition build as it just didnt feel fun. Now i am wanting to give my Mesmer a break and i looked right at my Elementist as i just love caster classes.
So it got me to thinking, can Ele do condition builds well?
I am thinking No, based on the fact the tree with condition damage doesnt have any traits that that for example give bleeding on crits and such. This is something my Mesmer shines out – Confusion, Bleeding, Cripple, Blind, Daze, Burning, Vul, Poison, Weakness it pretty much does them all except fear but i cant seem to see how a condition build on Ele would work…
any overflow that opens up 10 minutes after the invasion begins will not have the event active.
And how can we know if the overflow we are in opened 10 mins after the invasion begins?

Greatsword necro skills will focus on damage and self support
1) Cleave 3-hit combo that inflicts cripple and weakness with every third hit.
2) Reaping Strike. Steal up to 2 boons from your enemies.
3. Wrath of the undead. Smash your sword in the ground to inflict AoE bleeding, poison and chill.
4. Agonizing Cry. Fear nearby enemies for 1 second and recieve might and fury.
5. Armor of Darkness. Recieve protection and 25% life force.
If Necro was ever given the Greatsword, what they need is DAMAGE not more condition and more Fear.
- Remove Cripple, that would be to overpowered. Weakness can stay.
- should be ONE boon, not 2.
- keep bleeding, remove all other conditions
- change into something else, they dont need more fear
- reduce LF gain to 10%
I would love to see the Mesmer get Hammer and/or Shield we need some more melee options all we have at the moment is the Sword and well with the BF it now sucks.
That being said, when Ascended Weapons are introduced with a new damage bracket, Engineer Kits will fall even further behind in terms of damage. I’ll look forward to what Arenanet plans to do when such a thing occurs.

Its to easy to defend if you are server that seriously out numbers the other 2 servers combined.
not sure if it does now, though i highly doubt it. I think that we should be able to use enemy fields against them. Sure some skills wouldn’t be possible Mesmer Feedback for example.
However things like Chaos Storm, if we use a leap out of it we should get Chaos Armor for example. This would mean more tactical play would be required i think it would be a great way to shake things up if they time a field wrong then we can punish them using the field.

Adding in: Confusion being halved in spvp (fine) and WvW (not fine at all). Confusion+Glamour builds destroyed with Blinding Defubblement nerf on top of that. Chaos Armor is now a joke. iZerker didn’t work for like 8 months. Phant CD’s have been increased at least 2 times before the IC nerf. Some traits like Phantasmal Haste simply do not work. Portal has been nerfed like 5 times (even though uses cap was warranted, CD is not). Time Warp got hit by 50% reduction of Quickness power (like frenzy haste etc) but, unlike those other skills, got no compensative buffs – while still sitting on a 210 sec CD. Scepter still doesn’t have a proper identity since they took away confusion from auto, back in BWEs. Torch phantasm is still a joke..
Next will be longer cool down on Phantasms, 20% damage reduction on Phantasms, 50% less health on phantasms, Shaper Images reduced to 1% chance and then they will start on Shatter builds…
So if i have say a weapon that deals 986 – 1205 damage means i am LOSING damage by using kits? I am guessing the weapon stats (Power, Vit, ect) all still affect the Engineer when they are using a kit?
We now take ret on blurred frenzy, plus it has a longer cooldown. IC moved to grandmaster so all illusion-summoning skills have 4 seconds longer on cooldown (or 8 in the case of decoy) unless we stick 25 in illusions, blinds/invulns cancel phantasm summons, iLeap still hasn’t been fixed and there’s rumours of phantasms having a -20% damage nerf.
Sure, mesmers are totally FINE.
I rarely ever get annoyed on this forum, but even thinking about the constant mesmer nerfing just infuriates me.

So i am coming back to Engineer, i had one before months and months ago but deleted it barely got to level 15-20 so dont know alot about them. I was wondering, How does Weapons and sigils go with Kits.
I mean will kits do more damage and such if my weapon is more powerful? Say that i am level 20 nothing changes but my weapon it does more damage and has higher stats then previous one, would this make my weapon kits (Flame, Nade and Elixir) do more damage?
Another question i have, I am guessing things like Corruption sigils work with kits, if you kill something with a kit you gain a stack but how does “On Crit” and “Weapon Swap” sigils work. At a guess On Crit would work the same way. Would Weapon Swap ones activate through kit swaps as well? of course the 9/10second cool down would stop you being able to continually use them
We were smacked purple with the confusion/blinding befuddlement hit. At the point of blurred frenzy eating a double beatdown, I’d argue that we’re a horse that has been beaten to death, unkindly raised from the underworld by a local Necromancer, and are currently strapped to a stake, ala Joan of Arc.
At this rate, there are probably two class mechanics left to nerf into the dirt: Shatter and Phantasm. Judging from at least one thread over in PvP land, I’m betting Phantasm’s getting burned next. Worst part is, all they’d have to do to “nerf” it would be to disallow stacking from Empowered Illusions and Shattered Strength. This would bring the damage down, while still allowing for multiple ways to craft a Phantasm-centric build. I won’t hold my breath for that kind of common sense, however.
Yep, build by build they are destroying the Mesmer class. Once Phantasm builds are dead and buried you can bet they will go after Shatter builds. This is ALL Anets fault for several reason.
1) bowing down to pressure from casual players that refuse to LEARN about the class and how to defeat them and the casual players that think of ONLY attack, no dodges, no defensive play.
2) They i dont think even know themselves what they wanted the class to be, they wanted something unique and fun, they got that but arent happy with it, nerfing the builds that people like but not buffing in areas that could lead to new builds
Seems they now want us as an interrupt class, personally once Perplexity runes are fixed this wont be viable at all. Unless they go all the way and make it so that we cause conditions on interrupt think we give Vul currently but we would need more
Maybe have it so we cause confusion (Via trait, no rune – Warrior can…) gain things like Protection, Retal and such but this would take quite a bit of work and wont make all Mesmers happy.
Due to all of this, thats why i ditched my Phantasm build its only a matter of time before it becomes useless so moved to Condition builds, which i love but alas i know its only a matter of time before thats destroyed as well

It’s the problem with GW2 catering to casuals, it means you get a bunch of lazy no-skills who can’t be bothered to actually learn the mechanics of other classes, such as a mesmer’s easily dodgeable shatters and phantasms and prefer to just QQ about it until we get smacked with the nerf bat to the point that our face is purple.
Yep. That’s why Thief Stealth will NEVER be fixed. Too many casual players love that and just how easy it is to play it next next to no skill, has HUGE benefit and next to no penalty – if you are winning, kill them. If you think you are going to lose, stealth and run.

You could make a case that Mesmers have a hard time in a hard condition meta, and I think a lot of people would agree with you. They have counters to conditions, but a lot of players don’t like to run those in standard Mesmer setups.which is not really the case as i really put everythig into condition cleansing and then was left with barely any dmg.
i prefer playing the mesmer without specing into phantasms as skills like glam, reflections, confusion and cc are way more fun. i dont care for mantras as they are not viable at all in their current state…but also not sure if they actually can be fixed.
so if they decide to head in a new direction either fix mantras, rework them or get rid of them
we have ONE Mantra to cleanse TWO conditions that is pathetic in a condition heavy meta, even before the skill has finished the 2 conditions you removed have been put back on you as well as stacks for everything else as well.
Then everything else we have are poorly executed, high cost traits – Shattered Conditions for example, not worthy of 30point trait and then we get things like thr Torch one that has a crappy Phantasm that will remove conditions if you are in range with a long cool down…
You would have to trait for EVERY condition removal, take Geomancy on both weapon sets, runes for condition removal and you MIGHT survive the initial burst, you wont survive the next as everything you had to remove the initial burst is now on cool down….
PAX = 0 mesmers, I think it describe well, condition of this class…
Yep. Yet people still think the class is an unkillable god mode class that has 1billion health, has perma access to every boon and looking at a target deals 100billion damage in a 1billion range AoE
The problem is casual players, they dont like having to do things that require defensive thinking, they are all about the attack and ignore dodges, evades and such thus they die ALOT and think that every class that has killed them in overpowered and needs a nerf.
Nerf bat is on mesmer from last year ! So dont worry , usualy its 1 nerf 1 fix for mesmer so its ok until all fixes done no nerf will be that bad !

well hope u are not blaming mesmers only for it as it is the problem with rune of perplexity that works with interrupts and ads 5 stacks of confusion for 10-15 seconds per interrupt with no icd. a stunlock warrior can put lots of stacks on u and so can engi and thief now. of course mesmers have interrupts too, but yeah confusion is sorta back which is ok after hitting for nothing before.
im sure they will nerf the runes and after that the stcks will be a little less. just dont spam buttons.
Yeah, we dont exactly have that many most we can get is 2 on weapons and a few on utility slots that are needed for other things most of the time. Anet will eventually get around to adding a ICD and knowing them it will be like 30seconds and make the set useless.
They should just change the 6/6 to increase confusion damage by 25% – EVERYONE that knows how to play removes the confusion, sends it back to its target anyway.
I met a warrior in WvW the other night i used a few attacks, interrupted him and then used CoF on him giving him 6 stacks and myself retal – he then decided to try and burst me down at this point he had about 17 stacks of Confusion – He burst himself into death and then moaned saying i was overpowered.
My reply was that ALL he needed to do was remove the condition or wait for a few seconds at which point like 10 of the stack would have fallen off thanks to Mesmers low duration with confusion but no he decided to try and burst me while he had 17 stacks and i had Retal and suddenly it was my fault that he doesn’t know how to play…
Ironic that mesmers have very limited condition clear and stability. I am sure it is a L2P issue <3

Yep, hearing alot of players also want a 20% reduction in Phantasm damage..I guess KILLING the Phantasm in 2 hits or dodging the attack is to hard for them. They would rather the Phantasm heal them or something or maybe attack the Mesmer…
There’s another option. Namely, that they quit giving in to QQ. After all, I’d bet many who play the profession do so because of the “magical duelist” business. These are people who put time into the game, and money into ANet’s collective wallet.
That wont happen. They need the casual player to be happy, if the majority want something nerfed it will be nerfed. If the majority want something buffed, it will be buffed.
This is actually another problem. Our entire class mechanic is focused on being great a dueling. No other class is so supremely focused on a single target. That’s another reason I am fascinated to see what they will do with the profession. They are going to have to completely redo illusions, our profession’s main ability, or we will either be way WAY too strong at killing 1-2 targets, or way, WAY too weak at dealing with… practically anything else. I am not surprised at all that there are still complaints about us in SPvP. We are STILL pretty amazing at it… and nothing else.
At this point, Anet is in a heap of trouble. The concept of a magical duelist sounds amazing except that it’s too specialized in a game where all professions are meant to be generalized. No matter what they do, they will ruin the profession in one way or another. The only option I see at this point is to re-release the Mesmer profession as something entirely different.
In my opinion, they messed up with the Phantasms. They ARE to strong and the actual mesmer itself is to weak. The problem they have is BOTH of our mechanics (Phantasms and Shatters) are very strong, but we have very little option to change things up, we have no other really competitive builds and even these only work in WvW and SPvP they are pretty much useless in TPvP and thats why we are hardly being used, until the Meta changes.
Though when that happens and we actually become viable again that is when we will be hit hardest by the nerf bat.
The problem is the fact that the Phantasms can EASILY be dodged or killed yet because the casual player refuses to do either of these things mean they die and when they die they complain and when they complain we get nerfed. Same goes for Shatters, you can tell EXACTLY when they are being shattered as you have loads running towards you, a bit of AoE or a dodge and the shatter is wasted.
Anet has a big problem on their hands, if they nerf it to much the class will be dead unless they are buffed elsewhere (though unlikely) or be buffed in a way that makes us over powered and make even more people complain.
Yeah, the lag has been absolutely awful today in both PvE and WvW. People disconnecting every 5 minutes, walking into walls and warping all over the place.
Yep i have been experiencing this as well. The Living story thing has been getting 5-10second lag spikes. WvW has been pretty bad even with not many people on. Disconnects and 5-10second lag spikes in fractuals as well :/
If you remove stealth from the thief the class will just devolve into a less viable version of the warrior or guardian. Stealth is easy to counter I really don’t understand why people are still complaining about it. The best strategy is to deny the thief stealth. People have already learned how to do this with CnD (long, telegraphed animation) and it can be done against d/p as well by standing inside the blind AoE (limiting the amount of stealth and costing the thief a lot of initiative). If the thief does manage to attain stealth your auto-attack or any AoEs work wonders to prevent the incoming backstab. I suggest playing a thief to understand the mechanics/mindset, after I did that I rarely die to a thief when playing mesmer/guardian/warrior/engie (can’t speak for other classes as I don’t play them). In fact it becomes one of the most predictable and easy to counter classes in the game.
My vote ISNT to remove it, but to make it what in my opinion it should have been from the start. A utility that is used at the right time.
This would of course mean changes to SOME weapons, traits and utilities they would need increased defenses from traits and such, maybe a few skills changed to blocks or dodges and such to counter the stealth lose.
Stealth should NOT be a defensive AND offensive bonus. It can currently be used to:
- burst at the start of a fight from stealth
- Reset a fight you are losing
- moving around unnoticed 100% of the time with the right traits and skills
Fix these, make Stealth a utility that you use at the RIGHT time rather then all the time and i think all the hate for Thief would disappear, currently it takes next to no skill to play a thief and do well (be honest, it doesnt) upping the skill requirement make it bit more of a challenge without removing the “fun”
Personally I’d love for mesmers to be able to use maces… not because I think they fit the profession, but because of all the legendaries, the moot is the one that I feel fits mesmers the most..
