Increase revealed to minimum 10 seconds

I’m not even a thief and this made me laugh.

To me what needs to be done for Thief;

- Less Stealth, duration and number of skills that give it need to be reduced
+ Increase traits and skills that have a defensive (non stealth!) defensive option

To me, 90% of thieves defensive options are tied to stealth, the problem is to much of there attack is as well, with traits for increasing crit to 100%, increasing damage, speed and everything else.

In my opinion, Stealth should be more of a well timed skill rather then being spammable and being nearly Perma-stealth.

The number one problem with Thief (2nd being damage) is just how much stealth they have, how easily accessed it is and how long it lasts. Unless you have plenty of stuns/dazes available right at the moment the revealed buff is about to end you will not get a thief down before they go into stealth again/

I’m just saying it’s not a main problem. To sum my point of view I’d say the only problems are thieves and zerging. Thieves as completly broken class, out of ballance and zerging as the only profitable WvW playstyle (which quite much erases roaming).

Totally agree. What they need is more defense, less stealth and less evade – some some insane high evade builds as well. So more traits and skills used for defense rather then what seems to be pure damage and burst.

@Armageddon: I feel I get most of my condition damage from bleeds. Yet, I’m hesitant to go with a specific condition duration increase since there are three of them that do damage. I find Torment really pulls through for me when faced against more than one. That said, I may give Perplexity a try just to see how well it works.

The Dom and Food buffs affect ALL conditions which is nice. So that alone is 50% extra duration for all conditions. I just add more for Confusion as thats the Condition i like to use the most, can hit 2k damage per a hit when i “burst” confusion

The problem with Mesmer is, even played by a semi competent player are still very strong dueling class. Unless that changes Mesmer will continue to see people QQing about them and will continue to be nerfed

You could see from the Beta just how “balanced” this game was going to be, it was a NIGHTMARE.

I hate to say it, but that sounds like current Mesmer in pvp. And the pvpers are still whinging about Mesmers. Particularly that Phant-spec needs a ~20% damage drop.
You’d think these so-called “pro pvpers” never learned about Dodge, let alone extra Dodge from Sigils of Energy. I am disappoint.

Its going to get more and more nerfs as Anet listen to the casuals. I mean i havent lost to a Phantasm build in ALONG time all it takes, a bit of bit of AoE and a dodge. However people moan the MOMENT they lose to someone rather then admitting that they lost to a better player, they blame the class.

If i am correct (i might not be) it was nerfed into not being used at all.

In pvp at launch was over the top, so it got nerfed, and they did the right thing toning it down.

But then they nerfed again.

And again.

After some time (can’t recall how much) Paragon became simply non existant in pvp (and with non existant i mean that NOBODY used it except some RA/duel gimmick builds. Had some friends playing pvp on daily basis telling me a couple of years ago that they didn’t see a Paragon in 2+years of play) and with a single (but strong) build in PvE, relying on a “pve only” skill taken from warrior profession.

Yeah remember hearing something about that. I have said from the start tha Anet needs to bring outsiders in to do the balancing as they are TERRIBLE at it.

Thanks for the imformation. I will keep it for now. Once Perplexity duration gets fixed it might be time to change. As i would have:

10% From Dom
40% from Food
30% Rune
33% from MoD

So that would be 113% an already thinking about Giver’s on Scepter+ Offhand that would take it to 133% lol so taking the 10 points out and putting them elsewhere would be better overall. reduce the duration of Confusion to 103%, while increasing the duration of all other conditions by 20% to 70%

Interesting. But what about the scepter-trait? Not worth going 20 points into for +200 condition dmg while wielding scepter?

Though its a decent trait my opinions (may differ from others) Its not NEEDED, it might be nice but it isnt really a requirement and i dont think 20points into that tree (i dont like it) isnt worth it.

I would put the points elsewhere and you would gain more.

you got any videos? Even traited and taking EVERY stealth it isnt that much. I dont think ours can be stacked either unlike the Thief(iirc) Its like >20seconds in total is decent the problem with using them after each other means that when its NEEDED you might not have it.

1. Does Mesmer still have a role in WvW and if so what role are most playing.

- Yes, i love playing my mesmer in WvW, i play a condition/Confusion build and have alot of fun with it. I have also played Shatter and Phantasm builds and they worked well as well.

2. Does the current large scale meta mean spamming as much Tough/Vit gear as possible or are other variations still doable?

- Pretty much any variation based on your build, i run full rabid myself.

3. I have several lvl 80’s fully geared in Exotics. Is Exotic gear still good or is there tons of Ascended pieces now? I didn’t have any Ascended rings or amulets yet at the time of leaving.

- Personally i dont think the gear affects WvW that much. I run Exotics with 2 Ascended rings currently. I dont really notice that much difference from when i was running full rares a few weeks back.

4. Are Melee trains still the meta for Zerg Vs Zerg engagements? Would I find more usefulness out of a Guardian? My guard only made it to roughly lvl 50ish but would be fast to lvl to 80 and I have most of the tokens i need for Tough/Vit dungeon gear.

Currently its a Condition heavy meta, alot of AoE spammers. Never used a Guardian so i cant answer that one.

Personally i think in WvW it isnt that much of a problem, as strange as it sounds i think its alot worse in S/TPvP. What they need to do is make Protection reduce condition damage and make toughness reduce condition damage as well.

Play the stealth/condi spec. Stealth in this game is beyond broken and it would be dumb not to abuse it.

Its broken on thieves, its balanced on Mesmers. As we cant go into stealth every 4 seconds, we cant burst from stealth as an opener either

I disagree with the food and warrior, Stealth has been broken from the start and has need to be fixed for ALONG time.

Stealth needs to be a “at the right time” sort of deal, not all the time…

I run a similar build, cept with the 20 torch trait, instead of the dodge roll trait.

Do u find yourself missing the condy removal and reduced cooldowns much?

i have ZERO condition removal in my build and i personally dont have that many issues. I mean if i come up against a condition burster then i am likely going to die with the traits and without them

And yeah, i can relate to it, i played a shatter mesmer and the condi removal wasn’t all that.

It is okay for the classes that have access to it via skills, its not okay for those (Mesmer) that have to TRAIT to get condition removal…

You would be able to salvage, at most it should be 50%, The creator could use “Salvage” and turn it into a mini supply camp that has 50% of the supply used to create the Siege.

I’d be concerned that would speed things up too much in WvW. I like the idea of just using enemy siege or a zerg actually needing to destroy their siege when they leave (but not salvage or for more supply).

No its because i am a Mesmer and we have to trait to get the tiniest bit of condition removal. Sure might have times where i will die but i would have died with the condition removal thanks to the fact that we have so little on long cool downs.

See thats where the problem is, it will be very hard to have it balanced for non-condition builds and non-confusion builds but make it a bit stronger considering the traits, runes and such you need to make it stronger but again without making it over powered.

How about:

Base duration: 5 Confusion Stacks 3 seconds
100% Confusion duration: 5 Confusion stacks 6 seconds
Attack cool down: 7 seconds

Long enough for it not to be stackable via the 1 attack but 3 seconds every 7 seconds is still pretty decent. Retaliation would last for 4 seconds, every 7 seconds because you would have to get hit by the bounce for it to proc on you

^ Thats a very interesting idea. Not to sure about the levels gained personally i would go with a lower amount. Make it so that it cant be used at level 80 for 20 skill points. I would decrease the skill point cost and increase the Karma and gold cost

Its easy enough to get to 100% Confusion Duration, getting 100% condition duration as in affecting all conditions isnt as easy. Possible yes but it would mean losing elsewhere though.

Increasing the attack cool down to 9 seconds mean that even at 100% Confusion duration it still would not be stackable

You wont even need 33% Confusion Duration if you take:
- 10in Dom (10%)
- 40% Food
- Perplexity 6/6 (30%)

That alone would be 80% You could take Givers for Main and Off hand for another 20% to get it to 100% and even increase duration of other conditions by 20%

My changes:

Cool down: 25 seconds (20 traited)
Confusion per attack: 5 Stacks for 3 seconds
Retaliation per attack: 4 seconds
Attack: Every 6 seconds
Projectile: Increase speed by 50%

This would just be completely overpowered, with condition duration you would have 5 stacks of confusion on enemies at all times. No way Anet is going to do that.

Increase the attack cool down – every 9 seconds. Done.
Kill the Phantasm. Done

It needs to be strong enough that people actually FEAR it, not laugh at those that use it. Killing the Phantasm is the best way to remove the threat? kill it.

  • I have no idea what to then do with Retal. Perhaps hose that concept, fold the Burn in with the current stacks of Confusion…make him a pure “attacker” Phantasm

Why not have it like this:

The Mage fires a Purple fiery ball at the target
When the ball hits the target it explodes

Target gets: 5 Stacks of Confusion for 5 seconds, Burning for 5seconds
Targets nearby: 5 Stacks of Confusion for 2.5seconds, Burning for 2.5seconds

Allies in the blast radius get Retaliation for 4 seconds

Radius could be the same as the Staff 3 from Elementalists think thats 180radius

I was wondering, anyone else think this would be a good idea? I mean you get them scrolls already but i think it would be nice if i could send Skillpoints that i have earned on my main to my other characters.

My main has EVERY skill unlocked and still has 76skill points, i know they can be spent on things for Legendaries but for those of us that dont like any of the current ones or change build weekly Legendary weapons arent that great, especially when you are a Mesmer and the only skins you like – you cant use

What else can the Skillpoints be spent on other then Legendary materials?

I have tried them all. I have gone back to Condition as i just love it. I think all 3 can be VERY effective. It depends on how you play though as to which would be “better” personally i dont go for the “better” ones i go for the ones that i have the most fun in and in my opinion that is:

Condition > Shatter > Phantasm

I was using Shatter Cat 3.0 before by Osicat and it was ALOT of fun and worked REALLY well i changed it up a bit for my own flavor of gameplay but even then it still worked really well.

I have never quite understood why each server cant use the other servers siege. A few tweaks (maybe major?) to the system and i think it could work. It would be GREAT to be able to take over a tower and as part of that reward is to get to use the enemies own siege against them.

This in my opinion would also reduce the amount of siege servers will place at a tower/keep knowing that if they lose the tower/keep that the siege could be used against them.

To Counter this the defending Tower/Keep owner (the person that had the print) can “Salvage” it gaining 10% of the total supply used to create it but destroying the siege in the process this would be the LAST thing you do before either dying or running

What do you guys think?

It seems all the Confusion skills and abilities i use SHOULD have them increased. I cant be past the 10% mark at all, so i am not quite sure whats going on :/

I was thinking more along the lines of a 750 range AOE 2 handed weapon “set”. You wouldn’t mix chakram with anything, it’s too much of a finesse weapon I think. Also:

Thief: Katars
Ranger: Midrange boomerang?

So i have noticed that the times on my skills that give Confusion that the confusion time doesnt change when i remove Master of Distraction (33% longer Confusion)

Cry of Frustration With: 3 1/4seconds
Cry of Frustration Without: 3 1/4 Seconds

Now surely With MoD the confusion should last for just around 4.3seconds, so lets say 4 1/4 seconds. Is the tool tip for it bugged? or is the WHOLE trait bugged?

Our downed state functionality is not a bug.

I was talking about the Stomp and Blink combo, shocked it hasnt been “fixed” yet. Same goes for the Portal+Stomp combo

The thief 2 can easily be countered with skilled use of a blink, or even easier with another thief using steal. The mesmer 2 can not be countered. It guarantees the block of as many stomps as there are people trying to stomp you, and the reasonable duration stealth means that the timing is not very difficult to use.

The direction and distance of the teleport is inconsequential. It doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that it stops a stomp.

Easily? Last second teleport doesnt always get saved by a blink and even that that requires a specific skill to be used to counter it, i wonder how long it is until that is fixed as well. We all know that Anet likes to fix bugs that are beneficial bugs and leave the ones that harm us

Could you PLEASE get around to fixing the Mesmer attacks? Now i know you hate them with your obsessed nerfing of them. But i remain (stupidly maybe) hopeful that one day, one day you will get around to actually HELPING the class.

Anyway onto the topic, the Range weapons (Staff, Greatword, Scepter) ALL have this issue it affects WvW and even the new Living Story with the final fight and the orbs being the worst that right in front of it you will get “obstructed” when trying to attack it, this doesnt happen with Melee weapons though

It also affects WvW ALOT. The Oil siege on towers and keep constantly get “obstructed” to the point of having to move all over the place to find where it will allow you to attack – this is despite being in range the WHOLE time

It also happens with guards – surely if i get “Obstructed” while attacking them then why are the other players able to hit them? why are they also able to hit me? the Cannon is another one that likes to give “Obstructed” alot

The slightest change in terrain likes to make it all go crazy as well – to the point of a little rock that you WALK over giving “Obstructed” Now its not a HUGE issue in PvE but when you are fighting a keep/tower and them hitting you (Players and guards) but you get “Obstructed” it kind of gets annoying

There was a dev post ages ago saying this is a technical limitation/fault with the system and could/would not be fixed. That was atleast 3 months ago and I don’t have the source, so may be incorrect… but yeah…

Yeah not shocked at all, seems like they didnt put as much effort/research into the engine before actually starting the game.

@ArmageddonAsh: The stealth on our 2 guarantees a stomp stop if you are using it correctly.

So does the Thief teleport and you said “their 2 doesn’t guarantee a stomp stopper” well yeah it does if they port away. Best time to use it is when they are just about to finish, the problem with ours is we might dodge the finish (if timed right) but we have NO control where we get ported to so could get ported right next to where we were or even get ported into AoE damage…

They built all the terrain then made the skill only to realize “oh crap for this skill to actually work we will have to make all the maps flat, Sod it just leave it as it is”

@Drps, confusion is not a burst condition. It procs with skill usage of our foe and hits for a whole 200 damage per stack with 1800 condition damage.

Are you sure that you are looking at the right damage? I constantly get 300+ from Confusion with just over 1,100 Condition damage. I have even seen it go as high as 1800 damage.

I can get 8-10stacks pretty much all the time and can burst to about 17-18 stacks if i do everything right. That does ALOT of damage. I was able to down and kill a Warrior through them being silly and trying to burst me down with Retaliation on Me and 15 stacks of Confusion on him….

1) Set “Flagged” so you can be attacked by others with it
2) Open world duels where both have to accept

This way it could work. Having it so EVERYONE is tagged just wouldn’t

Thief downed state is strong, but their 2 doesn’t guarantee a stomp stopper, ours does.

Neither does ours all the time. You can be teleported RIGHT next to where you were and downed thanks to that. In my opinion, Thief Downed 2 is superior due to the one fact that it isnt random.

Ours doesn’t telport us far, can port us into AoE even the AI know exactly which one we are after using it…

Make it so thakittens a min set distance, say 600 (same as Thief) or better yet make it so that we can PICK where to port and leave a a Clone where we were and us be in stealth for 2-3 seconds

Yep, the amount of times i have used iZerker and people dont move and expect it to do no damage is really annoying. ALL it would take – Dodge or a few auto hits to kill them but No, they allow them to stay up, allow them to use their attacks and then recharge and use even more.

Yep, even though others getting BUFFED we seem to get nerfed every week :/

As a mesmer myself I think mesmers do need a nerf for some builds damage wise (phantasm is seriously beast atm).

Survivability though… No touching!

Sorry but 1 dodge means all the damage evaded, a few auto attacks (just 1 for some builds) kills them I would say Phantasm is strong but no where near untouchable or unbeatable

The condition Meta owns Mesmers at the moment, we aren’t taken in TPvP, barely used in SPvP, organised groups seem to say no thanks to us as well. This is a CLEAR sign that we need to be BUFFED damage wise? i dont think so but we need some serious love.

Condition builds could use a few touches (Scepter and Torch) we arent using Phantasm builds because they are fun (i find them boring, so do many others i know) and we arent ALL (key word) using shatter builds because they are fun to some they are but because they WORK.

So, Nerf the ones that actually work and means the Mesmer class will be left with very little.

Though it being Anet and knowing how much they seem to hate us, i wouldnt be shocked if we got Shatter and Phantasm builds nerfed. If either happen they would (i hope) (but i doubt) have to buff us elsewhere.

I mean they are the most popular builds for a reason, everything else is subpar compared to them.
