Please make checkpoints obligatory in the JP

I love jumping puzzles, but the two Fire Island ones are not designed to be fun at all. If they marked the Checkpoints on the mini map, it wouldn’t be as much of a hassle. But this way, it’s just painful. I rather spend my time doing other achievements and have actual fun than getting aggressive over a game.

They should remove the “obligatory” function from Ember Bay as well, unless they finally add checkpoint markers to the map. It is insane to get through these JPs without spending hours, if not days, and getting frustrated to the point of aggression.

I think most will spawn randomly.

No, they all have set locations, otherwise you would never be able to complete the collection in more than one session. However, #26 is bugged (you only see the texture but you can’t interact with it).

P.S. This came out today, it’s not complete yet, so I will continue on my own: http://dulfy.net/2017/05/03/gw2-rock-collector-firestone-shard-achievement-guide/

The first one in Ancient Hollow: you can see the texture piercing through the stone, but there is no text attached to it as it cannot be interacted with.

Thus, the achievement is currently undoable as you can’t complete it! Please fix ASAP.

New Map, Houndskin Mantle

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Since I have been complaining a lot about the new episode, I just wanted to say this:

1. The map is super nice, I love it.
2. Love the little story elements outside of the missions (M.O.X., for instance, and the Nature’s Spirits).
3. The Houndskin Mantle looks awesome, thank you!

How would you rank the new maps so far?

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

After yesterday’s release, I have a new ranking:

1. Draconis Mons
Even though it was probably my least favorite story-wise (although I rejoiced when I saw M.O.X. and Melandru’s guardians, the ghostly Oakhearts), I simply love the design of the new map. Okay, the layout takes time getting used to, but it is its beauty and variety that really struck me as fabulous. <3

1. Bitterfrost Frontier
I am a sucker for winter-themed maps, plus it looks gorgeous at night. Could have added more waypoints to it, though. It also is most fun/easiest to farm.

2. Lake Doric
While it does look quite triste with all the destruction, its vastly empty spaces and the constant “doom-like” grey skies, it harbors the coolest locations: the forest and dungeon in the North (felt like playing D&D <3), the beautiful cave in the South-East and the nice fishers’ village to the East. Not a fan of farming and daily questing there, though, because farming the hearts takes way too long and there are not enough nodes on the map.

3. Bloodstone Fen
Has the most waypoints and newly added updrafts, which makes traveling across this map quite comfortable. The leyline streams, however, are mostly annoying, because they often get in your way of farming the Unbound Magic, and it gets even worse with those anomalies popping up out of nowhere — these two things can make roaming this map a highly frustrating experience, and it often takes forever to farm it. Not a fan, even though it looks quite nice. (P.S. Also, none of the events on the map are being explained, so they seem illogical and random to newcomers.)

4. Ember Bay
It simply doesn’t have the charme it did in GW1. In GW1, you had dark-grey rocks with a purple touch, which made the whole place look magic. Now it’s all boring, dusty rocks, murky water, and way too much lava. Plus, the JP is by far the most annoying in the history of GW2. (P.S. Totally loved the humor in the story quests, though!)

Couldn’t agree more. What were they thinking? Were they thinking at all or did they have to come up with something in a hurry?

I am so sad to see GW2 become more and more a game targeting a young audience rather than adults. The stories (and often the dialogues as well) grow childisher and more platitudinous by the year! I’m sure kids who enjoy Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles find this sort of plot fabulous. I don’t. (Hey, even the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon had a much better, more epic story, which appealed to adults and teenagers alike, than LWS3 E5.)

Not just in history, but in the designer as well. The companions of the commanders, they are teddy bears, taimi and aurene.

It will not surprise me if they remove Rytlock.

And even those who aren’t have become quite immature in their actions; see Braham, who is behaving more like a 12-year old rather than a young man of, let’s say, 20 years of age. I did not find Rytlocks dialogue this season particularly well written, either. He was quite arrogant on occasion, more like an Asura, rather than acting like someone who has just returned from a long journey through the mists, which — one would assume — would somehow lead to deeper insight into life and higher wisdom/enlightenment.

I love the new map, its fascinating design and even its layout (which, admittedly, takes time to get used to, but we’ll come around eventually ). The Oakheart’s Reach mechanic is a lot of fun, too. The story-telling, on the other hand… well, I already said what I had to say and will leave it at that.

If we had NEVER KNOWN Lazarus wa sa fake it would have been more impactful, we could have had a moment where we are working with him to defeat Primordus only for Taimi to say “commander somethings wrong” and Lazarus “Killing” Primordus would result in his reveal as Balthazar, with subtle hints left here and there about fire, honor, war, revenge.

That is a really good point. Had it been done like that, also removing any childish cliché lines coming from the God of War when he was revealing his identity and later on, that could have been a really great way to tell the story.

Finally someone spelling it out! This is just one more proof of the poor writing. How much more exciting would it be to figure some of it out by yourself. And yes, “cheesy lines” unfortunately is a label that can be applied to pretty much all NPC companions’ dialogues this LW season (except for Canach).

This. I am currently working on my last set of ascended armor. Each of my nine characters already has at least one set, my Ranger even has four. I don’t see a point in going through the pain of getting the legendary set(s) when I have enough inventory space and also find the legendary sets’ looks not appealing at all (had it looked great, I would totally have gotten at least one set and recycled my ascended ones).

It is still stupid. He could disguise humself as a seer, or forgotten, or Gleam or anything but not the most untrustworthy race in Tiria. He could reveal his true self to Jennah, and gain full Krita support. Billions of options that would work better than the one we have.

And he absorbed the bloodstone, he is not that weak, he killed people by just moving a finger in Ep1. The only reason why Majory is still alive is a) she has plot armor; b) because ritual with the mirrors weakened Balthazar.

And after lazy writing of that “grand reveal” I am completely positive that Balthazar is just an Abaddon 2.0. Made a mess up there, was stripped of most of the powers by other gods, came down to feed. Just because lazy writing is lazy. To hell, they trashed one of elder dragons in most anti-climactic way this episode, why shoud I expect real effort now?

That truly was the silliest idea they could come up with.

  • First they destroy classic Guild Wars by implementing gliding into basically everything (remember the days when characters used to walk?). Even story missions are now increasingly build around gliding.
  • Then they turn Guild Wars more and more into a sci-fi high-tech world (if I ever hear the words “magic” and “machine” combined again, I am going to explode like Taimi’s device).
  • And now, on top of all that, they also turn the Six, the Pantheon of Tyrian Gods, into magic-hungry jokes. For real? You could have done it the classy way, have them return to Tyria in the wake of upcoming events instead of this embarrassing interlude featuring the once proud God of War.

I am so miffed right now. What a huge disappointment, ArenaNet. (Of course, your ugly Legendary Armors and even uglier new Legendary Weapons are more important to you, as well as creating maps that have the sole purpose of farming instead of story-telling. Yes, this episode’s story didn’t do it for me at all. GG.)

All of them are complete garbage and I nominate Bitterfrost to be the worst map in the whole game.
It’s like they tried their best to keep people out of them. If not for berries and kitten, no one would revisit them. Can’t help but get the feeling they are putting these maps together without much effort, just to progress the story and not trying to give them some purpose and reason to visit.
If you’re not farming for berries, who in their right mind would want to revisit bitterfrost and navigate through that farting chill mess, flying and evading griffons while kittenting chill, trolls that completely freezes you for way longer than neccessary, winds that for some reason feel they have to chase and freeze everyone that runs by etc…

I’d rather them not release new map every episode and iinstead when they do release, make it like maps from HoT.

Yes, because the HoT maps weren’t “complete garbage” in terms of their structure, which turned many casual players off (many quit playing GW2 altogether because of the maps’ complex, initially confusing layouts and the need for mastery leveling in order to get everywhere).

So… Just because you don’t know how to dodge a few chill/freeze attacks doesn’t make the map garbage. Revisiting Bitterfrost Frontier for farming while having a bit of a challenge there is fine with me.

Heist Hinderer Achieve Dry Top - Poor design

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I have no problem with the event or location of the event but putting an achieve on this event in Dry Top is ill thought out.

The event scales up due to people being afk, people using the merchants, or just WP through after a jump death or two!

I have done this event over 20 times and yet to get the achieve. It is out of my control to get the achieve due to its location and randomness of people being around the WP but with no interest in doing the event.

My only hope is a major zerg happens to be on at the same time I am.

Please do not put achieves on events next to a major waypoint like the repair station.

If that’s the “stopping the skritt thieves from stealing a single supply crate” achievement: I did it with the help of two guild mates and by creating and advertising a squad in Dry Top. You wouldn’t believe how many people came running. We managed to do this achievement on the first attempt.

Edit: You just need the group to split into two, each guarding one of the gates. That way, with a total of 12+ people, you will easily defend the supplies from the skritt thieves.

Gem Store skin unlocks

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Hello dear GW2 devs,

While this is not really a “bug”, it is something that’s been bothering me for a long time:

Some skins you buy automatically unlock upon acquisition (so you have them unlocked in your wardrobe and that extra copy in your inventory that you can use instead of a transmutation charge). Others, however, do not automatically unlock, and upon adding the skin to the wardrobe, the item gets consumed.

That discrepancy is confusing and somewhat irritating. So, could you make all Gem Store skins one way or the other, i.e. they all either unlock on acquisition or when you explicitly add them?

That would be great.

TBH clothing tonics were a bad move all around. They changed town clothes into tonics in the same update that added outfits and the wardrobe. It makes no sense. They should have made all town clothes into outfits.

Yes, I agree. They should make all the clothing tonics into outfits instead, especially since we have outfits like the Jungle Explorer etc. that are totally out-of-character as no one dresses like that in the world of Tyria(1), and that goes for some skins as well (Aviator Sunglasses, for instance).

1) Then again, they have introduced a lot of futuristic, alien-looking skins this past year that would fit in a sci-fi MMO but not into GW, like the Dominator Weapons, or the upcoming Legendary Armor sets.

By the way I just don’t agree with your “lolita” insinuation. You do realize girls over the age of 18 willingly wear plaid skirts because they like to? You realize school uniforms are actually worn… in schools? Not just in porn?

Yes, I do. I did not say that it was my opinion that school uniforms were equal to “porn”, I just speculated about the reason why they were not implemented into the game. That’s all. I did not say I was offended by school uniforms (by the way, real school uniforms don’t have super short skirts, so…), the statement of offense I made was regarding many of the female armors as compared to the male ones and had nothing to do with the school uniforms. Next time please read more carefully, thank you.

P.S. I agree with you on the “child-like” Asura. The reason I picked a male one in the case of the Asura was that I find the female ones don’t look appealing at all, very childish indeed (with the extremely big eyes and small mouths), and in many cases even more like scary child puppets (Chucky anyone?).

So having the game engine solve the issue in a way by taking over the thinking for you wouldn’t hurt.

What I’m getting at is if all of the above items are acceptable, why not the school uniform? Surely it’s not that outlandish compared to those? I mean seriously you say it’s okay for a charr wearing a quaggan hat with butterfly wings and a pink wedding dress running around fighting Zhaitan. That’s perfectly normal, but a schoolgirl is going to break your immersion? Lol.

I don’t dare spelling it out, because my reply might get deleted again as an “infraction to the forum rules”, so I will phrase it carefully: You might be aware of the fact that school girl uniforms could attract a certain clientele who is particularly interested in the “girl” part of the term? I think you catch my draft. Maybe that is why they wouldn’t want to risk it (and I agree).

Although I have to say that, as a woman, I am not happy with certain other armor skins for female characters either — if there was true equality then were are the (supposedly) sexy male armor counterparts? Or game developers could just refrain from showing that much skin? Just a thought.

What you are getting at if I infer correctly is you think the school uniform is too provocative and inappropriate, to which I simply disagree. That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. What you find sexy (or too sexy) is going to be completely different from anyone else on the planet. If Anet agrees with you that’s fine. But then why did they release the other armors you are referring to? There are far more revealing clothes in the game. That can’t be the reason Anet didn’t release it.

At the end of the day games are about having fun. No one is going to force you to wear the school uniform. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. If wearing this outfit would increase my enjoyment of the game, why shouldn’t I? How does my appearance affect you?

There is a difference between “mature sexy” and “Lolita sexy”, no? The latter is inappropriate, the former is a matter of taste (although I see way too many male players, many of them adolescents, picking female characters because of the “sexy” factor).

As for your question how your appearance affects me: as a woman I feel offended when I see the way female characters’ looks are objectifying women in a certain way. That is why most of my characters are male, and I still have to put up with a deep cleavage even on my “more properly” dressed female characters.

But back to the topic: I, personally, wouldn’t mind school uniforms if they made sense in the game and were somehow connected to some of its content. Needless to say that I am not a fan of the cat ears and such.

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

That’s the intent. Anet did as little as possible to make the appearance of the armor unique, added the features to make it Legendary, and will then go back to pushing outfits.

That theory is erroneous since the Legendary Armor will provide unique pompous effects that won’t be visible unless you use the skin.

The product has to be viable on some level, but I don’t think moving parts are going to change that many peoples opinions about the medium and light armor. I mean, up until this release, Ascended gear was pretty darn prestigious if you were into having best stats, but I don’t see that many people using the skins. […]

That is true, but then again those don’t have any special effects, do they?

For instance, there are Legendary Weapons with really nice effects, but I find most of their skins highly unattractive (cheesy, exaggerated, too bright, too childish etc.). So I won’t get any of those. Now, do you see any of the people who own and use a Legendary Weapon to ever change its looks by using transmutation charges? No. Why is that? Because they don’t want to lose its unique, flashy effects (such as the aura and the footsteps) that indicate to everyone, “Look at me! I own a legendary!”

I mean seriously you say it’s okay for a charr wearing a quaggan hat with butterfly wings and a pink wedding dress running around fighting Zhaitan. That’s perfectly normal, but a schoolgirl is going to break your immersion? Lol.

I don’t dare spell it out, because my reply might get deleted again as an “infraction to the forum rules”, so I will phrase it carefully: You might be aware of the fact that school girl uniforms is also associated with and could attract a certain clientele that is particularly interested in the “girl” part of the term? I think you catch my draft. Maybe that is why they wouldn’t want to risk it (a decision I would understand and agree with).

Although I have to say that, as a woman, I am not happy with certain other armor skins for female characters either — if there was true equality then were are the (supposedly) sexy male armor counterparts? Or game developers could just refrain from showing that much skin? Just a thought.

TP Barons will also list items for hundreds or thousands of gold, as a method to get around the 500g/week transfer limit from one of their trading accounts to their main (or vice versa).

  • They ship the item from Account A to B; no cost & no limit.
  • Account B lists it for 8000g.
  • If it sells to an anon, great; the Baron is 6800g wealthier.
  • Otherwise, Account A buys it, allowing them to transfer 6800g in one day instead of 14 weeks.
  • The 1200g loss might sting (and be inconceivable to some of us, as a huge sum), but it’s a 15% loss on pure profit

(The process is similar for gold sellers — they get to transfer to gold buyers instead of their alt account.)

Thanks for the detailed explanation! That’s news to me and therefore quite an interesting insight.

The only perma i’ll keep will be the hair style already sold the bank one when it was 3k g and the Lion merch last week

Well, I guess we all have our personal preferences. To me, the bank access is the only one that (IMO) truly makes sense as it saves you loads of time.

Should salvage those rares though, unless they’re GS’s.

I have, but I still need the TP to sell the runes, no? Hope this will be resolved soon.

How dare you not have everything on for 24/7 so I can have instant gratification for something marginally useful?!!!1111111

Okay, first of all: stop being polemic.

Second, it isn’t “marginally useful”, it is a key element of the game. My inventory is about to burst from exotic and rare items I couldn’t sell all day. If the Gem Store was down, then I would agree on the “marginally useful” claim. But this is indeed majorly annoying. So…

I just hope this doesn’t mess the sell or the buy orders or i lose ALL my gold lul

I didn’t think of that. Has this happened before? (eek)

I mean, they posted the maintenance note about an hour ago, but the TP has been down for hours (almost all day), so it must be a bigger issue.
