I “put back to sleep” 2 ELDER DRAGONS and 1 GOD, by killing 2 dogs. How pathetic that such incredible opponents and fights ended as a fight with 2 dogs.
I do not understand why ArenaNet completely diminished the once epic Elder Dragon storyline in such a hasty, crude way!
I mean, what happened to this? —> Watch Durmand Priory introductional movie from GW2’s personal story
“Now, as the dragons ravage ever-greater expanses of Tyria, we must do even more. We must discover the truth that Tyria needs to survive: Were the elder dragons came from, why, and how to end their thread.”
I don’t remember us doing any of that, really. Whatever has been uncovered this far was not uncovered on our behalf, it either happened off-screen or it was Exhalted or Asuran technology getting the job done, not us, the heroes.
So much story potential wasted — potential for unbelievable, breathtaking, epic adventure!
- The orders working together on a great level
- Personal story development
- Exploration of strange, foreign lands; not some wild jungles and dust-covered volcano zones but actual (remains of) civilizations, old tombs, hidden secrets
Instead we got:
- Taimi, an immature, annoying Asura who figures everything out for us, using futuristic high-tech instead of old magics or ancient artifacts or whatever (that Asuran machine she upgraded doesn’t count, because it’s a computer/high-tech gimmick again). That’s it, end of story, no adventures, good night adversaries.
I want to visit ArenaNet’s headquarters and cry out in sheer frustration: “WHYYYY??”

I think Acnologia got the question very well, but deemed it unworthy of a serious answer.
@OP: I absolutely agree. Everytime it takes me longer to finish an easy JP because the glider popped up unintentionally, I am longing for an option to deactivate gliding. Alternatively, they could deactivate it in all JP areas.
To be fair, gw1 had a tech level similar to somewhere between 11th century and 14th century europe. Two hundred years later europeans did not have helecopters, machineguns, tanks, autocannon, etc.
+1 That, too.
But like I said, my complaint is not about the differences between GW1 and GW2. Still, thank for making a valid point there. The devs use “the Asuran genius” and “magic” as an excuse to explain their radical changes within the past year, which I find pretty pitiful, to be honest. It’s like young designers, who happen to be high-fantasy fans (or fans of modern/futuristic settings), have taken over the game.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
I really like it as it is. I don’t understand why other people don’t.
Are you being sarcastic? Because if you are not, I seriously question your taste.
I hate to break it to you, but that candelabra can in no way be looked upon as a “weapon”. It is piece of room decoration, not a weapon. Sure, there are other designs that can’t be considered weapons and are merely created to be funny (like the Improvised Weapon set), but those aren’t legendaries!
IMO, there are way too many legendary weapon designs that are meant to be funny (disco balls, meteorological equipment, aquariums, ships, etc.), and those are not skins to wear with serious pride but in (good) fun. You have to be a somewhat “easily amused” type of character to actually consider those worthy of the legendary status (and worth your time, effort and resources as well).

Honestly, I don’t know. I’m waiting to see what Episode 6 brings to the table in terms of its story before I even consider getting Expac 2. So far though, based on the story we’ve got so far from Living World Season 3, I’m not impressed enough to warrant buying Expac 2.
Hoping Episode 6 will prove me wrong but I highly doubt it.
+1
I’m on the same boat. Just yesterday, I created a new character to unlock the personal story achievements for the Charr race, and wandering the “old” maps made me realize how far off the devs have moved from the game’s original concept (story- and design-wise). It saddens me, it is no fun at the moment.
Sure, I grind the new maps like everyone else, but I don’t feel it anymore, that feeling that was connecting me to Tyria (its lore and everything else) since 2004.
GW1 was 200 years in the past.
Earth looks like science fiction compared to 200 years ago too.
I am not complaining about the differences between GW1 and GW2.
Please read through my previous posts more carefully. What I am complaining about is the recent developments within GW2.
I saw that a couple of days ago and was highly amused. It’s only one of many bugs with the map in terms of walkable spaces.
Every race has been scaled properly to fit the screen about the same size, except Charrs. They fill up so much space that you can’t even see parts of their head armor. They look like giants.
Dear Anet, could you please reduce their display size by at least 15-20%? Thank you. (P.S. I am certain that I am not the first one complaining, so why hasn’t anything been done yet?)
.
.
.
For instance, my Norn looks only slightly taller than a human and a whole lot shorter than the Charr. I don’t know about that.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Shared inventory slots are already available in the gem store and gathering tools already can be placed in them.
But you can’t use them from there, so it isn’t a convenient “solution” at all.
Also, this page should help: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/
GW2 has a “high fantasy” theme, always did. And with a touch of the Steampunk/Magitech.
You said it yourself: A touch. The complaint is about it having taken over and destroying the part oldtimers like me loved dearly about the game.
Do remember that the Humans first took Ascalon from the Charr to begin with, so by that logic it’s Charr’s by right of first claim.
That is correct, but cats being all into metal is just another ridiculous implementation. Their architechtures look awful and displaced in a fantasy world IMO.
Then again, I’ll take that over the whole computer high-tech crap anytime. By the looks of the leaked material for Expansion Pack 2, many of the new elite specializations (and with them most likely new armor sets as well) look totally high-tech as well. Bye-bye, classic Guild Wars, you will be missed.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Don’t you think it’s too late for making suggestions when the new elite specializations have already been worked out?
Map
- layout too complex
- beautiful environment design
- boring fauna (the term “recycling” comes to mind)
Story
- too much high-tech (Taimi does all the work/discoveries and solutions = boring)
- ridiculous Balthazar revelation, plain awful
- too short
- Druids and Inquest are a nice touch
- M.O.X. <3
Oakheart Essence
- nice idea, fun
- however, means of travel that are not walking are getting to much focus and out of hand
Legendary Armor
- terrible, too futuristic
- ugly designs, especially the spikes
- sexist female light version (shows, once again, too much skin instead of something elegant with class)
Legendary Torch
- …no comment (ack)
Houndskin Mantle
- finally a cool skin, the first one in ages!
I’m feeling that the medium armor main peeps would enjoy designs like these…
Absolutely not. More futuristic nonsense? Please nooooo…
Have you ever read a classic fantasy novel, played classic fantasy RPGs, played GW1, know what classic fantasy means? That is what most oldtime players want, not some modern anime or Marvel cartoon nonsense that only youngsters find appealing. That has no place in a game like GW.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Hmm, I dunno. I think the latest map is pretty awesome, visually.
Jungle maps don’t count. It’s not what any of us was referring to. We were talking about armor, weapons, buildings, and the general increase of futuristic technology. The recent story had plenty of that AGAIN as well, hence my previous comment:
[…] This mix of high-tech, magic, dragons and weirdly changed gods (all being interconnected) doesn’t sit well with me. I want my beloved GW back.
unfortunately when you have 25-50 ppl sitting on the spot with 0 indication of who presses the button it would be impossible to guess who did it. My guild leader has tons of patience, but the rest of us can get very impatient, when people are trying to do this together as a full party and redoing it several times.
Use TeamSpeak. An officer annouces go-time, until then no one moves, everyone waits several steps away from the mark. If someone moves in alone, you will see.
It’s fairly easy done solo on a Guardian (preferably an Asura, so you see more of your environment and can evade better).
Guardian, because of the auto-block trait.
Now all you have to do is remain airborne, don’t land! That helps. Descend to the first destroyer level, stay in the air, use the Special Action Key quickly on the device to trigger a charge out of it, catch it, then use the Special Action Key to release one of the locks. Repeat twice. Avoiding the green missiles should be fairly easy on this level.
Now descent to the second (last) destroyer level. Again, avoid landing at all costs. Just be quick. This time, you only need to release one of the locks, then all destroyers will vanish. Release the other two, descent to Balthazar and receive the achievement.

I don’t think there are any new cats to be found. Just M.O.X. (the Golem from GW1) can now be found in the Home Instance speaking about cats.
Ohhhh… I didn’t notice! Will have to check in again. How could I miss my M.O.X.y?
Edit: Just checked, I love it! M.O.X. now is a cat-sitter, a Zinn fan, and a juke box (some GW1 tunes <3, awwww, I miss the dwarves so much ), all in one.
I would have preferred, though, to see him upgraded to Taimi’s new personal golem.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
I must have missed this new hungry cat. Not even Wiki has it listed yet. Is there a thread somewhere on the details?
P.S. I am not a cat person in RL and would prefer puppies, but hey, you take what you can get.
I maybe got like 5 orchids hitting almost all the orchid nodes last time I farmed them.
Maybe you are overfarming them? There is a daily limit per account, like with any of the other currencies.
So on average every Saturday we (my guildies and I) do all GM’s, but when it comes down to doing Trek… either someone trolls, or simply does NOT want to wait for the guild leaders go ahead and presses the F aka interact button before everyone arrives, and causes everyone to start throwing mud at everyone else.
Is it possible to maybe make it so that ONLY the guild leader, or those assigned permission to interact? I’m not sure if it is a big fix or a small fix, but this alone would stop people from freaking out on average.
Thank you.
Ok… ok maybe this wont break friendships, but it does heat heads. Trolling 2-3-etc treks can frustrate a lot of people waiting for those who unfortunately take forever to load the maps.
Honestly, I would throw such people right out of my guild. If they can’t be social but act all childish and egoist like that, it’s “Bye-bye, find yourself a guild suited for your age/maturity level.” As simple as that.
Visible jewellery on characters wouldn’t be feasible/possible
I would be okay if at least we could choose the skin. “What is that good for?”, you might ask. Well, first of all it would be “pingable” in text chat, but more importantly, I could enjoy the look of the item personally and, most importantly, distriguish quicker between different sets when I change builds.^
^) With the LWS3 trinkets, I am having trouble at times and it takes longer to equip the right ones, even though I usually know where in my equipment to look for which set, but still, I always double-check to avoid any mistake.
@OP: YES, dyeable weapons! <3 It would be sooooo cool, especially with color effects on legendaries like Nevermore (I’d prefer forest green instead of sky blue for my Druid).
Just a few ideas about the next elite specs we are getting.
I’m afraid they’ve already settled with these (and again, some look out of place, too futuristic/almost sci-fi like the elementalist, while some look okay):
Went full-generic-Asian RPG especially with all the overdone particle effects and silly weapons/armor and I’m honestly disappointed. It’s no longer got that great rustic feel.
This. The term “rustic” describes it perfectly. It’s what a classic RPG should look like <3 and what GW did look like until they launched this new design agenda.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
i think they have kind of shifted too far towards the fantastic recently. whether its the magic or the science, almost everything is radical and over the top. A bit of that is ok, but it seems out of balance now, to the point that they have lost a bit of the wow factor
Agreed.
I don’t mind the Asura with their technology, but I liked that better in GW1 where there were only (more “archaic” looking) golems and a lot of mechanical tinkering. Now we have high-tech computer systems running on magic. It’s ridiculous and feels “loveless”. There is no more heart to it.
This mix of high-tech, magic, dragons and weirdly changed gods (all being interconnected) doesn’t sit well with me. I want my beloved GW back.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
I just started a Charr character to get the hero story achievements (not a fan of the Charr being a playable race, really) and was strolling the lands of Ascalon.
One mission leads to the Ruins of Rin area within the Black Citadel, and even though I have been there multiple times in the past, my heart sinks each and ever single time I wander the beautiful autumn trees, the cobblestone paved remains of Ascalon’s roads and the old walls. I miss those classic GW designs so much!
What is it with the increasing amount of sci-fi and high-tech designs the design team has been pushing down my throat as of late? Buildings, weapons, armor, utilities etc.
I am playing this game for its genre, which is fantasy not mecha-tech or sci-fi. Please, have a heart and return to the roots and very heart of GW. Don’t let it glide into some futuristic “modern age”.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Can it be done cumulatively? I’m at 10/12, I gave up after 10-15 minutes of circling at various levels didn’t get me the last two. I’m hoping that when I do the final instance on my second LS alt I can just tag two more orbs.
Try this, it has a map which indicates the orbs’ positions — you just have to check on different heights:
http://dulfy.net/2017/05/04/gw-flashpoint-living-world-achievements-guide/#Excess_Energy_3_AP
Never heard of it nor seen any sign of it, and I’ve already done 100% map exploration and 100% story on two characters.
I hope there will be a patch soon. It makes the map somewhat unplayable, or at least very inconvenient to play.
Oh gee….1 bad game….Matchmaking definitely has to be broken.
Stop talking down to others just because you don’t agree. Not only is everyone entitled to their opinion, but — most importantly — the OP has a valid point there.
The fact that PvP is mainly unbalanced due to a completely awful team balance (i.e., the 100% random constallation of teams) cannot be denied, and that leads to people losing (interest, especially with the puny rewards this season).
You are basically forced to train every profession in PvP so that you can switch to another character when you see the match is doomed for your team before it has even started. This is a joke, and I am not laughing. As the screenshot shows, one Necro and one Engineer should have been swapped and we would have had a perfectly balanced match with the better coordinated team winning.
With this imbalance plus the crippled new reward system, most casual PvP players have quit playing or only poke their nose in every once in a while, which has also resulted in longer waiting times.
And it happened again, this time at another spot, on my way to Zinn’s Recording #9.
I aimed at the cave where the recording is located, and during the catapulting into it with the Oakheart skill, I got stuck in the rock texture once more.
Please fix that skill, this is the third time in four days this has happened to me! (And others have complained in map chat as well, in different locations…)
P.S. Is just made a Wasp miraculously vanish into thin air by accidentally hitting it with the Oakheart skill. Looks like this skill requires a lot of repairs.
Edit: Oh, just got stuck again in the wall by the entrance to said cave. I am considering giving up.
Edit #2: Just now, I died, because of the bug where you can’t enter fly/glide mode after using the Oakheart skill, thus doing an endless salto downwards, vertically, until you hit the groud.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
I wasn’t sure whether the devs read the Account & Technical Support subforum, so I decided to post this in here.
I find it a bit of an annoyance that when you select the Replay option, then Quit the story chapter, it is indicated in green (as “unfinished”) and certain purple markers remain on the maps, even though you have already completed the whole chapter.
I am still getting the purple indicators for LWS3 E5 on two characters, even though I only reactivated it to do the bonus story mission achievements. Now that I am done and Quit the Chapter, it is still showing me the markers AND I am having this whole chapter marked as unfinished, that means in green, in my Story Journal.
So, please, can you finally implement a Quit options that removes the green indicator and the purple markers? Please?
And yet again someone gets stuck in a rock structure when using the Oakheart Essence’s skill on it. My poor little Asura.
Please fix!
1. If you log into the game during the release of a Living World episode, you automatically get it for free. Check your Hero Panel’s “Story Journal” tab (the one with the star symbol) to see which ones you already have. Season One is not available because it wasn’t instanced like Season Two and Three, but delivered in the form of temporary live events (you can check out on its plot by visiting the story-telling NPC in Lion’s Arch by the beach — you have to activate it in your Story Journal first, though; for more S2 info watch the ~3 hour movie summary on YouTube).
2. You can buy a whole Season also for real money instead of gems, simply by logging into your account here on www.guildwars2.com > Store.
I already posted on here (see quote), but now have to add my latest addition: the WvW armor for my Asuran Guardian. Now there’s some truly legendary looking armor ©Ashantara Edition!
Hey, cool thread!
Pretty much all of my characters’ armor sets are mixed ones. I created a quick collage of them for you guys.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Are they worse than “Not so Secret”?
Yes.
Some JPs are just evil, and people who aren’t crazy would just ignore tham at all.
Thanks for the compliment. I wholeheartedly used to enjoy the challenge of any JP, but that was before LWS3.
Ah, did I mention the diving goggles achievement in “Not so Secret”?
That one was indeed crazy, especially since the ceiling is semi-permeable. Who had that stroke of genius?
You will not reach the farmhands though, because nobody checks the chat while trying to land as many AoEs on Centaurs as possible while running through them like crazy.
Ahhhh, now I finally got it! (click) You were referring to the leather farmers in the North-East of the map. (ding-ding-ding) D’uh!
Edit: If that’s really as common as all of you claim, and I believe you, then why is leather still this expensive?
They let their minions kill mobs and have auto-loot enabled. It’s slow, but you only have to take a look at the screen every once in a while. So for them, it’s idle time they use to get something, which is better than nothing. They are not there for the berries.
That makes sense. Maybe they need to reduce the spawn rate at the nodes then.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
(Says the person who discovered it by accident because she got into the zone and immediately decided to swim around the Boiling Sea. In retrospect the name should have been a hint.)
LOL!
Well, at least you two got the achievement early on.
[…]
Further to this, there’s points of interest that are just not viewable on the map. Burial Chamber and Zeta Vault are two such PoI’s. In fact, Zeta Vault and Druid’s Grotto fall in between two layers of the map, so that’s not really fighting fair, Anet.
You had a good thing going before gliding was introduced, now you somehow feel the need to exploit it to the N’th degree. […]
I made the same complaint just the other day. While I enjoy the new means of travel (gliding, ley-lines, mushrooms, tubes, oakheart), I don’t find it particularly appealing nor impressive to make any of those the main means of travel while walking seems to have become the exception (even story missions now require gliding).
It has grown to a point where I would say this has become a major annoyance for old school players; “old” by the means of GW play time and players’ age, as IMO only youngsters can enjoy seeing a classic RPG being turned into a platformer (hint: this is still Guild Wars, not Donkey Kong).
@OP: “Reunion” of Dragon’s Watch? That group never really started out in the first place to even be considered a union.
So there is nobody on the map to complete the events/complete achievements and everything else.
Please do something about the exploiters on LAKE DORIC TODAY!
Okay, I last played Lake Doric two weeks into its release, so I haven’t encountered any farmers myself, but here is my suggestion:
Open a LFG (preferably a squad) and advertise also in map chat that you need people for an event/achievement. Since I am certain that you are not the only one suffering under the situation, you should find people to team up with in no time.
P.S. There are AFK farmers in Bitterfrost as well. I am always wondering how that works, since you cannot collect berries from the bushes if you are AFK. Someone enlighten me, please?
Much like you can jump though the poison in SAB, you can avoid all (or most) applications by jumping out at just the right timing.
Exactly, and I find it fairly simple to time. I was truly amused when I discovered this on the first day while people kept complaining about dying in the water.
Yes, definitely. Maybe I’ll make a video of it.
You should be able to use the submarine at the Rata Sum port indefinitely once you have already used it on that char.
I see it as unhealthy as well. As a lesbian, I am getting a bad aftertaste over the way the two talk to one another, because it is so cliché, much like in many novels, television shows and movies. First we got the exaggerated sweet talk, to an extent that made me cringe, now the two are behaving like they don’t have much left to say to one another.
Then again, most relationships in Guild Wars where there is love involved (be it one-sided or mutual) seem to end in sadness or big drama (even back in GW1, see Rurik and Lady Althea, for instance), so I wouldn’t be surprised if those two split up as well or one of them died. Which would make me very sad, because I would love to see the portrayal of a healthy, lasting, drama-free relationship for a change.
Whoever thought to make access to Mons Draconis so difficult is stupid.
Tell that to the person who just complained in map chat that she/he got hit with the huge Balthazar spoiler when she/he joined the map via Teleport to Friend.
Hello guys,
So, I just discovered that you can use the game’s jumping mechanics to avoid dying in the strong currents of the Draconis Mons waters.
All you need to do is keep to the surface and spam the Space key while “jumping” all the way to safe land. I felt like Jesus walking on water.
Dying in water isn’t too fun either.
But you can circumvent dying in those wild waters!
I’ll open a thread on that right away, keep an eye out for it.
Any other reaction would have been poor writing.
I disagree. Who do you love more, your partner in life or some God you neither worship nor have shown much attachment to (as a Mesmer she is probably more fond of the likes of Lyssa)? I found it absolutely crazy that she left instead of accompanying Marjory to “hospital”.
It felt like there was a much graver issue at hand than merely being in shock. Maybe it has to do with her and Anise’s secret journey that we will probably learn more about in the next episode (I hope!).
Oh, for us “fans” of the Balthazar storyline: I just discovered (while doing the “People Watching” achievement) that B. also brought the Inquest to Draconis Mons.
I’ll spell it out for you: The former God of War has sunken to a level as low as to join forces with the Inquest. The Inquest! (ouch)
