While farming some ascended gear it has come to my attention that only the trinkets from bloodstone fen have a reset item. I would really love to see an item similar to this for the other Living Story 3 maps.

Ditto.

I believe the Devs may have addressed this in the latest AMA.

Oh? Will check that out right away.

Charr credibility

Ashantara.8731

Maybe I just have lower standards for this stuff? I’ve played a lot of RPGs so I’ve gotten used to tailoring the character to the game rather than expecting the developers to have known and accommodated how I envisaged my character speaking and acting while they were developing the game.

It is not what I envisioned but what the game, its personal story missions, the race’s capitals and Tyrian lore (all created by the devs), had taught me about the races! Then they nihilated all that by making the PC dialogues and reactions “uni-race”.

It frustrates me when the game contradicts itself (like the earlier example of an Ash Legion charr going in the Order of Whispers), but if how I envisaged my character doesn’t fit the game that just means it’s time to change the character.

So everyone practically needs to play humans only.

Question about the device

Ashantara.8731

Sorry, we had no such advantage when we killed Zhaitan.

We had the pact, the airship fleet, we had the knowledge of what to do to make Zhaitan weak (we killed his eyes and mouth) and we had the Asura tech which was ultimately what killed him.

The end of the Zhaitan fight was certainly better than others. Usually the Commander is the one who fights the bosses. In that fight we simply helped protect Zojja. So I agree about that one fight.

Hm? Zojja did not participate in the fight against Mordremoth at all. She was still weakened and unconscious from Mordremoth trying to transform her into a Mordrem (and partially succeeded by creating those awful clones of her). We were commanding Pact Soldiers who helped us defeat Mordremoth, Zojja was nowhere near that event. The annoying high-pitched Asuran voice you hear (“No need, we got it, it’s dying!”) is one of the Pact Soldiers, not Zojja.

I was asking myself the same question, but in regard of the skin.

If you must wear that, I would suggest you take better screenshots so that people can see all the details and then judge. I am not a fan of all that “glow” you are wearing (including the backpack), but the second version has such bad lighting that the colors do look muddy indeed.

I seem to be stuck at Personal Fractal Lvl 66 for a year now.

I have already contacted support, but all I am getting are “theories” (as in “wild guesses”) about how I need to complete each fractal level in order to advance, or that it might be due to possible changes implemented with the release of HoT.

As I told them already:

  • I did not start playing Fractals until months after the release of HoT.
  • I have already played many tier 4 Fractals with friends (even #100), but it didn’t increase my PSL.
  • Screenshot of the status quo attached. Maybe a dev can help me out since support seems to be clueless in this case?

For everyone who is attempting to re-install their graphics driver: Do a clean uninstall first using Display Driver Uninstaller. It is the only program to ensure everything gets removed properly and that there are no remains of the former installation, neither in your files nor in the registry.

I wont recommend to ever use this program,it has bricked my pc a long time ago where after the driver uninstall i got greeted with blue screens everytime i rebooted. had to reinstall windows from scratch.

Manually uninstall it,CCleaner after to clean the registry.

I am sorry you had that experience, but millions of other users, including myself, will vouch for the quality of this program.

Either you did not configure the tool properly, or you didn’t install the latest version before using it (as with each new driver update there is a new version that is suited for the latest driver uninstalls).

CCleaner does not always delete everything in the registry if the system falsely believes it to be a required entry, and it certainly does not delete obsolete folders on your disk. There is no better graphics driver “cleaner” than DDU.

GW1 Player Character Vs. GW2 Player Character

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

definitely GW1, having access to 2 professions and some crazy synergies allowed for some pretty kitten crazy characters,
like 55 hp monks who were INVINCIBLE without disenchantment,
or perma shadowform assassins who were utterly unattackable,
GW1 trap rangers could place 20 traps in one spot, stepping on it means instant death,
a GW1 Edge of Extinction ranger in GW2s WvW would kill everyone,

GW1 minion masters could have their own personal army of minions and wash over enemies, until later in the games life there was no minion cap, instead minions had health degeneration, but with the right build you could negate it and keep your army alive.

Gw2 “Confusion” condi? pff! in GW1 mesmers could bury you under 3-4 “if you attack you take damage” hexes, swing 3 times and you’re dead!

the healers could reduce damage to minute amounts,
while also having huge spammable heals.

each GW1 class would utterly destroy their GW2 shadows.

i am assuming for the sake of argument that health pools and damage are percentages since GW1 used different numbers.

All that (+1), and also story-wise things felt a lot more epic.

So yeah, the GW1 hero wins.

Charr credibility

in Lore

Ashantara.8731

Yeah, I don’t mind the change. He started out typical Charr-like, as the story progressed he was exposed to things well beyond the concerns of just Charr, same as any other PC hero. As a result his outlook grows beyond the specific concerns of his home race.

Obviously, some don’t get my actual point: it’s all about the tone, i.e. the wording and voice acting (I thought my last few posts had made that very clear). A Charr responds a lot rougher, not like a softie.

Speaking of the childish lines my Charr babbles when fighting, I had to deactivate player chatter. Norn and Charr both sound equally ridiculous, both in regard of text as well as pronunciation — female Norn saying stuff like “Might makes me right!” is beyond funny (unfortunately I cannot deactivate their fighting noises which sound like noise one would only make in one’s own bedroom, if you catch my drift), and the texts for both race’s player chatter in general sound like out of a bad Marvel comic/cartoon/movie.

Don’t those proud fighter races deserve better than being reduced to jokes? It is funny when an Asura (a somewhat cute race) says something like “I feel six feet tall!”, or when a human states a pesudo-cool “Armored up!”, but for a Norn or a Charr to say childish stuff is beyond my comprehension.

TBH you really shouldn’t be expecting much in terms of the story regarding your character

I get that, but they could have at least done something about their dialogue.

Returning player in need of help

Ashantara.8731

Hello, I have recently decided to come back to guild wars 2.
I need help with choosing a class that is good at doing all the map events and soloing in Heart of Thorns.

Ranger, without a doubt. Versatile, high DPS, long survivability due to the pet tanking, also quite fast on their feet (25% perma-boost with utility skill). Best played Viper’s (high DPS) or Druid (very good healing, also staff skill that makes for an easy escape if you don’t want to fight through a map but only explore).

Also recommendable is Guardian, good self-heal and self-defense (protection, block), excellent mobility, good damage.

Feel for the Charr in GW1? I don’t know what game you played, but the one I played had them portrayed as wild, zealot beasts serving some fake flame gods. There was nothing to sympathize with, you were supposed to hate them.

Anything about their “real” culture (as in “Not the Charrs that we saw attacking Ascalon, but the civilized ones far, far away”) we learnt very late into the game (it had been out for years at the time). It felt like it was made up out of thin air in order to have a good explanation why “a cool cat-beast race” would become a playable one in GW2.

I felt much more for the Centaurs, whom I would have loved to see as a playable race in GW2.

For those circumstances where it won’t work for a character, the simplest solution is to rewrite what is said and done to close fit with the decisions of your character but within the limits of the story.

Well… would it have been such a problem for the devs to alter text with the same content in ways that made it sound race-conform? You can say something that leads to the same result in a million ways, and a Charr would say them in a rough, warrior-minded manner rather than sounding like an empathic psychologist, no?

I think it goes some Charr are permitted to leave the legions permanently, and not be labeled gladum.

I mean, other Charr left and joined the orders (one being a founder) or don’t deal with the black citadel anymore.

I assume the rules and laws laxed a bit over time, especially after the treaty.

That might be the case, but it is still no explanation for the complete “cuddly-wuddly” out-of-character behavior of Charr player characters beyond the Personal Story Chapters.

Meh. Heroes were one of the things I didn’t like about GW1. It was boring running around with a bunch of NPCs. I play MMORPGs mostly because of the MMO part.

GW1 wasn’t an MMO. It was an Online Action RPG, unlike GW2. So yes, in GW2 having henchmen would kill the MMO-purpose of the whole game. (I wouldn’t mind the option for some content, though, like dungeons.)

well yea, in gw1 they were supporting characters with profound and deep lore
but in gw2 all were playable, so all races had to be watered down a 3.5% beer with little flavor in order for them to fit universally in a single story line.

Yes, I understand that, and it’s exactly what I am criticizing: there could have been race-specific modifications to the dialogue in order to better reflect and represent that race’s agenda towards the outside world as well as their inherited morale understanding and their cultural manners.

P.S. Doing it in a similar fashion as all Norn NPCs, who are frequently yelling “Ja!” at the end of each sentence, is not what I meant, because that is just ridiculous as nobody talks like that. Nope, neither Skandinavians nor us German speaking folk do that, but I know it’s a silly American cliché about our languages.

I personally like the Charr integration in GW2, they feel like they have a nice range of examples of the race to show different facets. I completely agree with the Norn, they really need their culture to be presented more. They are so plain and boring in GW2.

Uhm, you like how your Charr PC talks like a softie human in most of the dialogue? How is that “authentic” and “showing facets of their cultural demeanor”?

If you don’t believe me here’s the GW1 wiki’s article on the charr from shortly before Eye of the North was released: https://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Charr&oldid=125363

And this is why I was opposed to the Charr becoming a playable race. I only changed my mind last week, when I created one and discovered it was kind of fun to play the GW2 version of a Charr.

Is it just me who feels like the writers failed miserably in implementing Charr (and in some cases even Norn) player characters propely into the story? I already didn’t enjoy much playing my Norn’s personal story, for it felt too two-dimensional and very underdeveloped, and didn’t truly translate the feeling of being Norn into the plot.

Now that I started a Charr, I feel even more let down. While the character was still behaving like a true Charr during the personal story, he lost his edge, all that makes him Charr, once he transcended on to the general story path.

I got the same dialogues like when I was playing through that part of the story with a Human or Asuran character. However, a Charr would never behave like that, acting and talking like a compassionate, tender-hearted, empathic human. Where is the spark, the roughness, the edge and pride that is typical for that race?

I wonder…

It’s like the writers’ interest stopped at some point.

What is it with the increasing amount of sci-fi and high-tech designs the design team has been pushing down my throat as of late? Buildings, weapons, armor, utilities etc.

Well the world advanced 250 years. Magitech is everywhere. For science!

It’s already been said multiple times in this thread that that’s just a lame excuse and poor attempt to explain this nonsense, as it makes no sense whatsoever.

The GW1 setting was something like 14th or 15th century Earth, so add 250 years to that and then tell me again that in the 17th/18th century we had choppers, machine guns, alien-movie type of armor and the like…

I am of the opinion that Anet does need to cool it with the Asura Magi-tech. Seems like EVERYTHING is solved with Asura magi-tech, and it kind of diminishes the other races importance. And its too little magic, too much tech, at least ascetically. You can say its “magic” all you want but its going to be off putting to be using a sword or a bow on what feels like the set of a B science fiction show.

Its all just not been handled properly.

This.

Imagine if GW2 was a TV show – this would be the episode before the mid-season finale – we’ve had all of the build-up and almost no explanations. […]

I was just being polite when I called it “confusing”, for posts tend to get deleted when people speak their actual mind, and in this case it would have been nothing nice.

If this was a tv show’s mid-season finale, I would continue watching after hiatus just to see how the writers are going to pull their heads out of this huge pile of ****. And that’s exactly what I am going to do in the case of GW2: I am hoping for the best, but fearing the worst.

Question about the device

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Ok i have been having a really hard time believing the story lines since HOT.

Zhaitan ok i get that we killed a Elder dragon after years of work and slowly starving him and using incredibly powerful weapons. I believe after that fight Trahearne said something like we “lost most of the pact” which to me is over 50% of our armed forces.

Completely believable as much as the world doesnt show the effects of the Zhaitan fight.

The morde saga was horrible and ill just skip it.

Now we just had a new episode and my question becomes how is Taimi making this machine that kills 2 elder dragons at the same time?

She makes comments like “even i dont know how it works”, what?

I dont know if im the commander anymore or if the commander is just some character i control but we are now fighting gods and just rushing into it alone?

I am seriously so confused on the lily pads we jumped here. We keep running into magical beings who just give us the answers to things. Like rata novus in morde saga, Trahearne can help us kill morde ……… and now Tami made a machine that can kill both dragons by ???

When we first went to some of the new maps like Ember Bay people were dying like Taimis assistant.

I would just like some answers on how we are still pushing forward so strongly and running into all these beings that just help us out of no where.

My biggest question is what makes the magic we are using to kill 2 elder dragons at the same time? If we have this ability how is it that Balth can come right into our Lab, shut down or Way Point, teleport it to a new area, where i get into a volcano where Taimi magically appears?

If anyone could share i would love to see/read the parts im missing.

All I can give you for an “answer” is a big +1.

Welcome to the world of credibility the writers have lost in my eyes as well.

1. [… ] Having the delay before it even casts complicates using this skill, especially while flying. By the time it fires, you’re no longer where you were when you started it.

I wholeheartedly agree with this! I often bump into a ledge and then fall simply because of this delay (and no longer having a straight line of target by the time it fires).

2. The leap it does as it pulls you towards the target is a double-edged sword. If you’re on the ground, using the vine to accelerate forward, it’s great for getting over uneven terrain. But if you’re trying to navigate in tight spaces, like the jp or trying to collect the fire-stones, it throws you up to the ceiling, stops you in mid-air and drops you to the ground far from your intended target […]

+1 to this part, but I am not a fan of the idea of having a second skill, as I have #1 shortcut to MB 5 so I can use it quickly. Having a second skill would slow things down for me.

3. It fails intermittently – sometimes even if there’s no obstacles to impede you, it aborts in mid-pull and drops you. […] This would be an acceptable risk of using it if only the other bugs didn’t happen.

+1

4. Replacing our weapon skills is also frustrating. The joy of using this mechanic is undeniably in feeling like the web-slinger, moving through the environment smoothly. That feeling of flow is interrupted whenever you have to stop, drop the vine, fight something then go-and-find-another-vine!

+1. It would also solve this issue if they made it the Special Action Key.

LOL, I’m afraid so!

If you’d be comparing gw1 and gw2 i would understand. But gw2 always was very high tech in my opinion.

I think there is yet another misunderstanding here. It’s all about the design. There are “high-tech” things that are designed to fit into the world (airships being one of them), and then there are things, items, that look totally like out of a sci-fi movie (some recent armor sets, the Dominator weapons, Asuran “computer panels” etc.).

This thread is all about the designs that don’t fit, not the technology per se. Stuff needs to blend in, not destroy the beauty of what we have known and loved as Tyria. Some more classic designs are in order.

That still doesn’t answer any of the important questions I posed in regard of who the surrounding orbs in the EA’s model are, what the dragons actually are, and how the Gods fit into any of this. Your response only answers a tiny part, but not the important big questions that would put logic into the current chaotic pseudo-logic provided to us by the writers.

[spoilers] Dragons + Eternal Alchemy = logic?

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Okay, let me sum things up, and please correct me if I got something wrong:

  • The Eternal Alchemy’s structure, as displayed to us, is defined by the realm of life (i.e., Tyria and any other possibly existing worlds/planets) in its center, surrounded by all the other orbs, which represent the dragons (?).
  • We defeated Zhaitan and Mordremoth, and then discovered that, everytime we kill a dragon, the others absorb its powers.
  • Taimi’s ancient apparatus, which she modified, was supposed to kill Primordus and Jormag by “letting their powers clash” and thereby cancelling one another out, correct?
  • Then Taimi discovers that, by doing so, the Eternal Alchemy would become unstable and implode, thus killing all life.

I don’t understand the logic in any of this.

  1. Why didn’t the world collapse when we killed Zhaitan and Mordremoth? By said logic we would already have screwed up the Eternal Alchemy. Is it just the method that Taimi intended to use that would have led to the world’s destruction? If so, that means we can still try to defeat Primordus and Jormag by natural means, i.e. by killing them in combat, right?
  2. I always assumed the surrounding orbs in the Eternal Alchemy’s model were the Gods, not the dragons. So which one is it? How can the dragons be those “orbs” when they are located in our world, not in “space” (i.e., other realms beyond our realm of existence)? I mean, the Gods made sense since their “physical presence” on Tyria was provided by them “visiting” our world in the form of avatars, which is not the same as with the dragons (unless the dragons are Gods, too, like the “corrupted part of the patheon”; but then killing them physically, like we did with Z and M, wouldn’t be possible at all).

Someone enlighten me and put some logic in the seemingly illogical developments we were presented with in LWS3.

At this point, I have no expectations whatsoever, as this last episode took a direction that was crazy and badly executed. I’ll take whatever may come and then decide whether I want to continue playing this game that I no longer recognize in some regards.

Druid's Essence in Inquest Camp

The Druid’s Essences in the Inquest camp (that is Rata Arcanum) activate automatically, without me giving the command to touch it.

Not just there but everywhere. When you walk across them in a certain angle and at a certain pace, you equip them automatically, which is indeed annoying.

Are you talking about the Holosmith? Cause that’s Engineer. Elementalist is not with these pictures.

I already mentioned in my previous post that I mismatched the colors.

Well, they are designed around Industrial Revolution/more modern combat systems. The Thief uses Rifles, and the Revenant’s legend is strongly connected to the revolution that turned warfare from Swords+Spells to Guns+Cannons in Ascalon.

As both are still in use, the term “industrial revolution” doesn’t necessarily fit (as compared to our world). I don’t mind steam punk elements, but that is not the same as using sci-fi looking designs for weapons and armor, no? The game is too high-tech at its current state, with all the recent sci-fi skins and the constant use of Asuran “computers”

Story Journal request!

Yes, it was a bug, because after the latest patch the markers were gone. ^^

Furthermore, I am stupid as I just realized that the green entries in the Story Journal don’t mean “active” but are indicating the section belongs to HoT. (head—>desk) They should add a red background color to the Original Campaign sections.

@Sartharina: You are right, I confused the colors.

I find quite a few of the drawings somewhat rather high-tech looking armor/design-wise (the Thief and the Revenant in particular) and by name (“Holosmith”, “Deadeye”,… while “Soulbeast” sounds like a Marvel superhero cartoon).
