You forgot 3 options:

  • I do not have a preference
  • They -=ALL=- suck
    and
  • Who cares? I won’t know until I can actually PLAY THEM?

I prefer #3 on my list….

You have to be hyped about at least one of them so far, unless you strictly play one class in the base game.

No.

It is entirely possible to not be hyped about any of them even if one plays more than one class.

It’s not flaunting, although like you and I said, it’s just a percentage off, that’s still money that me, or someone in the future spent extra to go the extra mile. I realize you guys probably find it dumb, but, consider it like a founder’s title. Or a veteran’s title, this would merely pose as a “Ultimate” title. Or maybe add a hint of humor in it, such as “Deep Pockets” or “Supporter”. I’m not trying to demand something, I am just saying, it would be nice to have something to give it more pizazz.

Even the most expensive version of HoT coss far less than some people have spent on the game. Why do you think you should be heralded above them?

Why not just add a 50% (debatable number) reduction to all damage done against other players. Since this game doesn’t have dedicated healers, there won’t be much problems with “unkillable” characters, maybe only some regen-builds.. but it’s easy to balance.

Maybe also -20% crit chance against players.

How hard would it be to kill Bunker characters with those modifications ?

Orr should be remade

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashen.2907

Nature abhors a vacuum. With Orr cleansed so that the undead become fewer and fewer, but the pact races are focusing most of their attention elsewhere, I could imagine an aggressive race like the Krait taking advantage of the power vacuun to expand their domain into Orr.

Keep the original Orr as it is but add instanced missions set in a recovering Orr where heroes are called upon to defend the brave (or foolhardy) settlers and frontiersfolk from the depredations of the Krait and even those remnants of the undead horde powerful enough to have survived the cleansing.

Ultimately a cleansed, safe, and peaceful Orr is a bad idea in a game centered around adventure and fighting evil. The existing Orr is large, detailed, and intricate in its options for adventure. Throwing it away, or hiding it in the LS would be wasteful. Adding to the game, in the form of vignettes that tell of the ongoing struggle for life and civilization in the aftermath of the cleansing, gives the sense of progression of story needed for a living world without wasting resources by discarding existing content or rebuilding a variant of an entire existing zone to show that plants can grow there again.

Ashen.2907

Defensive play has, in addition to stats such as vitality, toughness, and healing, player controlled 100% damage mitigation in the form of mobility, positioning, block, blind, and dodging. Then there is less absolute player controlled damage mitigation in the form of protection and weakness. Even immobilization and cripple an be used to mitigate a foes damage.

None of these directly increase one’s damage output (of course staying alive is an indirect increase in potential damage output).

Value is completely subjective.

Of course it is. And it is that subjective value that forms the basis for any price (after all, people do not tend to buy things they value at less than what they have to pay for it).

Which doesn’t invalidate Roxer’s point in the slightest.

Sure it does. He made a claim to be speaking for how existing players as a whole valued HoT compared to new players as a whole. When you claim to be speaking for others, whom you have not polled, in order to present your own personal subjective value as the norm, a general truth, or an absolute, then you have no supportable point.

For example:

The current pricing model is absolutely fair to all players and provides an immeasurably greater value to existing players than to new even though all players will receive an exceptional value.

Ashen.2907

At the moment the value of the new account with HoT is incomparably bigger than HoT-upgrade for the existing account. This is a major disbalance in what current players get versus the new ones. For many people it’s big enough to delay the purchase of HoT till the price is reduced or more information makes HoT more attractive, I’m sure.

Value is completely subjective. You can only truly speak for yourself when discussing it. Trying to claim to speak for, “current players,” in a non specific all encompassing manner is a fundamental flaw in your argument.

You can’t deny though that a majority of commenters on this forum really dislike it.

I think the event is boring since there is rarely any fights but you can’t say just use the forums and judge it on that seeing as there are tons of people running around in golems..

If the majority of people in wvw hated it you wouldn’t be seeing golems still running around. Now people can go on and say those are all PVE’ers running around in golems, and most may be, but if they are having fun I’m sure they will come back even after the event.

I’ve seen lots of new faces actually asking questions about what builds they should be running around with which makes me think they will be here after this event is over.

I didn’t say ‘use the forums to judge it’ , I said that a majority of posters seem to strongly dislike it.

And I completely disagree about the bringing in new people.
Most will probably either get bored or die very quickly in a normal WvW week if their only experience is running around in a golem k-train.

If you want to get new blood in you need to do something that enhances actual WvW (e.g. better rewards), not a gimmick week that totally perverts normal playing conditions.

Correct you didn’t say that but in a way you are using the forums. I bet the majority of people that liked this event haven’t even come here to post about it.

You can disagree all you want about getting new players but if you accept the new players and show them that you can have fun without golems they will stick around.

I seen several people say pve’ers are the ones running around in golems, which might be true, but let them pve’ers have fun and like I pointed out if you show them fun after the event I’m sure they will stick around.. If you keep looking at them as just “pve’ers” well they sure won’t want to stick around.

Also I don’t mean you as you personally. Just I read other forums as well and the amount of people poking fun at pve’ers isn’t going to keep those pve’ers in wvw.

Farmers dont stick around after the farm has ended. If its being played as if it is a farm then its very likely that is how it is perceived by those doing it.

Main reason it is a farm event is because many have chosen not to defend or upgrade.

It took us a few days of this event for people to get bored and go back to defending and upgrading. We got a wp in our keep after a few days into this event but once people saw that wp, we got one in our keep everyday so far. Maybe its cause the other servers have just given up but we still are at least trying to defend and upgrade our side.

Most would rather k-train during this event and tbh when there are no fights you either k-train or not play.

Right, but if non WvWers are being enticed into WvW for the farm, participating only, or primarily, for the farm, then retaining them in any significant numbers after the farm is over is unlikely.

From what I understand is that people who complain and are dissatisfied about various aspects of the game, are generally dissatisfied with their lives in general.

More than a bit of a stretch there.

“Being dissatisfied with aspects of GW2 means that you are dissatisfied with your life.”

Not really. People who are generally dissatisfied with life in general tend to complain more and be dissatisfied with more then those who are not.

That is not what you claimed. You claimed that being dissatisfied with aspects of GW2 meant that one was dissatisfied with his life.

So yes. generally speaking, being dissatisfied with ones life can lead to dissatisfaction in other areas, including Guild Wars 2.

Again not what you originally claimed. You claimed that being dissatisfied with aspects of GW2 meant that one was dissatisfied with one’s life.

No one here is contesting the idea that if you are unhappy with your life as a whole it may or will influence your opinion of things you interact with (such as a game). What is being contested is your claim that if you are dissatisfied with elements of gw2 you are disatisfied with life in general.

the key word people are missing is “intention” 1.a thing intended; an aim or plan:

If a merchant announces to its customers, whose use of their product is affected by recent changes, that they intend to make bi-weekly adjustments in light of those changes, it would be a good idea to also announce when/if they decide to not follow through on those intentions.

Whenever a serious problem arose, it would take FOREVER to fix. I’m talking about weeks, months or so.

And, you see, many WvWers see golems as such a serious problem – one that hasn’t been addressed not for weeks or months, but for years. And when Anet finally decides to do something about golems (on a wave of stronger and stronger complains), what do they do? A Golem Rush. Are you really that surprised that many of people that wanted golems removed completely or weakened in some way acted as if they got slapped?

Yes these were serious problems but they did not render the game unplayable. The problems I had in Spiral Knights completely ruined a good quarter of the game for everyone. Most of these problems haven’t been fixed, to get money you have to use the same mission because it is the only well paying one, it is exceedingly difficult to get to endgame, it was just chaos. Compared to spiral knights, these problems are child play. Which is saying much.

[/quote]

Without fun it isnt play, its task or work completion. If something renders the game not fun for someone then it has rendered it unplayable for them. Sure they could log in and do work, but they arent playing.

Again, the only one who gets to decide what ruins the fun of a game for a given player is that player. Saying, essentially, “it doesnt ruin the fun for me so you are overreacting if it does for you,” is a bit off in my opinion.

Of course that can lead to mistakes. I prepurchased GW2 without hesitation because of the great value I received from GW1. Now I will wait until after release to decide whether or not HoT is worth my money.

That little thing that you believe people are overreacting to may very well be just the most recent of many little things to impact the player, finally pushing him over the edge.

Regardless, it isn’t overreaction. The only one who gets to decide what matters, and to what degree, to a player is that player. What you find minor or inconsequential might be the one thing that matters most to him.

It is simple, just join with whatever gear you want in any group. You don’t need to wear zerk gear at all even if they ask for it.

I joined many “ZERK ONLY” groups, wearing nothing but soldier gear.100% of the time, The run goes fine.

That is incredibly rude. You expect others to respect the way you want to play but have no respect for other gamers or the way they want to play. So instead of joining a casual group you join a zerker only group without zerker and not only slow down their run but make it harder for them because one person not in zerker can cause a zerker player to be hit more often.

I expect the run to go fine. And it does, 100% of the time whenever I feel like wearing my soldier gear.

I don’t join casual groups because the run is never 100% fine. Usually, it is 40% that is fine.

It might go 100% fine but it definitely got slower and you definitely got carried even if just a little compared to everybody else. If I ever see you in my group its auto-kick for you. People like you are ridiculous. The same type who would cry if you were trying to sPvP or WvW and I kept joining your team with no armor on.

Except, I don’t cry about the zerker meta bullies. I embrace it.

This is more like other spvpers and WvWers cry at me because I play a non-meta build and they die a lot, so then they blame me.

You embrace it by ruining the game for other people. So basically you’re a rude jerk.
The irony and hypocrisy of screwing over other people who want to play their own way so that you can play your own way is just painful. This thread is going nowhere because it is full of self-righteous jerks like yourself who feel that because they “play how they want” it justifies kittenting on the playstyles of other people. Setting LFG requirements is acceptable, ignoring them and ruining the groups of those people is not.

How is his play-style not as acceptable as the elitist? Both are “play as you want”.

Do you find something morally wrong with his playstyle? Whats the difference between him ruining a group run and other ruining the run of an individual? People can ban classes, but people can’t join whatever LFG they feel like?

Is his behavior reprehensible to you because you find it offensive?

Surely if ANET disliked his behavior they would have set up the LFG to prevent it.

He is actively seeking out others who are attempting to engage in the meta playstyle that they enjoy in order to negatively impact their enjoyment of the game.

The meta groups are not actively seeking out non meta/casual players for the purpose of preventing them from engaging in the casual/non meta play that they enjoy.

He is seeking out victims upon whom to inflict his will. Meta groups are actively seeking, through the LFG description, to avoid imposing their playstyle on others (please note that meta players who join non meta groups and attempt to impose their playstyle on others are no better).

He is targeting others while they are attempting to avoid imposing upon others.

Why you play PVE?

I play PVE because I enjoy it. Everyone’s definition of “fun” is different, if you have more fun in pvp/wvw then play there:)

Unfortunately, we can’t. Anet has turned WvW into PvE for the week, and it sadly looks like they plan on making WvW permanent PvE Ktrain with the new maps in the expansion.

Here’s a question: How would PvE players feel if PvE land suddenly became PvP-able? If people could just run around and kill you while you’re simply trying to do whatever makes you happy. Now realize that that is exactly how every single WvW player feels right now.

Its really hard to take a claim that you know the feelings of every single person who plays wvw. Claiming to speak for everyone in a given community gives the impression that your own ego interferes with your judgement to the point that your entire position is readily dismissed.

Although he is generalizing in his post, I too am quite upset at the way this week has turned out for the (diminishing) fighting guilds in WvW. This event was most likely a big hit for the PvE crowd (no numbers though), but IMO those of us that enjoyed WvW without the k-train aspect feel like we are being tossed aside in lieu of their golden children.

They ran an event. A limited time event. One perhaps intended to introduce new players to the game mode. It seems unlikely that most will stick, but a few might. In my experience any pvp mode needs periodic infusion of new blood. Hopefully this will help in that regard.

Still, if one cannot support one’s position without lying (not refering to you), one’s position may very well be lacking in merit.

I greatly prefer subscription fees. In GW2 I don’t feel like I’m ever earning skins etc through a meaningful or interesting way. Everything seems to revolve around gold, which puts me in a spot where I have to grind or pay real money.

There is no correlation between subs and how you earn rewards though … Do you believe if GW2 was sub based, we would have a different approach to earning rewards like skins? If so, why do you think that?

I think it’s the opposite. You would pay your sub, then you would still have gemstore, etc… Why wouldn’t Anet want to appeal to people’s willingness to pay for extra goodies? It would be stupid for them not too …

Exactly.

At this point in the MMO genre, for the most part, its not sub vs cash shop. Its sub plus cash shop vs cash shop.

No. Actually it was an entirely unreasonable option.

The idea that there was not a single combat trained and experienced military officer available to fill a command position, any one of which would have been a better choice, is ludicrous. This is particularly true in a continent in a continuous state of war.

For me, they deserve the money for the content and entertainment they provide.

I just don’t think your proposal (regardless how you tweak it) will find much support here. Sorry.

Still, good luck.

Aside from those few who have stated they will not be purchasing the expansion – Virtually every active (PvE) player is psychologically locked into purchasing the expansion at some point, simply by virtue of the fact that they are ‘active players’ – For all those currently playing the game regularly, not having access to all the new content is not an option, but it would appear that if the word ‘subscription’ rather than ‘purchase’ is used – everyone is keen to pay $35 dollars more.

The benefits to the game in the long run however seem to be being overlooked. Can anyone make a reasonable argument that a $15 fee would not encourage many more of the huge number of inactive players, who purchased the game at launch to try the game again?

I am an active player.

I am not sure that I will be buying the expansion as it does not (according to current information) add much of anything of interest to me. It is possible of course that my stance will change.

Thank you for for a very straight answer – So would a nominal $15 price point have persuaded you to ‘re sub’?

If I had left the game (I think that is what you mean by re-sub), asking me to pay more for a product that I was already not using would not bring me back. It wouldn’t matter how low the price point if I don’t want the product. Conversely, if the announced features of the expansion addressed my handful of concerns about the game I wouldn’t blink at spending hundreds of dollars on it.

If I had left the game because I was taking a break (as I have more than once over the last three years) requiring me to pay $15 to regain access to something that was sold to me as pay once would probably result in a report to my state’s department of weights and measures.

In answer to your question – I think that many more of them would be prepared to pay $15 rather than $50.

Why would they pay anything for a product that they don’t want to use ?

The only point is to be a savvier consumer of MMOs. When we spend money, we rationalize the expense a number of ways and some of those rationalizations suck. “It’s on sale now, so I’d actually lose money if I don’t buy it and want it later,” is a famously bad rationalization for buying something. But people really do behave this way all the time. When purchasing an expansion, the fact that their is so subscription fee for GW2 is an equally bad rationalization that I see people using a lot.

How many people are purchasing the expansion because there is no subscription fee as opposed to purchasing the expansion because it expands the game they enjoy paying ?

The reality is, in a sub fee vs non sub fee comparison, that games with sub fees have cash shops too. Its not an either/or situation. It is a matter of do you want a sub fee plus cash shop or just cash shop?

I think that the game calls for too many clicks and that adding more is probably a bad idea.

Running glass should be difficult, and, in PvE, it isn’t. Where’s the Risk/Reward calculus?

It was difficult. At launch people did not wear zerker to the degree that they do now. Its not a fault in the gear that people have had nearly three years to practice the same content over and over again.

Even things that are very difficult can become easy with repetition.

Because that’s the plan for the future. Include the base game + previous EP’s when the next EP is released.

Which is a great idea IMO.

My only disappointment with warhorn offhand is that it, to me at least, is more visually appealing when paired with a sword rather than scepter or dagger.

When Guild Wars 3 is announced, how would a $15 subscription model with a major expansion release every 30 months affect your decision to buy the game and why?

It would increase the likelihood that I would skip the game.

Anet has announced that they consider a sub fee to encourage poor game design. Adopting a sub fee would indicate that they are consciously choosing to adopt a policy of poor game design.

For what it is worth, “Reaper,” can mean a farming machine in English as well.

He is badly written. His addition to the story is poorly managed. He is a hindrance in play.

I don’t have a problem not being in charge of the Pact. I would much rather be out in the field completing missions than sitting in an office reading reports and writing orders.
