Hi Xispeo – I’m not able to discern the exact cause of the crash by these crashlogs as they’re not giving me too much to go off of and so if you’re still experiencing this issue I’d like to collect a Game Advisor report so I can look into why you might be experiencing this crash. You can download the Game Advisor application at the link below:

http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor/

Please note that you will be automatically prompted to install Game Advisor upon clicking the link. Once you’ve generated the report, you can attach it to this thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

Hi Zippy – My first thought is this could be either heat or an issue with your power supply unit. The only issue I saw in the Game Advisor report is that you are missing the SP1 Windows update. I would recommend updating this and then doing a clean installation of your video card drivers as there are some newer ones available. While this likely isn’t the cause of the issue, it could be a contributing factor and if anything, applying these updates should at least improve in-game performance for you.

I would like for you to try monitoring your CPU and GPU temperature while playing the game. There are multiple programs available to do this, and one example is “SpeedFan.”

If you wish to use SpeedFan (not supported by NCSOFT or ArenaNet) please download it at the following URL:
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php On this page, click the blue link that says “SpeedFan 4.47” and install it.

Regardless of which program you use to monitor the temperatures, please try playing the game in windowed mode and monitor the CPU temperature while playing the game. Please take a screenshot of the program’s readings.

Hi Andrizzay – Your Crash logs are showing CRC errors, what this means is that something has caused a file to be the wrong size and corrupted the installation. The first thing we want to rule out are issues on your drive.

Please do the following first to check and repair your drive:

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.

2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

5. Click Start.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.

Once that is complete, Please navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file.

Once you’ve done this please repair the client again.

Hope this helps!

Hi Parae – This does sound to be hardware related but it could be a number of different things. Have you tried moving the client to a different drive? Have you checked your temps to ensure you’re not overheating? Have you tried a clean installation of your video card drivers or tried swapping out your video card for a different one to rule out your GPU?

Hi Roars,

First, I would like for you to navigate to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and delete the local.dat file. Next, please try the following to repair your Guild Wars 2 installation:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.

Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”

Allow the repair to run and once completed, “Right-click” “GW2.exe” or your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator.”

Hi Zippy – In order to help you we’ll need some more info. How often does your PC shut down when playing Guild Wars 2? How long are you able to play before this happens? Does your PC simply power off or do you get any kind of error message when this happens?

Also, if you’re able to post your full system specs or attach a Game Advisor report to the thread (you can find info on how to do so in the sticky thread regarding contacting support) this would be much more helpful.

The more information that you’re able to provide the more quickly and efficiently we’ll be able to provide some sort of feedback.

Hi Chillz – I’m sorry to hear about having to reinstall the client. Unfortunately if the installation/patching process is interrupted in this way the client will need to be reinstalled from scratch.

As Ilithis Mithilander mentioned, a backup copy of your gw2.dat file wouldn’t be a bad idea especially if blackouts may be a common occurrence.

Hey all – I’m trying to gather some information so we can narrow down the cause of these issues. I would like to ask that you all reply back with your location, ISP, and a Network Diagnostic report.

The PingPlotter reports are great to look through and it does appear to be a commonality with Level 3, though I’d like to collect some more info to verify. To provide the network diagnostic report please follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder.
2. Right-click on “Gw2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Right-click on “Gw2.exe – Shortcut” and select “Rename.”
4. Rename this file to “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic.”
5. Right-click on “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” and select “Properties.”
6. Locate the “Target” line and add the following to the end " -diag"
Your target line should look like this: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -diag
7. Click OK to save your changes.
8. Open “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” to start the test.

Once completed, please click “View Results” and save the results to a text file on your desktop. Next, please attach to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

Hey Heiltdo – The first thing I would recommend would be to update to SP1. Additionally, , it appears that you do not have a valid installation of Direct X. This could be due to corruption or you may just not have it installed. Either way we should update this.

This is what we are seeing currently from your Game Advisor report that you provided:
================ = Installed DirectX ================
– x86
– x64
d3dxof.dll – 6.1.7600.16385

The first link will provide you with the June 2010 redistributable which will force Windows to update Direct X. I provided this link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 (download and run this first)

Once installed, please use the following link to install all material post June 2010 for Direct X. Again this link is provided below:

Alright moving along – I would like to rule out the possibility that there is another program interfering with the game connection. To do this, we use a Windows command called “MSCONFIG.”

Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up.

To do this:

1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.

2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.

3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)

4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.

5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.

To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click “Normal Startup” on the first window labeled “General.”

Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software, mouse or keyboard applications or even security applications. Please note that security applications can often be a contributing factor to such issues. If you haven’t done so already, please also disable any Anti-virus, Firewall or other security applications for testing purposes. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.

Hey there thanks for the Game Advisor report! I’m concerned about the space left on your hard drive. It looks like you’ve only got about 10 GB left which could be creating some issues installing. While the latest update doesn’t exceed this, it may be too little space available for the update to successfully install.

The first thing I would recommend doing would be to free up some space on your hard drive and to try again.

Hi Heiltdo – The Guild Wars 2 download application will resume file downloads. However, there seems to be a bit of confusion as to how it does that. When the download is stopped for any reason, you need to close and restart the launcher. When you do this, the application will scan the already downloaded files to make sure they are intact. Once the files are scanned, the download continues. The confusion comes from how the “scan” appears in the launcher. When this process is taking place it will look like it is downloading the files again, complete with “download speeds.” However, if you notice the download speed, it should be much faster than your Internet connection. This is because the launcher isn’t actually downloading the files from the Internet but is instead, scanning the files inside the GW2.dat file. Once the scan completes, the download resumes and your actual bandwidth is used. Please note that in order for the launcher to begin the update where it left off, you must exit out of the launcher properly. If the launcher was closed due to a power outage or drop in internet service, it will not save the progress and will start again from the beginning.

Hey there FireBat – I would like to make sure there are no other programs conflicting with your game by using a Windows command called MSCONFIG.

Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up. If you have any security software, such as anti-virus or firewall applications, you’ll have to manually disable/uninstall those. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.

1. Click the bottom left of the screen to bring up the Start menu

2. Type MSCONFIG and hit the Enter key. This should open the System Configuration Utility.

3. Click on the Services tab and check the Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox near the bottom then click the Disable All button.

4. Next go to the Startup tab and click the link to go to Task Manager and disable all items.

5. Once these items are all disabled, click the OK button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.

To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click Normal Startup on the first window labeled General.

Hi baram – There’s a few things that could be causing this. First, I noticed that you do not have Windows updated to Service Pack 1. The latest revision of drivers from AMD.com now require Microsoft Service Pack 1 to be installed on your computer and it appears your PC does not have this installed. You can review those new requirements here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalystSoftwareSuiteVersion123ReleaseNotes.aspx

Specifically: (From AMD.com)

Notes.

When installing the AMD Catalyst driver for Windows operating system, the user must be logged on as Administrator or have Administrator rights to complete the installation of the AMD Catalyst driver.
The Catalyst driver requires Windows 7 Service Pack 1 to be installed.

In order to install this update, please visit www.windowsupdate.com and select all updates labeled “Important” or “Critical.” While not required, you may also want to review any updates under the label “Hardware.” Once installed, you may also need to reinstall your AMD drivers as they were installed without this update being present.

Let me know if this helps. If not we can move on to the next step as there are multiple resolutions for this particular issue.

Hi Kopipoki – Do you happen to have any security software currently enabled? This is generally the main cause for patch/installation issues.

Hi claurence – There isn’t a “pause” button though if you simply close out of the installer, the next time you launch the client it should continue where it left off.

Hi Chiavari – I’d recommend starting with disabling both McAfee and MSE. Please note, we are not asking you to run your PC without any security software. We simply need to verify if this application is blocking access and often, temporarily removing the application is the only way to do this.

Hi Flatley – There are some new AMD drivers that were released that I would recommend downloading:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

I would highly recommend doing a clean installation of your video card drivers. We generally suggest players use Driver Fusion to do this but whatever you feel more comfortable using.

The 404 error is a little odd. To anyone else experiencing this issue, please try clearing your DNS cache. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the R key. This should bring up the “Run” dialogue box.

2. In that box, type “cmd” without the quotes, and click the “OK” button. A DOS window should open.

3. Enter the following command below and press enter: ipconfig /flushdns

This should clear your DNS cache. You may need to perform this command a few times.

If neither of the above methods work out please let me know!

If the issue persists your ISP may be providing old DNS information. Some ISPs take longer to update this information. You could also try using a 3rd party DNS service like those available at http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ or http://www.opendns.com/start/ . NCsoft does not support these services, but there is information on configuring them at those sites.

Hi Shadowlancer – This error message can pop up for a number of different reasons and often times this can occur after an update or may just occur randomly. I experienced this error myself logging in earlier today and when I tried to log in again I could log in normally. Unfortunately I do not have the answers as to exactly why this will happen, though the reason will vary for each person.

Hi Mkalafut – I was just using the HoM calculator and I’m not seeing the issue that you’re reporting. This issue could be due to your Internet connection settings. Please try the following:

1. Go to your Start Menu and then select the Control Panel.

2. Open “Internet Options.”

3. Go to the “Advanced” tab.

4. Click “Restore advanced settings” and click the “Reset…” button.

5. In the new windows click “Reset” and once the progress is complete click “Close.”

Please let me know if this doesn’t resolve the issue for you.

Hi Taumantis – I would like to make sure there are no other programs conflicting with your game by using a Windows command called MSCONFIG.

Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software or mouse/keyboard applications.

Hi Dyze – Sounds like you’ve about run the gamut as far as troubleshooting this issue goes. At this time I would like you to delete the Temporary Cache for Guild Wars 2. Generally this is done to troubleshoot issues with the Black Lion Trading Post but I’ve seen this actually resolve black screen issues as well. To do this:

1. In Windows, press the “Start” button and locate the “Search programs and files” bar at the bottom of the start menu.

2. Type in the word “temp” with a percent sign in the beginning and the end of the word without any spaces.

3. Press “Enter” and a new window should appear with the location of “C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp”

4. Locate the folder labeled "gw2cache-{RANDOM NUMBERS} and delete it.

After doing this, please try running Guild Wars 2 again.

Hope this helps!
