Hi rebillion

Couple of things I’m curious to know if you’ve tried or not (and if not, I’d advise giving these steps a shot):

- Delete the GW2 cache folder
- Bypass your router and connect directly to the modem (or disable SPI Firewall if you have a router/modem combo)
- Temporarily disable start-up apps and security software via Msconfig

Beyond this, I’d recommend putting in a ticket so our Technical Support Team can further assist you with this issue.

Hi pswendel. – Could you please post the full crash log? This is only a small portion of the error which doesn’t quite tell the whole story here. You can find the report by navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and it’ll be the ArenaNet.log file. You can attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

I don’t normally post on these kinds of threads because they’re generally opinion and experience based, but I couldn’t ignore the fact that I fit into the setup mentioned by Avelos. Personally, this is what I use at home and it runs Guild Wars 2 pretty nicely.

Aside from that, I really can’t tell you what hardware you should get, but best of luck in the decision making!

Hi Ehman,

Just a few things – first and foremost, make sure there’s no security software currently enabled as they’re the usual culprit.

Next, Guild Wars 2 requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 be fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound. If you are connecting to Guild Wars 2 while on a campus, military, or business network, please check with your network’s administrator to verify that these ports are fully opened and unrestricted. If you are on a home Local Area Network (LAN), you will want to make sure that your network’s hardware is properly configured.

Msconfig never hurts as this allows you to rule out any conflicting apps right away.

Aside from that, you can also try a Winsock reset.

Hi Asudementio – This could be a number of things – drivers, failing graphics card, overheating, missing DirectX updates, etc. To start, I’d recommend posting your system specs and more preferably, a Game Advisor report or a DxDiag.

The issue you are experiencing is called a TDR or Timeout Detection and Recovery error that happens with the Windows Vista/7 and the Nvidia Drivers. For more information on this error, I’d recommend checking out the link below:

Hi Kiba – First things first. I’d recommend disabling Microsoft Security Client so that we can rule this out. Next, I’d like for you to try a Winsock reset. You can do this by following the steps below:

1. Click the “Start” button to bring up the Start Menu.

2. Type in CMD into the “Search programs and files” field but do not hit enter. Doing this will change your start menu to show the program “cmd.exe.”

3. Right-click on “cmd.exe” and select “Run as Administrator.”

4. Type “netsh winsock show catalog >C:\LSP.txt” without the quotes. This will save a file to the root of your C drive called LSP.txt. You don’t really need to provide this. It’s more confirmation that this was done correctly.

5. Once complete, type “netsh winsock reset” without the quotes. When the command is completed successfully, a confirmation appears, followed by a new command prompt line.

Hope this helps!

Hi Timebandit (nice name, by the way) – For whatever reason this happens with security software after updates. All of a sudden it sees the game as a threat and decides to block all the things.

I’d make sure you have Guild Wars 2 added to the exceptions list of Trend Micro. Unfortunately I can’t walk you through this as all security software have a different interface, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to set up.

Hi tanztante!

Looking over your Game Advisor report, there’s just a couple of things you may also want to try should the previous suggestions not resolve the issue for you:

1 – You’ve got a number of apps running. Msconfig certainly wouldn’t hurt to rule out any conflicting apps.

2 – Your system seems to be lacking mobo drivers. The reason I say this is we’re seeing a generic driver name here (this can be found under "System Devices):

Name: PCI standard host CPU bridge
Device ID: PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1605&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_00\3&18D45AA6&0&C5

Driver: n/a

I’d recommend looking up your mobo model # and downloading the latest Chipset, LAN, and Audio drivers to start.

3 – Playing with a Crossfire configuration, I’d also recommend downloading the latest CAP drivers as well if you haven’t already.

Hope this helps!

There is a benchmarking tool we use to see your average frame rate and performance in a real world 3D environment called Heaven. This is more for your own personal reference, but it should give you some idea as to what kind of performance you can expect in Guild Wars 2. If your numbers are abysmally low (say, in the single digits) then more than likely this is a hardware based issue and not an issue with the client itself.

To run Heaven,

1, Download “Heaven” from this site here: http://unigine.com/products/heaven/download/ (Free download)
2. Once on this page, click “Mirrored by TechPowerUP” under the “Windows Version” field. This will take you to TechPowerUp.com where you can click “Download Now” and select a download mirror.
3. Once downloaded, double click the file to run it.
4. Use the following settings:

API: DirectX 9
Tessellation: Disabled
Shaders: High
Anisotropy: 4x
Stereo 3D: Disabled
Multi monitor: Unchecked
Anti-aliasing: Off
Full Screen: Check marked
Resolution: System

Once running, click the “Benchmark” button in the top left corner. This will start the test. Once completed, the results will be shown on the screen and you can click “Save” to save your results.

Voila!

Aside from this, there’s a few different things you can check off as far as troubleshooting goes to increase performance:

- Make sure all of your drivers are up to date
- Disable any start-up apps via Msconfig to make sure none of them are conflicting with the client
- Make sure your hardware isn’t underclocked or have any sort of odd memory timings

etc.

It looks like your issue is your drivers. As long as your Display Devices looks like this is a DxDiag or Game Advisor report:

Display Devices

DAC type: © 1988-2010, Advanced Micro D

You are likely going to have to continue having this issue. If anything I’d use AMD’s auto-detect tool to download and install the latest AMD drivers for your card. If anything you might want to consider a clean install as well to rule out corrupt drivers.

Error 10 is typically caused when you click the Join or Invite button without putting a name in the character name field.

Please try the following steps and let me know if you are successfully able to invite another member to your party.

Click on the party icon in the upper left of the screen. You should see a box that says character name with the buttons join and invite underneath.

In order to invite someone to your party their character name needs to be in the character name field. You can either type the characters name in or target them. Once their name is in the character name box, you can then click the invite button. Doing this will send them an invite which they can either approve or deny.

Hi Gellus – Thank you for providing us with the Game Advisor report! I love this report, I really do. It gives so much info to go off of for troubleshooting which is really great, particularly in tricky cases.

Anyway in addition to some of the other suggestions here, I’d recommend a DirectX update. The first link will provide you with the June 2010 redistributable which will force Windows to update Direct X. I provided this link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 (download and run this first)

Once installed, please use the following link to install all material post June 2010 for Direct X. Again this link is provided below:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 (download and run this 2nd)

Please be sure to save the file to your Windows desktop. Then create a new folder on the desktop and extract the DirectX files into it. Once they have been extracted open the new folder and use the DXsetup file to install DirectX.

As these other kind people have suggested – start with a clean installation of your video card drivers, especially since you went from an AMD to an Nvidia card. I’d probably follow-up with deleting the local.dat file (should be in your Guild Wars 2 folder since you’re on XP) and then run a repair of the client.

Hi Wellread – What’s your ticket number? Tickets are usually answered in the order that they’re sent in and so if we’re experiencing high volume, then, yes, you would have to wait a bit longer for a response.

Additionally, issues such as this are not always that much quicker over the phone. You would still be asked to run certain tests, some of which require a certain amount of time to be completed from your end and also requested of you the same information.

That being said, as I’ve mentioned on countless posts in regards to this error, it’s a general connectivity error code. It can be caused by a number of different things which is why some data collection and troubleshooting must be tried.
