Hi there,

This is definitely a new one to me. I asked around and this doesn’t actually look like a technical based issue. Would you mind submitting a support ticket so we can further investigate this issue? If you could also include a screenshot of the error, this would help as well.

There’s a couple of things that you can try, but ultimately I think the surefire resolution would be to upgrade to a 64-bit operating system.

One solution presented by players being affected by this is to change the “Maximum pre-rendered frames” in the Nvidia control panel. To do this:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Select "Manage 3D Settings.
3. Scroll down until you find “Maximum pre-rendered frames” and change it from “Use the 3D application settings” to “1.”
Once completed, click “Apply” to save your changes and try Guild Wars 2 again.

Hi Maverick,

The issue you are reporting may be due to the Guild Wars 2 ports being blocked. To check this, please try the following:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder.
2. Right-click on “Gw2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Right-click on “Gw2.exe – Shortcut” and select “Rename.”
4. Rename this file to “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic.”
5. Right-click on “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” and select “Properties.”
6. Locate the “Target” line and add the following to the end " -diag"
Your target line should look like this: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -diag
7. Click OK to save your changes.
8. Open “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” to start the test.

Once completed, please click “View Results” and save the results to a text file on your desktop. Once saved, go ahead and attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

Hi there! Sorry for the delay – I’ve got quite a workload ahead of me today so some days I tend to be more active on here than others. Have you tried bypassing your router and connecting directly to your modem? This is definitely pretty odd because there isn’t a whole lot here that stands out to me.

EDIT: If this is something that you can try, while directly connected to your modem and if you’re still getting the error, could you create a -diag report for me? It’s basically just creating a shortcut and adding"-diag" to the end of the Target line. If you’d like specific steps please let me know!

Hi there. Have you tried disabling Avast? Looks like that’s still running in the background and you didn’t mention having tried this yet. Generally security software is the main cause – the other cause is generally an unsupported connection (mobile, satellite, etc.).

Hi Ninuz,

Various reports indicate performance is much better when using a Windows partition, but of course I can’t TELL you that you must do this. This is simply due to the fact that the Mac client is still in Beta (please don’t hurt me!) and not yet fully optimized. So this really boils down to what’s more important for you at the moment: performance, or playing on the Mac client.

Hi King Dimitris,

This is the first I’ve heard of this particular issue. Have you tried repairing the client (sorry I know it sounds simple, but always good to start with the basics)? If you haven’t done this before, please refer to the steps below:

1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the Finder menu bar.

2 Click on “Go” in the Finder menu bar. A dropdown will appear.

3 Click on "Utilities.”

4 Once in the “Utilities” folder click on the Terminal.app.

5 Copy and paste the following line into the terminal:

applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

6. Click ”Enter.”

This should initiate the repair process on the client. Please allow the process to complete and once it is done, close out of terminal, log into your account, and see if the issue persists.

It looks like your video card is a bit out of date. Video card drivers tend to update every 3 to 6 months and for the newest games to work their best, keeping this driver up to date is paramount.

The first thing to try is to go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx and Download and run AMDs Driver Verification Tool.

Beyond this, I did notice you’re getting some Out of Memory crash errors in your report which we’re currently investigating so if the driver update didn’t resolve the issue for you I’d like for you to contact us directly by submitting a support ticket so we can further assist you one on one.

I couldn’t tell you how to configure your router exactly since a lot of them have different steps to run through in order to do this, but when you configured your router previously was it the SPI Firewall that you disabled? Additionally, do you have another router you might be able to test out? It sounds like this was the core of your issue so it’s unlikely there may be anything else that could be tried. I know certain router models are more problematic than others such as the Netgear D6300 modem/router combo units.

Did you disable the SPI Firewall or have you tried bypassing the router completely? I’d also disable any security software that you may have enabled just in case as well as it seems like a number of things trigger the black screen issue such as the Turbo Boost feature on some CPU’s.

Hi Spirit Ritulist,

Have you tried monitoring your system’s temperatures? It’s possible that you may be overheating or it could simply be a driver based issue. Unfortunately we don’t have a whole lot of info from you. Hi there Razorsharp Blade,

While it might not be related, it looks like you’ve only got about 1.4 GB left of free space on your hard drive which could lead to some issues. I’d recommend freeing up some space on your C: drive or moving the client out on your D : drive. If you decide to move the client, I’d also suggest running a repair on the client afterwards and making sure to run as Admin.

It also looks like you’re connecting through a router. Is it at all possible for you to try bypassing the router altogether and connecting directly to your modem via Ethernet cable?

Howdy,

“d3d9.dll " is likely driver related but the tricky part is narrowing down which one. I’d start with a clean installation of your video card drivers in addition to making sure that you have the latest DirectX installation packages installed.

The first link will provide you with the June 2010 redistributable which will force Windows to update Direct X. I provided this link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 (download and run this first)

Once installed, please use the following link to install all material post June 2010 for Direct X. Again this link is provided below:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 (download and run this 2nd)

Please be sure to save the file to your Windows desktop. Then create a new folder on the desktop and extract the DirectX files into it. Once they have been extracted open the new folder and use the DXsetup file to install DirectX.

Hi there Nalier,

The instructions below will change the way Guild Wars 2 connects on your network. In short, this will force all inbound and outbound data to use port 80. Since port 80 is a very common port, it usually has the least amount of issues with transmission of data. To do this:

1. Locate the file “GW2.exe” and right-click it, selecting “Create Shortcut.”
2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

4. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end. Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes.
• Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
• Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”

5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 4 again.

6. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.

Hope this helps!

Hi Black Drops – I can’t see the full error here but what I can see indicates a possible issue with your hard drive. I’d start with a Disk check and then follow-up with a client repair. If you want the steps to do so, please refer to the steps below:

1. Open Computer by clicking the “Start” button and then clicking “Computer.”

2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click “Properties.”

3. Click the “Tools” tab, and then, under “Error-checking”, click “Check Now.” If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

5. Click “Start.”

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.

Once that is complete, please navigate to your local.dat file by following the steps below:

1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the “R” key.

2. Paste in the following line:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2

3. Click “OK.”

4. Locate and delete the “Local.dat” file.

Next:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.

2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”

4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.

Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.

Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again and see if this resolves your issue.

I’m afraid that I cannot agree that this is 100% a server side issue because if this was the case this would be affecting most, if not all players.

Are you playing on a campus, by chance?

Hi there!

Switching to a 64-bit OS would probably be your best bet but I certainly can’t tell you to go out and do this. I think there’s a couple of other workarounds that have worked for other players with a 32-bit OS – unfortunately these are some suggestions that I cannot personally offer. I’d check out the other threads where players have reported the same issue to see if you stumble across it unless someone else chimes in to this thread to help you out.

Sorry I couldn’t offer any information other than this – generally turning down some of your in-game graphics options can alleviate some of the crashing but it sounds like this is something that you’ve already tried.
