Hi Maiden England – What troubleshooting steps have you tried already? Have you tried repairing the client? The more information that you’re able to provide the more quickly we can assist you with this issue.
Hi trotro – Unfortunately this isn’t enough information for us to go off of as a number of different things could be causing this crash. I would first ensure that you meet the system requirements. If you do, I’d start with a driver update and a repair to start. Beyond this, I’d need to see a crash log from you in order to get some idea as to why you’re experiencing this problem.
Hi there Jabbiz – Are you on a 64-bit or a 32-bit OS? If you’re using a 32-bit OS, more than likely this is the cause of your issue if you’ve got more than around 3.5 GB of memory (including the additional video memory) in your system. This is simply due to a limitation of 32-bit operating systems.
This is where it gets a little complicated, but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, “out of memory errors.” Some players have resolved this by upgrading to a 64-bit operating system. Others simply have removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Obviously removing RAM from your PC is not an ideal solution but I wanted to give you all the information we have learned regarding these issues. You can read more about this issue from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 The important part is listed below:
“For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.”
One solution presented by players being affected by this is to change the “Maximum pre-rendered frames” in the Nvidia control panel. To do this:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Select "Manage 3D Settings.”
3. Scroll down until you find “Maximum pre-rendered frames” and change it from “Use the 3D application settings” to “1.”
Once completed, click “Apply” to save your changes and try Guild Wars 2 again.
Hope this helps!
Hi there Palm Tiger (and anyone else experiencing this issue):
The instructions below will change the way Guild Wars 2 connects on your network. In short, this will force all inbound and outbound data to use port 80. Since port 80 is a very common port, it usually has the least amount of issues with transmission of data. To do this:
1. Locate the file “GW2.exe” and right-click it, selecting “Create Shortcut.”
2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
4. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end. Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes.
• Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
• Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 4 again.
6. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.
Hope this helps!

To anyone with this issue, could you please attach the crash log to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…” (please do not copy and paste into the thread – the crash logs can get massive).
You can find the crash logs by following the steps below:
1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the R key.
2. Paste in the following line and then click OK.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
What you want to be looking for is the ArenaNet.log file.
Thanks guys!
No ETA on skill delay fix.
That’s definitely interesting for sure. Generally players have told me this issue happens on all computers. I’d submit a support ticket and provide the In-Game Support Team with this updated info. Unfortunately I can’t do any tinkering around with people’s accounts from a Technical Support position.
Best of luck!
Hi Dardamaniac – Usually this error is due to security software blocking the client. Have you tried disabling any of your security software (if any) and Firewalls?
Hi Jayne – The original thread does appear to be in the right place. Unfortunately there isn’t any troubleshooting that we could try which will resolve this issue for you. I can only recommend that you either add to that thread or submit another bug report. I’m sorry I don’t have more information to provide other than this but there isn’t anything we’re able to do for you techwise.
Hi mightbight – What video card are you using? Also – if you do not have an ArenaNet.log file then this would indicate more of a system related crash rather than a client crash. That being said, we might need to request some more info from you that you may not want to or be able to upload to this thread. The sticky below should detail contacting support:
Hi fedecane – Are you encountering this issue on any other systems within your household or is this issue unique to your laptop? Also, have you tried using a direct connection by connecting directly to your modem via Ethernet cable? Also, when you get disconnected, what sort of error messages are you getting, if any?
Hi deadsole – Thanks for the crash log!
I’d start off with a simple repair if you haven’t already. Next, I’d like for you to go to http://www.geforce.com/drivers and click on Auto-detect your GPU. If this does not work, you will need to contact your computers manufacturer as your laptop requires proprietary drivers that can only be obtained through the manufacture.
I know these sound like really basic steps but I just want to avoid we’re covering all bases in the beginning before I request any more data from you.
Hope this helps!
Hi Spinkta – Thanks for the crash log!
I don’t want to Hijack mightbight’s thread here but I took a look at your crash log and just wanted to bring to your attention something that stood out to me. Specifically, when you see “OOM” in the crash logs, this is indicating an “Out of Memory” crash error. This is due to the limitations of your 32-bit operating system not being able to use more than 3.5(ish) GB of memory.
This is where it gets a little complicated, but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, "out of memory” errors. Some players have resolved this by upgrading to a 64-bit operating system. Others simply have removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Obviously removing RAM from your PC is not an ideal solution but I wanted to give you all the information we have learned regarding these issues. You can read more about this issue from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 The important part is quoted below:
“For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.”
One solution presented by players is to set the Flip-Queue to 0 or 1 on an AMD Graphics card. This setting is not available in the Catalyst Control Panel and can only be adjusted using third-party software.
Aside from this, I’d highly recommend upgrading to a 64-bit operating system which should resolve both the crash issues for you and if anything, give you a slight performance boost.
Hi aerO – I’m glad you’re seeking out help before quitting! It’s really hard to kind of condense every crash issue as being the same thing, so we’d need to collect some more info from you in regards to the crash. As I’ve already requested of a couple of others reporting crashes, I’d like to get the client crash log from you.
If you are experiencing crashes that are prompting you to send a report to ArenaNet:
1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the R key.
2. Paste in the following line and then click OK.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
You can then attach the report to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”
Look forward to hearing back from you!
Hi GuilguiS (and everyone else reporting this issue):
I’d like for you guys to send us a support ticket so that we can figure out what’s changed or going on here. The sticky thread below should detail contacting the Technical Support Team:

Hi mightbight – First, I’d like to get some more info from you. Let’s start with your system specs – what are you working with (CPU, OS, RAM, GPU + anything else you want to add).
Next, if you are experiencing crashes that are prompting you to send a report to ArenaNet:
1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the R key.
2. Paste in the following line and then click OK.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
What you’ll want to be looking for is the ArenaNet.log file. You can attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”
This may give us some indication as to why you’re crashing.
Hi Jitz – Unfortunately if you encounter any kind of interruption during the installation such as with a power outage or loss of Internet connection, your client will need to be reinstalled from the beginning. I can only really recommend installing the client from a more stable network or to copy a fully patched client over from a friend or relative who may already have Guild Wars 2.
Hi SrebX – Have you tried running repair on the client first? Additionally, I’d make sure you have the latest DirectX updates in addition to the latest drivers for your video card.

Hi Zydico – I’m curious if your friend has Gw2.exe in their temp folder by accident. The easiest way to resolve this issue is to pull it out of the temp drive and onto the C drive by following the below steps:
1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the R key.
2. Paste in the following line and then click OK.
C:\users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp
3. Find Gw2.exe and right-click on the file and select Cut
4. Go to your C drive and into the Games folder. If there is no Games folder, create one.
5. In the Games folder, create the folder Guild Wars 2 and go into it.
6. In the Guild Wars 2 folder, right-click and select Paste.
7. Run Gw2.exe from the Guild Wars 2 folder.
The game should launch and immediately start patching. Two additional files should be created: Gw2.dat and Gw2.tmp
Hope this helps out your friend!

Hi Pikachews – Have you tried bypassing your router and connecting directly to the modem via Ethernet cable? If you have a router/modem combo, check to see if you have an option to disable the SPI Firewall as this is usually the culprit to this kind of issue. If you have a Netgear router, you may need to Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection.
Beyond this, I’d recommend trying the client in Windowed Mode. This should allow the game to bypass whatever resolution was picked and from there, you can reset it to full screen in the correct resolution. To do this:
First, please navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder. By default, this will be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
1. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Windowed.”
3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
4. Edit the “Target” line to include -windowed at the end.
Note: Please make sure -windowed is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: " C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe" -windowed
Incorrectly Formatted Example: " C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -windowed "
5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again by using this new shortcut.

If that doesn’t work out, could you please post a Game Advisor report to the thread? It’s essentially a “glorified DxDiag” that gives us a bit more info than just hardware and drivers that helps us out in narrowing down the cause of these kinds of issues. If you’re not comfortable posting this information on the forums, then I’d highly recommend creating a support ticket. You should receive a response fairly quickly. The thread below should give you more insight on contacting support:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/How-to-Submit-a-Technical-Support-Ticket-2/first#post3957
Since we’re likely going to need to request a bit of system info from you, some of which I’m not sure that you’d want to post in the threads, I’d highly recommend creating a support ticket so that we can assist you one on one with this issue. You should receive a response fairly quickly.
Hi Savy – For this particular issue I’d recommend creating a support ticket for further assistance. The sticky thread below should give you all the info you need to submit a ticket:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/How-to-Submit-a-Technical-Support-Ticket-2/first#post3957
Hi Roofio – There are a few things you can try to narrow down the cause of the issue here: try Msconfig to rule out all “unnecessary” NON-MICROSOFT background applications, bypass your router and connect directly to your modem via Ethernet cable, and you could also try a proxy service to see if the issue improves. If you find you’re not disconnecting or lagging out when using a proxy, this points to your ISP as the issue is the route your connection is taking to reach the game servers, something we unfortunately do not have control over.
Hope this helps!
Hi there Tarzo,
I’d like for you to try running Guild Wars 2 in a Window.
Hope this helps!
Hey there!
What sort of FPS are you getting now in comparison to what you were hitting previously? Is this when you’re in big groups of people as well?
The most recent crash errors are toward the bottom, not the top. Again, the the original response was edited. If the original poster or anything else is experiencing “Out of Memory” crashes but has a 64-bit operating system creating a support ticket is the way to go so we can collect more data in regards to this issue and narrow down the cause and in turn hope to get it resolved for everyone.
Hi GoldeNReiaL – Generally when new content is released some performance issues are to be expected since there is a large amount of players all jumping in at once to check it out. Now, if you are experiencing some kind of insanely low FPS, that’s something we’d need a bit more info about.
Silly, yes. However, this is not an issue specific to Guild Wars 2. It’s a limit of 32-bit operating systems which can happen on a number of different newer games.
And as I mentioned in the edit, if you have a 64-bit operating system please submit a support ticket so that we can further assist you.
Hi Baal – It looks like you’re getting Out of Memory crashes. The short version of this is that you’ve got more memory on your system (GPU + RAM combined) than the 3.5ish limit that 32-bit operating systems allow.
And to copy and paste what I told another player earlier: "This is where it gets a little complex but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, “out of memory errors.” Some players have resolved this by upgrading to 64-bit operating systems and others have simply removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Obviously removing RAM from your PC is not an ideal solution but I wanted to give you all the information we have found regarding these issues. You can read more about this issue from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 but the important part is listed below:
“For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.”
One solution presented by players being affected by this is to change the “Maximum pre-rendered frames” in the Nvidia control panel. To do this:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Select “Manage 3D Settings.
3. Scroll down until you find “Maximum pre-rendered frames” and change it from “Use the 3D application settings” to “1.”
Once completed, click “Apply” to save your changes and try Guild Wars 2 again.”
Hope this helps. I can’t tell you to upgrade to a 64-bit operating system, and I know other players in the forums have some workarounds, though I personally would recommend upgrading if this is something that you’re able to do.
EDIT: If you do NOT have a 32-bit operating system, please send us a support ticket. I’m trying to track this issue and so the more information we can gather from players experiencing this issue with 64-bit operating systems the better.
Hi Belthord. – It looks like you’re getting Out of Memory crashes (you can see the “OOM” at the top of the report) which is due to a limitation of your 32-bit operating system. WvW is particularly taxing on your system and 32-bit operating systems have a sort of limit which is around 3.5 GB.
This is where it gets a little complex but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, “out of memory errors.” Some players have resolved this by upgrading to 64-bit operating systems and others have simply removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Hi RyanFL – I hate to be the bearer of bad news here but if your connection is interrupted such as by a loss of power or loss of internet connection, unfortunately the client will start over from the beginning. If this is a regular occurrence, I can only suggest downloading the client little by little and what I mean by this is closing the client out periodically during the installation. When you open the client back up, it should pick right back up where it left off. Either this, or I’d recommend installation from a different location or copying a fully patched client over from a friend or a relative.
Sorry you had to deal with that, I know it’s not fun to start a hefty install over from the beginning
Hi Adam – For this particular issue I’d recommend running a Disk Check and following up with a repair of the game client.
Hi Delo – You’d probably get a better response to this in the Mac forums, but I’d like for you to try the following:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A dropdown will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” dropdown.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.
Let me know if this helps!
Hi Xehanort,
I’m curious to know if you’re able to log in by changing the way Guild Wars 2 connects on your network. We can do this by adding “/clientport80” to the Target line of your client’s shortcut. this will force all data inbound and outbound to use port 80.
Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 4 again.
6. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.
Hi Ivonbeton – At this point I think it would be best if you contacted us directly by submitting a support ticket. Please refer to the link below for info on how to do so and in addition to this please let the support team know what troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried so that you’re not having to waste time getting responses for steps you’ve done already.
Hi Zariuss – If you could provide your system specs this would be helpful to start. In addition, I’d like to see a crash log from you as well. This might shed some light as to why you’re experiencing these crash issues. You can find this by navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and it’ll be the ArenaNet.log file. You can then attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

Hi Hitman – I took a look at your crash logs and it looks like you’ve got some CRC errors and so I’d recommend running a Disk Check and follow that with a repair of the game client. Additionally and unfortunately I can’t see the driver date in the reports that you’ve sent, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to update those if it’s been a while for you.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win8-win7-64bit-320.49-whql-driver.html
Hi ElementaMaxima – There could be any number of different reasons why this could happen. Best to go down the list and make sure your video card drivers are updated and that you don’t have any conflicting background applications or security software interfering with the client.
Hi Purepower – I’d like for you to try updating DirectX. The first link will provide you with the June 2010 redistributable which will force Windows to update Direct X. I provided this link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 (download and run this first)
Once installed, please use the following link to install all material post June 2010 for Direct X. Again this link is provided below:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 (download and run this 2nd)
Please be sure to save the file to your Windows desktop. Then create a new folder on the desktop and extract the DirectX files into it. Once they have been extracted open the new folder and use the DXsetup file to install DirectX.

Hi Bogya – I would like you to change the language for the launcher (top right corner) to French, English, or German to see if the download completes. Once the download completes, you should be able to change the launcher back to your original language and log in and play again.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue for you, I’d recommend temporarily disabling any security software that you have enabled so we can rule it out as interfering with the client.
Hi there! Glad to hear the issue has resolved itself. I agree with Behellagh that your drivers should definitely be updated. Even if you’re not experiencing issues at the moment, I’d highly recommend it as it should improve your performance in game if anything.
Hi Z Y C O,
Is this a new mouse that you’ve purchased? If so you’ll want to make sure that you have all the proper mouse drivers installed and updated. Beyond this, I haven’t heard of this issue happening with Mac operating systems. Are you by chance running the client with Wine or Bootcamp?
Hey there,
If you don’t have a Guild Wars 2 crash log then it’s possible this is a hardware based crash (just speculation, not saying your system isn’t up to par). In order for us to dig a bit deeper here, I’d like for you to submit a Technical Support ticket so that we can gather a bit more system info from you in order to narrow down the cause. The thread below should provide you with the info you need for getting in contact with us:
Hm, that’s definitely odd. Has this been a constant occurrence or has this only popped up after the new router?
Either way, I’d like for you to submit a support ticket so that we can better assist you one on one with this issue. The thread below should give you more info on contacting support:
