Hello again!

To delete the GW2 Cache try the steps below:

1. In Windows, press the “Start” button and locate the “Search programs and files” bar at the bottom of the start menu.

2. Type temp with the percent sign symbol before and after the word “temp”
ex: percentsigntemppercentsign (can’t actually type in the sign in the forums).

3. Press “Enter” and a new window should appear with the location of “C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp”

4. Locate the folder labeled "gw2cache-{RANDOM NUMBERS} and delete it.

And there you have it.

Hello Anasurimbor – These sorts of issues are hard to pinpoint because they’re often generalized since many people will experience similar issues, but there are so many different factors that this isn’t something that can simply be “fixed” without more information. If this was a widespread issue, this would be affecting everyone. As such, while it may be affecting a wide playerbase, each person’s issue isn’t necessarily the same.

Many people who have reported similar issues in the past, saw it resolved after another patch, or out of the blue, or contacted their ISP and had the issue resolved, or some general technical troubleshooting had resolved the issue.

So you can see, this isn’t something that an “official response” can really address as it’s not really an issue that is affecting all if not most of our players without some sort of trend where everything has the same “symptoms” and occurrences. As I’ve always said in these cases, please submit a techniacal support ticket (refer to the sticky thread) so that we can better assist whoever is experiencing this issue one on one. That way, if the issue does not appear to be on our end, this is a wealth of information that we’ll be able to provide to the appropriate departments that can look into it.

Hi slazyex – Unfortunately I don’t have one solid fix for you, but there’s a little list of things to go through if you haven’t already:

1. Bypass router. Sounds silly and almost unnecessary but there have been some issues with some routers causing this issue.

2. Update video card drivers.

3. Delete the local.dat file (located in Documents\Guild Wars 2) and follow with a repair.

4. Eliminate any conflicting apps. Msconfig is usually the fastest way to rule these all out. This also includes security software.

5. Deleting the GW2 cache has also been known to resolve this issue.

Hope this gets you started off right. Let me know if the issue persists!

Hi there Unhinged Carrot – First, I’d check to make sure this isn’t any kind of interference by any security software or firewalls.

This could also be an issue with closed ports (could you perhaps let me know the exact error code number you’re seeing?).

Guild Wars 2 requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 be fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound. If you are connecting to Guild Wars 2 while on a campus, military, or business network, please check with your network’s administrator to verify that these ports are fully opened and unrestricted. If you are on a home Local Area Network (LAN), you will want to make sure that your network’s hardware is properly configured.

Hi harris – What kind of troubleshooting have you tried already? Usually this error code is the result of packet loss or an issue with the route your connection is taking to reach the game servers. Sometimes this could also be conflicting applications or potentially even an issue with your modem or router. Not passing the buck here, just giving you a few ideas of what the issue could be. For a more solid investigation and explanation I’d recommend submitting a technical support ticket. You should receive a response from our guys fairly quickly

Hi Willisium – Performance will differ a little depending on each person’s individual set up. Overclocking your processor has been known to give players a nice boost in performance, but Guild Wars 2 is also a little sensitive to overclocking and so this could lead to more annoying issues in the long run especially if not done correctly (not saying this would be the case for you, though it does happen).

Hi Superfortress – While this is an incredibly old thread, it looks like your issue is much the same. Generally this happens when your system either fails min specs or you’re missing video card drivers. Your case appears to be the latter:

Hi Helix!

Looking at the crash report you’ve provided I’d advise with a Disk Check:

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.

2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

5. Click Start.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.

Ah, the infamous black screen issue. Sorry you’re having to deal with this guy – it can definitely be a pain, mostly due to the fact that there are a number of different causes and so some troubleshooting will need to be had.

A couple of things: I’d highly recommend updating your Windows to Service Pack 1. You can do this by clicking the Start button and typing in “Windows Update” in the search bar. I’d install all critical updates.

Next, you’ve got quite a few applications running. It wouldn’t hurt to eliminate any background apps as being a possible variable that could be contributing to this issue via Msconfig. If that doesn’t resolve the issue for you, you can always re-enable them.

Lastly, though you had mentioned you port forwarded appropriately, have you tried bypassing your router all together and connecting directly to the modem?

Is this game SUPPOSED to run like this?

Hey there MrTheBigBadMeIlithis Mithilander illustrates his point very nicely. World of Warcraft, SWTOR are vastly different games and aren’t really the best for comparison. They’re essentially an entirely different “beast.” The FPS that you’re reporting getting sound about right, but you could try tweaking some of your Nvidia Control Panel settings to see if this will give you a slight boost in performance:

1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Once opened, left-click on “3D settings” and select “Adjust image settings with preview.”
3. Select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider to “Performance.”
4. Select “Use the advanced 3D image settings” and left click on “Take me there.”

This should take you to the “Manage 3D Settings” window. Once here:

5. Change “Power Management mode” to “Prefer maximum performance.”
6. Change “Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration” to “Single display performance mode.”
7. Change “Vertical Sync” to “Use the 3D application settings.”

Once completed, click “Apply” and start up Guild Wars 2.

Once loaded, access the “Graphic Options” window and make the following changes:

1. Change “Refresh Rate” to “60 Hz.”
2. Change “Frame Limiter” to “60.”
3. Change “Reflections” to “None.”
4. Change “Render Sampling” to “Supersample” then back to “Native.”
5. Enable “Vertical Sync” at the bottom.

Go ahead and give these settings a try. Hope this helps!

For a clean installation you can use third-party apps such as Driver Fusion. If this isn’t something you’re too familiar with and not comfortable doing, I’d recommend first just updating the video card drivers. AMD has a handy-dandy little auto-detect tool that should locate the appropriate drivers for your system. Check out the link below!

Hey there JarlyX! Thanks for giving us something to go off of right off the bat!

I took a look at your Speccy Snapshot and your RAM configuration caught my attention. This could just be an improper reading by Speccy, but from the sticks of RAM in your system your memory should be running at 800MHz but instead it’s running at 534,4 MHz. If you are comfortable with making changes to the BIOS, I’d recommend adjusting the settings to their intended values since the memory appears under-clocked.

Thanks Gluon!

I was looking through the report and it looks like the crash logs indicate a potential fault module to be “atiumdag.dll” which may be pointing to an issue with your video card drivers.

I would highly recommend doing a clean installation of your video card drivers to see if this resolves or at least alleviates any of the crashes that you’re experiencing.

Hey there Gluon – Do you happen to have the rest of the crash report? You can find this by navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and it’ll be the ArenaNet.log file. You can attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

I don’t have much to go on with what you’ve provided, but just to start, I would like you to try the following steps:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.

2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).

3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”

4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”

5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”

6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.

7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”

8. Click “Ok.”

Once completed, let’s go ahead and repair the new installation location:

1. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”

3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

4. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.

Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”

5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

8. Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”

Allow the repair to run and once completed, double click on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” to launch the game.

Hope this helps!

Again, if you’re still experiencing lag or connectivity issues please submit a ticket so that we can better assist you one on one. Hi oki I’m not sure what operating system you’re using but could you please try the following steps for me?

Can you please try the following steps for me?

1. Start Guild Wars 2 and once logged in hit “Alt + Tab” to return to Windows.

2. In Windows, locate your “Speaker Icon” in the "taskbar. (The taskbar is the set of icons next to your clock, you may have to press the arrow to display all the icons)

3. Once located, “right-click” on this icon and select “Open Volume Mixer.”

4. Once opened, check to make sure the master volume is set to the same setting as the “Guild Wars 2” slider. (If you do not have a Guild Wars 2 slider, Guild Wars 2 likely isn’t running)

If you’re using Windows 7, the issue is that Windows 7 allows you to control individual applications volume settings. Because of this, you can have windows saying the volume is up but still not get sound from a single application while getting sound from others. Using these settings should resolve that for you.

Hi Nent – I’m going to go ahead and say that your video card is the cause of the issue here. If updating the video card drivers didn’t resolve the issue for you, the only other option would be to upgrade to a card that meets the minimum requirements. I can’t give any specific recommendations, though I will say an AMD or Nvidia card would be the better way to go for performance over Intel chipsets.
