I am looking for a build that is tanky and about control along with good dps. I can’t really find anything on Google. For a tanky build should i go P/V/T? I think i want some thing little more tanky than having a lot of dps or if you could recommend a selfish tank/dps build that would be good to. I am only at level 9 but did have a level 80 asura guardian when the game first came out but didn’t know much since i was new to mmo. I would also take a GS/mace-focus build to.

Mace/focus is just brilliant for tanky Guardians, I can say that from experience. I would suggest taking a mixed armour set though. The stats you need will be Toughness, Vitality and Healing Power. You main tanky-ness will come from the healing power of your mace and it’s attack 1 pattern (1,2,heal,1,2,heal, etc)

So the Valor and Honour trait lines are your best bets. You can then adjust them to meet your prefered needs. For instance you can speck up for meditations, so they are instant and heal you. You also wont need to worry about mobility with judges intervention (a meditation teleport). Not to mention this will be you core way of removing conditions.

You can alternatively respec to a shout/boon healer for group interactions.

Guardian Mace tank builds can be quite versatile in terms of skills and very heavy in terms of health and healing. Making for good solo and team play.

As a former mace wielder I must say I love it. Mace/Focus can make you a veritable tank on it’s own. Lots of block and lots of heals, not to mention the healing is a short range AoE burst.

You will not get big damage, but you will last a darn lot longer than anyone with a great sword.

Off the top of my head Aric/Arik, which means ruler (I think don’t quote me on that)

Tengu – Always loved this race even in GW1, I still recall being all excited to see a Tengu henchman too. Now in GW2 there is a lot of mystery behind this race and would love to play as one. Not to mention they were considered as a playable race in early development. Having these guys announced would make my day.

Largos – They are just cool, let’s face it. Mysterious and cool, like the Predator

Kodan – Like Norn but hairier and bearier. I think the whole lore is fascinating too, though I would just like more info on them tbh.

for what? axe/axe?

It purely depend on your play style really, most axe players tend to be DPS and use skills and traits that compliment this style of gameplay.

I would suggest experimenting with what weapons feel the best to you and mold your style around that.

For instance I was level 30 before I settled on Mace/Shield, and I am still tweaking my style as I play.

I like the Charr speech sound, like the smacking of their jowls, makes them more animalistic

Just to clarify do you mean Gender as in the social construct or Gender as in their biological Sex?

I think have a gender as in the construct, their physical appearance is purely aesthetic, which is why they have so many “same-sex” partnerships.

I love being a Norn Ele, they are just so big and always look so wise

Their biology matches a humans but it is made of different stuff, sap, chlorophyll sacks (dunno if that is a thing I am no expert on plants). They are a physical mimicry of humans, but they are different enough to have their own form of specialist doctors to treat their wounds.

It remains a mystery how Rytlok came to hold the sword.

Ever considered tanking it up, Mace+Focus (gives defense and self healing) with a Hammer (defense and control) as back up. Then trait up fora specific move type, shouts are good for teams, while meditation is good for keeping conditions on your person down. So good trait lines to follow are Honour and Valour I think.

A meditation build is easy to do early on too, not to mention it syncs up with an elite skill. Take the 2 condition removal skills (one removes them and dishes out damage the other converts them to boons) so there is no way you are getting bogged down by conditions. The third skill is up to you, I had a habit to go with the teleporting meditation.

Finally do not be afraid of your virtues the meditation elite allows you to use em up and get em back without fear of being hit, so you can keep em on you and your allies.

Well to me it seems to be Primordus, with the events having to do with heat bursting from the ground and things coming to the surface. I mean we have saw this before in EotN where races have been pushed to the surface by this ED.

Let us not forget that this activity is also going on near the old Central Transfer Chamber too.

I really don’t see your point the sword is a fast weapon and the norn are skilled fighters, it looks fine to me.

The norn Ranger sword animation on the other hand makes him look like a fish fish out of water

It is a good class ignore the haters and this is coming from a Minion Master too

They take a bit of getting used to but you can actually make some nice builds with them too that are viable in late game areas might i add

I think it is more of a reference to Robot Unicorn attack

The most jarring one for me is the Norn Ranger with a sword, had to delete mine because I loved the sword but hated the animation so much. He spent most of his tome drop kicking, which sounds cool but looks like he is flopping around like a fish out of water.

Polar bear is not used by botters and i do believe it has one of the highest health bars for a pet

Yup deleted my lil Asuran Engineer for a Ranger, because I could not really get into it. It was fun but just….eh.

Then I remembered my original Norn a ranger that the only flow I found in him was that he flops like a fish when he does the kick attack.

So to the point any, advice for someone who has not played as a Ranger since the games release, or will they just be the same as before?

my advice is to gather materials and do not touch crafting until about level 40 or so. I know it is a while away but hey you will get a nice boost of xp and a bunch of cool stuff.

It is a minor trait that is geared towards a specialist build, in this case a minion master. It is like having minor trait based blocking for a warrior, just a waste on most builds.

It seems to be the only trait of this nature in the entire game. Just unfortunate that it is apart of the Necro trait line.

Though just my two cents for a quick fix:

Take away minion health degen, or……..
Reduce timer to summon a new minion, or………
Swap it out for a generic major trait, so people who don’t need minions can just no take it.

Honestly this trait really puts me off playing a minion master which is kinda the reason that I wanted to be a necro.

Righty let’s stop thinking of them as beings and focus on them as an Asura would, the Gods like the Spirits of the Wild are masses of magical energy. Dragons eat magical energy, so going on the assumption that the Six are more powerful than the Spirits, then all what they are to the dragons are bigger meals. Theoretically you could “choke” the dragons with enough energy but we have no clue how much that would take, if the Gods could mass that much energy and even how many dragons there are.

I like the trait that stacks might every time you block. It means I can build up some serious damage as a tanky build

Vampiric Gaze – 5 seconds siphon health from enemies within your line of sight. (in front of you) Range 600.

Aura of the Lich – Sacrifices all of your minions and to summon 6 bone horrors, summon an additional minion for each sacrificed. All minions within a radius of 900, have a boost in power and toughness.

Can dragons really eat gods?! O_O I haven’t read anything like that yet.. But it sure would look cool if we were given a cinematic with the gods fighting against a dragon..

In theory it is possible, the Spirits of the Wild are power god like beings, Jormag killed two of them and ate one.

So yup it is possible they could consume gods

Honestly I am on the fence with Trehaerne. I kind of expected him to come into his own more in the story, but he kinda just stays behind the scenes, he supposed to have earned the trust of all of these influential characters in Tyria. But I find it hard to believe he actually does anything.

I get it though, he is supposed to be an unlikely hero, he lacks confidence in himself but despite all of that he is the glue that holds the Pact together.

He also seems a little out of place for people who are not sylvari. I met him early in my personal story and learnt a little bit about him. It felt right to trust him when the Pact was forming as this character, but now I am on my other play throughs and he just does not click with my other characters. Just a simple click, now this guy is your boss.

He not a lost cause though, he as a character has a lot of potential, but it is just right now he just seems a little, well off. I hope A-net develops him more in the future and with that stops him from becoming another Kormir and stealing our glory at the last minute.

Lastly, comes my fanboy request, I would really like to see a sort of council in the Pact, Individuals from the 5 main races of GW who are all outside of the orders of tyria. With Trahaerne as the head of the council. This could provide a bit of a balance for Trahaerne, without re-writing his character or retconing anything. The future of the Pact is unknown to us and I hope it (along with our own personal story) grow and flourish.

Well from what I know of Wintersday, Grenth prefers the cold wintery month, while Dwayna wants the cold months to end and new life to return to the world.

Not to mention Death Gods and Life Gods always seem to argue over who is more important.

Well I vote for my Warrior in GW1 seeing as he beat Shiro, count em twice!

Bookahs never heard of “necessary sacrifices”. A few small hiccups and everyone gets all up in arms, what about the amazing gifts made by Tixx, granted I could have made infinity more extravagant gifts, but why steal his thunder.

Before filing this case you bookahs should spend a week maybe a fortnight in Rata Sum. At least his works are a success. I remember my lab partner in the College of Dynamics once tried to power a golem using natural gasses, the thing blew up and made the lab stink for months, never worked either. While my steam powered golems on the other hand worked a treat with no nasty smells, at least until they blew up. (I should really pick that project back up some time)

But I digress Tixx seems to be performing some fine research and if a few bookahs can handle it then that’s fine, but he is performing some fine work. And I am not just saying that because he got me a golem toy for Wintersday.

I have been thumbing a long time over what my Human Necromancer, Malaketh Dracul will look like. At first I thought the typical Orian necro, then I though a whispers agent, then a bunch of other things, but eventually I settle on an idea for a look. A member of the Ebon Vanguard.

Problem is I have rotten luck with dyes, right now I am sporting Ebon, Iron and Dust, but it just does not look right. Any advice on what other dyes to use would be appreciated.

I am also looking for some light armour that looks like it can be worn into battle, like you know practically.

Hey guys just thought I would throw an idea in the GW2 community mix.

GW2 puts a lot of emphasis on the look of your character and I see a few people asking about how to get “that” particular look.

So here is the point of the thread lets get a whole bunch of people who are willing to help each other make their character look the way they want them to.

How can we do this? Well together we can:
Send others items (crafting, magic find boosts, armour/waepon skins, dyes).
Organize dungeon runs for people who want that reward for their look.
Organize farming runs for people who need cash for armour.
Advice on how to obtain a certain look.

Expressing you look. Let others know what look you are going for through:
Posting pictures, either of your desired look or of something similar.
Saying what armour and weapons you are looking
Saying what dye you are looking
Saying what you are currently doing to get this look
Oh and let’s not forget your characters name and race

You can put in an estimated cost for your set in coins, tokens, karma, etc. But please don’t be begging for money, if a kind soul wants to send you the cash then fine, just remember this is not a fast track for quick cash.

I am loving some of the ideas here, especially the whole activities thing. I could be a nice thing to have certain weapon and armour skins available in the home instance depending on your choices in the story, particularly some of the minor choices that don’t affect gameplay and story.

Though the whole city dungeon thing I don’t really see the appeal to tbh sorry.

As for siege weapons I would love to see a weapon based on each race, I mean we already have golems what about a Charr Tank, or Seraph Siege weapon.

Actually this would not be such a bad idea, or even one that was just for people looking for Dungeon groups

Anyone else this this should be a thing? A unique set of armour available after you finish the game. Either through purchasing directly or through getting recipes via a vendor.

Aesthetically a mixture of three faction armours, for example:

Light armour – Robe complete with hood, think a more streamlined Durmond Prioy robe without the pattern (has veins of glowing blue energy flowing down the back of the robe to the extremities) . Metal plating covering certain body parts to create a more armoured look (elbows, chest, knees, shoulders).
Medium armour – Full metal plate mask (eye sockets glow blue) covering characters whole head, not just the face. With kind of a body form look for the rest of armour complete with metal blades protruding from joint areas.
Heavy armour – Large plate armour, with assorted engravings (glow blue) and side weapons such as knives for decoration.

At least that’s how I think they should look, you guys might have a different opinion.

Oh and btw I am British so for me it is “armour” not “armor” before any one jumps on me over it. :P

I quite like the axe, been loving it since i switched to a life stealing build. I highly recommend you guys at least give it ago. Nice weapon for when things get too hot in the melee and you need some breathing room.

My Human Necro is named after his great great grand-pappy Malaketh Dracul, who defeated an undead Lich, saved Canatha, defeated a fallen God, etc, etc, you know the shtick.

As for the name, well I thought of the first name a while back when making a my first character in Morrowind and carried the name on to GW1. As for his surname well that came from me relating the necromancer class with death, then undeath and finally Dracula (Dracul).

Funny fact though Dracul means Dragon, which is an awesome coincidence for this game :P

I know all professions fit all legions, the game is designed in such a way that everything fits, everywhere (one of the things I actually think is beautiful about this game). This is designed for a specific type of player who likes their characters to fit a particular mold if you will.

I saw a lot of people asking who fits where the best in the early days of the game, so this is why I made this thread. So people may simply look it up and go hey, my necro fits with say ash legion.

Just to clarify this is hear so that people are aware of conventions in the legions, not a set of rules dictating who should go where. Are we all clear? Good now get back to your posts cubs.
