Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
This bug still persists as of 2012-12-19.
I can confirm this bug as well when I wanted to do my daily underwater kills earlier today. Very consistent behaviour and easily replicated.
This is Fojja (I know, I’m so original)
did they fix runes of rage too?
I’m hoping they are also aware of Superior Rune of Dwayna not triggering Cleansing Water. Unless this one works now and was not mentioned either.
Has anyone checked this recently by any chance? I got myself a full set of Dwayna earlier today only to read on the wiki afterwards that it was bugged and did not trigger Cleansing Water at all; even though it should in my opinion (that’s what I bought them for at any rate).
They should just tie the 5pt arcane trait into the 15pt one and then make the new 5pt one elemental Attunement, or better yet just make it kittening baseline because every ele in the kittening game takes it.
Well, every Mesmer took Illusionist’s Celerity and look what Anet did with that.
It was an Adept Minor and they turned it into a Grandmaster Minor on June 25th for the sake of ‘improving build diversity’. And only with this patch on December 10th (almost 6 months later) did they bring it back down a trifle to Master Minor.
So in my humble opinion the day Elementalists will get a 5pt Elemental Attunement is the day Mesmers should also get their 5pt Illusionist’s Celerity back as well. But I fear we will probably have to wait another 6 months first and see what this balance team will try to push through next.
Now I may sound bitter when it comes to ANet’s balance team, but that’s precisely what I am. (and I’m still waiting for my Mainhand Pistol)
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
Light of Dwayna recipe showed up for me an hour or so ago on TP and I didn’t have one already in my inventory. So apparently it was fixed.
Going to wait with buying one though as the lowest price was 9g or so.
Cool, sounds like the direction I’d want to follow for my elementalist as well then! Thanks
Thanks again guys, I wouldn’t want to be viewed as a rallybot and some added protection would be nice as I’ll be familiarizing myself on how to fight.
So a good bet for me would be to go Celestial with either 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/0/10/30/30?
Can you guys tell me which traits and utility skills are commonly used by these builds?
EDIT: Durden, is that one of those classic bunker builds by any chance? I see the layout being 0/10/0/30/30 with full Celestial.

Hey again guys, thanks for your replies
My main goal in WvW would probably be to act as a form of area-denial when an enemy group is near a gate/wall and area-support when our group is near a gate/wall. So no 1v1 for me if I can help it, just support and bombardment.
I was looking at the traits some more and was wondering if the following could be used as a build or if there are any go-to traits that I might rather use or should avoid.
And here I thought it was my mouse that was causing it! Yes, for me there also seems to have some wierd behaviour going on when trying to turn; especially when in combat.
I also noticed the music selection being completely out of whack and I believe it started happening today (prior to the latest patch?). I got combat music during loading screens and character select and the main theme while transitioning to WvW as I recall.
Hey guys
Sorry if this has been asked countless times, but with the recent patch I was wondering if there are any decent WvW builds out there for an Elementalist with a Staff.
You see, I’m levelling my elementalist (lvl57 now; yay me!) and like the Staff very much. I also like explosions and fire but I’m pretty sure that I would kitten myself if I mainly focus on Fire.
As such I was wondering what type of gear, runes, traits and such I might best focus on.
Thanks!!
It does not appear to give you cogs or anything so it seems the stuff we had left over from last year has become useless.
You can still buy the glue and such from the TP but that’s probably ‘old stock’ from last year.
A shame though as I still have 200 cogs and a Toy Soldier frame in my bank.
Aw man, I saved all that stuff from last year. Think I need stuffing and glue… have cogs and frames.
There’s still stuffing and glue available on the TP from what I saw. For me it seems my toy frame is useless though as I only have 200 cogs and apparently no way to get more this year.
From the latest patch notes:
“Fixed an issue that was causing the Recipe: Light of Dwayna to become account bound.”
Thanks, ANet, for addressing this!
The ones people received prior to the patch still seem to be account bound though. And I can’t find any entry of the recipe being available on the TP at all.
Also, why are there no stats on it? Or are you able to select which stats you want after crafting one?
I’ve been jumping like a moron and clearly jumped over numerous shockwaves now, but it just will not register for the achievement.
I’m stuck at 2/5 and have so far wasted over 3 hours to try and get it to complete! Please check to make sure that this achievement is working as intended and that the registrating area is big enough.
It’s kinda sad that a Guardian can do the same thing with SY (60s) and be blessed with boons while Rangers usually just end up with a dead pet when using SoR (60s).
yes this class needs more dps hope they make it stronger soon
Have to agree as your warrior managed to kill it in half the time.
Just saw your other videos too. Ranger in 17s and Necro in 18s. Wow, so much for Mesmer dps.

Overall not impressed with this season reward as it was mostly just RNG junk and not even related to WvW.
Now that you mention “not even related to WvW”. Noone got any Badges of Honor unless i missed it. This is kinda hilarious.
Correct, no badges or siege bp’s or anything. Only thing related to WvW was that ‘Taste of WXP’. So it’s rather daft that this was supposed to be a ‘WvW Season Reward’.
Asura Megalaser!!!
I’m surprised you can see them with the forest of warriors blocking the view.
Basically this. The majority of enemy players I encountered were these warriors with stunhammers flying across the screen.
1st place silver league (Desolation)
-1 Mini Dolyak
- 1 Taste of WXP
-100 Dragonite Ore
-100 Empyreal Fragments
- 3 Scrolls of Knowledge
- 8 Tomes of Knowledge
- 1 Legendary Essence of Luck
- 8 green
- 3 rare items
- 1 exotic item
Overall not impressed with this season reward as it was mostly just RNG junk and not even related to WvW.
Meh, why not? It’s not like there’s much else to do in WvW. Might as well spend the time on achievements to have something to do other than farm bags (or be farmed for bags).
Besides, the rewards might be yet another box of RNG crap (as usual); but at least it may fetch me a gold or two on the TP. The limited-use finisher was a bit of a slap in the face though.
Still, I would have preferred something more related to WvW in terms of rewards. So instead of random green vendor-trash it might have been better to have Siege BP’s or something.
Ah, then I agree.
Yes. I was thinking we could do something like this:
WvW
- 10s duration
- 90s CD
- 15 charges, of which 1 is reserved for the Mesmer
sPvP
- 15s duration
- 30s CD
- 1 charge which regenerates every 3 seconds
PvE
- 25s duration
- 30s CD
- 5 charges, 3 regenerate every 5 seconds
I doubt ANet would ever consider a 15s duration on a 30s cooldown in sPvP. As I recall the main reason why the cooldown on Portal was increased to 90s (up from 30s originally?) was because of sPvP and the main reason the charges were nerfed from infinite to 20 (?) was because of WvW.
Veil and MI are mesmer god-mode in WvW.
Might be cool if they buffed MI somehow. Perhaps have it also apply a stack of confusion to 10 opponents in range.
because the name just screams confusion… lol
Well, wouldn’t you be confused if a group of enemies just vanished into thin air?
Bump for visibility as my Sylvari ranger would love to have a little Sylvan Pup.
As I would very much like to see Mesmers being able to wield a Pistol as a Mainhand option I wanted to post an different set of abilities; based on a suggestion by Crion.8465.
—-
I’ve been playing a Mesmer for quite some time now (and still love it, despite certain changes in the past), but it still feels as if the Mesmer is severely lacking in the choice for mainhand department, as if it simply wasn’t a fully finished class at launch in terms of weapon choices.
Only a Sword or Scepter remain as options for mainhand, which feels rather minimal; especially considering all the other classes. Only the Engineer seems to have even less choices, but can make up for it with all their kits.
Also, there are 2 illusionary pistols in the game; Lyss and Ilya. To this day this still leads me to believe that it may have been the original intention to include a pistol as an option for a mainhand as we already have it as an offhand option and a Master trait (Duelist’s Discipline) that affects pistols (plural).
Lastly, there is the pretty odd positioning of the Offhand Pistol skills when viewed from the weapon selection screen in our Hero panel and it all feels like theres a piece missing in our puzzle; as if it was originally intended for Mesmers to have pistol as a Mainhand option but not implemented at launch.
As such, I sincerely hope that ArenaNet would want to consider adding the pistol as a mainhand weapon for the Mesmer. Personally I would love to have more options available to me as the current choices simply do not seem to mesh well with one another.
(And the concept of finally being able to wield both Lyss and Ilya on my Mesmer is very appealing to me.)
So I would really love the choice of one more mainhand weapon that focuses on being a true Power based weapon. And to me the pistol could be that choice as a 900 range (1200 when traited with Duelist’s Discipline) weapon. This would allow ArenaNet to modify our scepter to take up to its own true calling; an actual condition based weapon.
Currently Jon and the rest of the balance team are trying to figure out what to do with the Scepter’s identity crisis and its very awkward auto-chain. Having a Mainhand Pistol would allow them to turn the Scepter into a true condition weapon while allowing the Pistol to become a viable choice for power based attacks.
For me having the mainhand choices of Sword, Scepter and Pistol would complete our puzzle and give us a full set of weapons where each has its own identity and function.

Desolation is also having extreme issues.
Jon Peters plays a signet warrior.
i fail to see any point behind that statement other then “it’s a dev conspiracy”
I play a tanker ranger, wanna know whats the difference between me and Jon?
He gets paid to play this game, i don’t. The profession you play doesn’t make you any more or less awesome. And signet warriors would waste their time with this rune set. Too little gained compared to what you can get instead.
Ofcourse it is. Warriors have gained nothing but buffs every single time when all other classes got nerfs. I’m still trying to figure out at what point Warrior suddenly got 5 stacks of Torment (12s every 15s) on their offhand sword and why.
The Warrior has been Jon’s pet project since launch and he is seen most often playing his Signet Warrior. And this new set will mainly benefit Warrior, Thief and Elementalist.
1+1=2
Jon Peters plays a signet warrior.
In my opinion Thieves will benefit a lot more as Rangers have pretty kittenty cooldowns on their signets as I recall (compared to all the other classes).
But we’ll see…
In my humble opinion ANet destroyed any viable use of Spirit Weapons when they removed the immortality.
When they were still immortal for the duration a Spirit Guardian was a rare sight as the build was very weak overall (due to the traits being all over the place). I believe I actually was one of the few who tried to make it work on my server.
Then ANet decided it would be a good idea to remove the immortality, making Spirit Weapons completely useless.
So then I was forced to change and made a Shout build with AH+PoV and survivability increased tenfold! Makes you wonder why the Spirit Weapons were nerfed so ridiculously in the first place as they were already pretty useless to begin with.
But yeah, nobody saw that nerf coming and as to this date I still have no clue what the devs were smoking at the time to push through with that change.
I guess it was a case of “Promoting build diversity by killing build diversity”
As the title states, please give us a Sylvan Pup Mini when the next batch of minis is released (or earlier)!
Summoned creature AI is a different can of worms that we aren’t opening for the same reason. Pets that delay F2 use isn’t some wait script we put into their skills it has to do with core AI behavior shared by all pets and creatures and how they decide tasks. Rewriting that has the risks of breaking millions of unknown things so we have up until now band aided the solution. It is something that needs addressing but won’t be addressed until we can kitten how and when we will test it.
Until the pets are properly addressed, and considering you guys want to keep them as core class mechanic, this whole thread is pointless band-aids. Right now you are balancing the class around a broken mechanic likely doing a lot of balance changes that will have to be redone once, if, pets are fixed.
I know I can only speak for myself here but this Ranger couldn’t care less about any of the balances you have proposed, if you fail to deal with the main source of issues for the class. I know it will be hard work and it might break a bunch of stuff, also it’ll be expensive to test. But you know what? I don’t care for excuses. If I read what you say correctly AI changes for pets would involve a lot of AI changes for other mobs. This is great! You should be using the task of improving pet AI to create much improved AI combat experiences across the whole game. Not only could you fix rangers, you could make dungeons more engaging, WvW guards more dangerous, bosses more active etc.
Stop with the band-aid balance solutions and skirting the real issue because it’s harder than your normal balance task. Everyone stands to benefit if you just take this challenge on and frankly some of us are getting pretty tired of waiting.
QFT!
I just find it funny that they can’t get it to work properly when in WoW pets were much better to use and responded instantly to commands.
When I told my Loque’nahak to attack, it would actually rush forward, stop briefly (crouch down) to perform a special attack when in range and keep on the target like glue; always trying to attack from the back. Oh, and they had an innate resistance to AoE, which helped a bit because their AI was stupid when it came to AoE effects (just like in Guild Wars 2)
In Guild Wars it’s like my pets are constantly stoned and have no clue what they are supposed to be doing and die almost instantly from random AoE.
So I think it would be better to give them an innate 75% resistance to AoE (which could then have a trait in BM to boost it to 90%?) and allow the F2 effect to originate from the player. The pet could then just have a short animation to give the illusion that it did something. Oh, and pets should have a small AoE Cleave on their attacks so they can actually hit their target.
EDIT: Oh, and Active Signets should affect both Ranger and Pet by default. It’s pretty ridiculous that we have utility skills that only function for our pet unless we actively spend 30 trait points.
Just my 2c

Sorry about the necro, but given the issues Jon Peters is having in figuring out what to do with the Scepter I felt it was justified because I’d like to provide a helping hand as well as a solution that could be to the benefit of the game and the Mesmer community.
You see, giving Mesmers a Mainhand Pistol would remove the issues you guys currently have with the Scepter’s identity crisis and its very awkward auto-chain. Having a Mainhand Pistol would allow you to turn the Scepter into a true condition weapon while allowing the Pistol to become a viable choice for power based attacks.
(And it would finally give Mesmers a means to wield both Lyss and Ilya at the same time)
For additional motivation I need only point to the post above which I made 4 months ago as well as the ones preceding it.
Jon, I’m still waiting for a Mainhand Pistol

My suggestion? Have ‘Bloodlust’ only apply to allied npc’ s like Guards and Lords. That way it will still have meaning without simply making all players of the most dominant server even more powerful.
Just a quick suggestion, but wouldn’t it be possible to integrate information in a similar way as the Personal Story has these ‘log entries’?
I mean the system is in place but hardly in use at the moment. But if it were to become an actual journal that can grow. You could even have subsections in for the Living Story entries as they are progressing, how they might be interlinked, peoples and places entries etc. etc. which could grow and become something of an encyclopedia and a history book of Tyria. Now THAT (in my humble opinion) would really add value to a true living story, as then you have journal entries within the game that the player can read through.
To be honest, I didn’t have a clue as to who this Scarlet was and why I should care. And I’ve been with you guys since beta and have played every aspect of this game every single day since launch. So apparently these tidbits just don’t seem to cut it, or their impact is so minor that the majority of people will simply not deem them important enough to store in their memory.
So an interactive and ever-growing journal/diary might benefit 3 separate aspects. For starters it will build on the already ‘Personal Storyline’ entries, it provides additional background information as to the ‘who is this, what kitten ed them off, what’s my part in this and why I should care’ and such and lastly it will give the player a sense of being a part of this world because the journal entries reflect their own adventures whilst participating in these story events.
Just my jumbled view on this (it’s 6am so forgive me if it sounds a little messy)
(offtopic) It’s awesome to see E. Roberts in this thread! The Wing Commander series was among my most treasured series of games I’ve ever played! Please also thank your brother for giving me such an awesome time and fond memories!
Roll guardian, it’s untouchable really by the dev team and community. Necro on the other hand…
I wouldn’t say untouchable. I still remember the nerf to Symbol of Wrath (10s→20s) and the nerf to Spirit Weapons (immortal for the duration→killed in ~2 hits).
But yeah, Guardian does feel like it is finally in a decent spot.
(Unless JP is just missing the Guardian Post-It note while throwing darts randomly at the nerf-board)
So I 1v1 a ranger in WvW yesterday and had to google how the heck this guy was disappearing every ~15 seconds. He won and let me tell you that crap is incredibly annoying for anyone who isn’t using a lot of DOT damage.
If you find that annoying, I wonder if you ever tried fighting a Thief who can go into indefinite stealth-mode whenever they want.
Ranger just has a “poor man’s stealth” on his Longbow which is more like a gimmick and not something that should cause you to lose a 1v1. Unless you were playing a character without any ranged weapon and the Ranger was kiting you around at 1500 range.
They should just keep SAB in the game permanently and should focus on implementing more sidegames in the cities like Polymock in Rata Sum, carnival attractions in Divinity’s Reach (wasn’t there a shooting range to open soon according to the npc’s?) etc.
Everyone is just confined to LA as if it’s the center of the universe (or running around as a band of rabid chimps champ-farming in Orr, but that’s something else entirely).
We need to give those people things to do throughout Tyria and the first step should be to have something permanent in every city for everyone to enjoy.
Personally I would rather see ANet filling in the blanks of the map instead of all this temporary content getting shoved down our throats every two weeks. Living Story is nice and all, but it doesn’t make me feel like I’m in a living breathing world. It more feels that I have to race through everything because in two weeks it will be replaced by something else. There is no consistency and we’re just rushing from one set of achievements to the next.
What I wouldn’t give to finally go through that door in Ebonhawke and explore the Crystal Desert. Or check out that fort with extremely powerful bandits in Brisban Wildlands. Or visit the Ring of Fire, just to knock on the Door of Komalie.
There are just so many closed off sections that feel like they were meant to be visited.
Next patch: Ranger signet nerf
Can’t sell anything on the TP either. Tried relogging but still nothing. Hopefully it will sort itself out soon.
Desolation-EU here.
Meh, going to play another game. Now hopefully ANet will realize that churning out all this temporary crap does not really work out. I’d rather have them focus on persistent additions to this world (start with that door in Ebonhawke leading into the Crystal Desert please).
Now I just need a Mini Caithe to finally complete my vintage Destiny’s Edge set, and a house to display them in.
Just checked up on the one near Altar Brook Trading Post in Queensdale.
From afar the chest was closed and could be interacted with. However, the gates were closed because an emissary was on its way. Did the escort and the gates opened.
Everyone rushed up and I heard the sound of a chest opening. But apparently I wasn’t allowed to loot the chest. So apparently the bug is that only the first person gets credit and everyone else does not.
Queen Jenna is one of the most (if not the most) powerful mesmers in Tyria.
The screenshot below was the original plan for the district; before it was hastily transformed into a giant sinkhole.
At least the quarter serves some (temporary?) purpose now, but I would have rather had a full Canthan district like in the screenshot.
Same here, very annoying
