Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
Sorry for this shameless bump, but I really believe Mesmers need a third choice for a mainhand weapon. And my personal preference is still a pistol.
Let me guess, the usual single zerg composed of every players of the whole map vs 25 RG xD
No, we’re not Arborstone.
Reposting one of my earlier messages from another thread:
After playing the Wintersday pvp event as the Scout, I get this longing feeling that this was how the Ranger should have been from the start…
So if there was an option for Longbow changes, I’d love to see Point Blank Shot changed/upgraded to Sniper Shot by adding a ‘hold down for more damage’ secondary effect. So simply tapping it would result in the ability we have now, but holding it would function like the ‘Sniper Shot’ as we saw in the Wintersday pvp
So for me I’d love to see something like this in the patch notes:
- Point Blank Shot: Changed name to Sniper Shot and now has a secondary effect. If you choose to press and hold to channel the ability, it will fire one shot dealing massive damage.
Next to that, I’d love for a ‘Camouflage’ ability which could be relocated it to a signet; like this:
- Signet of the Hunt
Active – Your pet becomes invisible (3s) and gain swiftness (10s).
(which would also apply to you if you have Signet of the Beastmaster)At least that would make Signet of the Hunt more useful because at present time the active ability is pretty worthless in my humble opinion.
At present time we have absolutely no abilities to disengage from a fight or use any real opener to engage in a fight. Camouflage would provide both as a means to escape or as an opener to start one.
Serraphin, I was talking about the fact that my Hunter’s Shot was obstructed and NOT applying its stacks of Vulnerability (which is also a condition). As such we couldn’t do 10% more damage because the game thought it funny to randomly obstruct shots so they don’t do anything; regardless if its condition or direct damage.
Or if somebody is bored, go attack a keep door and see how many times your arrows get ‘obstructed’ for no reason when you’re standing right in front of it with a clear line of fire.
Serraphin, kindly stop pulling stuff out of your … quiver when it’s pretty obvious that there’s an issue with the longbow and shortbow.
I’m also not sure why you feel the need to tell how great your condition ranger is at soloing supply camps as it is completely irrelevant to this topic (it’s 5 minutes by the way, not 2).
Fact is that the Longbow and Shortbow shots are getting ‘OBSTRUCTED’ when they shouldn’t; and that seems to be the point the OP is trying to make.
This isnt becuase you are a ranger the rat was bugged a would only take condtion damage. That is why your pet could not melee it. If you had switched to a sword you would have the same problem.
Maybe, but fact remains that we still get constant ‘OBSTRUCTED’ messages all over the place where there is no obstruction present. And that is especially annoying when attacking a buffed guild claimer (or any other target) in WvW and getting an ‘OBSTRUCTED’ on Hunter’s Shot (so no 10 Vulnerability stacks); even though it’s in the open, in LoS and within range).
Phantasm CDs seem to cap at 40% reduction.
Just out of curiosity, how would you bring them down lower than that? With the 5pt Illusions trait and the weapon 20% redux, I get it – is there another trait that I’m not thinking of at the moment?
Probably some people think Phantasmal Haste affects the cd because of the way its worded in the tooltip. Instead it lowers the recharge time of their abilities by 20% . However, I understand the confusion this might cause.
ArenaNet should really see this. It’s just too depressing to watch… because it’s true
Is your bear on ‘Avoid Combat’ instead of ‘Guard’? Check to see if you didn’t flip it by accident (check for the little red/blue icon)
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
It’s on a long cooldown though, and one simple interrupt/stun/sink/pushback/pull would have been enough to stop it.
That Guardian was an idiot not very smart if he didn’t even use his Weight of Justice on you. Apparently the Mesmer forgot he had Slipstream/Vortex/Illusion of Drowning. And the Warrior didn’t bother with Harpoon Pull.
So you deserved to live as your opponents were too stupid incapable to use their underwater abilities properly.
It’s easy to believe that something seems OP when you’re surrounded by idiots people that don’t even know how to use their own abilities to counter it. It’s like watching HS-spamming bandwagon thieves all day.

i’m gonna speculate they’re gonna try and fix the dead pet healing underwater glitch….
it’s absolutely game breaking underwater, and i rely on it constantly as a crutch in any bad situation (hey i’m losing, and it’s a 2v1? well i’m gonna try and last as long as possible so i’m gonna hop into that water and face-tank them, kill 1 and then force the other to rage quit in frustration)
Why fix what isn’t broken? Your pet is basically someone that’s reviving you. If your opponent shows any form of intelligence, they would know that reviving goes faster than someone dealing damage and that they should interrupt the one that is reviving.
That is all… But yes, it is kinda sad when we need to jump into the water as Rangers in order to stand a chance; because we’re pretty lackluster when it comes to fighting on land.
Jack of all trades, master of none. Unless we’re meant to only function underwater.

The pulsating sound is the fmod audio subsystem telling the user it is out of memory:
“When the FMOD mixer thread does an allocation and it fails, it is almost impossible to recover from this gracefully (because of the threaded nature of the system, there is no function to return an error from), and sounds would start to drop out. Because we think this is fatal, and leads to subtle or not so subtle audio bugs – the mixer now emits a pulsating sine wave noise to tell you it is out of memory.”
Alright, even though I have 8gigs worth of RAM I guess it could be possible in theory that this FMOD mixer is getting messed up somehow.
However, is there a solution?
Not sure if it makes any difference, but have you tried adding the doll frame first?
It’s very strange that you can’t create it as I created mine yesterday without any problems…
Also, was this the frame you got from the mini-dungeon or was it a frame you can buy for 250 socks/hats/sweaters?
Dear Deso… so you want to attack the weakest of the servers to make it easy for you to gain points, ok… but we’re only 5 people atm, why are you trebbing our last tower?! Please attack it directly. Its pathetic…
I’ve been on my Ranger in BT BL for 5 hours straight together with 2 of my guildmates and we were just roaming around with our favorite commander. A few hours earlier we were at Crag with some rams, then a golem. And because every time a 20-30 man zerg stormed out of the citadel, we chose to do a two-pronged attack with trebs and catas after that.
So to you it may be pathetic that we used trebs from the Garrison to take the other tower, but to us it was a proper tactic as we didn’t know there were only 5 of you left. We were expecting the same 20-30 group to come bursting out of your Citadel, so we set up trebs instead. You see, at that time there were approximately 15-20 of us left if I remember correctly.
Trust me, I have nothing personal against Blacktide at all. Frankly, when I meet you on the field, I fight as honorable as I can because I deem you a worthy opponent who fights fair in general (contrary to that other server).
/salute
I thought it was 70 for both of us? Don’t know i haven’t touched sig of stone since Beta (well that’s a lie i use sig of stone in zerg v zerg combat every now and again)
And they said they were going to buff up pretty much all of our utility (not all in one patch) so i’m excited to see what’s in store, maybe some love for my beloved spirits =D!
Signet of Stone 120s Recharge time
Passive: Improves toughness for you and your pet.
Active: Your pet takes no damage from attacks.Duration: 6 s
Gives 35 Toughness to the player at level 80
Gives 120 Toughness to the pet at level 80
Really hoping for some decent improvements; especially for the Signets.
There’s a bug with the rangers pets underwater where the pet will keep using lick wounds on his owner even after the pet is dead. This has happened on my ranger many times and has ticked off alot of invaders lol
No, the bug is that Lick Wounds doesn’t work at all at times and your pet just sits down next to you and watches you die.
So I’m happy that it seems to work underwater at least, as on land the pet flips a coin first.
Yes it is legitimately possible, and this is why:
You were too focused on your ‘badges badges badges’ when you saw that Ranger and you made a mistake. You underestimated your opponent, fought him in an area unfamiliar to you and allowed him to use his downed skills. That is why you failed to kill him.
The Art of War: Know your enemy and know yourself.
And that’s all the info I’m going to give you as my Ranger takes great joy in fighting opponents underwater (badges badges badges).
EDIT: Awww, other people spoiled it by giving you the answer. Here I was hoping you’d try to find it yourself and learn from your mistake…
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
If the fight on land goes sour, my Ranger dives into the water and turns into AQUAMAN!
Man, it feels like I fight ten times better underwater than I do on land. And even when an opponent downs me and I manage to activate Lick Wounds, they can only kill me if they manage to separate me and my pet.
My shark loves to cuddle me back to life!
But a lot of it is probably also a L2P issue. Not many people spend a lot of time underwater so they usually don’t have a clue what their abilities actually do so they’re just randomly mashing buttons. Next to that they’re usually swimming around with some level 20-50 junk weapon they never bothered to replace.
Personally I am happy that the sound and music isn’t over-the-top. If it were, it would just become annoying.
Now the music is like a gentle breeze in the background where the focus can remain on the game and not about epic hardcore festivals every step of the way or sounding like the second coming of Sephiroth every time a Firefly chooses to do battle with you or something.
It was probably intended to be subtle so you wouldn’t get distracted (and subsequently annoyed) by it. Because if it were, a topic bearing the title “Annoyed with GW2 Sound Effects and Music” would be here instead.
All your Caer are belong to us!

But as this topic was regarding the Longbow, I’ll just say that I’d love to see the ‘Sniper Shot’ as a secondary effect to the current ‘Point Blank Shot’ mechanic.
Yet I personally wouldn’t mind it at all either if Jon would also remove the active ability on our current Signet of the Hunt and give us something similar to what we saw with the Wintersday Scout ability (invisibility/swiftness).
At present time we have absolutely no abilities to disengage from a fight or use any real opener to engage in a fight. Camouflage would provide both as a means to escape or as an opener to start one.
I went to Tixx the first day that he was in LA and looted his chest. The next day (same character if that matters) I got mail from Tixx with almost the exact same items attached. I was confused but didn’t argue.
I believe the OP is talking about a second set of 3 Wintersday mails that people got today (01-01-2013).
I got the 3 regular mails, can’t recall one having attachments or anything…
On behalf of [HOPE] I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year when it hits your timezone. Over here in the Netherlands it is still 7.5 hours and ticking.
But be careful with firecrackers! You don’t want to lose a hand as you need it for WvW next year!
Agreed, pets (not just Ranger’s) are a liability at the moment that seriously undermines our damage output. If anything, pets need to get a (75% at least) passsive damage reduction against random AoE.
Imo the best bomb sigil out there. But should you put one on your lb or on the s/b cause of the faster fire rate?
I use both LB and SB and each has a Superior Sigil of Fire in it. To me it doesn’t really seem to make a difference. The SB might have a faster autoattack, but the LB has Barrage/Rapid Fire. Makes for a pretty spectacular fireworks show.
Besides, I rarely autoattack with the LB as usually my weapon swap is available once all my other abilities are on cooldown (and you’d want Fury from Furious Grip for the extra 20% crit chance on swap).
I myself use the Superior Sigil of Fire. And it works wonders; especially if your target decides to run back to his buddies and they all get whacked by my exploding arrows.
And regarding your crit chance; try using food and oil. I myself use the following:
With those two active, it gives you a nice bit of added crit chance and crit damage
Choose one thing? Alright, I’d have to choose one that applies to our bows as it diminishes our damage output significantly and can be summed up in one word…
OBSTRUCTED
Even on a clear field with my enemy less than 1200 away from me, I get these messages constantly. Heck even standing lined up in front of a keep door in WvW I get these messages.
Does anyone know if Anet has said anything regarding mini pets at all?
Sadly, no info at all as far as I know. I merely suggested the ‘mini slot’ as they had a similar slot in Eden Eternal. That way people could slot their favorite mini and it would always be around.
Ofcourse, the mini-pets in Eden Eternal had a secondary ability which would fetch loot drops for you. And some of them could even help in fighting monsters. But it was awesome to have my little Pug run off to fetch my loot.
Just keep in mind that if the game notices you to be ‘in combat’ while transferring maps and such; you will die.
I had this happen to me today when I jumped off a wall while the ‘Borderlands is ready’ message popped up. I clicked it to go there and ended up dead on arrival. As falling damage also puts you into ‘combat’ briefly, the game acted as if I wanted to escape a fight.
If you are out of combat and transfer maps, nothing will happen.
These measures were put in place because a lot of people were abusing Alt-F4 and similar ways to avoid death (and the hit on their armor + deny loot to their adversary) whilst in combat. So you can be certain that ANet is not going to change it back. And for that I’m thankful.
In my humble opinion I think it would be great to have a ‘Mini slot’ on your Hero panel. Then you can slot your favorite mini in that space (so it doesn’t sit in your inventory) and gets summoned automatically after every transition.
Hello
I figured I’d make this a suggestion, but I’m rather sad to see the Summon Golem Suit racial elite being so underpowered and short.
It feels like every random mob can easily down you whilst using it, and it seems to only lasts 60 seconds at most? And apparently the suit’s health is actually your health; so when it goes down you also get into a downed state…
So it feels nothing like in the video where the Asura jumps out of his damaged suit and streams fire at an opponent.
As such I was wondering if the Summon Golem Suit could be beefed up a little in terms of offensive and defensive capabilities.
Also it would be awesome if it had a permanent duration (until destroyed – kinda like the necromancer Fiend elite who sticks around indefinitely until death).
Not sure if that last bit would make it too powerful, but I find it very strange that an elite that’s supposed to ‘have a dramatic effect on the tide of a battle’ be so disappointing both in power and duration.
Badges were made for melee classes. If your range classes you get little to none.
Actually, badges currently drop for dps classes. If you’re a support class (you know, the ones that actually help the team as a whole) you get none.
Combined with the random drop chance the entire badges system is broken and needs to be changed in my opinion. Maybe apply badges to the objective reward?
through all of it, i say mesmers are the strongest class in the game. toe to toe vs each class the mesmer will win reguardless if they know how to play it.
Only against opponents who are completely clueless. And apparently there seems to be no shortage of those.
A Mesmer that doesn’t know how to play his class will die over and over again until he gets fed up with it and rolls a Warrior or Thief.
This issue also happens with the regular Halloween-themed tonics. Even though a lot of them are for sale on the TP, you can’t sell yours.
UNLESS! You buy one such tonic from the TP. Then it will stack with your old ones and all of a sudden (as if by magic) you can sell the entire stack O_o
Interacting with an object/chest should unstealth a stealthed Thief.
For example, me and my guildmate were fighting a champion in Orr. A Thief came running in (trailing a ton of mobs) went stealth and looted the chest (and left us to fight the extra mobs).
So next to the ability to troll other players and have a laugh, they can get free loot wherever there’s a chest. That last part is an exploit in my opinion and should be fixed as it is not intended to open chests that are guarded by powerful mobs and make off with the loot.
When you stealth and try to open a chest or something, your stealth should drop.
Make a Mesmer!
…oh wait…
I do notice a staggering increase in thieves nowadays whilst in WvW. And recently I’ve been starting to ‘see’ them run around in groups of 2-5 thieves on a regular basis when fighting against certain servers.
If this trend continues ArenaNet might wish to rename their game to Thief Wars 2.
Oppa Krytan Style
Guess it’s Elona’s way of saying Merry Christmas!
Oh well… You win some, you lose some. At least I managed to take down one of your gazillion golems.
Just give Mesmer a 25% speed signet already Jon. This ‘more reliable swiftness’ isn’t reliable at all.
It’s actually more like +2 on the stats compared to Exotic gear with an upgrade.
Ascended gear can’t have upgrades, Exotic gear can so the trade off is stat flexibility vs +2 and agony resist.
Sure some infusions provide added bonuses, but most are around +5 to a single stat.
Alright, let’s see:
Ruby Orichalcum Ring of the Berserker
+67 Power
+48 Precision
+3% Critical Damage
+25 Power
+3% Critical Damage
+15 Precision
Red Ring of Death/Crystaline Band
+71 Power
+50 Precision
+4% Critical Damage
+32 Power
+4% Critical Damage
+18 Precision
Upgrade Slot
Seems the difference between the exotic ring and the ascended one is:
11 Power
5 Precision
2% Critical Damage
Upgrade Slot
A little more than 2 points I’d say.
Also, at present time the crafted Infusion upgrades may only be +5 to a stat, but did you notice the Fine quality? What would those stats be when Mastercraft-Exotic-Ascended quality Infusion upgrades become available?
If money isn’t an issue then Exquisite ruby jewels are a bit better than ruby orbs
But you can’t put those in your gear as they only go in jewelry.
I think Lick Wounds actually has a better chance at working properly when your pet is downed; because he’s standing right next to you. Usually Lick Wounds seems to fail if the pet is still alive as it will run to you and then just stand there watching you die.
Maybe next time you should consider building/manning your siege in a spot where there is a low wall protecting you instead of on a cliff.
The Mesmer’s ‘Into The Void’ from the Focus is probably the only real method of providing effective wall supression and protect their teammates from getting chewed up by arrowcarts (and they can only use it once every 25 seconds).
You were simply manning siege that was placed in a very poor spot. Let me guess; the ledge at the SW road leading to the Garrison? Every Mesmer knows (or should know) that spot is perfect for pulling people off. But it still requires skill to actually place their Curtain properly to attain the desired effect
I did notice that at times my #2 didn’t seem to do anything whilst at other times it interrupts the target that’s trying to stomp you.
I love the #4 while I am underwater though (provided you get enough time to actually use it).
I’m not a Ranger; I AM AQUAMAN!
Imagine a LB/SB Ranger that can actually fight and defeat a DD/SB Thief! Sounds impossible right?
That’s what I thought as well.
But this Thief kept roaming around our sole remaining T3 tower in the Desolation Borderlands and I just thought ‘I may be just a little Ranger with little hope at defeating a Thief but I’m not going to cower in my keep’ and ran in to meet this Thief in a David versus Goliath battle (where I fully expected to die).
I want to thank the Thief player for this moment in making my Ranger actually feel powerful for the first time after dying so many times at the hands of Thief characters! This fight will always have a place in my heart.
In my humble opinion the current stealth mechanic is broken and would benefit greatly from an overhaul.
At present time stealth is too easy to come by and too hard to counter. Combine that with a dynamic initiative-system whilst all other classes have a static cooldown-system; add a bit of culling issues on the side and you have a recipe for disaster.
So my suggestion would be to remove the initiative-system and give the Thief class the same cooldown-based system as all the other classes have. That way there would be no more spamming of the same ability over and over again.
The initiative mechanic could then be applied as a bar that fills up over time; allowing the Thief to go into Stealth (or use a special feat depending on weapon) for a certain amount of time by pressing F1. Traits that focus around initiative would then focus on the speed/power of that bar. Steal would be removed as a result (but it didn’t make sense to begin with; I mean stealing someone’s wallet I understand; but stealing an ability??)
Then a lot of utility skills that provide ‘something+stealth’ could be changed as well. This could open up a lot more in terms of interesting utility potential and a more diverse way of handling combat from my perspective while making it a lot easier to balance as a whole.
TL;DR – Replace initiative costs with cooldowns and replace Steal with an Initiative bar offering the ability to Stealth or offer a special ability depending on your main weapon.
Are we back to throwing mud at eachother and making wild accusations, or is it really too hard for some people to at least try and show one another a little bit more respect and keep this thread civilized without moderator intervention?
Thank you and Merry Christmas; peace in the world and all that.
I’d like a 120-second timer to kick in upon death. Once the timer reaches 120 seconds, you are automatically teleported to your main base.
