Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
I have no musical ability whatsoever and I didn’t get a single note right
(I really suck at these ‘Guitar Hero’ type games)
Whilst the bows sure look pretty, I just can’t get around the fact that the stats are just wrong for the way my Ranger is set up.
And before you say ‘just transmute it to Exotic’; Legendaries will get a stat increase (as we saw in that accidental patch).
My Armorfish: Mister Grumpy
There are times when I reflect on the past and realize that I miss my Loque’nahak…
Do we only get to make the toy ventari minipet? Or do the other locations drop diff blueprints as well? o.o Also, the reward is account or char bound?
Check your Collections Tab in the bank
Each ‘City Dungeon’ will probably reward a different ‘Mini kit’. So from what I can see you get blueprints for the Ventari, Princess, Soldier, Golem and Griffon by doing the 5 different dungeons. As you only get 100 Mystical Cogs per dungeon, in the end it seems you will only have enough materials to construct 2 of them.
I’m probably going to make the Ventari and Griffon pets
I like the increased speed on the Signet of the Hunt, but its active ability is still awful compared to what other classes get. I mean, other classes get AoE Blindness or Lifestealing whilst we only get a whopping 50% damage increase on one autoattack from our pet. And we need 30 points in Marksman to get Signet of the Beastmaster so we too can get a pitiful increase for one autoattack.
So I’ll just keep it on passive and ignore that there’s even an active ability.
And I see Thieves are still walking around as gods in WvW, even more with their 50% stealth speed increase. So not only can’t I see them at all while they down and finish me whilst remaining fully invisible, they can even get to me faster. Nice balance… /sarcasm

You already have the ability to hide your back slot item. Just flip the checkbox on your (H)ero panel
(Thieves can use a bow by the way, almost every thief in WvW has one)
Don’t get your hopes up too high guys. That will only lead to disappointment
At present time the only way to obtain back slot items is through storyline rewards, random drops, Guild merchant or throwing a veritable ton of valuable crafting materials into the mystic forge. In my opinion, Fine through Exotic recipes for such items should have also been added to the crafting professions.
As such I would suggest adding the following recipes:
Tailoring: Books (or better yet: Capes)
Leatherworking: Quivers
Armorsmith: Spineguards
:)
Another one from me:
Mainhand Pistol for Mesmers!!
Armor professions ought to have been able to make backpacks from the start, books from tailoring, quivers from leatherworking and spineguards from armorsmith.
^ I agree! There should have been recipes for those from the start so they could be crafted.

You want a quiver? Make one.
I meant a quiver that’s either a skin (no stats), low level back item (like the Halloween books) or the ability to craft it via recipe with actual leather scraps through Leatherworking instead of dumping 20-70g worth of materials into some mystical forge.
A quiver back item (skin) for my Ranger alt. Heck, even a Leatherworking recipe to craft a quiver would be awesome.
What would you like for Wintersday?
I’m using Fire because I like big explosions that damage everything and everyone
Fix it so Rangers and their pets have an innate passive ability to see through stealth. Every class needs to have a counter right?
Not sure if this has been changed, but I tend to remember getting a tier of this achievement while leveling crafting in Lion’s Arch. My guess is that is the easiest way
Same, I was just levelling crafting on an alt and it just popped up. Didn’t expect that to happen, but it did.
Ah well, that achievement never worked properly anyway so I’m glad I got it out of the way.
Maybe make it that when a Thief gets damage, it actually breaks stealth?
I don’t mind that all 10% movement signets get upgraded now. At least it will make them a more worthwhile choice to slot.
Melee pets hitting moving targets.
Dog, wolf, fernhound, all bears, arctodus, murellow, all cats, pigs, boars, siamoths, all drakes, all moas…
Birds too? Hawks/Owls/Ravens/Eagles attempting to peck an opponent’s eyes out or steal their hair for nesting material is melee too right?
Nah, they’ll just charge 500 badges for one piece. They won’t add it to JPs
Correction: they’d probably charge 500 badges for a chest/bag that might contain a random ascended ring.
/sarcasm
:P
Using Mass Invis in PvE might cause issues when you’re fighting mobs as it seems they tend to reset back to full health if you are invisible.
So generally I swap back and forth between MI and TW in WvW. MI for roaming and getting the drop on enemy players by hiding our numbers; and TW for speeding up attacks on a door or against a Keep Lord.
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
preferably with either dual pistols
Sadly we can’t use dual pistols because someone forgot to implement the pistol as a mainhand option (I so wanted to have my Mesmer using Lyss and Ilya)
Weapon: Vision of the Mists
Issue: When previewed, Vision of the Mists looks as it should, but when equipped it shows up as two greatswords overlapping each other.
Well, I’m by no means an expert or anything; but this is basically what I currently use:
Next to my Greatsword I’m using Sword+Pistol as secondary set.
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
There you go. Only thing I could find for 20 pages that hinted at anything changes to Ascended items.
Yes, and that one was only in response to the way rings are handed out through RNG currently. I couldn’t find any hint relating to any potential cost reduction or alternate method to obtain the a quiver (or book) back item
At least stop trying when u see me there next time? …
Isn’t that Signet of the Hunt? That was not a mesmer on these two screenshots, that’s ranger.
You are correct. The first set of screenshots clearly showed a Mesmer from [EoW] inside the keep while the gates were still up. The second set shows a Ranger who apparently managed to get him/herself through the door. This could be either intentional glitching or simply an accident.
If it was simply an accident, then I have no problem with it. But I do have a problem with a Mesmer intentionally exploiting the game by glitching themselves into a fully upgraded T3 tower for a fast cap while the gates are still up.
So I’m hoping [EoW] will kindly stop using exploits to win. They’ve been caught red-handed at least twice now.
Thanks
it doesn’t just store user prefs…….
You know what else it might store?
Alright, I’ll keep an eye on it. At any rate it seems the ‘woo woo’ siren bug may be unrelated as I got it again just now
Not sure what you mean Mira. I renamed my old versions so they would not be recognized by the client.
And as you can see here, my latest Local.dat is already growing. Yesterday it was 1.7mb and today it’s already 12mb!
There really seems to be something wrong here, as a file that mainly stores local user-preferences shouldn’t be able to grow.
Figured I’d post this in its own thread as it appears the Local.dat file (the file that’s supposed to simply save your preferences) gets bloated over time.
Creating a fresh Local.dat file it starts out as a 72kb file apparently, but within moments it grew to 1.7mb. My older Local.dat file at that time had already reached 30mb in about 36 days; and the one before that (from launch till Nov.3) was 40mb.
I do not know why this file gets bigger and bigger over time, but it depicts a similar behaviour to some games that had savegame-bloating (causing them to become corrupted over time). Might the same be true here?
You see, like others I started having audio issues (woo woo siren) that caused my game to crash. But renaming my Local.dat (so the client gives you a new one) seemingly fixed these issues. Fixed, until a month later when I got the same issues again and found out my new Local.dat had grown over 30mb.
So to me this is a bug, as the Local.dat file should not get bigger and bigger over time. All it’s supposed to do (afaik) is store a couple of user-preferences relating to Audio/Video settings and username/password.
Tell me something… How can a thief stay invisible for up to 14-18 seconds?
I’m asking this because a few days ago a group of ~8 people fought 1 thief who managed to remain invisible for a very long time (my video showed up to 14-18 seconds at two points during the fight) and we simply couldn’t kill him at all.
Not only that, afterwards he was seen at ~20% health and shooting himself to the bridge, did his stealth-heal, and he had full health again 3-4 seconds later.
How do you fight something like that?
Sorry, but there are some serious issues going on and in my opinion it is not a ‘QQ moar n00bs L2P’ issue as clearly this ‘Revealed’ debuff isn’t working.
While I doubt the sound bugs are caused by the size of that file (they’re probably caused by some bug in the game’s code – my guess would be some sort of race condition between two threads, leading to the same sound file being played multiple times a few ms apart, leading to a kind of “stacking” / “echo” effect), it would be interesting to know if Arena Net has some explanation for the bloating.
Yeah, it might be something else entirely. However, audio settings/preferences are stored in that file. So I figured if it gets bloated to the point of becoming corrupted it might start to get caught into a loop and cause issues.
So I merely posted it here as these suggestions of setting audio back to default or setting it from best quality to speed didn’t appear to work for me; whereas renaming my Local.dat file back in november seemed to fix all my issues for over a month (up until my new Local.dat file got to 30mb)
EDIT: Seems the Local.dat may not be the cause as I got the siren bug a day after renaming my old Local.dat (which had already grown to 12mb in one day)
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
It only affects you if you’re in combat.
Ah, I see it now (guess I should have read Habib’s note better) :P
Thanks
Whilst I am very happy to (hopefully) see an end to all the Alt-F4 spammers, I was wondering about something.
Usually when I stop playing WvW, I log off at the initial spawn point (the one where you’re invulnerable). But will I die on the spot there too if I log off for the night?
I’d really like to hear if the game would also treat that as a ‘disconnect’ and kill me, and if I first have to go through the portal to LA or not before logging off.
But fix Rangers first in my opinion……..
Yeah! By giving them and their pets an innate passive ability to see through stealth up to 900 range
Just checked my Local.dat file and found out that it was over 30mb in size. The one before it was nearly 40mb.
So I renamed it in order to get a fresh one from the client, tweaked my Audio/Video settings ingame again and checked the new Local.dat. Now it initially was only 72kb but jumped to 1.7mb while I was looking at it.
See attached screenshot for more details.
At any rate, it does seem very interesting that a file that should (afaik) only save a few user-presets gets bigger and bigger over time. As such it may be that this dat-file bloating could be the cause of the ‘siren’ issues as soon as it grows beyond 30mb.
So anyone having these siren sounds, check the filesize of your Local.dat file. If it’s bigger than 30mb see if renaming/deleting it will fix your issues.
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
I’ve recently had this issue again. Initially it always popped up during the Jormag fight.
Fiddling with the sound to default and speed to faster and stuff doesn’t really seem to help.
However, I do recall that the first time I deleted my Local.dat file (the file that stores game settings). So is it possible that your Local.dat becomes corrupted/unreadable over time?
You see, I had no issues at all for about a month of steady gameplay. Then the ‘woo-woo’ started happening. Deleted Local.dat and had no issues anymore until another month of steady gameplay.
So it may be that the issue is caused by the Local.dat file becoming corrupt or something…
To those that are having issues, I’d suggest deleting their Local.dat and see if it helps (be sure to make notes/sceenies of your game/graphic settings though, so it’s easy to set your personal preferences again)
I agree that Ranger pets should be able to see through stealth. You might be able to hide from a regular person, but that animal will still smell/see you.
And as the Ranger apparently has a natural bond with his/her pet; he would also be able to track you. No need to make it an elite skill as it should be an automatic ability.
So my suggestion would be that a Ranger and their pet see stealthed targets within a certain range as a transparent image with the name (similar visual effect to how people can see stealthed allies).
Just had it happen to me today after a LONG period of having no issues anymore.
Originally I had it happen to me every time on the Claw of Jormag fight. It almost seems like the multitude of sound effects from the game ‘overload’ your sound drivers or something. Like it wants to use too many channels.
Muting GW2 prevents a crash and you can still use Mumble/TS/etc just fine. So it’s definitely something that’s caused by the game.
How about you wait until/if said change is actually implemented before drawing premature conclusions?
We’ve had our share of empty promises before. You’d think you’d have learned from that.
I’m not drawing ‘premature conclusions’ (unlike you apparently) nor do I need you to lecture me on what I should have learned or not. I merely posted two recent quotes from Jon.
“kittened if you do, kittened if you don’t”?
Take your own advice please.
^ and this!

“The spirits of the wild welcome you…”
Always wanted to say that
+1 for the suggestion to make the bond between Ranger and animals a more spiritual one instead of physical.
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
FYI this is slated for the 14th of December.
Seems pretty clear to me (at least for this one)
Basically change the passive on Signet of the Hunt from 10% to 25%. There is no reason why the Thief should be the only class with a signet that grants 25% movement speed as a passive ability with an AoE Blind on demand where everyone else needs to make do with 10% and a usually pretty pitiful Active (especially in case of the Ranger).
I mean, all Rangers get is a single +50% damage for -usually- one autoattack. And not even that, only their pet gets it (you know, that somewhat disfunctional appendage who can’t even get a proper attack in unless the enemy stands still!); unless you pick a Grandmaster (Signet of the Beastmaster) trait at 30 points in, so you can also relish in the ultimate power of +50% damage for one of your autoattacks every 30 seconds (provided it works) and at the cost of your already limited movement speed rate.
(sorry for the sarcasm)
So why should I be bothered to lose the precious (albeit small) speed bonus for getting one shot with +50% damage? If anything, activating that signet should provide a shot that deals damage more along the lines of OVER NINETHOUSAND!!!
So with those promised ‘quality of life’ changes (which apparently would include Signets) I really hope that this Signet of the Hunt will also be changed into a more worthwhile version.
he was until 2 months ago. testing that is. I remember him saying that something happened out of his control and he hasn’t been back for a bit. in other words, he wasn’t just invited, he was participating until recently.
he also mentioned that he was almost ready to get back on, had been reading the alpha test emails and was pretty excited about what was coming. he just dreads doing the massive write ups required with with the testing.
by the way, he did actually prove his claims, but I can’t go into details on that. it was sufficient to make me a believer.
I am so jealous of him I can’t stand it haha
Yep, lots of writing and providing numbers. But then again I always felt good about actually being able to do my part in order to facilitate changes to a game that the community in general would be happy with. And that’s probably the best reward anyone could ask for when they know they can be part of something and see their proposed changes becoming reality.
But I’m getting off-topic here. Let me just say that I sincerely hope that the Mesmer phantasms (among other things) will see acceptable changes on the 14th of december. This applies to all the other classes as well ofcourse as I’ve been keeping tabs on all the ‘known issues’ lists.
what makes you think they don’t have a test server? they do have a test server, 1 of my guild mates is a permanent invite on it. I have been very jealous of him.
This is not meant as an attack or demeaning gesture; but having a permanent invite and actually testing proposed changes (and providing feedback) are two distinctly different things
I participated in a closed beta (with NDA) of a Fallout New Vegas patch in the past which included a weapon rebalance. As a result, several weapons were rebalanced because we provided proper testing results and a sound reasoning on how those changes would affect the weapon in order to get the proper ‘feel’ for each (and having a direct line of communication with J.E. Sawyer didn’t hurt either)
So on behalf of us all, I sincerely hope your guildmate is actually testing and providing feedback and not treats his permanent invite as nothing more than a ‘bragging rights’ flyer without actually doing anything.
Not using any runes at the moment as they are way too expensive. Instead I use 6 Ruby Orbs
I use 6x Rune of the Centaur, which provides me with 12s Swiftness every 15s when using my healing skill (I use Mirror).
Theoretically it could provide 15s every 15s, but then you’d need to have 30 points in Chaos.
Would it be something to simply remove the F2 and give us something similar to the Warrior’s Adrenaline attack?
Call it Expertise or Focus or Concentration where it builds up a powerful attack every x seconds. For the Longbow it could be a ‘Called Shot’ or ‘Seeker Arrow’ where we shoot one powerful (unblockable?) arrow imbued by nature that slams into the target, dealing a lot of damage and applying Poison or something. Other weapons could then have their own ‘special’.
:)
To me something like that would work out a lot better than having pets that don’t respond when commanded to use their special ability (which are often pretty pitiful anyway).
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
Please test it with a Longbow next time. One test with pet and one without it.
Apparently for some reason it seems that Twilight and Sunrise are not counted as Legendary at present time, even though the weapons clearly state that they are Legendary.
Rumor had it that only Eternity was classified as the Legendary greatsword and would provide the achievement.
A silly notion ofcourse, as Eternity requires both Twilight and Sunrise in order to be created. And that’s not really a fair demand for an achievement as all the other Legendary weapons only consist of one weapon.
So I can only assume that this is a bug. The question however is why ArenaNet has never adressed the issue. At present time quite a number of people have created a Legendary weapon, yet every time I hear that neither Sunrise nor Twilight provide the achievement and medal they should.
As such I am hoping that ArenaNet will adress this issue very soon as they are provinding a disservice to those that went through all these lengths to craft their Legendary; only to be denied their achievement and title because someone apparently forgot to set the checkmark for these two weapons.
EDIT: Hmmm, I just noticed that the ‘Legendary Collector’ consists of five tiers. This might mean that in order to qualify for the achievement and medal you need to collect at least 5 Legendary weapons (if it’s 1 per tier). If that is the case, then I’m rather at a loss for words as even obtaining a single Legendary is a huge and expensive undertaking…
