Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
Whilst testing it against Karka on the island, it seems that the first projectile you absorb does indeed deal damage to you and is then stored in the Echo. All other projectiles however are reflected back at the source, and you can fire the initial projectile back at your target.
This is probably intended though; kinda like a ‘Mirror of Anguish’ style. You get hit, but can throw the part of the attack that hurt you right back at them.
However I didn’t notice it failing to copy the attack. Maybe it only copies if you get damaged by it? Were you by any chance immune to damage (through F4 or Aegis)? I can imagine that Mimic wouldn’t be able to store a copy if you were blocking or otherwise immune to the hit.
They should update the tooltip however, so people will know that it also provides Reflection. I didn’t see the value of this utility skill until others stated that it stored the first ranged hit and reflected the rest back at the opponent.
I still think they intended it too and decided it’d be easier to call the bug a feature and let it slide. Seems kind’ve pointless a trait that gives you 1-4 second reflection on a 45-60 second cooldown, when you are already immortal
Perhaps, and as a fellow Mesmer I would have loved Blurred Frenzy to receive additional benefits through traits.
But from a game balance perspective I have to agree that it would have potentially made a skill that can be used every 10s(8s) too powerful.
So in this case I would consider the change in wording from Distortion to Blur a good change. At least now we know it will not work work with Masterful Reflection and was probably never intended to work with it.
I really like your proposal Gaiawolf, it is a very elegant and aesthetic suggestion which could hold the potential solution whilst retaining balance at the same time!
It’s the same creative style I enjoyed to see (and create myself) back in my Morrowind and Oblivion days
Plus what are the plans for the turrets?
Turrets? Yes please! And if you are going to do something with them sometime in the future; please also consider the turret models to show ‘racial diversity’.
That way an Asura would have turrets resembling Asura technology, Sylvari would have turrets resembling Sylvari ‘technology’ (naturology?) etc. etc.
Still, it’s good to see the Engineer getting some potential attention. Maybe someday I can pick mine up again… It’s just that the current (technologically inferior as per Asura standards) turret models just don’t cut it for my Asura…
Please take a look again at Illusionary Leap/Swap (off-hand Pistol).
I trust you mean main-hand sword? Pistol only has the Duelist and Magic Bullet
Hey there Osi
Don’t let the grumpy old Mesmers get to you. These forums are a little tense for some since the last patch
(btw I tried Staff, but couldn’t get the feel for it. So I had to switch back to my trusty Greatsword for now) :P
Noticed someone on my server as well who was able to glitch animations on a Guardian. No clue how it is done, but it looked hilarious.
He/she could keep her blue dome up indefinitely as well as spasm greatswords into the ground and everything.
It’s interesting how Jon spends more time in the Mesmer section, rather than communicating with the Ranger community.
Not even an apology is considered.
But hey, that problem is in the past right? Not like anyone cares now.
I recall a time not too long ago when the phantasm mechanics were changed (nerfed) and the only post from Jon was … wait for it … in the Ranger forums regarding the lack of Ranger fixes.
So please don’t pull that card.
Thanks
(I have a Ranger (lvl80) and a Mesmer (lvl80) by the way)
Hmmm, I had this issue a few times myself a while back. Trying to sell again seemed to fix it, but it was rather odd.
Sorry for bumping this, but I really would like the devs to see that the birds of Tyria have now become freaks of nature.
Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.
With all due respect Jon, you never played a Mesmer did you?
Because if you did, you would see that your ‘balance changes’ have completely nerfed the class into the ground and broke the core mechanic on what makes a Mesmer a Mesmer.
I feel your pain guys. I have a Ranger and a Mesmer, so you can imagine how it feels to be a ‘master-of-none’ Ranger and a ‘nerfed-till-broken’ Mesmer
Going to add to this thread also then, in hopes the devs take heed.
This ‘double wing’ behaviour currently seems to apply to ALL birds; both pets and critters found across Tyria.
On Hawk/Eagle/Raven it is the most visible. The Owl model does appear fine when on the ground, but when in flight it also suddenly gets a set of ‘stabilizing fins’.
Rifles + Sniper = Warrior
;)
If this is true, I guess it’s gonna get fixed sooner than our phantasm bug, for sure. xD
Oh yes, of that I am certain. I estimate 12 hours at most for the Moa (and other transformation deaths) to be fixed and the Mesmer is back to the broken shell of what it once was
…well, they’ll probably fix the Moa, but they will ‘forget’ to fix the new phantasm bug (the one where they do nothing for 2-3 seconds when summoned) so it makes the Mesmer even more unplayable.
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
Moa is bugged now as of the 3 dec patch. It now causes people to die because it resets their defensive trait line apparently (taking away up to 3000 health).
So finally after all these months of oppression and nerfs, we can lash out at everyone and kill them with our Moa!
Now is the time to cry havoc and let slip the Moa of war!
;)
Thank you all for the reports. Our developers are aware of this issue and investigating.
Investigating? So does that mean another two weeks until it is fixed…
…that means…for two whole weeks…we can…
UNLEASH THE MOA!
Just noticed that these animation issues also apply to all the regular birds; not just the Ranger pets.
I assume you meant to write 6k instead of 60k? If it were 60k I’d be a very happy Ranger and put traps everywhere :P
Not sure, but it seems they broke the animations for our birds with this patch. When it lands, it now gets a second pair of wings and looks stupid.
EDIT: Apparently all the animations are messed up for the birds now. Even in flight it has a second pair of wings.
The White Owl isn’t doing it, but the Raven is, I’m slightly annoyed by this grin
Actually, they also have issues but they’re not as obvious. In flight, they also get an extra pair of wings (see attached image)
After today’s patch my bird pets (Raven/Hawk/Eagle/Owl) suddenly have a second set of wings and look stupid.

Did they break the ground animation for our birds? When mine are landing they suddenly get a second set of wings now O_o
If I had to limit myself to just one new pet, it would definitely be a Dolphin.
(Although I wouldn’t mind a Young Karka with that 10k+ attack as F2)
Another funny thing is that they made the Thief version higher in the last patch but didn’t bother to do the same for the Mesmer version:
Smoke Screen: This skill’s height has been increased to help it absorb projectiles.
Somebody from Iron can explain this please ?
10 minutes scale vennom ?
http://startcut.com/player/video/f7b762e03cd811e2ae9314dae9ef68f9
I added an short fraps to see is not icon bugg
if you cannot see it tell me where to upload it
Edit you can also see first screen he had it for 5 min then 10 min even if he was alone so was self buff, and from thief last 30 seconds or 3 attacksI believe there is a consumable you can buy that applies that buff for 10 minutes.
It only procs on a cooldown though (not tried it myself).it might be posible, that is why i didn’t made an report and cammed ask here, since i didn’t tested all consumables
He’s probably using this:

Signet suggestions? Awesome! I’m using Signets too, so let’s see…
Signet of Renewal
Passive: Cures a condition every ten seconds.
Active: Your pet pulls all conditions from nearby allies to itself.
Breaks stun
> Passive seems decent, but needs a better ‘Active’ skill. Now the Ranger will just kitten his pet when using it. Maybe offset the conditions by also providing boons (like ‘Save Yourselves’)?
Signet of the Hunt
Passive: Grants 10% increased movement speed to you and your pet.
Active: Your pet’s next attack deals more damage.
> Passive effect could do with some improvement. I’d like it to be more in line with the Thief’s 25% increased movement speed Signet. Rangers should be more mobile
> Very poor ‘Active’ ability that only applies a +50% damage to a single (auto)attack
Signet of Stone
Passive: Improves toughness for you and your pet.
Active: Your pet takes no damage from attacks (6 seconds).
> 35 Toughness to the player at level 80 is a very poor passive effect. Dolyak (Warrior) and Judgment (Guardian) have much better passives
> Active effect when traited is awesome, not so great when not traited
Signet of the Wild
Passive: Grants health regeneration to you and your pet.
Active: Your pet grows larger, dealing more damage and gaining stability.
> Seems fine to me. The regeneration is nice and the 25% damage boost and stability for 10 seconds as well
So overall I personally feel that Signet of the Hunt is in need of some buff. Same would apply to the passive ability on Signet of Stone, which is pretty poor compared to similar ‘damage reduction’ signets of other classes. Signet of Renewal should have a better ‘Active’ skill to offset the load of conditions being put on your pet. Maybe something similar as ‘Save Yourselves’ that the Guardian has? Then conditions would be pulled, but boons would be gained. This would also work better with the Beastmaster trait (active effects also apply to you), because no way in hell would I want to activate Renewal when I have the Beastmaster trait.

Funny that every time we get nerfed, others come barging in with ‘But you have portals’.
I hope people realize that a lot of Mesmers (myself included) wouldn’t mind the Portal ability to be toned down to 5-10 people max.
Well, you can already see through Mesmer clones. In fact it’s very easy to spot the real Mesmer.
I agree that it is a touchy subject though and I fully expect every Thief player to throw rocks through my windows, steal my garden gnomes and kick my hamster for suggesting it.
But think of it this way. At present time the Thief class seems to have free reign everywhere without any real counter. The Ranger could be that counter and make the Thief wary to engage if he sees numerous (active) animal companions running around on the battlefield.
Ever tried hiding from a dog (or any other animal for that matter)?
Besides, it’s not like it makes the Thief visible to everyone; just the Ranger and his pet. And if the Thief focuses on downing the Ranger’s pets first, the Ranger would no longer be able to see the Thief. So if he’s smart, the Thief can counter the Ranger’s ability to see the Thief by focusing on the animal companion. So game balance is preserved…
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
In my humble opinion, what Rangers need is the ability to see through stealth.
I mean they have a bond with their animal companion, and animals have much keener senses. So making them (and their master) able to see stealthed enemies would provide the Ranger with an effective and valuable counter against the Thief class.
Effectively it should work only if the pet is Active (so not when limping back) but it would show every stealthed target (within a specified range) as a transparent character with their name (just like you currently see stealthed allies).
I suggest that Ranger pets (and their masters) should see through stealth!
Effectively it should work only if the pet is Active (so not when limping back) but it would show every stealthed target (within 1200 range) as a transparent character with their name (just like you currently see stealthed allies).
That would make Rangers very valuable as scouts/spotters and finally bring an effective counter against the Thief class.

Some non-ascended quivers would be nice though.
True. Not only did I have to level my ranger to 80; but now I have to try and collect 250 T6 materials as well as 50 Ectos just to stop myself from pulling arrows out of thin air all the time…
Oh well, can’t have it all I guess…
We already have quivers that can be equipped in the ‘Back Item’ slot:

I personally believe the best way to fix this mess is to have phantasms behave as a summons; attacking what the Mesmer is attacking. Because my Guardian can still summon his Spirit Weapons just fine if blinded or use any of his other creation skills. Same with a Necro summoning in his pets, or a Ranger swapping out an animal companion or a spirit/trap.
Phantasms are not a physical attack that needs to connect, they are a summons and should be treated as such.
Besides, players can still dodge to avoid the attacks of phantasms. But they should not be able to prevent the initial creation and effectively shut down the Mesmer at the core.
I wonder how many people have Alt-F4 macro’d on their Razer
Still, I would love to see this changed so that even when killing the game; a character would still remain in the gameworld for 20s or something.
I have read that when a Mesmer is blinded and tries to summon a phantasm, not only does the phantasm fail to spawn but also the blindness is not removed (as it would be with any other attack) and simply remains.
Bag of Lunch Monies
You forgot the Ele’s signet of air.
You’re absolutely right. I’ll edit the OP; thanks
At present time I see 4 classes with a Signet that increase run speed as a passive effect.
Thief: Signet of Shadows
Passive: Grants 25% increased movement speed
Active: Blind foes near your target (30s Recharge)
Ranger: Signet of the Hunt
Passive: Grants 10% increased movement speed to you and your pet
Active: Your pet’s next attack deals more damage (30 Recharge)
Necromancer: Signet of the Locust
Passive: Grants 10% increased movement speed
Active: Steal health from nearby foes (60s Recharge)
Elementalist: Signet of Air
Passive: Grants 10% increased movement speed
Active: Blind your target and nearby foes (20s Recharge)
Now call me crazy, but why does the Thief have a 25% passive movement speed increase with an AoE Blindness every 30 seconds. Elementalist seems to have a similar AoE Blindness on a lower cooldown, but only a 10% movement speed increase.
Then the Ranger only has a 10% passive movement speed and 1 single pet attack dealing +50% damage (on a single target) every 30 seconds on activation. And lastly the Necromancer with a 10% movement speed increase with Steal Health AoE on activation every 60 seconds.
Do you think that this is balanced? Personally I don’t think it is.
Unless I’m missing something here, I would suggest bringing all passive movement increase signets in line with one another.

Weapon: Avenger’s Longbow (Sylvari Ranger Level 10 personal story reward)
Drawstring is too short and looks really annoying. A lot of Sylvari NPC’s use this weapon and the model is also used by the T2 cultural I believe.
They should have just given us a direct leap to target where we spawn a clone next to us or something afterwards instead of this mess we have now.
I have tried that thing numerous times, but it’s almost like 90% of the time that it fails.
So why should we bother with a skill that doesn’t work? Heck, just avoiding the skill entirely and just running to reach your target seems a much more viable method at present time.
My feedback? Focus on fixing the permastealth culling issue/rendering bug. Once that is fixed, you can work on properly balancing the Thief class.
Just a fyi, but Mesmers can’t use shields. So I’m guessing that was a typo?
Wait a minute, if these Mist Wars are being fought in the past; why not make everyone look like an (Ascalon) ghost? That should help the culling and still look somewhat decent, right?
Regarding the farming of rings on lowlevel alts, I do not see this as a problem. Mainly because only true level 80 characters can wear them, and you can only wear 2 rings. And then there is the question of this daily reward chest. Is this chest from the daily account-wide or per character?
So effectively (and please say if I’m wrong here), a lot of concerns could be mediated when the entry portal no longer checks for the lowest character in terms of setting the level of the Fractal, but the highest (or even select the difficulty manually)?
I’d be all for a mechanic where a group can decide which difficulty they want to run the Fractals on, but I fear they were not designed with this in mind.
From what I’ve seen so far (and I’ve only done these Fractals up to level 4 on a casual basis with 3 guildies) allowing people to set the difficulty level themselves could cause an imbalance and have a lot of people running around with 2 Ascended rings within a day. And then you’re right that nobody would want to do level 1-9 as it would be a ‘waste of time’ considering the difficulty-vs-reward.
Fractals != Explorable Dungeon
1. Your alt did not earn that difficulty, nor should they be ‘carried’ by your main.
2. Generalize much? Not everyone is in it for the loot and ‘progression’.
3. Maybe people should join a less self-centered guild then? I don’t consider 1-1.5 hours a ‘waste of my entire play time’.
I mean, it’s not like you have to boost someone from level 1 to 20 in one sitting, right?
Besides, what about the random drops, Vials and fractal tokens? Or do you define that as ’there’s nothing for them in it’ as well? Every time I run a set of fractals I’m hauling away bags full of items, including rares. Or do you mean that this diminishes the original dungeons? If that is the case, I agree. But then again I never figured out why (in a game that’s all about dynamic events) they had to put such archaic dungeons in.
Now I commend you for making such a detailed first post, but your follow-up gives the indication that some people still measure their timescale in ‘epics/hour’ or something where everything has to be obtained yesterday
(edited by Aveneo.2068)
I’ll say the same as I said in another thread, basically coming down to 3 words:
Lyss and Ilya
There are 2 unique illusionary pistols in the game, but each has a distinct name. The same pistols are being used by the iDuelist. Lyss and Ilya are the 2 ‘halves’ of Lyssa (who is basically the patron goddess of Mesmers).
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lyssa
So why are Mesmers not able to wield both sister weapons together?
As it is apparent that the Mesmer appears to be lacking a midrange power mainhand weapon it feels as if the developers initially intended the Mesmer to have a pistol as a mainhand weapon to begin with. But maybe they could not decide on a set of abilities that could be tied into it whilst still retaining the ‘feel’ of the Mesmer.
So I hope that someday soon they will be able to come to a satisfactory set of abilities and provide us with a pistol as a mainhand weapon.
Not sure if the rules on these forums allow for a petition though; but I’d sign it!

A book is a defensive item, designed to ward off blows(?). As such it has a defensive slot.
A quiver is an offensive item, designed to carry sticks with sharp points. As such it has an offensive slot.
:D
has anyone even found an offensive infusion yet?
