A cannon by itself will do decent damage to a zerg. But usually not enough damage to stop their counter attack.
Usually you need ground forces assisting your cannon where they protect you and you protect them. The enemy can’t reach you and you’re helping kill the enemy FAST.
It all depends on the situation. How ever. Two cannons alone have been known to be a zerg stopper.
Such power cannot be allowed without reasonable counters. They’re pretty much in a perfect spot and do not need any changes to them.
Mortars and Pot of Oil on the other hand are a different story.
Did your CnD attack connect with the enemy and you didn’t go into stealth?
If so. You must of attacked from stealth recently and received the ‘revealed’ debuff preventing you from stealthing for 3 seconds.

The main issue is its completely arbitrary on how long your stuff lasts, and just off attrition you’ll lose stuff, and have to spend so much time refixing them (again, AFTER they break, you can’t just repair them after the fight). And good luck if someone decides to walk by as you’re fixing stuff, cause then they can just AoE it and break your thing again, wasting your time and supplies and now you have to wait 5 minutes for the thing to be repairable again.
Really, at this rate you’re better off just ignoring walls and waiting for the doors to break down and throw your zerg against theirs, can’t think of anytime I defend (and I pretty much always do) and thought “Man! Thank goodness for the cannons and mortars!” No its often “Good thing we had more people in our zerg then they did! I feel sorry for the guy who paid for the cannons and mortars.”
Funny thing. Today I was defending SM with an imminent zerg incoming. I quickly jumped on a cannon to try and get a few pot shots out.
Forcing the enemy zerg to retreat from the combined effort of cannon fire and ground forces. The next thing the enemy did was extraordinary.
The enemy zerg decided to abuse the rendering bug mechanic by using a mesmer portal to advance towards SM’s gate. I couldn’t see any of the enemy, but I saw the exit portal appear.
Guess where I aimed my cannon.
Numbers started flying like crazy and I managed to get 30 loot bags pop up near instantly.
You really do underestimate the usefulness and power of cannons.

I agree that pot of oil in its current state is kind of useless as it is. Being able to repair that wouldn’t be so game breaking.
Cannons on the other hand are too good as they are. No need to make them even more powerful.
Sounds like a great idea. Too many times I’ve gone into WvW and find myself on the wrong character for different situations. Probably will never happen though.
I’d say because D/P is a terrible weapon set at the moment. If you’re going for melee damage. You may as well go D/D so you can CnD your way to a back stab.
Stealth (mug) + CnD + Back Stab is where the damage is at the moment.

The only real solution until they get the rendering bug fixed is to break the staple of the thief profession by adding a 5 second cool down to CnD.
Another temporal solution could be to up the initiative cost of CnD but negate the cost if it doesn’t land.
It’s pretty simple a class or in the case of this game any build of any class should. Either have burst and be easy to kill or hard to kill and have no damage or somewhere in between. Can’t have both. The problem with thieves is that they can stealth when fights turn south vs them, burst fine but if you don’t kill me with the burst you should not be able to run away. It really gets old when I have a thief beat only to have him stealth and be out of range by the time he reappears. Heck I think even without stealth they can get way just with speed.
The problem with thieves is toughness and vitality doesn’t really help them too well. I ran toughness and vitality as a thief for while to be destroyed by burst and outlasted by non-burst. Went full precision, crit and crit damage gear to have a fighting chance against those with exotic gear.
Thieves really don’t have much of a choice. They’re made to deal high amounts of damage and be squishy.
All thieves can escape easily. Not all thieves can kill easily. I’ve run into a lot of bad thieves that jump on the band wagon because they got killed by a good thief.
Mesmers on the other hand. I have problems with every single one of them. If it’s not unbelievably damaging phantoms. It’s exploding clones, retaliation and/or confusion. Add to the fact with the stealth render bug, you’re going to have a hard time trying to locate the mesmer. By the time you’ve found them. You’re almost dead while they’re still full health.
I never have to pay for repairs in WvW.
Either I don’t die at all or I use one of the numerous repair canisters I keep getting from black lion chests when my armor is all damaged.
So I don’t really find a problem with the death penalty.
I just hope our queues stay reasonably short. I wouldn’t want the HoD nightmare of 4 hour long queues. Not really worried what tier my server is.
WvW is great because it provides an opportunity for all kinds of play styles. Some folks like to run around in giant zergs rolling over everything. Others like to run in small groups, or solo. Others yet like the challenges of a jump puzzle and the PvP that goes with it.
While I appreciate that not all aspects of WvW appeal to everyone, I think it is important that they are there. I for one love the jump puzzles, keep them as they are.
It’s not great because it hinders the world. WvW is GW2 version of open world PvP. It should remain as such. Jumping Puzzle PvP needs to be moved somewhere else. WvW has a player cap, so a waorld can’t be at its best if people are off being “special”. There are zergs and smaller groups that are effective in WvW. Those sitting in the jumping puzzle are effectively trolling against their own world.
Again, loving jumping puzzle PvP is fine, but it shouldn’t be the reason to join WvW. It needs to be moved to another area like Heart of the Mists.
Of course the more radical solution is to just allow me to gank players in the PvE zones. Then I might agree to all these “playstyles”. Currently only the main PvP zones(WvW) are affected by such bs.
I think jumping puzzles with PVP enabled comes under the world PVP description.
Though sieges being placed in the jump puzzle really need to go. PVP needs to stay there to add flavor to the jump puzzles in WvW to set them apart from the ones in the PVE world.
Running the gauntlet and fighting people in jump puzzles is fun.
Running into a brick wall isn’t.
Least I’m having fun clearing the maps on my alts.
Needed the last vista and poi at the Jerri tower and IoJ were being stubborn in handing it over. So I made a couple golems and waved for people to come over. 2 golems turned to 4 and a zerg. Then we stormed IoJ’s last stronghold.
Good times.
Daggerstorm isn’t over powered. Remember. Stability doesn’t protect against immobilize.
All the times I’ve used daggerstorm in a one on one situation. It does horrible damage and I’m a glass cannon crit spec. I’d rather use guild of thieves.
If I see a thief trying to use daggerstorm on me. I simply shadowstep TOWARDS them, immobilize and spam melee. Dead thief.
Running away from daggerstorm is never a good idea. That’s probably what most are doing wrong.
I’m also one who switched from P/D to S/P.
I got pretty much fed up of doing slow damage against burst users. Constantly fighting for my life and getting little in return.
Even my shortbow does more damage than P/D.
I don’t really understand why any one would not slot in SoS. It seems as mandatory as shortbow for thieves.
For close combat brawls/duels and dungeon runs I could see SoS not being useful. But for WvW it is a must. Can also be quite important in sPVP in reaching objectives faster. Not to mention it saves a lot of travel time in the PVE world.
2 seconds of swiftness from dodging is really nothing. I barely notice it. The only time I spam dodge for the swiftness is when I’m using it and infiltrator arrow for out running the enemy or supply runs.
I thought Shadow arts was good. But trickery and acrobatics are a must after trying it out.
Extra initiative, extra dodging, extra protection against fall damage. Can’t live with out it.
So yes Sir , cloack and dagger stealth is spammable
I wonder if you know that , when you get out of stealth there is a debuff that immunes you to get into stealth again for a while.

you only get the revealed debuff when you attack from stealth.
if you do not attack while stealthed you can IMMEDIATELY restealth. and with reaction times being what they are and the thief knowing the timing it is effectively stealth back to back.this is how we hold supply camps solo with 20 people in them for minutes at a time.
The point being. The skill isn’t spammable if you have to time it right.

So the other day I was making my way through the Eternal Battlegrounds jumping puzzle. I figured I would grab some free siege for next week since there is absolutely NOTHING to do in WvW atm (were winning by like 300k boring).
Anyway I get all the way through the puzzle and come up to the chest and to my shock there is a crap ton of siege stacked on it. Was something like 4 Balistae, 2 catapults and a flame ram.
I was actually kinda shocked because it was siege placed by my own server mates. Why would you troll your own server like this? Do the people who do this have no life? At this point people are trying to get the siege for next week when we will need it. Why would you make that hard?
Or maybe its people from HoD or ET who transferred over to troll us since they cannot even get into the Eternal jumping puzzle. Dunno regardless it should be fixed.
Anyway took me like 15-20 mins just to figure out how to open the chest because of the stupid F key prioritizing the siege.
A.Net can you please maybe make it so people cannot place siege on the chest? That’s just lame and a not fun for those that finish the puzzle.
That’s not really as bad as when your server owns the entire of EB and there are people killing players from their own server with flame traps and placing siege in difficult jump spots so you cannot see where you are jumping.

Usually when the corpse sitting on the ground is spying and not returning to spawn. We give them incentive to do so.

Secondly, Anet needs to respond on the current way Thiefs are, because if they even remotely hint that they are balanced, I am rerolling one.
I’m a thief. I’m one of those who is still enjoying the gimmicky pistol whip haste spam (got tired of killing so slowly as pistol/dagger). Thus you’ll hardly see me in stealth abusing the render bug.
How ever. I smile every time I see a thief doing the cloak and dagger trick. I whip out my shortbow. Start spamming clusters which really hurt with my class cannon built. 5 seconds later I see a thief with a downed icon on them. End of thief.
What scares me lately are the glass cannon instant steal+backstab combo thieves and warriors with kill shot. Thankfully they nerfed assassin’s signet, but still easy to be instagibbed by thieves using that combo. The warrior’s 18k kill shot is a pain if they are where you can’t see them and they can see you. Especially with player culling.
A thief who is toying with you with the cloak and dagger hopping should be the least of your worries.
I disagree. Yes I lose quite a bit of damage going CnD stealth but I still put out quite a bit of damage. How? There is a small window at the end of stealth that allows you to backstab and not have the “revealed” debuff. This allows you to backstab and CnD right after~

How close was this engineer to his spawn point and how long before you saw him again? Did any of you get a hit on him before he disappeared?
I don’t mind a repair cost.
I mind there is an option to instant waypoint out of a dangerous situation, change to town clothes and logging out upon downed state to avoid it.

An example is the borderlands puzzle that has been broken for 2 weeks and counting with no response as to why or when it will be fixed. Things like that.

/me is used for doing your own emotes and as you may (or may not) know the enemy can see any emote you can do, so just add anything after it and it comes out in the emote style text
“servername invader <text>” is what it shows as
/me emotes don’t work unless they’ve recently changed it. All the enemy sees is “Servername invader gestures.”
That’s it.
I once had an enemy desperately tried to communicate with me using /me to no avail.
While I quite enjoyed the battle at DB Garrison today, (40+ kills from flinging people off cliffs is beyond enjoyable :P) I wasn’t impressed to find out the rumors that Maguuma and SoS are double-teaming DB are true. Though I accept that any tactic is a valid tactic, and will accept defeat as graciously as possible, I’ve certainly lost a lot of respect for both of them.

From SoS point of view from early this morning.
After owning the entire EB. Maguuma started to take back their towers and keeps. Had some fun battles there. Let them take back their area. Then put the breaks on their zerg once they hit wildcreek.
So Maguuma decided to go hit Dragonbrand’s side of the map (which we currently owned). Had a few skirmishes with them there before we noticed Dragonbrand starting to take stuff back. We decided to mostly abandon the towers and keeps at the Dragonbrand side of the map to simply let Maguuma and Dragonbrand fight.
After a while we were back at Mendons fighting Maguuma when we saw our keep being attacked. We first thought it was Maguuma, but to our surprise it was a huge zerg of Dragonbrand that went straight for our keep. Not even Maguuma dared to try such a bold tactic.
I pretty much logged off after helping fend Dragonbrand away from SoS keep. I can safely assume those left didn’t take too kindly to having the keep directly attacked.
The simple explanation is. You guys poked the beast. Nothing double teaming about it.
I enjoy Thief hands down.
Simply for its ability to out run zergs and able to escape easily.
They weren’t really camping there. Some one announced in map chat that they were offering free mesmer portals to the end of the puzzle.
Naturally half our server piled into the EB puzzle awaiting for the mesmer who was only half way through the puzzle. Thus the bored people waiting killed any one who was around at the time.
You just came at a very, very bad time.
As a thief since head start.
Mesmers give me the most problems with their confusion, retaliation, stealthing and clones.
Followed by warriors if they catch me by surprise with their spin to win – thousand blades haste combo.
I have no problems with other thieves. Especially dagger thieves. Though the rendering bug makes them appear invisible for longer periods. You just have to learn how to kite them when they stealth, because they’re always going to try and get in melee range with you whilst a stealthed mesmer wants to get away from you to bombard you from afar. Once thieves are out of stealth. Immobilize is your friend.

I can’t believe there are people brain dead enough to realize this isn’t what happens every week. It’s really pretty kitten simple, one server gets a slight lead during the weekend after reset, everybody then transfers and steam rolls during the week days.

Listen, noone is transferring to your server. We play at different hours if you have not noticed yet.
I don’t think they understand people play from different countries and time zones yet.
Every one must be online playing when they do and any one playing whilst they’re asleep are dirty cheaters.

Obviously the mesmers. Eles will waste their AOE on their invisible clone army.
This is a terrible idea.
Not to mention you already have the puzzle chest all to yourself if you own all of Eternal Battlegrounds.
If a thief misses their Immobilize + haste + PW combo. They are down for. They have no dodge. No stealth (other than heal). Lay into them. That is their counter.
You know, there is already a way to see people’s names and even message them. All it takes is 2 seconds.
So. I feel it is kind of pointless to hide people’s names after discovering that.
Especially when Anet goes around slapping people’s wrist for calling out a server instead of an individual when it comes to hack usage. How are some suppose to know any better when all they see is “Server name invader/defender” as the hacker’s name?

Same here. Got both keys and door won’t open.
I had this same problem and the server I’m on is ranked 2nd place. It was a pain to do the puzzle and visit all poi; vistas and skill points. Getting 1shot by thiefs; or ambushed by zergs. To anyone that is considering doing this solo I advice you take off all your armor and runaround the map naked. It will save you loads on repair costs cause death is lurking around every corner.
I have no problems with the boarderland puzzles. They’re easy.
Eternal Battleground puzzle how ever. The campers don’t care if you’re naked, they’ll still kill you endlessly as they are there to farm badges of honor because they’re awful at getting it any other way in the actual WvW warzone area.
4 teams will fix it.
People jumped ship to the winning side or lost interest obviously.
Go control the map and win while the enemy wastes time, siege, resources, and players in the jumping puzzle.
You think they’re going to leave if you provide them a constant stream of entertainment and badges in your pitiful attempts to unseat them?
That would involve transferring to a server that’s dominating. Which probably what people are already doing to get around the campers. Join their server.
EB Puzzle is broke. Fix it.

The well and the crystal? Nah, that’s easily counterable. Just go for the stealth buff. Sneak up pass the crystal. The well how ever. Once you get hit. Just make a run for it or zerg them.
