CHIPS, what you are seeing is probably Jedbacca and SF. That’s the strat they use when the camp is going to absolutely be flipped and they know its not savable. they will drop rams and waste supplies to deny the enemy a nice camp. last I checked the yak can walk thru anything,

But it has to be spies. CHIPS has undeniable proof in the screen shot! You can see them lurking in the background! They’re all hiding in the big present box. Waiting to come out when you turn your backs!

I’m 800 hours in, have yet to find any grind that I’m forced to do.

It’s all a paranoia of people who’ve been ruined by traditional MMO into thinking every game is a grind.
Those people see basically anything that requires more than moving one finger as a grind, there is little we can say to help them.

Name 5 things to do at 80 that’s not a grind then please.

My first line of binds is 1,2,3,4,5. No problem.

My second set is C,Q,E,R,T. If you can play piano quickly with that. You are a master.

Keys have dual binds. You can keep both CQERT and 67890. That’s how I could both play with my normal binds and keep the original for the bells.

That’s actually a good point. Didn’t think of that. Still not my cup of tea though. Got my title with out even finishing a song in the choir. I enjoyed the other events more.

Especially when I got the rest of my tonics under 5 tries. Karma bites hard man.

I’m half way to the ultimate technician title for repairing walls. But it has come at the expense of people raging when I use fully upgraded SM supplies to repair walls.

Can SoS commanders please try and tell players not to exploit into other servers spawn areas. There are literally 8-10 SoS constantly jumping into our spawn up by the portals on SoS BL right now. I know there’s not much they can do, but if they hear about it, please tell them to stop.

Main offenders at the moment are players from AFS and QH. Quaggan heroes and I forgot what AFS stands for.

Question: Why is it an issue/bothering you?
You’re all invulnerable in that zone

It’s not an area in which they should be in. They’re lying there dead, where we spawn from, and they can tell everything we are going to do out of spawn before we do it.

i.e. We want to exit left to hit south supply, they know before we’re there. We want to hit SW or SE supply, same deal. It’s basically like exploiting to scout.

It isn’t game breaking, but is an exploit and it’s annoying players on the server. We’re not asking a lot, just that you try to advertise that players shouldn’t be doing it. Whether or not it’s a big deal or not, that’s up to you I guess.

Another “legitimate strategy.”

Kind of clever. But in poor sportsmanship.

No qualms with anything you posted besides:

Erm, since when? I’m sitting on multiple perfect scores, mostly high and middle parts, and I haven’t touched my key bindings once. The only thing that gets changed when I do that minigame is camera angle. I know quite a few people, myself included, really enjoy this game, even though it lacks song variety. Lag aside, and I mean no offense to anyone, it just seems like the people who don’t enjoy it aren’t willing to put the time into figuring it out.

I still have a ghost tonic. Some guy thought he was good with the mad king. I whipped out the ghost and he started crying how OP it was after I took his crown from him twice.

Before the update. One of the popular things I found when going through the jump puzzles is when you manage to reach the campers and down them. Most of the time they would alt+f4 out.

Now that you are instantly killed by alt+f4/logging out. I’ve noticed a great deal less people camping the jump puzzles.

Makes you think.

I find it’s a real kick in the teeth to those wanting to queue up for another map whilst you’re playing in another.

Queue pops up in front of you face + random mob hits you when you click accept = instant death with repair bill.

@Niacin – Basically they are bullies. You will hear millions of justifications but at the end of the day they want unequal setting so they can be a jerk to others with little or no reprisal or consequences. Every PvP game has these kinds of griefers, we just have to live with them. And this is why PvP communities get such a bad rep.

And you my friend just sound like another precious carebear scrub.

I have 5000 kills at this point and 500 hours into wvw. But thank you for proving my point.

That doesn’t wash away the fact that you still sound like a precious whining scrub.

If you decide to play in a borderlands whilst waiting for another or eternal battlesgrounds for example. Then get into combat with some random mob as you hit enter to join the queue that popped up in front of your screen = automatic death.

I’m loving this new auto death system already.

As I responded to the last thread on this. Probably lag. On your client, you’re jumping normally. To the server, you’re walking off a ledge.

And, as I responded above (read the post above yours), that would not produce these symptoms, even assuming IP didn’t have a way to reorder packets and ensure they’re applied in order (which it does) and assuming GW2’s netcode didn’t have lag compensation built in (which I’m sure it does – as do virtually all games made in the last 10 years). The server can look at packet timestamps and know what your client was seeing even if you have high latency.

The lag would apply equally to your fall and to the server’s command to show you a loading screen. In other words, you would simply lose control of your character (ex., a short client freeze), then see it fall off, and then get the loading screen. If the command to teleport you is reaching your client, then the update to your character’s position would also be reaching your client.

This doesn’t happen in any other jumping puzzle or anywhere else in the game.

Also, “lag” wouldn’t explain how a player can get knocked down on a platform (see video above), when there is nothing nearby with the ability to knock down players. The game is clearly applying an effect to the player that was not meant for that player.

BTW, what you see other players do is not a reliable representation of what they’re doing or even of what the server thinks they’re doing. Consistency is only maintained between the server and each client, not between different clients.

You really don’t know what you are talking about. When some one is lagging to the server, you see them rubber band a lot on your client whilst on their client they are walking normally.

Ever wondered at times when people fall to their death, you res their body where you see them and once ressed they teleport to another location? The new location is where they were on their client, but where you saw them is where the server thought they were.

This is desynchronization.

I watched your video, you were jumping normally yes. How ever the server didn’t think so and teleported you because it thought you were walking off the ledge. Usually desynchronization isn’t usually a hassle until you get to places where you can fall off cliffs to your death. You could be walking/jumping normally on your client, whilst the server is showing you walking off a cliff to your death. Thus whilst walking/jumping normally, the server reports back to your client that you just fell to your death and you suddenly die. In this case, falling to the bottom and teleporting back to the start of the Winter Wonderland puzzle.

Argue all you want. But this is pretty much what is happening. Lag is definitely a factor in this. As this has only happened to me once in 300 runs of farming this puzzle for presents.

No, it’s not lag. If it was lag, you’d still see your character fall, only with a delay. This doesn’t happen anywhere else, only in this JP.

I’m almost sure the bug has something to do with applying the teleport to the wrong player. I say that because one time I genuinely fell from a platform and was not teleported to the lobby. I just fell all the way to the ground and died. I bet when that happened to me, some other player got teleported without falling.

Also, the video above shows a player being knocked down on a platform, which again seems to suggest he’s being “hit” by something that was meant for another player (ex., maybe a snowball, being thrown at a different player the lobby).

Looks like some bug in the JP is confusing player IDs.

Has happened to me once in this puzzle. But having seen a friend lagging badly a while back, some weird things can happen where your client and server desync with your character’s position. Such as walking off a cliff to your death whilst still on top of it.

You don’t see yourself walking off a cliff on your client, but others will see you doing so.

JQ is so far the only server that stood since release in Tier 1, I don’t know why are we still holding there.

That is impressive.

I know looking back on the matchups history SoS hasn’t lost for the last 3 months. I do remember losing very badly right at the beginning. We got stomped badly by IoJ for a couple of weeks.

Before that when one week battles came into play, both IoJ and SoS were spawn camped by ET for a week along with the fiasco that followed.

Seriously,what are the ods for that to happen.

Considering the game has been dropping people’s connection to the server constantly today. Pretty good actually.

The time limit they give you is actually quite generous. Out of the 200 runs farming this thing. Health draining away is a non issue.

If you’re having trouble with people jumping in your way, just hang back a little or if you’re good – over take them. This puzzle is very forgiving time wise compared to the clock tower.

Anet even made THREE. Yes. THREE starting paths so that the mob of people wouldn’t be so blobbed together to prevent seeing where you are going.

You have to give Anet credit where it is due.

As you can, people being in your way is a non issue as demonstrated in the video.

The Clocktower was even worse I agree, but the fact is (after watching your video) most people are not as good as jumping as you. I need to start immediately as 90% of the time I’m caught by the snowflakes beforehand and the two times ive made it to the presents the first row has fallen as I have jumped at it. For me the time limit is insanely tight I need to stop and plan jumps.

Adding the time limit and having us wait around for everyone else to win or fail was a stupid idea at the Helloween event and on a jumping puzzle like this (thats MUCH longer) it’s even more ridiculous. I can’t credit them for thinking any of the implementation of this puzzle was actually good. Because it isn’t.

I’m a good at jumping yes.

I’m how ever terrible at the bell choir mini game. I tried it and either I cannot get the timing right or lag is a factor. What do I do since I’m not good at some thing? I simply stop doing it and not wait until the next game starts. Didn’t get a reward. Won’t complain about it either since I haven’t earned it.

There’s plenty of events around. Pick one and stick to it. Mine is the jumping puzzle.

The only thing that’s puzzling me, at this point, is the challenge-seekers who are soundly against difficulty levels because they don’t want people lacking their particular skill being able to enjoy part of the event.

Not really. I’m not against it. Just don’t see the point of it.

If you create easy/hard modes for example. People will still complain that hard mode is too hard and it’s unfair they cannot get the better reward because they cannot do it.

It’s an event puzzle. Why should rewards be any better for the hard mode, which people that are good at jumping puzzles do because it satisfies their demand for a challenge. Have a title, like “Wonderous Jumper” for the winter winderland puzzle or “Clockwork Master” for the Mad Kings Clocktower if you complete it in hard mode. Considering that titles are actually one of the few visible means of showing you actually did something, it ought to beat any reward that can be gained elsewhere.

And I guarantee people will still complain they can’t get the title.

Rare mystery Wintersday boxes will have a chance to drop throughout the world. They will also be available in the consumable category of the Gem Store. They will contain gifts available in-game, plus a random item only available in the store.

Has anyone had one of these drop?

I’ll say it again: platform mechanics do not belong in an MMO unless they develop controls and cameras and geometry to accommodate it, and they have simply not.

The controls are fluid enough for me. Better than WOW and SWTOR I’d say. I was also brought up with platform games, so probably why the puzzle wasn’t really that hard for me.

If you’re having issues jumping to the next platform. Just face down and focus on the next platform, it makes it pretty easily to judge where to land.

I’ve been farming the puzzle all day. First 10 times I didn’t either let alone notice it. Then I randomly got caught by it twice before I realized what it was.

The benefit, as your post suggest, is one third of the cost of a weapon skin (at the risk of getting one you don’t want, of course). Seems pretty straightforward.

Thought it meant a chance to not drop at all.

It’s a random shot at any of the weapon skins that you can buy from that vendor.

So in other words a waste to spend on it seeing as it’s two thirds of what it costs of a weapon skin? Not sure what the benefit of getting it is.
