I know WvW is hard as hell to balance, I know that it probably won’t ever be balanced but to me this is a game defining and breaking issue:
Mesmer portals.
When a Mesmer teleports a entire zerg into a strategic location where they then build siege equipment and faceroll it’s a bit absurd, the 90 second cooldown wasn’t enough.
What I suggest to fix this is keep the 90 sec cooldown and make portals only usable by the Mesmer’s party (a maximum of 5 people including the Mesmer).
This will still allow ninja squads but will deter clear cut abuse of the Mesmer portals.
@ Raze, proof that Mesmer Portals need to be removed from the game. I was defending vs that crap and found it, I even called it in chat and no one came to help.
There’s 2 GoM guilds on the GoM server, any idea which one it was?
So a reactive profession who has high damage and great utility but isn’t based on mobility like the thief. Interesting concept.
Omg… PvP in WvW? I agree with you this is distasteful and should be punished, what would the overgrown grub think!!
I think you need to reread the OP because I clearly said the issue isn’t the PvP but the Trojan-kitten of using waves to allow others to pass and then gank them.
Maybe we should compile a list of the guilds who do this from each server (the ones who put siege weapons in there, the 30+ guildies who camp it and the ones who wave players through followed by ganking) so we are aware of who the baddies are and who to attack on sight no questions asked.
20+ people apparently were camping the puzzle from BP a hour or so ago, not all were from the same guild.
Thankfully this let me steamroll BP for a while, getting like 20 tokens from kills today+17 from the jp.
Kinda agree with the OP. The major issues with JP and PvP in there is certain classes and siege allow for advantage that cannot be beaten.
1200 range vs 900 range, if they’re above you and you have to do part of the jp in order to even fight them…you’re dead.
Same with siege equipment.
It was poorly thought through and now it’s a trolls playground.
I disagree. Its not hard to sweep a keep for mesmers, if your lazy you deserve a whole army being ported in.
Its not that easy, you can sweep for mesmers over and over and over but eventually they’ll succeed.
Imo portals are some of the biggest b.s. in WvW because they allow for portal bombing, the skill is largely an exploitation device and as such I think it needs to be nerfed massively.
a limit of 5 people per portal sounds reasonable and those people must be in the Mesmer’s party.
GOM just lost the keep in EB, BP Mesmer bombed with siege, no one came to help.
With S/P+SB I tend to find the best way to go is pepper the enemy with CB and once someone is out of position switch to S/P, shadow step in, Pistol Whip them down. When backup comes shadow return back and lol and there’s now more people out of position and your zerg kills them too to make this more effective I use Haste because its by far the best utility for a thief provided they can mitigate its drawback with SoA, Infiltrator’s Arrow, Shadow Return or any number of stealth skills.
I actually like WvW but I don’t spend massive amounts of time doing it, I’ll go in for the eb jp then stick around for a few zerg runs/a good defense or two to farm some badges and get out.
Heck today excluding the puzzle I got like 20 badges from around 40 kills, including the puzzle I got 37 badges today.
Recently I’ve seen thiefs with 1 minute worth of stealth on themselves. To me that’s overpowered.
While I agree that stealth should work in WvW as it does in sPvP with regard to point capture, you didn’t see a thief with 1 minute of stealth stored up. It caps at 10 seconds. Granted, you can constantly be filling it to that cap, but you can’t just fill ’er up and go.
No, it was actually 1 minute. He was on my GoM server so I looked at his stealth buff after the 10 seconds and the stealth buff said 1m.
Hack or glitch?
P.S. I play a thief, I know how stealth works. :p That’s why I mentioned it, because it wasn’t working how it’s supposed to and I found that very, very odd.
was that in EB jumping puzzle, by any chance?
Cuz there’s fountains down there granting 5 minutes of invis, ya know?
Ahhhhh that explains it. I was wondering…
Another BP guild to watch out who do this: even to naked players and they wait until the end of the maze ORL
I’ve been getting insane amounts of lag, to the point that my command won’t happen for 5-10 seconds after I’ve issued them including waypoint travel (it took over a minute of ignored commands before I gave up and logged off in the last bout).
Please look into this and fix it.
Recently someone posted a link to a very effective S/P build (can’t find the thread now… it’s been buried in hundreds of worthless threads) that relies on initiative regen from crits trait and trait that gives 2 initiative on signet usage. With reduced signet cooldown trait, healing from Signet of Malice and evasion from PW, the author was claiming that he was able to keep up PW spam for nearly a minute while putting out ridiculous damage and solo tanking most of the mobs in the dungeon runs.
I have tested this build in solo PVE (not dungeons yet) and can confirm that it does indeed work, though it’s a bit boring. Don’t judge people and jump to conclusions until you have all the facts.
Hahaha, that was me.
Signets are amazing if used properly but when you don’t trait for them they’re not very effective. But you can’t solo most dungeon mobs unless its a 1v1 fight or unless you group them together so PW hit multiples.
What about scythes? No love for scythes?
They have scythe skins for the staff.
Let’s just say the pay off the mystic recipe is kind of unbalanced.
Generally it’s 50 tier 5 mats, plus a philosopher’s stone and 2 different tier 6 mats.
From that you can get a random amount of the desired tier 6 mat from 5 to 12.
Yeah, that needs some refinement.
25 tier 5 mats+philosopher’s stone+1 tier 6 mat= 2-6 tier 6 mats seems more reasonable.
Hmmm so the idea is already implemented but it’s implemented poorly?
I’d be fine with the level cap raising by 5 like…once a year.
Make the mounts non-combat, faster then running and take up a 2×2 square in your inventory (4 slots). I mean it wouldn’t really change anything…the players wouldn’t have a real advantage over another thanks to the waypoint system.
Allow us to put 10 stacks of a mat into the mystic forge to transform it into 1 mat of the same type but 1 tier higher.
Example: 10 stacks of potent blood->insert them into the Mystic Forge->Create 1 powerful blood.
This would be a great way to address the issues Ascended gear has created in the TP’s supply and demand. I won’t get overly specific but this was caused by the new items being resource-heavy, bots becoming nearly extinct and the decimation of farmable meta events such as Plinx which destabilized the market.
S/P is one of the best weapon sets for a Thief for dungeons. If you can’t stun lock it with pistol whip+SoM for a face tank session you can blind powder it so it misses non-stop.
VS Bosses that cannot be mele’d you switch to the Short Bow, P/P or P/D and pew pew away. As it sits with my build I can out dps everything but a HB warrior and tank just as well as a Guardian.
0/30/0/20/20
berserker’s accessories/weapons+Power/Tough+Vit armor (or you can go Valk…I do a mix of both).
In Morgan’s Leap there’s a spot where you can farm infinitely spawning sparks as part of one of the temple quests. The average is 1-2 charged lodestones per hour so throw on your MF gear, get a friend or two, buy a MF potion and eat a omnom for MF.
Agreed, Anet really botched up the farming part. First they had a anti-grind manifesto then they included Ascended items…which are a total 100% WoWesque grind.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind having new stuff to work towards but realistically including them, getting rid of the bots and the sheer cost of the t6 mats needed=market chaos. I think they need to hire a economist to help them understand the changes they’re making and what this does to the TP.
To me that points more towards the RNG being silly.
RNG imo is one of the worst things to implement in a game if the variable range is too great because it nullifies hard work by sheer chance and god forbid if you use the Fisher-Yates code and don’t account for certain aspects which create discrepancies over large variable ranges via rounding (can’t remember what that bug is called anymore its been a while since I’ve talked about RNGs)
I wouldn’t mind a battle axe for the warrior and guardian classes. The main trick would be creating a skill set which doesn’t overlap with the greatsword.
The queue is the main reason why I think the puzzles should be instanced. If they must, keep the WvW aspect in there for ganking (I’d prefer them to be PvE on your respective server but that’s just my opinion) if you have to…just make the puzzle contenders not count towards the server cap.
Im an engi and its hilarious when ppl are on high places (like walls or bridges). One well placed mortar spray and it’s raining men lol. (also good for clearing choke points.)
The dmg + the fall usually kills some.
That would be epic to see xD
imo books should glow, quivers shouldn’t.
I hear yas, The jp is the only way to get quick badges. Even cannoning 20 ppl to death who were to stupid to look up only netted me like 3…
I usually have my alts (lvl 2 mind yas) go through the puzzle just to get average 25 per day, but its hard to kill gankers with only one skill and starting armor…(It’s hilarious tho when I win)
If you win they are bad and should feel bad :p
Yeah I’ve been doing the JP pretty much exclusively. As a S/P thief I’m best as a front line vanguard type of player which gets mitigated by the zerg mechanic so often times I’m reduced to roaming with 1-2 other players and ganking the living crap out of reinforcements heading back to the zerg.
It works pretty well with shadow step’s immobilize, pistol whip’s stun and haste doing some insane dps (if I do the combo right I’ll end up doing 12-20k dmg in 2 seconds to lvl 80s with full exotics).
Link is bad.
I think you’re misunderstanding how a condition thief works.
With your stat placement it would make a lot more sense to go P/D with apothecary or carrion gear.
As a D/D build and considering valk/berserker gear you’d be better off with deadly arts, critical damage and shadow arts.
Last thing: thieves don’t do well in zergs your best bet would be to pick off stragglers in the back of the zerg or cut off reinforcements.
+1000000 the TP needs a reset and this is a good way to do it.
I just want my Invader’s vest but the drop rate of badges is so low that even with MF I barely get any.
Eventually I’ll need another 500 for bolt but that’s a long ways off.
Protip: if you see a thief, keep moving (so they can’t back stab you), make them waste their initiative and if it’s a P/D build either make sure you have your condition removal ready or run because they are kings at long fights that drain you of everything.
They aren’t really OP but it does require understanding how the thief works in order to beat them.
I don’t think I need to do a write up. The screenshot pretty much sums up the thief class and how OP they are:
Your armor was a bit on the low side which probably had a lot to do with that. As a Thief my armor in 1500 and I’m not built as a bunker.
1. Steal has to interrupt any skill that is in use when it is activated and it needs at least a 1/2 second aftercast. This will give people who are attacked about 1 second to register that they’re in danger and do something about it before CnD -> backstab ruins their day.
This could be the worst thing to do to the thief. Think about other specs and not only backstab. I’m a S/D user and Anet nerfed the build I used to use into the ground. At this time, my only reliable burst is CnD/Mug and its far from OS anyone. S/D is already pretty hard to play since the daze nerf and will be destroyed by a change like this.
Agreed, this would hurt S/P as well, we can use steal to relocate in mid pistol whip.
I get why you’re mad. I really do. But in the end, all you’re doing is complaining about PvP on a PvP map. There are no “rules” or “manners.” No one has to be nice to you just because you used an emote. Go into the jumping puzzle assuming that every red name you see is going to try and kill you, because most likely, they are.
That’s the things though, when I see AR they stop a ways back, wave at me and then respond accordingly. I guess I should do the puzzles when BP are asleep and continue to have a good GW2 experience rather then subject myself to BP’s BM.
Sorry you had such a bad experience. That isn’t from a bp player, it’s just another player that knows how frustrating it can be. I hope you finally got through the puzzle. If I could help you I would, just because I’ve been there. I’ve done it a few times, and I’ve seen it camped by the enemy. It’s never fun, and it ruins what would have been an awesome puzzle if not for that.
Gave up to be honest, Anet had some bugs in there today.
At one point I had made it ontop of a platform (I was in the middle of it and the platform was huge), I randomly received 10k dmg and it teleported me off of the platform, then another time I got stuck in a area where my character couldn’t fit and another time I randomly received 1800 dmg every 5 seconds.
So I’ll do it in a few hours when BP will mostly be sleeping and when the bugs hopefully clear up.
@ Uncon, that’s lame. As part of the GoM alliance I haven’t seen any of us doing that stuff and as far as I can tell it’s not a legit tactic that we’ve ever discussed.

I would think you guys have more to worry about than a j/p.
Also try to remember that not everyone from a server is the same. It’s cool if you dislike certain guilds etc, but you keep referring to servers like they are all one guild. That’s not true, each server has a variety of people on it. Each of those people has their own personality, and ideas.
I remember just 2 weeks ago Ar was camping the j/p. I helped some gom get through it. I never attacked anyone. Wish they would just remove the darn jumping puzzles, make it so PvE achievements don’t require WvW. I think everyone would be happier.
To be honest I don’t think of all BP as what I’ve described. A few nights ago BP, AR and GoM were all in the puzzle waving each other through, showing each other the way through. Heck, at one point I saw a BP jumping a AR and I helped kill the BP while leaving the AR alone.
I know not all BP are “dishonorable” much like how not all GoM are hackers but I’ve noticed a reoccurring trend of BP doing this kind of stuff (the groups Ive seen aren’t even doing the puzzles, they’re just camping and ganking mid way through the puzzle) I’d wish they could be more like the good examples from BP and less like the stereotype so when I saw a BP on the battlefield I didn’t feel animosity and resentment towards them.
And ultimately I agree, the puzzles should be PvE, not WvW but we all know this isn’t going to happen.
I’m at the point where I want to see BP in tier 6 just so I don’t have to deal with the bm anymore.
By waving them through and ganking them as they pass?
Also, most people don’t do puzzles for blueprints so I call B.S. on this.
This is blatantly bad manner and as such I suggest GoM and Anvil team up, BP in general needs to get put in their place for a while.I can tell you right now we’re not ‘waving’ anyone through. If we’re there, there’s a good chance we’re more than willing to fight. And as for bad manners? This is WvW. I’m not sure why people need reminding of this, but it’s war.
Are you saying its okay to wave a sign of truce and then shoot whoever comes? You know who else did this? King Edward the 3rd and that earned him enemies everywhere he went.
I don’t know how many times I’ve been ganked by GoM and Anvil while trying to collect Ori or simply trying to finish the puzzle. Not to mention camping spawn with arrow carts or the traps. I don’t get any leeway from you guys why should I give any?
You don’t get leeway because your server keeps pulling this crap. Now it’s a freight train of malcontent and genuine dislike.
When I see a BP name I think “dirty, underhanded, bad manner”.
When I see a AR name I think “honorable, knows etiquette”.
And I’m not the only person who thinks this given my conversations.
Are you comfortable with having a bad reputation?
Much like how GoM had a bad rep a while back because our server had a plethora of hackers stealing orbs?
This is what I’m working towards.
I feel its a nice mix between practical and sexy.
Form fitting, check
Bit of skin showing, check
Clearly armored, check
karma gloves, boots, shoulders
invader’s chest
starter hood
duelist pants

..I don’t think we want peace. XD
We don’t want our enemies getting siege weapons through the JP, so we have a team that takes care of people there.

I stopped reading here. If you’ve ever had any customer service experience you realise that the customer is always wrong and is often a jerk about it (not saying you are of course).
As someone who was only out ranked in customer service by regional distributors and corporate office employees I can safely say that this is totally false.
As a company you’re trying to please the customer because all those fancy ads don’t do half as good as simple word of mouth, regardless if the customer is right or wrong (in most cases the customer is right, it’s just the ones that are wrong that stick in our heads due to human nature) you need to empathize and assist them in order to maintain your companies reputation and thus further your product through word of mouth.

Cool story I’d like to share.
So GoM and Anvil Rock are doing the EB JP, we’re waving each other through, showing each other how to do the JP if we need help and some BP players are doing this too. All is good and we’re respecting each other when we’re waved through.
Enter BP 5 man gank teams, they wave people through and then GANK them as they pass. Personally I find this distasteful, not because they’re attacking but because they’re being deceptive about it, using a “white flag” as a rouse in order to get the drop.
To this end I suggest a alliance between Anvil Rock and GoM in the jumping puzzles: lets not attack each other, instead lets lets gank BP mercilessly, set up arrow carts at the entrance and use their bad manner tactics against them until BP start showing they have manners a whole when it comes to showing signs of peace.

The bow, staff and pistol definitely need alternatives. They’re either too rainbow-orientated or in the case of the pistol, a great way to troll your allies with its annoying sound effects.
Then move to a different server where people are generally more respectful or do the puzzles at a ungodly hour.
Bots can also be “sweat shop” players and, as it was pointed out, players can appear to do bottish things. I’ve been killed while AFK and was asked if I was a bot. Any typewritten response is fine as long is it makes some kind of sense.
Regarding the type of bots, the most common one I see is a player controlling multiple characters (ostensibly running on separate machines) with one set of control system; i.e., one mouse and one keyboard running half a dozen characters. In that sense, it might be wierd getting identical “I’m not a bot” responses from six rangers while their pets just stare. Then, again, I have never seen one of those types of botters respond to questions but I do have screen cap’s.
It’s against the ToS to control several characters with 1 mouse+keyboard as you’re using 3rd party software to gain advantage over other players (in this case players who are using several mouse+keyboards to manage those several players). So if you ever run into that situation report them anyhow, they’re cheating.
