I’ve tested out my full set, with 3313 attack I’m averaging around 6k total damage from the ravens, if they crit I’ll reach 10k.

I’d have to fraps that, the birds have like 3 different chains of damage they deal.

On chain 1 I see anywhere from 2-4k of damage
On chain 2 I see anywhere from 2-4k of damage and on the swooping attack I see 1-2k of damage.

I’ve tested out my full set, with 3313 attack I’m averaging around 6k total damage from the ravens, if they crit I’ll reach 10k.

Can you tell me how much critical and condition damage you have? I have +- same damage but cannot reach so high numbers.

I have 200 condition damage traited (I’m not a cond thief, I’m a PW thief and I only went that deep to get trickster)

My crit damage % is 154.

Also, on a side note: the ravens activate Signet Of Malice, I went through Arah today on SM and multiple times I had them birdies heal me fully while dishing out respectable damage.

I have 3253 damage, 387 condition damage, 51% critical change and 150% basic + 30% traited + 19% from items of critical damage (total 199%) + all traits for higher damage like executioner etc and still cannot reach your 6k-10k total damage by ravens. I dont know how is it possible that you reach 4x higher damage. Very strange.

I screwed up my crit dmg it’s actually 190% and I use executioner too. On average I see it deal 5-6k of dmg on a Orr mob. Next time it crits I’ll screen shot the combat log.

So….. lets just say thieves don’t have stealth any more. How do you plan on living? You have a thief. I challenge you to go into wvw when its busy and never use stealth once.

I do it every day bro It’s called S/P+SB and I live most of the time.

And lets just say you’re saying that chaining stealth is the OP part of being a thief…. OK now lets run another test. You can only use your heal “hide in shadows” as your stealth. Now go kill them tiger. And do me a favor fraps it and post it so we can see how well you do.

The OP part is bypassing the revealed debuff. I don’t know why you’re rambling on about things that haven’t been mentioned and I’m not sure why you’re so defensive, heaven forbid a thief player brings some objectivity into the sub forum.

New Weapon: The Katara

I’d like to see a new weapon implemented: the Katara.

A katara is a 1-3 foot dagger that has a horizontal grip, it’s a thrusting weapon, not a slashing weapon and is used primarily as a boxer uses their fists. For this incarnation I modeled the skills after the British version which has a clover blade (3 blades folded into 1 which spring open into 3 blades from the hilt, meant to eviscerate).

Skill 1: Thrust

Thrust your blade into your foe

Medium attack speed
High single target damage

Skill 1.a: Clove Blade

Open your blade inside the enemy, inflicting vulnerability

Medium attack speed
High single target damage
3 stacks of vulnerability for 5 seconds

Skill 1.b: Eviscerate

Twist you blade and pull it out of your foe, inflicting bleed

Medium attack speed
High single target damage
3 stacks of bleed for 5 seconds

Skill 2: Charge

Charge your foe, stabbing them with all your might

Charge distance: 900
Damage: high

To be honest I haven’t though of dual wield skills for the Katara, was hoping you guys could help me fill in the blanks.

Wait, by “perma-stealth”, are you talking about the person just… using CnD, waiting it out, then using CnD again immediately after? Just that, and not much else?
I can see how that might be annoying, but… it’s not like they’re winning any fights.
And where does Backstab fit into that, since using it gives you Revealed.

You think CnD is the only form of stealth to be used in combat? do you even play this class?

I have 5 forms of stealth that can be used during any combat… backstab chain, to heart seeker, to CnD and repeat.. is very easy, and if your CnD cost is not up yet, just popping into stealth with any of the other 4 forms of stealth can generate enough int to backstab and CnD yet again.

Unless you trait for it, you’re only going to be gaining 2 initiative for non-shadow refuge stealths, and shadow refuge is an invitation for the opponent to AoE half your health away.

This proves you have no clue on this subject. If you stand in the middle of your shadow refuge for the duration you’re a bad thief and should feel bad.

You’re not even taking into context that initiative has a innate regeneration or the passive signet ability/traits which regen it while spec’d differently.

I am not trying to troll, but you cannot have a serious conversation with thieves on this forum.

As far as the posters here are concerned they are all good players and everyone else is bad. Its just a coincidence that all the good players chose to play thieves and has absolutely no indication on the classes strength whatsoever.

I think that’s a little harsh. Posts like the mentioned are more or less proof that theory crafting is a waste of time because anyone with real experience knows better.

Looking for an "easiest-to-use" Thief PvE build

S/P. when built properly its viable in Dungeons and in normal PvE, just don’t be a hero and try to make a glass cannon, trait for power/tough/vit and you should do 5-11k (11k is my record) damage from pistol whip which you should use as much as possible because of the AoE, the evasion and the respectable damage.

I’ve been lucky in that the last month I have spent 5/7 days each week working away from internet capability. Every time I get back I’m fresh and ready to jump back into WvW. Maybe the answer is just taking a few days off or even a week. Jump back into it after a break and you might renew your initial enjoyment.

This is what I’m finding as well. Too much WvW makes me not appreciate GW2…makes me jaded and cynical and wishing WvW was better rather then appreciating what it is.

So are you suggesting that a system is faulty if you cannot beat it solo? I cannot take the Stonemist Castle alone. I can kill 1-3 NPC’s bu I can’t take 4, even when no PC’s around, I cannot take it. So the system should be faulty, broken. I should take a castle, a castle in a PvP content map, solo. Those ANET developers, what were they thinking?

For DE its not a issue, look at Plinx, you do 5 events before you reach the 6th meaning you never see those diminishing returns. This only effects people who sit around and wait for 1 single event.

This is more of a dungeon issue.

This is why you should carry a ranged weapon if you don’t have AoE. As a Thief I use a SB for my AoE/Tagging, I pay attention to where enemies spawn and I hover there and insta-explode my cluster bomb to tag everything.

If you refuse to use weapons and/or skills that have AoE that’s a personal problem.

The Thief’s SB is not only ranged, it’s also some great AoE, and not every class has access to that. Mesmer AoE, for instance, takes a second to set-up (spawning clones for shatter, etc). The problem is that most mobs are dead before the shatter even reaches the mobs. That’s not a personal problem, it’s a problem with DE mechanics, which are putting some classes at an innate disadvantage.

Do mesmers have access to the sword? If so the auto attack has AoE, do runby attacks, hit mobs 1-2 times and move on to the next one(s). This is another thing I do to tag mobs when I can’t swap weapons (cooldown).

Unless a class has no reliable source of AoE then they can tag, if they know where mobs spawn and use their brain. If a class has no viable AoE that’s a design flaw as Anet disowned the holy trinity of MMORPG roles.

So If I gather enough people in any castle in any W3 map and defend it like it was the end of the world and you couldn’t siege it, will you still be writing/posting about it?

I’d take screen shots and document it as proof that the system is inevitably fallible and needs a rework.

the jumping puzzle inside eternal battlegrounds and each of the 3 borderlands are fine, working as intended.

there is no need to fix what is not broken.

please do not blame the game if you are unable to beat your enemies?

I blame a faulty system for forcing my class, which has very little AoE to use jumping puzzles in order to make a fraction of what a elemental, warrior, etc can make and then having players camp that source of income.

Its a design flaw that I do not appreciate that has multiple fixes.

In my view, legendaries arent worth it.

Imo legendries should come with a unique sigil, nothing crazy just something that cannot be obtained elsewhere that offers a different bonus. This would satisfy both camps and is reasonable.

I agree, WvW needs to be addressed relatively quickly, there’s some design flaws in the reward system there as well as the balancing of being outnumbered.

The badge drop rate is obscenely low which in turn promotes AoE classes and punishes other classes and support builds.

This creates a “gear grind” that Anet said they were avoiding.

Next the addition of puzzles to WvW isn’t healthy. This is largely because they detract from the combatants on the map.

Then you have the outmanned buff. How is additional exp, karma and gold going to even the teams? It doesn’t. Those bonuses should be for orbs and the stat bonuses should be for the outmanned buff. This would also help even out the night capping situation (which isn’t bad but it basically makes it impossible for people to play on non-peak hours for their server).

With these addressed simply fix the rendering bug and you have a generally good PvP mode that only suffers from 1 last fatal flaw: class viability, melee gets screwed in most scenarios which means 1200 range weapons vs 900 range weapons create imbalances if the said class doesn’t have access to longer range weapons.

I don’t knowif it’s a glitch of something but I’ve never actually seen the ravens when I use DS before, during or after the ability channels. Maybe they’re all just dying too fast…

They don’t die; they’re exactly like the hawks called by Rangers when they use that horn skill, but tweaked to look like ravens instead.

Dungeons and PvE are doable and even easy for a thief that’s properly built.
I use a S/P+SB thief with power/tough/vit as my stat focus. I out dps most people (my attack is over 3200, when I complete my gear it’ll be over 3400). the problem is most thieves try to go the stealth/glass cannon route which isn’t how you play PvE, that will get you killed in the later level areas such as Orr and dungeons.

What traits do you run and what jewelry? Please state which ones you take in your trait tree btw

It is a lot of badges. I’m on the fence about the drop rates. Agreed they can be hard to get in all aspects of the game other tahn direct player killing.

Just not sure if I want to see everyone running around in max gear so soon after the games release.

As is it is just aggravating the situation. Thieves and mesmers raking badges thus making them EVEN MORE over powered is not helping the game. PvP’ers by nature are competitive. They will roll whatever class gives them the edge. i.e. thieves and mesmers. Heck-I shelved a 74 engineer and rerolled an ele (cant bring my self to play faceroll classes). The think is, my engineer is way more valuable in a group with his support than my ele is with his dps but my engineer hardly ever gets badges while my ele rakes. I want to be competitive and getting badges is not optional. You HAVE to get badges to get the gear (all about skill my kitten . So what are you gonna do?

thieves and mesmers dont go for wvw gear. atleast not the good ones. infact only very specific builds for certain classes will find wvw gear useful.

saying you have to get wvw gear to be competitive is ridiculous.

Dungeon thieves need the power/prec/vit set otherwise they melt and are a general hindrance. Thing is you have to build specifically to use that survivability, S/P does that fairly well.

perma invis meaning bypassing the debuff by not attacking, using shadow refuge to stack stealth and casting things like thieves guild while remaining invis followed by the BS combo.

I don’t think bs itself is broken. Its the combination of casting while invis and shadow refuge creating a insanely long stealth period.

Both mitigate the drawbacks for going full glass cannon which quite frankly is broken.

If you go full glass you should you shouldn’t be a survivability machine.

The current glass BS build is kinda op. As a non-glass thief (1600 hp, 2300 armor, full exotics, blah blah) I still melt to the build. It’s not that it does too much damage its that the stealth mitigates any risk of the build.

Sure I can AoE the kitten outta them with sword spams and I can survive copious amounts of damage but when you can’t see them you can’t target them.

I realize that the BS thief does need a nerf now, perma stealth just isn’t healthy for the game.

I’ve actually let other server players pass before. I won’t attack them out of respect while we’re in the puzzle. But if I see someone from my server getting ganked I’ll jump in and thrash em.

I should use the /wave command to let my enemy know I won’t attack them. Thanks for the idea.

I believe it’s part of the difficulty of the puzzle, besides as you find campers you’ll probably find someone to help you, maybe even some good guy mesmer with a portal…

Often cases you can’t get enough people to help. Should a puzzle be ruined because 3 people decide to camp deep in the puzzle? I don’t think so…

there have also been times where a entire guild will camp the entrance, hence the arrow carts.

Signet of Agility is also handy to refill your endurance bar after using Haste.

Oh man, I’ve had that save my life in WvW before xD it also overrides the no endurance regeneration.

There have been points in the game where someone will attack a mob and the mob will attack me, who hasn’t even looked at the mob in a threatening way.

I do agree that the aggro in GW2 is a little absurd, not only is it random but it applies to everyone in its AoE, not just players attacking said mob.

It’s funny you should say that because I was wondering the exact same thing. Everybody talks about Plinx farming yet the official GW2 wiki has no information on it. As I mentioned there, I would update it myself, but the event is always so overpopulated that I don’t have a clue what’s going on!

Plinx is a NPC who starts a chain of events in cursed shore (3 events) which are nearby 3 other events. When people talk about doing Plinx they’re talking about doing a specific 6 events in rapid sucession with little downtime. This allows players who have AoE to farm lots of gold and players who can obtain gold in the events lots of karma in a highly condensed space of time.

How Do I Grind Karma?

Is 378 the max amount of karma you can get form an event? I’ve had karma buffs on and haven’t seen it go higher then 378 in the event reward pop up. Can you get more then that and the event reward just doesn’t tell you?

I’ve had over 600, as others have stated it won’t show on the text…only on your screen and in your karma bank.

To the OP: farm Plinx for karma, do dungeons and WvW.
Plinx is by far the most reliable way to farm mass karma though.

S/P is amazing when properly built.

For gear you’ll have 2 options.
1st you can go glass cannon focusing on power, precision, crit damage but this will leave you super, super vulnerable and is generally not the greatest idea for the thief’s tank weapon set ever since the PW nerf.

2nd you can go for a Power/Tough/Vit set which will make you beefy and you’ll have amazing dps.

Next your heal should be Signet Of Malice, it helps per hit which makes it synergize well with PW (because PW hits lots and evades any source of damage including DoT).

Finally you’ll have some options for your utility and elite skills and these will be highly reliant on what stats you decide to trait.

Haste is a MUST, it makes PW devastating and allows SoM to heal you a ton and as such I’d suggest going 20 points deep into trickery to get 4 bonuses.

1) Thrill of the Crime, so you gain fury and might when stealing which can be done while rooted from PW (also makes PW crit more)

2) Trickster to give Haste a 48 second cooldown (its normally 60 seconds).

3) More initiative

4) stealing will replenish initiative

Next I’d suggest going for signets. This requires you to go into the critical strikes tree (20 deep) which again syngerizes with PW allowing it to crit more often.

Signets of Power and Signet Use are needed because they allow you to give yourself 5 stacks of might upon activating a signet which in turn gives you 2 initiative.

The signets which are best to use are Assassin’s Signet, Signet of Shadows and Infiltrator’s Signet.

For your elite the best choices are Dagger Storm (works with Signet of Malice) or Thieves Guild. If you’re a Sylvari Take Root is also viable.

With my current build which has full exotics (not the exact stat placement I’d like but it’s kitten close) I have 3300 attack, 16000 health and 2300 armor. My auto atatcks will deal anywhere from 1000-2000 damage on a non-crit and on a crit I’ve seen as high as 6k.

PW on average does 4-5k but I’ve seen a 10k on a crit before.

Completely agree, badges of honor are probably one of the worst parts of GW2, which otherwise is a phenomenal game.

Please Anet, put some TLC into the WvW mechanics, they need it.

What strikes me as odd is that ANet opted to have some player drop 2 Badges, thus increasing the RNG factor even more.

I’d rather have every 2nd or 3rd player drop one Badge than have every 6th drop two.

But in general, 1 Badge per kill would be perfect.

Boom. Nailed it. Add something for the support players and you have a winner.

You mean badges for all who participate in downing said player? A support character should be able to tag players before the down status.

WvW: Jumping Puzzles

I suggest moving these puzzles to PvE via mystic portal.
As it sits these puzzles do 2 things in WvW: They detract from the people actually playing WvW and secondly they promote small teams of players camping the puzzles, which leads to advantage over players trying to do a jumping puzzle.

It’s gotten so bad that I often see arrow karts built inside of the eternal battlegrounds puzzle.

To me there’s nothing wrong with said puzzle existing and even providing badges, the problem is they are located in a PvP area.

In WvW the major issue as well is people camping the puzzles in teams of 2-3 and picking off anyone who wanders in.

WvW is a total joke atm, have to do puzzles for badges but can’t do puzzles because people camp them.

Remove the puzzles, give us a high badge ratio drop. It should be a bare minimum of 50% for player kills and we should get the possibility for badges on down, not just death.

It is a lot of badges. I’m on the fence about the drop rates. Agreed they can be hard to get in all aspects of the game other tahn direct player killing.

Just not sure if I want to see everyone running around in max gear so soon after the games release.

Another one of my concerns are the “double kill” scenarios. You don’t get anything if you can’t finish the other player off even though you took them to zero health. That needs to change as well. You have to kill the player twice essentially.

Exactly, I’m tired of this badge B.S. Anet really dropped the ball on it.

I’ve tested out my full set, with 3313 attack I’m averaging around 6k total damage from the ravens, if they crit I’ll reach 10k.

Dungeons and PvE are doable and even easy for a thief that’s properly built.
I use a S/P+SB thief with power/tough/vit as my stat focus. I out dps most people (my attack is over 3200, when I complete my gear it’ll be over 3400). the problem is most thieves try to go the stealth/glass cannon route which isn’t how you play PvE, that will get you killed in the later level areas such as Orr and dungeons.

That’s pretty much the only reliable way to get badges, jumping puzzles and alts.
So I guess I’ll be making another 3 characters and using them to mule out the jumping puzzles…sigh.

Taken directly from the wiki, so it is considered Lore. Also, be sure you are not confused in the difference between the meanings of both words ‘Theory’ and ‘Hypothesis’.

I can edit the wiki to say that the norn all have a vestigial organ located between the liver and stomach called the squippo that, at one point in time, allowed them to get drunk off of water at will. I could also write up about how this no longer functions to explain why norn drink so much brew now.

Since it’d be on the wiki, would it then be considered canonical and a part of the lore, at least until it’s removed by the wiki team?

No, because wikis aren’t reliable sources of lore regardless of how well-maintained they are. The fact that it’s on the wiki just means that the majority of the wiki’s editors believe it to be relevant and factual enough to present.

Additionally, that line is not on the wiki.

If you edited the wiki in a matter of hours they’d send you a email telling you that your information wasn’t contributing, wasn’t cited and was wrong followed by a warning that if you do it again they’ll IP ban you.

Point being, yes you can screw with wiki but wiki can also screw with you.

your trying to justify everything the thief can do, simply because it’s WvW?

WvW has your PvE equipment. Often times you can attack someone wearing lvl 20-50 armor and you’ll have full exotics, lending to insane damage.

Heck, kitten P I’ve leveled players by shadow stepping, pistol whil and pop haste. In less then a second they’re dead because I did over 20k worth of damage. Does this make Pistol Whip broken? no. It means they were under geared and melted before the awesomeness of a full exotic equip.

Another example is I’ve had cluster Bomb do 6k damage…vs a properly geared player it’ll do 1-2k damage.

Are u happy with zerg dynamic in wvw?

To be honest outmanned should mean stat buffs, gold/karma/exp doesn’t matter if you’re out numbered. What matters is making up the number difference utilizing a smaller player pool.

I’d like to see the buff be variable as well, scaling based on how out numbered you are.
