Thief S/P is boring in PvE too, hit 2 then hit 3…over and over and over yet the bursts from that aren’t anywhere near Hb damage and Thieves are a high damage class…
The rewards for Hb in PvE are just silly strong.
(edited by BabelFish.7234)
drools I’m so doing that dungeon and abusing subversion rifle+theft now…
So in reality you’re looking at Hb doing between 15-40k dmg
No, you’re looking at consistent ~21k damage every 6.5 seconds, assuming uniform distribution of damage range and crits.
Assuming you hit, okay.
And for the record Hb glass cannon is the worst build ever
No, it’s the most damaging build in-game.
And its squishy as hell. Damage doesn’t mean I R IS BESTEST otherwise BS thieves would rock dungeons. Don’t get defensive.
if you miss that charge you die
Absolutely not. Where did you come up with that? Missing Rush does NOT result in death.
Let me clarify, in PvP and Wv3 missing your rush with a Hb glass spec is death.
so full zerker armor on a warrior for a Hb build is just bad, especially for dungeons.
This conclusion isn’t inferred from your previous (and already wrong) statements.
[/quote]
I think you’re overly defensive, a Hb glass spec has low survivability which in turn means you die more in dungeons where dmg isn’t everything.
High damage is good but its no good if your party is carrying you through because you die non-stop.
There was one guy with a broken mouse that unintentionally did several clicks at once, a problem that may, like lag hat makes you click again after a while, happen to anyone sooner or later. So, for pricy transactions like these, I’d vote for a system that prompts you again. An option to resell items for some time would be a) be problematic in cases where you lose connection to the server and b) you’d have to make sure people don’t buy armor, transmutate it and resell it.
I like this as well, a option to resell item(s) you just bought to the vendor for 100% of its cost for X period of time after purchasing. Updating the OP with this.
When you have someone blabbing in your ear constantly and won’t shut up stuff happens. We’re all human and sometimes mistakes are made.
What happened to understanding that fundamental concept?
Fundamental concept is quite a harsh way to put it. And I prefer fluid transactions over “Are you sure you want to do this?” dialog boxes any time. But that’s just me.
Or we could go to the original concept of showing all usable items for your profession on the 1st tab and all items you’re unable to use on the 2nd tab. Why on earth would we need “Are you sure you want to do this?” dialog boxes?
Mistakes are part of the fundamental human experience. It’s not harsh, it’s realistic.
Besides, they can’t spoon-feed us with everything. And making a major transaction (such as karma gear, getting a dungeon armor/weapon) always means that you should pay attention. Or at least this is how I roll.
And same, I’ve made 2 mistakes purchasing. The 1st time a retraited I bought a manual, didn’t ask for a refund.
Next time I was looking through stats with someone talking at me, bought the heavy armor instead of the medium armor.
You’re arguing against this without any real reason not to other then “Besides, they can’t spoon-feed us with everything.” ergo you don’t have a counter argument. There is nothing lost to your gameplay experience by implementing this suggestion while the chance of extremely costly mistakes are reduced significantly.
They’d probably just refund the karma cost directly since giving you the jugs would allow you to use a booster for some free karma.
Kamra boosters don’t effect jugs but even if they did 9 karma jugs doesn’t give me back my full amount (it would take 9.3 repeating jugs to refund me).
Are you sure about this? Boosters don’t work on jugs? I haven’t tried this myself as I’ve been saving my jugs in order to try and maximise the benefit as per this thread on guildwars2guru:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74178-how-do-i-get-most-out-of-my-karma-jugs/If you are correct then I’m going to be gutted!
I read elsewhere that this wasn’t how it worked. I’d suggest using google to confirm, I could be wrong.
I’ve been seeing stuff like 40k Hb hits in PvE…to me this just seems wrong…keep in mind this is only in PvE, I don’t think Hb is op in Wv3 or PvP.
So in reality you’re looking at Hb doing between 15-40k dmg.
And for the record Hb glass cannon is the worst build ever, if you miss that charge you die so full zerker armor on a warrior for a Hb build is just bad, especially for dungeons.
Whatever happened to being careful when you’re about to do a larger scale transaction?
When you have someone blabbing in your ear constantly and won’t shut up stuff happens. We’re all human and sometimes mistakes are made.

Kamra boosters don’t effect jugs but even if they did 9 karma jugs doesn’t give me back my full amount (it would take 9.3 repeating jugs to refund me).
Its not even that the cure is hard. I mean is it really that hard for them to take X item away from my inventory and give me 9 karma jugs as compensation?
I know this is within their power.
But yes, the prevention would be much easier and doable…very, very doable.
Ugh that means I have to farm another 250000 karma to get the equipment and looks I desire. Guess I’ll be doing plinx runs and daily crap for a while.
man, I was actually farming the dye too I stopped using them because I kept getting dye that I already had…
actually it is consistent, i dont rely on anything like cooldowns or special combo fields it’s just the damage output from One Hundred Blades that has a 6 1/2s cooldown.
could probably go even higher if i used Ruby Orbs over Runes of Strength, im just providing proof as to why warriors are wanted over other proffesions, but feel free to share screenshots of consistent damage from other proffesions.
Was that a crit or a normal hit?
and it doesn’t matter cause on path 2 he doesn’t have line spikes. GJ Alpha on 25 stacks, now try to hit someone :P
Oh he one shotted our ranger, he hits really hard if you give him 25 stacks of might with the subversion rifle.
Give him 25 stacks and have a thief using bountiful theft steal from him. Now all your allies have 25 stacks of might and Alpha doesn’t. It’s pretty funny.
I find thieves are highly underrated for dungeons. Yes, if they’re bad and build for a BS build they’re not good but a tank-y SP thief survives just as long as a guardian and deals out insane amounts of damage consistently. That 26k isn’t consistent. 10k from a S/P thief is (20k if they pop haste).
I don’t think you could ever balance WvW, too many factors. PvE/WvW should be grouped together as they’re closely intertwined. PvP should definitely have its own balancing though.
Thief is easily the best PvE class aside from perhaps Warrior or Mesmer. Using S/P or S/D with SB and Shadow Arts/Acrobatics trees properly invested, I can steamroll from one side of Orr to the other and any dungeon with relative ease. We have an INSANE amount of blinds, evades, stuns, stunbreaks, escapes and condition removals at our disposal, and we can choose any and every battle with mobs via stealth.
Of course, this only applies if you do what I said (invest in survivability trees). If you roll pure DPS, you’ll get ruined in PvE. I mean COMPLETELY ruined.
There’s nothing better than running a sword support build in a dungeon. You can manage enemy aggro all by yourself, revive any teammates without issues, kite/pseudo-tank efficiently and deal formidable damage while you’re at it. Thieves are SEVERELY underrated in group play because of the many bad apples that think backstab builds are still viable in large-scale PvE.
QFT. Was doing a CM run Asura path yesterday. In situations where the guardian was dying I wasn’t, I was even at full health while collecting equal agro.
After a while the party leader mentioned “someone was doing a lot of damage in the party” so I went back to repair, came back, started attacking and was doing as much damage as the rest of the party combined (ranger+warrior+guardian, we had another thief but he was horrible and ended up rage quitting after agroing 15 mobs with a stray DD).
If built properly I’d argue thieves are one of the best PvE professions but if you’re going glass cannon BS build naturally you’re going to fail at dungeons and any high-level areas like Orr.
I don’t agree with the OP at all, any decent developer balances the game according to stats-usually at the professional level.
What I think the current issue boils down to is Anet is looking at overall stats.
While good in theory this approach doesn’t work because most players aren’t anywhere near good and therefore you can’t balance based on their imperfections.
Thieves skill cap is relatively high, we have to out play our opponents to get kills and not by any small margin. Because of the natural variance in a high skill cap profession vsing lower skill cap professions we end up with things that may seem overpowered at first glance because of the disparity between the skills of the players but when we look at the “professional” level of play everyone is bringing their “A game”, the skill cap has been reached for the current meta and proper balancing can happen from that angle.
So if BS thieves are owning all the pro tourneys then I agree, it evidently needs to be addressed. If thieves are dominating all the low rent tourneys then it’s simply a l2p issue.
Pistol Whip dual ability with offhand pistol. Remove the self root from pistol whip. Change the stun to a 1/2s Daze and have it grant 3s of aegis on the first sword hit (to symbolize a reposite) . Reduce the attacks to 2 after the initial daze hit, @50% of the total damage of the current 5 attack version, remove the evade frames and keep the same initiative cost. This now changes S/P To the “Control Tank” synergizing weapon set
Wait, cut the damage of the already-nerfed pistol whip by 50%? This would completely solidify autoattack as the set’s only viable damage skill… Pistol Whip already does less than it. Can’t say I’m behind that one.
Which processes in less then half the time. It’s viable but not for a major initiative cost.
As is S/P is already the undisputed tanking weapon set for thieves, making this skill change uneeded. Just revert the damage nerf (or remove the root) to PW and maybe buff #5 by granting 2-3 seconds of stealth.
From what I’ve read the t1 cultural weapons look the same as the t3 cultural weapons.
I have a rune of force and a rune of air, I see air proc all the time. From what I hear rune of force can’t be stacked.
I’ll try to do this often, I need that temple open for some of my armor.
…so I can’t take the t1 cultural sylvari sword (which looks the same as the t3 cultural sword) and transmute its appearance on my exotic sword?
So I grind of hours, getting loads of karma, I’m buying my karma gear and MISCLICK I buy heavy karma armor which I can’t use. I message support immediately and they can’t help me.
I’m not impressed, karma takes a massive amount of time to farm and I’m fairly certain people HAVE been helped with refunds on purchased goods.
So instead of leaving thing to chance here why even show the heavy armors and other items from vendors that you cannot use?
I suggest putting them on a different tab under the vendor.
For the record I’m not impressed that anet can’t help me.
I know people who have had issues with gold items who have been helped and yet I somehow can’t be helped…
TL;DR
Make vendors have one of the following features
All items usable by your class are on the 1st tab
All items unusable by your class on the 2nd tab
OR
Option to resell items bought from a vendor for 100% of the karma, tokens or gold (cannot be boosted through things like karma booster potions) for X minutes after the purchase. Only the character who originally purchased the equipment can return it for a refund.
OR confirmation dialogue which can be filtered in your options setting.

Ehhhhhh…I have a Berserker’s Pear Sabre…the stats are great but the design is just dumb. I want my transmutation stones so I can make them look decent, rather then the pile of trash they currently are. Your idea is good but not for the people who have already invested.
I like the looks of the T3 cultural weapons but I loathe the stats. What I’m wondering is if its possible to transmute the Warden (t3) sword looks onto my Berserker’s Pearl Sabre (which I hate the looks of).
From what I read I can just take a T1 cultural sword and do this. Is this true?
You mean +20 condition damage. Yep a whole whopping 20 which you’d pay 5g for.
@ OP there’s Mad Memories Complete Edition for Power/Condition dmg.
I forgot, Caltrops is pretty much mandatory to survive against a group of enemies as well, unless you use P/D very specifically and can spam Dancing Dagger.
The formula to this 9perma-cripple) is kite and every 4 auto attacks you throw a DD. It keeps the enemy infini-crippled.
So far the game has lasted me 2 months. I’ve recently hit 80 and have almost fully pimped gear on a single character.
There’s a ton od stuff to do but I don’t think I’ll ever make another character…
WP costs are small but they add up quickly and because of how the content scales I can go from being powerful in Orr to being a trashy character in a lower level area. Because of how much I’m scaled back I never, ever feel like going to a place where I’m not lvl 70+
Can I ask where you farmed?
Mel’s Reach at one of the temples. There’s a quest that infinitely spawns the lightning ball things if you don’t progress the quest.
Imo they should buff the back piece by +6 stats (per stat), it’s only a rare anyhow…
Very considering when I did my lode farming for 1 hour I had 3% MF, ended up with 2 charged lodestones.
as a lvl 80 quest item you get a masterwork back piece that has 1 less stat in the boosted stats then the guild backpack and yet the guild backpack costs a crazy 5g.
I feel there is no incentive to get this item at all.
Thief leveling is more time consuming, I wouldn’t say harder. Start doing more hearts, story quests earlier and go exploring more often.
It would be really cool if they let us port to any (or even just our own) home city for free too. LA always has a ton of people in it but the other home cities tend to be much more dead. I think this has a lot to do with the free port there.
It’s a central hub with just about every portal going to it and where people can spam for dungeons. To be honest, making teleports to the home cities free will not change anything.
Exactly, make all city waypoints free no matter how far away you are.
@BabelFish I farmed in Malchor’s Leap south of Dwayna for 45 minutes and didn’t get a single core, let alone a lodestone.
Yeah, you’re just plain unlucky then. Get some MF gear (I hear rune of the pirate is cheap) and go farm for 1-2 hours. You should see a charged lodestone drop. 45 mins isn’t long enough.
I should actually start doing my month for karma but once I get 72000 more I won’t ever go out of my way to do the monthly again (in fact it’ll take me less time by just doing the dally for 10 days).
There definitely needs to be a better reward for monthly. Maybe a potion that gives you +50% dungeon tokens on your next dungeon run.
Get some MF gear and start Lodestone farming in better areas. In 1h I farmed 2 charged lodestones.
Assassin’s Reward doesn’t heal very much.
Capes as new back pieces would be nice…we’re sorely lacking in that department (where are the exotic back pieces?)
Good thinking but this is pretty much validating the existence of bots within gw2. I’d rather they just figure out a system to keep the botting to a minimum (there’s no such thing as bot-free).
I still use PW in PvE. It’s not THAT bad…I still own mobs in Orr…I tank better then guardians and warriors in dungeons and my dps is still pretty bloody high (even without being a glass spec).
To be honest what got nerfed when it came to PW thieves was the glass PW burst build, not the tank-y version but yet, the nerf was overkill and should be reverted. Auto attack does comparable damage to PW now.
yeah never got the appeal of most destroyer weapons…they’re generally pretty ugly (although the pearl sabre isn’t any better then the destroyer sword).
The screen shot was taken today my friend, you can claim it doesn’t happen all you want.
The fact that you say it is rigged shows the level of delusion we are dealing with.
Now tell us what class and equipment you were using.
Holy crap that’s op.
I don’t get why no one accounts for the many ranged mobs in Orr. .-.
I do and I have no problem with them. The only times I die is when I get CC’d into a gigantic group who insta-gib me before I can get back up or in dungeons when there’s a particularly hard fight (and even then I’m usually one of the last of the party to fall).
1400-1700 toughness is good if you’re not a glass cannon. It’s relatively important but it’s not the end-all-be-all for survival (it reduces damage and a little toughness goes a long way)
As a thief you should have relatively high power, you don’t have to spec into Deadly Arts but you will need your gear to boost power 1st and then after that, depending on what you’re aiming to do precision or toughness followed by critical damage or vitality.
Valkyrie gear isn’t half bad for a Thief if you want a oddball power/vit/crit damage combination, giving you the glass cannon effect without being excessively fragile.
Just did a CM EM Asura path. With this build I was out dpsing the entire party (thanx haste+trickery+pistol whip) and was dying less then the guardian while collecting just as much agro.
The party was commenting on the absolutely insane dps I was doing.
Just went through this instance took the asura path. We dominated it. With my S/P build I was doing more dps then the rest of the party combined and was out tanking the guardian. They weren’t bad or anything…lvl 80s, some exotics but not full sets.
You just need a build that’s tough as nails to do dungeons properly and then you’ve got to know what’s coming. you can’t waltz into a room without knowing there’s 15 bandits that will own you…
Your problem it seems is you’re investing too heavily into Shadow Arts which is agro central. As a thief you don’t want agro…that gets you killed too quickly.
Next problem is you’re running D/D. /D while not horrible is not a weapon set that promotes extreme survivability or consistent dps. You’re clearly built as a burst thief.
