Search and Rescue doesn’t revive downed allies.
Wtf is the point in using the skill anymore?
Pretty boss unjustified nerf.
And the cool down is increased for the fun parts of the game.
Overall the patch is the suck.
It is the only time I would break out a spirit, worthless otherwise.
Over all a rather disappointing patch yet again. Not much good news for WvW. No lb improvements etc. Most pets are still dead in no time with minimal health increases other than the drake which had a large health increase. No mention if pets can hit a moving target yet or not with any reliability and pet f2s are still slow and now don’t track.
For this patch: drawing on the minimap is working.
When playing, you now your teammate’s profession icons (you don’t just see a green dot, you would see a Warrior, or Ele, or Thief, etc.).
Any way we can customize this to show group member and guild mates as a different color. Would love to see the functions in the old UO Automap added.
Same here im an EU player on an NA server same issues,
No friends list
No guild list
Cannot join party either.A friend who is online from Australia in the same guild is having no issues game is ok for him, so its a local region error it seems.
This happened to us last Thursday night the 25th. Kicked my brother out of the guild re added him with no luck. In the morning things were back to normal for the most part other than him not being able to access the guild bank due to the needing to wait 72 hours bs. Truly an annoying bug.
@ Bailey:
I uhhh… estimated 40 min in a fractal. They can be done quite quickly depending on scenario and group, but I thought I’d be conservative with my assumption on player skill. In either case that’s still less than one hour a day for fractal running :/Also: I can’t say I’ve ever really had an issue with the pet. At least not game-breaking difficulties. What I would like to see, is just give the pet an auto attack that it does by itself, make F1 a toggle “attack my target/return” and replace the F3/F4 with the other two attacks the pet has access to (the pet class ones). They could easily just make another hotkey for swapping pet. I would even take just having the control attack the pet has access to (knockdown/cripple/condition removal, most pets have some form of control that they use independantly) being on a hotkey so that its on demand, if not both of them. That and make the active skill F2 actually interupt the other skills the pet does… just to make it more responsive…
@Stale:
This entire thread/build is about how the longbow isn’t as broken as everyone keeps moaning about.
I guess I missed the part where you said 2 months, daily and so forth. When I said an hor was to long thats what I meant, from start to finish. Not an hour per instance or fractal or per day but an hour total. The AI is that bad.
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Looks liek it would be a fun build to try out. Saw all the ascended gear cried a litte on the inside. Thank you for making the vid and talking about the build.
@
@Stale:
It really doesn’t take that long to get ascended gear in this game, and as it is the highest stat you can achieve I think its only logical to assume people will at least TRY to get it. Once you get to fractal lvl10 it is a maximum of 20days (less if you luck out and get the ascended ring as a drop) to get your two ascended rings. You can get your ascended amulet within a month, and provided you are in a decently equipped guild you can get both your earrings in 2 months (getting 3 guild commendations a week). In the scheme of things that really isn’t that long, considering it would take ~40min a day (on those 20days) to run your daily fractal, you get laurels by playing the game anyway, and perhaps another 20-40min a week for the guild activities to get the commendation.
That is far to long, any more than an hour in an instance is to long. I deal with poorly coded boring ai enough as it is with my rangers pet last thing I want to do is go look for it in their dungeoun scripts.
Besides them saying no gear grind blah blah you get the idea. Seeing their shoddy programing daily with my pet is enough.
I do not understand those who still want their pets and the spitting (nerfing) of their damage.
Just because Anet sucks at balancing/design doesn’t mean it can’t be a good mechanic.
Sadly I disagree based on what I have seen come out of anet since beta I doubt they can do it at least not with what they currently have to work with. Would love to be wrong, as the ranger was my first 80 and is the class I want to play.
I like this idea, anet make this happen.
I do not understand those who still want their pets and the splitting (nerfing) of their damage. Although to make them happy have it so the beast master line changs the ranger from the cool and good idea listed above back into the borked class we have today.
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Man, I’m so happy this guy pointed out how amazing our damage is, We can now drop our Bunker and Trap builds and spec Longbow with Glass Cannon for extreme pwnage.
If you don’t like it, don’t use it. I’m just tired of people saying how underpowered rangers are. We have specs to deal damage in every way possible in this game that are competitive. We have specs that are incredibly survivable.
We are underpowerd tho, as long as our damage is split between us and a shody ai (anet programing) we will always be underpowered. No matter what you do that spit will be their hindering our damage.
Hello,
I have speced for trap damage and while I enjoy them they are frustrating at times. It either requires you to get in close to the target to drop the trap or hope they wander into the small area you have set said trap. I do not use the ground targeting trait so that could be part of the issue.
Flametrap is my staple trap due to the short cool down, with my secondary being spike trap. I rarely use the viper or frost trap although jumping through the frost trap is kinda fun to get the aura.
EDIT:
I am using carrion armor, with runes of the undead and cant recall the jewlery I have…other than the guild assasins backpack of the zerker just becuase I didnt recall seeing a condition backpack and have not gone back to look.

@Bailey:
Name one offensive skill that is not on a Ranger that has a range of 1500 units and I’ll concede the point. If a target pops a retaliation buff then it is a simple matter of cancelling the skill -> you are still 1500 units away and by the time you/they close the distance their retaliation will be gone.
[/quote]
Engineer Grenade Kit Builds
. This skill is hitting for 10k at 1500 range, beyond any other classes ability to even retaliate.
Sigh wrong yet again and that is not including retaliation but a class that can and often has the same range as that and is not a ranger.
Someone please explain how this new pet AI is a good thing with a ranged pet?
The “hit them from the back” AI change only applies to melee pets. That was clearly stated in SotG. So actually watch it next time before you go on a long rant about how bad the change is, please.
The rant is a valid one, we have all seen their skills in the past…so yea the ai will most likely blow chunks as their past attempts have.
What they did not address is if their new ai is going to screw the pooch in pvp and wvw if the pet is constantly trying to get behind the target it won’t be attacking. Would be nice if they are going to talk about something they cover all aspects.
Just one more reason why their should be a test server.
I like how you use a ranger there
To all the negative nancies who apparently play other classes:
1. Why are you in the ranger forum randomly trash talking.
2. This build has 4k attack before might, and can get an easy 8-10 stacks of might from pet auto’s in Rampage as One.
3. I say reliably hitting 10k as in almost every time, on an 8 second cooldown. I have hit higher than that.
4. I never said that Rangers have the highest damage output, only that they can achieve the highest attack stat.
5. The survivability of this build is above average for a direct damage ranger build
6. Come at me bro
Not being negative showing you relaity, as for not mentioning the ranger well that was obvious, was showing you good damage with out the need to rely on shoddy programing and sub par AI. And the damage is nearly instant, rarely if ever obstructed by wind and does not force you take multiple utilitys to achive it.
Ranger is my main, it is my favorite class to play and yet even I can admit it sucks more than a two dollar who er well you get the point. By comparisson in WvW we are subpar.
Soooo many people disillusioned with the Ranger… So very depressing. But you know what? Still my favorite class. No one likes longbow, its a ‘utility weapon’…
Dev’s say the Longbow is a good damage dealing weapon and you know what? They are right. Good lord are they right. I reliably hit 10k DAMAGE on my Rapidfire against all but those with either protection or are built full bunker. My auto attacks land for between 900 on a non crit to 2.5k on a crit. Thats not the tool-tip, that is the number popping up on the screen. Did you know Rangers are the class that can reach the highest amount of Attack in the game? My ranger has 4k attack BEFORE MIGHT, 47% crit (with fury on) 77%crit damage 2.2k armor and 20k HP. And I don’t have full set ascended trinkets yet.
Please stop crying about how underpowered the ranger is. It would be nice to get some updates or buffs on the pet, and the utility skills, but we are NOT lacking for damage. Have some candy and suck it up butterball: 4k Attack Longbow Ranger
14 to 20k with kill shot
7k with mug
0 relying on shoddy ai
(edited by Bailey.6892)
I am afraid spirits health will still be sub par. Now if they were as hard to kill as a warriors banner then that would be something.
And by “as hard to kill” you mean impossible to kill, right? And mobile. And have effects which are active 100% of the time and also have no internal recharge all without being traited.
Yeah, if spirits were like that then perhaps they’d be useful. How does a physical object (a banner sticking out of the ground) not take any damage but a spirit (an ethereal, non-physical entity) does? I mean kitten at least allow me to chop a banner in half if I so wish.
I would be fine with the trait that allows the spirits to move to give them false life and a hit point pool. The non mobil spirits should be like the banners.

The last comment:
it’s not a bug, this was intended. the reason behind this (and someone has mentioned it, possibly a dev, I’ll dig it up and link it later) is that each name you make for your own character utilizes a name database. now imagine for each individual pet you have you made unique names. That means new databases have to be created for each individual pet. Now I assume you have never programmed a database before, and I have only done non-professional maintenance on one, but they would have to make sections for each animal type, break it down to specific animals, then link individual names per animal to individual accounts, all the while making sure there is no redundancy of names and other redundant info…..it’s not really feasible, especially when it takes you all of 25 seconds to retype that name. If it takes you any longer, get typing lessons or choose a shorter name lol. now before you put the torches to me, I do think it would be prudent to make the actual pet slots name-bound, that way even if you swap, the same name is still there and saved in the same spot, only now you have a new pet (although this would still require new assignments, I think it would be much much less labor intensive). So there’s your answer. For now stop being lazy, they just don’t have the resources to do it. -Nay of the Ether.8913
These are just assumptions by players. Until I see an actual quote from a dev I don’t buy it. And you know what, even if it’s true then I’d say they created a really crappy system. WoW is an old game and you can rename every single pet you have. And there are countless pets to tame, way more than this game. They are even increasing stable size to 50 pets. If an old game can do this, then a modern game should be able to kitten well do this.
wow has more money and can spend it on better talent. Would be nice if things like this could actually be put in place. As well as things like a test server, you know the basics.
Its only the stats that are gettin buffed.
Do we have anything that would count? The toughness one maybe other than that none I can think of.
Poorly is my guess based on their past coding skill.
I am also concerned that the pet trying to get behind the target will screw us in wvw even more if the pet is concentrating on that and not attacking.
EDIT:
One of the reasons their should be a test server.
Since all signets are getting buffed, I think Signet of the Wild should get double its healing as well, otherwise it will never find a slot compared to the other options.
It would be a joke if they did not improve the passive healing. Although that tends to be the competency levle of anet..a joke.
Ahh if that is true then they were just lazy and or incompetent.
SotG is great but we all know that it’s not the complete list. Once of the reason we dont get patch note’s on release of SotG is that things can still be added. Like the quickness neft in the last update.
As far as the cd on pet death: as long as when can attack at over 2500 their need to be a draw a back for allowing you pet to die. If they every remove this then i would be in favor of removing the cd. Also considering we have on demand 33% damage reduction for our pets (this includes aoe) by way of guard. I really dont see why people cry about aoe in WvW.
The pet ai update doesnt really worry me in that I am sure they tested it and if it does cause a problem. It will probably be remove the first day if not in the first couple of hours.
Becuase guard would force us to ake an extra skill to try and be on the same field as another class. Guard is not a valid answer, reducing the pets portion of the rangers dps IS the answer. It can then be added back to the pet through the beastmaster line so that the people who enjoy the shoddy ai can use it.
Looks like the signet buff wont be all that for rangers. It sounds like it is for signets that affect a single stat…trying to think what ones of ours do that although they are slipping my mind.
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru/b/396007412?t=007m02s
The link goes to the signet portion thanks to the mesmer forum.
I am sad about retaliation though because it’s something you have to be aware of. I feel great when I notice retaliation and say “NOPE NOT ATTACKING”. Don’t you? That’s a skill thing, I think. I wonder exactly why it is being nerfed, Xsorsus?
You’re on Tier 1, you should full well know why it’s being nerfed.
Every large fight starts out with the enemy casting veil, stacks of confusion on you, and the 20+ enemies from the back with no conditions rushing in to bowl over the people in the front that are on a timeout because there’s no way to cleanse immediately from having multiple stacks of conditions on them. It basically is kill yourself or sit there and be killed.
It has nothing to do with not attacking when you’re affected, that’s only applicable in 1 v 1, especially confusion even damages you when you have buffs that are procured from dodging. Like protection on roll. Confusion in mass pvp is OP and cheesy as hell, and it’s about time it got nerfed.
Going to T2 tonight and I have to disagree, confusion and retal should not have been nerfed. And as a human ranger I do not even have access to confusion. Also screws some of the anti theif warrior builds. Over all it is a poorly thought (assuming they do) plan.
“Also the pet moving behind a target if it doesn’t have aggro is a nice change. It will help especially with the cats as they usually dont have aggro. That way they will survive alot longer.”
Whoa! One of the WoW Hunter changes I longed for. Nice!
This could be bad for WvW if the pet is always trying to get behind a target that is dodging and moving instead of attacking the target.
Pets are still the suck. Pet AI will most likely still blow, cant test this because the company doesn’t have a test server although I am willing to bet on it sucking based on what I have seen.
And pets will never be fixed if a bird cant fly.
I think pets are the best possible fix rangers can hope for since it will be like a 20% buff to your base DPS. In addition they are attacking at the same time you are…so it truly would be like having the two birds in the bush now in your hand.
Exept that we have no control over them really, the ai is shoddy at best and the pet will actually help other class’s kill you. The pet is a free stealth point for theifs.

EDIT:
Glad to see signets are getting buffed as long as it is the entire signet and just not the active portion.
Besides completely disagreeing with you that pets suck, I will say that I’m worried more toughness means bosses will aggro cats more. I have used the aggro table to my advantage before…
Ahh yes in pve I can see that. For me it is all about WvW and the lack of control we have over the pet with the extremely poor coding that are our pets make them near useless especially in a large zerg fight. Or if we are on a tower defending or even attacking a good portion of our dps is of little use.
No i liked the changes but still personally i wanted to see some weapon changes..They mentioned before about Longbow and still we havent seen any change..
I am with you on this. Sadly I do not see pets ever being up to par with the lack of control we have over them in this game. And since birds cant fly can we really say pets are working….just saying no reason I shouldnt be able to use a portion of my dps when defending or attacking a tower.

That sucks, just goes to show that anet hasn’t a clue.
Wow pet controll was most defiantly better.
Pets in gw2 will never be fixed until birds can fly, cats and spiders can climb.
i assume, you guys should fix the class itself first… but as you said… you know what happens when you assume…
But that’s hard and they haven’t had time to really work on the ranger class just since beta but what ever.
Seriously fix the kitten class first.
Thief elite skill Dagger Storm, never once had it not work.
Ranger Elite skill Spirit of nature never had it work once in WvWRecord it and send the video to Anet. Report it as a bug. If it’s never worked in WvW, sounds like a very reproducible bug so it should be easy for you to gather evidence.
It has been reported, even had a thread about it on here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/spirit-of-nature-wvw-bug/first#post1747954 and nothing from anet. Other bugs with the class have gone ignored also.
This is intended, for the most part. Can a warrior without run speed to damage to a running target?
Absolutly, and with their rifle their damage is not split between a poorly coded failure er ai.
I get what your sayig, I love the ranger it is my favorite class, I just wish it didnt suck more than a two dollar kitten when the fleet is in town compared to the other class’s. And a large part of that is poor AI and it is something that will never be resolved. Once a company can actually make a decent AI then their won’t be the need for pvp sadly no company to date can make a decent AI. And this is not necessarily a bad thing as it means we are not that close to sky net.
Even then we are left with the numerous other flaws, such as the sword sticking issue.
EDIT:
The poor programing is not limited to our pets AI, lets take the thief again as an example. If I use my elite skill it works, if I use my rangers elite skill it will likely fail.
And example would be the following.
Thief elite skill Dagger Storm, never once had it not work.
Ranger Elite skill Spirit of nature never had it work once in WvW
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Anet has NO love for the Engineer!
They have been nerfed to the weakest class by far!
I stopped individual PvP and only play WvW.
The only thing going for this class is their AOE ability for loot bags. (If you survive!)
Ranger
The draw back is this, if they stop sharing their builds and people end up not having fun they will move to a new game. This hurts the population of the servers and game, and since population is the most important part of the game I would recommend against hoarding builds. That great build won’t bring much fun if their is no one to use it against.
Short on time, although sadly I feel (with good reason) the pet is more of a detriment to the class than a benefit. This is especially true in WvW where the pet often miss’s especially moving targets, is easily kited and killed and will actually help some class’s kill you. Like the thief using it for a guaranteed cloak and dagger.
Thank you Sebrent,
Right now their are a lot of things, at work so not a lot time to dive into it. Although the poorly coded pet would be one of the major flaws to the game…sadly I do not see the AI improving. Our damage is also quite weak compared to other class’s. Doing a trap ranger right now and the damage is higher than my other build although is limited to relying on the enemy stepping where I want them or getting p int heir face to drop it and hoping they remain in place. The sword sticking and not being able to dodge is another one that glares up. Anet is a huge problem for the class.
Just wondering when we will see some improvements to the ranger.
Yes,
I play WvW and the small group I run with audibly sigh with tears of sadness when I log into the ranger and not the thief. The sad part is I absolutely suck at playing the thief, although they constantly point out I can get a couple kills on the thief and we tend to win our equal sized fights and yet loose if I am on my main (aka the ranger).
Not on the axe, that would suck imo. I hate the axe. It should be as nasty and long a daze as that of prybar.
Thanks gang,
I appreciate the feed back and the help. It would not be a single transfer although a small guild. Really to small to make a difference either way. We have been on DB since launch and thought a change me be fun.
Gate of Madness
Eredon Terrace
Fergusons crossing?
And I guess the general server population of these ones. I am currently on Dragon Brand and finding smaller battles is becoming harder and harder so was wondering what it is like for other servers.
Would like to see server forums added.
Trying to find out information about the state of WvW on Gate Of Madness and a couple others although with out the server forums this is being a pain.
Ours shortbow is the only on that has bleed when flanking restriction. Why?
Ranger is the only profession thats designed around always having a pet. Pets can get agro which allows the ranger to flank opponents much more frequently then any other profession.
This is true if we are talking about poor coding and subpar ai, wich sadly also describes our pet. Against anything that matters like a player then no this is not the case. Or against multiple targets.
