They have been running this build https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Mask-s-10th-wvw-vid/first#post1833684 and had soem one tell them they want to get around 20 stacks of might although they can not seem to get near that much. Even spamming elixirs.
Hello Robert,
It is nothing personal, although a lot if not the majority of the ranger comunity is frustrated. Their have been issues that were reported before release that have not been fixed. The gaming community knows that the ranger is is in desperate need of help and yet we really have had nothing positive done for us. Some minor gs improvements, and nerfs to qz. Animation normalization that hurts the dps etc. And yet thief’s are getting a buff https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Looks-like-theifs-getting-a-buff-in-WvW/first#post1856191
It is time for the team to stop what their doing and put some real work into the ranger class. Pets are not going to cut it unfortunately just due to the poor ai and a lack of control. I hope to see you back here, it is appreciate although more so I hope to see some positive and major improvements to the ranger class, anet has left us in the fecal matter for long enough. Take care, have a great weekend Robert.
You’re Rangers correct? I thought you knew how much the word of Jon Peters is worth…
This is true, I wouldnt trust him as far as I could throw him. Although I wouldnt mind the chance! To er trust him that is yea thats it.
For me WvW is the only interesting part of the game, sadly the class I enjoy just is not up to par. I have far more luck escaping and or killing on my theif than with the ranger.
Found this in the thiefs forum http://imgur.com/lmZgWLo the thread in the theifs forum is here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Revealed-Debuff-to-be-Reverted-in-PvE-and-WvW/first#post1855346
You can’t really avoid a ranger’s sustained damage, but you can mitigate nearly all of a thief’s burst with really fast reaction and smart play.
This sadly is wrong, an elementalist for example can easily avoid our sustained damage. As can a thief, I know on mine if I want to avoid it I can. If you see us a sustained class then that truly makes me sad. Although in that case we need to double or more the ranger base hp and defense to coincide with that imo. Sadly burst is king in the game.
Most people who criticize rangers to such an extent are those who- can not play the class well, have not been able to design a good enough build, haven’t taken time to actually learn the class and it’s mechanics.
Rangers excel at WvW roaming to the point of being called OP with the GS. Dungeons, they can bring a lot to the table it’s just a little less obvious than other classes. Playing a ranger is frustrating at first and difficult, your pet may just kitten you off. However learning the mechanics makes it all go away, it went from being frustrating and me almost deleting my Ranger to it becoming my main and favorite class to the point that I do not want to play my other characters most of the time.
There are more than two builds, there is a bunch of support we can bring to the table, lots of PvP/WvW options, for dungeons a few specific set ups excel more than others still, don’t let anyone tells you different. Ranger is the most hard work out of all other classes but has high reward.

What great sword build would be considered op? I have not yet seen it.
Any one?
Would like it if we could have a few variants of the skill. Take the suggestions above, redue the cool down a lot and then add the following. Lightning Reflex right, left, backward, forward, for ward right, forward left, backwards left, backwards right.
This would mean we are still stuck with going one direction but we could choose what direction we want to have on our hotbar. And if enemys became familiar with us we could slot a different direction. This would also make it so it was a lightning reflex and not a slow ground target type move etc.
Interesting idea, I think it might work better though if Lightning Reflexes acted like a dodge roll, and sent you in the direction your moving (or the direction you point your arrow keys).
Thanks, it may be although have a friend who is handicapped and playing one handed so that’s why I came up with the slotted direction idea. Not as much control as your idea, although better than we have and with out it being more than a click or button push. Either way would be fine tho.
Honestly I don’t understand why it cant be done in one patch. Plenty of time to get it done, the issue has been their since release so plenty of time to have known about it. If things go wrong and it makes an aspect op hot fix it. Really no reason that it should take more than one patch.
And when can we expect this patch and the details?
Mainly because there are other classes who also need balance, and these things need to be planned, built, tested, and analyzed. It’s not just a large workload, but also in a step-by-step process that has game-wide consequences that must be considered during all phases of development. Mix that with all the other classes and their changes, and it’s a pretty big task that has to be ready for the next patch.
Edit:
I’ve gotten in some trouble before about giving hints and releasing info early… so I’m going to leave that up to the people in charge if they want to do those things :x
Thank you for the reply, defiantly do not want to get you in trouble as you are one of the few if not the only one who actually tends to care about the customer and is willing to come here and put up with all of us. Even when we (me) are not always the most friendly. Thank you for doing so!
Possibly try a beast master build? See if that helps out, I will ask a friend where they leveled their ranger at this eve. I mainly did WvW so not much help to you. Could also do crafting to help with the leveling.
Sorry that I was not of more help.
Now Robert is going to quit ANet and change his name, maybe move to Bangladesh or Mongolia.
Being that my namesake is Czech, I think I’d give them a shot first
While I wish we could make pets super awesome ASAP, this patch will be a good step in the right direction. Will it solve all the problems? No, but it’s going to put rangers and their pets in a much better place.
I realize you all may have heard this song and dance before, and it’s okay to be doubtful about the upcoming patch – folks have been burned before, and its just going to take experiencing the changes and playing them to soften that. As a ranger player I am excited about the changes, and I hope once you all get a chance to play what the balance team has worked on, you’ll be happier too

lol massive damage
Sure it is.
It’s pretty considerable. You don’t have to come any closer than 1200 range to apply it. Not our best roaming DPS build, but arguably our 2nd best at the moment (and now our only real burst build), and still viable, just not at the very tip-top tier. Recent changes to turrets makes rifle turret even more useful if you are proactive in your thinking rather than reactive.
What would be the best roaming dps build?
Thank you gang, I do appreciate the help. Hoping to have the “nerds” over tonight or tomorrow. Will let y’all know how it goes with the new builds.
Glad to see you found one class you can beat. Although with my theif I have yet to have a problem killing a ranger and I am a horrible player especialyl when it comes to the theif class.
I hope what you mean is it is a good change for rangers in WvW since we are still utterly lacking in their and the last patch did little to help us.
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Ahh good to know Kardiamond, btw do you know why he takes the rifle turret but said not to use it?
Still work, but it mainly effective when you aren’t pressurised, and are fighting people with low HP/thoughtness.
Still a lot of fun!
Good to know, we noticed in a lot of fights that they focus on me (the ranger) and ignore my engineer buddy. This works out well for him as he can escape most times if things are looking really ugly. Hoping that now he will be able to save me.
Thank you Amadeus and Maskaganda! So far the engineer looks like a blast, I am a little envious of my brother and his engineer. Thank you all for helping me out, the longer we can keep him having fun and not being frustrated the better. Means I have a partner in crime.
And thank you Adamantium, posted this and then your reply showed up. Thanks again gang!
Thank you jpnova, do you know if cavilers can be crafted? I am not sure if she has a reserve of karma or not.
Does this build still work or have their been nerfs etc? Or is their a better buold for today that is similar?
Thank you Seras,
My brother is on the road and asked me to find out. He is trying to come up with a build that works for him. Masks 10th vid build is what he currently has although he wants to try something else out. And I want him to kill the bad guys so that I am not always taking a dirt nap
Hello,
A friend has asked if I could help them come up with a greatsword build. I can provide them with new crafted armor, they currently are in knights crafted armor with zerk accessory. Not sure what runes they have.
Tooltip does say ALL damage. So i would assume it would also be conditions.
Sadly it does not work that way.
Sadly anet does not understand what all means.
If so can some one help me figure it out please?
Was also wondering if this is possible and if so how I would do it. Is it possible to keybind a kits attack so that I can use the ability with out having the kit active?
I.E. If I take the nade kit is it possible to have the freeze nade mapped to a key so that I can use it when in pistol mode?
Hello,
A friend of mine is playing an engineer and using the build found in Masks 10th vid post https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Mask-s-10th-wvw-vid/first#post1833684 or at least very close to it, missing the monks runes.
Have a second engineer who is about to start WvW with us and could use some help, getting a build made and with choosing the right gear and such.
To be honest I am thinking of making an engineer as I am not having much luck with my main. Thank you for all the help, the engineering forum folks have been great, it is appreciated.
EDIT:
Mainly solo roaming or small group. If we are able to get together our group is now looking like the following.
Ranger or Theif (Me although lousy player so not sure I should be counted)
Ranger speced BM
Engineer newly 80 using masks build.
Is the core small group with super rare additions of a
Ranger or Guardian (They mainly play their ranger although have not been on a while)
Upleveled Mesmer (lvl 60 currently)
The draw back is we do not play often together so should really be looking at single roaming builds as our cooperation is lacking atm…we are working on it. I will be running with the engineer more although am horrible on my theif and just so with the ranger.
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Thank you Suralin and Rayya I appreciate the help, will be nice to get home and try this out!
Right now I am in clerics gear and set up as http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6.0|c.1h.h1e.g.1h.h1g|3.1g.h14|1k.7f.1k.7f.1k.7f.1k.7f.1k.7f.1k.7f|1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.1g.67.8g.67|u18a.0.k69.k36.0|0.0|4i.52.4q.4r.54|e
The draw back is the sword is confusing the crap out of me as I bounce around the screen….o and that I have been getting pwned is another problem. Mostly from lack o skill but also what feels like subpar damage.
Hello gang,
I am trying to get my thief up and going for WvW and could use some help please.
Right now I am set up with the following
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/thief/?7.0|8.1g.h19.a.1o.h14|5.1o.h2|1g.7b.1g.7b.1g.7b.1g.7b.1g.7b.1g.7b|1n.64.1n.64.1n.64.1n.64.1n.64.8c.62|k39.u61b.k36.0.0|0.0|57.5b.5s.5e.5v|e
Was looking at possibly getting a set of crafted knights armor, not really sure what to do.
I am going to be solo or with a small group in WvW mainly. Right now I die supper fast, and using stealth a lot is not an option for me unfortuantly thats why I am doubled up on the two heals that grant stealth although am willing to loose one of them if need.
Thanks nagymbear, although how do I get to the npc sparing partners?
And is that power/toughness/vitality or is the first p precision? Or is their a set that works better for our class?
So far I do not have a build, trying to get it all sorted out for tongiht.
Go into the mists and try out the skills and rune sets. Fighting those npc classes is just like PvE.
You wont waste money for gear or trait change either.
Dont be lazy.
How do you get the npc’s? When I talk to the npc he says something about maybe should try the dodge trainer and wont let me get a sparring partner.
Hello,
I have just finally made enough karma to do a set of the gods armor and was wondering if some folks could help me make a decision I wont regret.
I am going to be mainly in a small group or solo and am up for the longbow or short bow. On my off hand I have been using mainly sword and warhorn although have exotics of the others, torch, great sword axe and dagger.
The group will mainly be
Ranger (0/0/30/10/30 in knights gear with zerk accessories)
Ranger (me, currently 30/0/20/20/0 in clerics armor with zerker accessories)
Engineer (condition build/wrench kit)
Mesmer (up leveled currently at 60)
Is it better to get all the gear from the same merchant or mix and max or buy a new set of crafted? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT:
This is for WvW
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Thank you RyuDragnier.
Right now I am 30/0/20/20 and using clerics gear so defiantly time to come up with a new build.
I am going to be running with a small group tonight and would like to have something done, was thinking condition build.
Will be with
1) Engineer
2) Rangers (Me and one other)
Knights for me just because it is easy to get. Any one can get it, I doubt I will ever have a set of soldier or other pve armor.
What is the tankcat build?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/The-TANKCAT-build-Prybar-some-faces/first
bit less seen now than a while ago, but basically it’s still good fun.
Not going to explain much, the thread is more than long enough to hold all the info.
oh, and the video of the poster is really funny. It just is
Thank you! No idea whats what with engineers. Still learning and popping on the forums from work when I can. Thank you for the link and the help.
What is the tankcat build?
I would take it, seems to be well thought out and not op.
I think it’s time to change the WvW ruleset to share spvp limitations, like a hard cap on crit damage bonus at 60% and using the spvp formula for confusion, which is pretty broken against players with the PvE one.
I disagree, WvW is the best their is out their imo. spvp is just like sitting out side of ogirmar dueling to me. WvW seems to have the more diverse builds and imo the funnest play style. Would hate to see it turned into something like spvp.
EDIT:
I am also nervous about the team doing anything like this…they have not exactly installed confidence in me based on the past. So yea having them touch the code worrues me.
When using this the target never quite gets pulled to me. I have step forward a few steps to whack them with my prybar….is this normal?
I could be wrong although they may be saying they are having reduced condition damage in pvp compared to pve?
for zerg in wvw, try pvt gear, vennom share and 30/0/30/10/0
1dagger storm,
2.vennom share, then spam poison field+signet of malice & auto attack
3.collect loot bagseasy as pie
What weapon and utility’s are you using? Looking for a new build and this sounds promising. Although I would be stuck in crafted gear. Out of the crafted set what would you recommend?
Tanking stuff is a bad idea in GW2…
Especially with a thiefYou’d still obviously dodge major hits, the difference is a missed evade is a minor deal. This works as I’ve been running a build like this for months now, can laugh in the face of any burst build. (literally, stand there and laugh in their face while they barely dent ya :-P)
Would this work well with crafted gear? If so would you go knights armor and zerk trinkets or? Right now I am 20/30/20 with berserker gear/trinkets and runes of the ogre using d/p. Trying to get something made to help support friends and the small grp I run with.
Ahh thank you Tyaen,
Now I see why one would want to do that, I didn’t realize the stats from the major would stack with the superior.
Thank you all, I appreciate the help. Now I just wish I was not at work so I could log in and play around!
Why stack 2 superior runes of water and 2 major runes of water? I haven’t an idea how these work so not trying to question your motives but learn the why instead of 4 superior runes for example.
BTW Awesome vid. It has my friend back to playing.

Hello,
New to the engineer and had some questions, and well the info I have may be just flat wrong so hoping to get some help with it.
In this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Elixirs-have-it-all-the-rest-has-little
they say a self rez from elixir line although I have not been able to figure this out…and I have died plenty so was looking at the traits. I may have missed something.
Also had some one say we could get perma swiftness and was wondering how we do this?
Also was wondering on the trait that has an %8 chance to convert conditions to boons. Is this only calculated when the condition is first put on or for every tick of the condition. Also if it triggers for one does it convert all or just one?
(edited by Bailey.6892)
Nice vid!
what traits and gear are you using?
