Yeah, F&F’s start was lame, but once it got going I really liked it. The mini instance and the dungeon being the highlights and something I would lvoe to see more of going forward.

I am hoping that with the extra teams being dedicated to the Living Story that the updates will be more world changing and epic, but that remains to be seen.

Right now with the Bazaar of the Four Winds and Cutthroat Politics I am kinda “Meh” mostly because the Aetherblades are not really an enemy I care about. They feel like left overs from the last arc. They killed some random guy we never heard of because of… I don’t now… Reasons? (I might of missed something there) but the killer is behind bars and their base was destroyed. So, they are just kinda lingering. Popping into the Bazaar of The Four Winds and the latest update because they can.

I am digging the bi-weekly updates, but I don’t know… They feel a bit hollow. I know we can’t be fighting Elder Dragons every month, but maybe something like the Centaurs go on the offensive or maybe a campaign to attack the Sons of Svanir.

IMO this is what living story should be.

They might be saving them for a LS update where we all go to a beach party. Then there will be a sand castle building mini game, and every so often a world event where giant tentacle monsters emerge from the sea (They will have plus 10 agro to females) and we have to fight them without our weapons because we forgot them. After you kill the monsters they will drop watermelon just because.

I know I was for a second.

Another hint for any fancy suited Anet employees reading this: You can have a LS update and adding a dueling feature could be the big draw for it. Make up some jive that it is a festival to honor Balthazar. Add some extra fluff like a couple new weapon skins and some mini game maybe and you got your self an update.

BlackGate server full

I know with guesting and all that you can play with friends on different server. However you can’t wvw. Now there is potential for some friends of mine to finally start playing this game that I’ve been trying to sell them on since launch. I suppose if enough do actually start to play and keep playing I’ll move servers myself seeing that I am on Blackgate which is full. However I’m unclear of the cost to move a single character. Also I’m wondering if anyone has a guess if blackgate will remain full for a long period of time or if maybe it could change and open up at some point? Then I wouldn’t have to sweat moving. I know there’s no crystal ball that will say for sure. Just looking for some good speculation here

Thanks in advance.

If Blackgate falls out of tier 1 in WvW then I am sure there will be lots of transfers off, but until then expect it to be full.

Yeah, this.

Probably nothing as far as gold goes aside from the random coin and gear drops from mobs.

Basically Anet is grabbing you by the collar shaking the hell out of you screaming “WE MADE MORE THAN ONE DUNGEON WITH ONE PATH!! PLEASE PLAY THEM AND STOP SAYING THERE IS NOTHING TO DO!!!!”

Now you may of never said that, but alot of people do exactly that. Farm CoF path 1 over and over again, complain they are bored and use the argument “Well, it is the only place to make gold.”

Sigh Oh well… I guess maybe if we keep this giant mega thread alive someone in a fancy suit at Anet might see it and get an idea and bring it up in a meeting.

It is probably too late for them to be able to add something like that to an update a week a away from being live, but a dueling arena would be pretty awesome. It is obviously something alot of players want since the thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Open-world-Duels-Merged/first has more replies and views than the first two pages of this forum combined.

And the proponents of dueling continue to ignore the more important barrier to the implementation of dueling.

May I ask what this is? I did address why this could help Anets bottom line a few posts up.

But honestly I don’t think duels will be a huge hit to custom arenas market since arenas use Spvp stats and are not even made for duels.

Yes, it might make a few servers shut down, but I can count the number of dueling servers I see up at any given time and not run out of fingers.

The biggest hit I can see will be to the windmill WvW dueling crowd, but I think those people would love to guest to a specific server and fight club the night away. While not taking up WvW slots that could be used for people actually WvWing.

I came back to this thread to make a suggestion that I think would remove several of the problems people have with the side effects of the duel going on.

Instead, I find this:

dueling would be sweet. But too many people in this game cant be bothered to interact with others and would prefer it to be a single player game under the veil of MMO.

All the arguments against dueling can be attributed to carebears, who’s roots can be traced back to that one time an undead rogue ganked them in STV and now they get PTSD flashbacks whenever confronted with any form of competition in an MMO.

It’s sad but it seems people would rather play with each other less and just spend money on a cash shop in order to also play the game less.

If THIS is the kind of stuff we’re getting when the pro-duelers are trying to put their best foot forward, then it’s clear they’ll be total kitten-sphincters should dueling ever go live. This isn’t the first such insult in the thread, either.

Change my vote to a very strong “NO” to the idea. If they’re not staying civil here when they need to make a good impression, there’s no hope they’ll behave when they’ve gotten what they wanted.

I wouldn’t say Scrambles was putting his best foot forward because like many people in this thread (On both sides.) he couldn’t really care less about what the other side thinks.

While he did exaggerate and generalize, you are kinda doing the same thing. He thinks people who are against dueling are cowardly care bears and you think people for dueling are kitten-sphincters.

But just like every online community (Facebook, Website comment sections, and yes MMORPG’s) there will be trolls and people you would just rather not talk to, but this is why we have block features. So, ignore the trolls whether they are in game or on the forums, and never let them be the reason you don’t enjoy something. Especially when you can instantly banish them from your life.

I still have not seen an answer to the question, “Why would ANet implement a free feature that would compete with an existing paid feature.” I suspect if dueling is to ever get beyond the wish stage, that question has to be answered. Don’t think “goodness of their hearts,” think “money.”

That is not really something on player’s minds, but you do have a point.

Possible benefits to Anets bottom line can be from;

Player retention – The more things a game has to offer means more things the player can do before burning out.
More gold being sunk into TP – The hardcore duelers are gonna need food and oils to be at the top of their game.
More gem store purchases – Player made tourneys with gifted gem store prizes or even someone just hanging out watching some duels and thinking “Wow, that guy has some sweet armor. I think I’ll buy that.”

So…. I have to ask… after reading so many people using this reason for wanting duels….

Why do you need to test your PVE gear in a PvP setting? You can get all the same skins in PvP. Why does PvE gear matter unless you are doing it solely to have a gear advantage over your opponent (ie Ascended vs Rares).

Edit: And you can do that crap in WvW anyway. (PvE gear vs PvE gear)

We can duel in WvW, but not with our friends on the same server or without the risk of interference.

And as been said quite a few times Spvp is a different thing entirely.
Yes, we could technically buy a server put a password on it and invite a friend, but that means gold out of our pockets, completely different stats due to the gear being completely different and it is just a pain in the kitten when you consider most MMOs have such an easy to use feature such as /duel.

There’s nothing to be gained from Focus on Dueling. Least of all meaningful rewards.

No one here is asking for a dueling focused game or rewards. Just a simple feature to allow us to randomly challenge a friend to a a duel.

We know the game is not balanced for 1v1.
We know there will be zero rewards from it.

That post I linked at the top has me excited. More teams having more time to make these updates mean bigger and better updates.

Gamers sometimes just confuse me.
If they had said before release that they were going to not have expansions and do bi weekly free updates on the game that expand upon it, the gaming forums would have a massive cleanup to do while everyone went to put on a fresh pair of pants.

Thank you Galen Grey for making this list “100+ Guild missions, 2 Dungeons, 50+ new Dynamic Events, 3 PvP maps, 3 news mini dungeons, a new meta event, a new zone and the changes to WvW.” because that sounds close to an expansions worth of content (Maybe add two more zones and a new class) and the kicker is it was free and done in less than a year after release.

My point being, relax.
Enjoy what the game has to offer now, and lets see how the added Dev power to LS pans out. If in 9 months (About a year and a half after release.) you still feel they are hollow then by all means ask for your new classes and zones.

I’d be fine with dueling arenas in cities. Make them instanced? Even better. I’d also be fine with dueling out where mobs spawn — after all, it’s likely there will be combat there anyway. Now, whether ANet will be willing to make a free feature that competes with the current paid implementation is another issue.

This would be a fair compromise. In fact I would want it this way.

I am an RPer, so having dueling not be allowed in the main cities would be even better than duels anywhere and everywhere. Only trolls would want to have duels at the crafting stations or taverns and with a limitation like this it would solve alot of drama that would be caused.

Thank you for being understanding and level headed.

@Craptrain – You are embarrassing yourself. You should really stop.
Your analogy makes zero sense since not only is kitten ing on someone illegal in the countries this forum is geared towards it is unhygienic and real life does not have an ignore feature.

You are right some countries in the world do not have laws against that, but some countries allow honor killing for women who speak to a man other than their husband, and various other laws that we in the west think are barbaric and stupid.

We get it. You think the devs will go full kitten and break their game balancing for 1v1, the trolls will attack you because you are so important they will feel they must duel you and that is an insult on par with someone kitten ing on your leg, but hate to break this to you. You are not the center of the universe and your views are pretty out of touch.

There is no mules in Tyria. If you look at the wiki a mule is just a character that you use to store stuff on, and has nothing to do with lore.

Closest thing would be a dolyak.

So why do people keep saying they made Mules? To my knowledge there were yaks in Guild Wars 1. If it was just someone to store things on why not just say “I made a yak”. I just want to know some simple background lore…

Because they made an alt character for the sole purpose of storing items on. The term mule is used because it is a real world beast of burden.

You can make a “Mule” in any game where bank storage is not shared by your alts.

That is like the worst place for dueling, hence why people normally go to a flat spot with no enemies somewhere out in the world to duel.

Blargh. I’m done pretending you guys have legitimate arguments.

This is the bottom line:
Dueling is a playstyle currently entirely absent from the game. There is no way you can play against anybody on your server with the PvE build you’ve invested in. WvW doesn’t let you play against your pals or in cool locations. Custom arenas don’t provide the kind of build customization that open world does.

Running around the world immersively is not going to become absent from the game if dueling is added. The community is not going to fill up with trashbums. You aren’t going to lose the ability to block annoying people in map chat. You won’t be spammed with invites every 3 seconds or whispered by every guy out there. People are not going to decide that locations with lots of other people are suddenly great places to 1v1.

As for those of you complaining about effect spam? Your opinion is miniscule. Yup. If you can’t deal with 2 guys throwing things at each other behind whatever panel you’re staring at, you can turn off sound. And if you’re bothered by the visual presence of people casting things, too bad. Your activities won’t disappear. Being slightly annoyed some of the time while doing the activity you enjoy is not worth the complete lack of an activity that others enjoy

This is the kind of logic I am seeing from alot of people in this thread.

I enjoy flying my kite and people won’t let me do that in peace due to training dummies. Please remove the dummies from LA so that I may not be bothered. I know I can just go else where and even stay where I am at and fly my kite, but I kept seeing map chat saying “Everyone attack the dummy!” and I really liked standing right there at the time. Also please note the man laughing on the left he is the type of griefer this activity brings. Look at how sad Banono is due to the effects spam.

To me the grief argument is pretty weak because it against the already established rules.

It is like old ladies in a good neighborhood (My server TC’s community is the best I have seen in a game.) saying they don’t want a park because it will bring in drug dealers and hoodlums and the kids should just go buy and sandbox and play at home.

We have the police force (The GMs) to enforce the rules.

Will this add more for them to do? Probably a little bit, but after a few examples are made I doubt it would be a problem, and that is assuming it ever gets out of hand.

You are right. We can duel in the mists by buying a server or doing the long process of setting up duels in WvW, but is a huge annoyance and costly, so most people just say F that, and do something else. Sometimes that something else is going to a game that does offer a quick and easy way to duel.

It is contrived and a hassle, and most peoples attitude against an actual dueling feature are akin to saying “I don’t like it, so NO!”

I am not a fan of raiding, but there are some people who are. When I see a thread about raiding I don’t jump in and say “Well, you and 25 buddies can just go and do Lyssa’s temple event, so be happy!.” or “Go back to WoW” Because if it makes some people happy and doesn’t take away what I enjoy doing, I am all for more options and features.
I am sure there will be people in map chat being elitists and bickering about what builds useless and which classes don’t pull their weight. I won’t join in on those conversations because they don’t effect me. It is mapchat not my living room. If I don’t like what’s being discussed that is my problem.

My point is live and let live.

My experiences with dueling come first and foremost from WoW. Reference Gold Shire. There were idiots there that just stood there and challenged people to duel. They also filled up map chat with all sorts of juvenille nonsense, worse the other nonsense in let’s say Guild Wars 1 which didn’t have dueling.

The constant in chat bragging, harranging and in general just childishness really turned me off…and I turned off map chat. I don’t really want to have to turn off map chat or block 20 people a day.

And yes, I know there are PvP RPers, but they’re by and large the smallest percentage of the PvP base.

If that is all you have experienced then I now see why you feel that way, but let me assure you. WoW’s community is much worse than any other MMOs I have played.

If I were to judge groups of players by what I saw in WoW (Especially in lowbie zones like Goldshire) RP would be something I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole due to the public ERP and trolls (I am an avid RPer in every other MMO I’ve played.), I wouldn’t do dungeons because I would think it would be just be a group of kids saying “GOGOGO! Pull or I’ll pull!” and “OMG fail tank /quit” and Barrens chat needs no explaining.

There will be kittenheads in map chat. There already is.

Denying something alot of people want because a few people might be jerks to me is not a good reason. If some people want to smack talk to the point of harassment report them and know you just ruined his day worse than he could ever do your’s.

In other words don’t punish the innocent because some people might be stupid.

Nothing against you IndigoSundown.5419, but I feel alot of you guys are just flattering yourselves thinking people are going to hound you for duels to the point your block list will be full and you will still have the whispers rolling in.

Actually, I don’t think it will be an issue. That’s why I worded it as I did. My ignore list in this game is remarkably short compared to some other games and I expect it would stay that way.

I really wouldn’t expect much — if any — harassment from frustrated duel-wanters. I just believe in insurance. You see, I’m a pessimist by avocation. That way, most of my surprises are pleasant.

That’s the vibe I got. Which is why I complimented you on the choice of words and made sure you knew that even though I was quoting you, I was more talking to the people from earlier who think adding in duels means the 1337 kids are gonna harass them and ruin their game.

My main thing with this thread is all the “I don’t like it, so it will ruin the game” vibe I get from most these posts.

I HATE jumping puzzles and map completion, so when I heard alot of the guild missions were going to have that kind of content, I didn’t come on the forums and say “You guys already got JP’s and map completion go do that and be happy!”. Instead I shrugged my shoulders and said “Meh” quietly to myself because I don’t have to partake in something I do not want to. I wish others had this same kind of attitude.

I can totally see popping in here and saying “Not my cup of tea, but as long as they don’t F up balancing over it, who cares?” as a response, but most of the anti-dueling posts are akin to chicken little.

I can assure you guys the sky won’t fall and you will not be harmed in anyway if it is added.

This right here is probably worse than anything a duel can bring as far as noise and particle effects go, and look at Banono there! Zero kittens given. (Literally just logged in and saw this happening)

Your forgot standard armor repair costs when defeated.

I would like to see the duels end after you are downed. Mostly because I think the downed state in PvP is lame, but it will also solve that problem.

But that isn’t the way it works in PvE. IMO if you are going to pick a fight with some random player then you should be prepared to spend some time visiting the armor repair merchant. Perhaps if you are dueling a friend or guild member they will do you a solid and call it a match once downed. Plus wouldn’t it make it even that much more exciting to have more at stake than bragging rights?

I don’t care really either way. I am not ultra competitive and play for fun only.

I just want a quick and easy way for me and my friends to be able to have a quick duel in our WvW gear.

It is not like I am going to break the bank even if I duel and lose all day.

I keep trying to forget about open-world dueling, but every once in a while someone brings it up. On the odd chance ANet will read this thread and hasn’t read the prior ones, my stance is that open world dueling is fine with me IF:

  • There is an auto-decline duels option as the default
  • The ignore list is not capped — just on the odd chance I start getting whispers about why I’m auto-declining
  • Open world dueling cannot take place in social areas (trading post, crafting areas, role-play spots); in other words, so there are places duelers can go to duel, and other places other players can go to avoid being annoyed by duels

Why do I impose those conditions? Because any system put into an online game can be and will be abused by some players.

I like how you worded it “on the odd chance”. Because it is a very rare chance this will happen.

I am sure many of us have played MMOs that had a /duel. I myself have never been harassed over duels and at most I have had someone send me an invite randomly to a duel and after I declined sent another one and I am a “PvPer”.

So, this fear of being harassed seems like a moot point because first off it is against ToS no matter what the harassment is about. Just report the idiot get him banned and the game will be better for it.
Secondly why would someone care that you, someone who doesn’t even want to duel, won’t duel them? Unless you are in map chat saying you are the best and everyone is a scrub, you are just one person in a sea of thousands which includes people who do want to duel.

You mean like this?

@Craptrain – Ok, then goodbye. You think the Devs can’t balance their game. I think they do a good job. We agree to disagree.

So, you think if they add dueling people will QQ

We know for a fact dueling people will QQ – just look at this topic.

Between implementing a seriously flawed feature and not implementing it, the latter is better. Dueling would be something seriously flawed considering how the game has not been balanced around 1vs1. The game developers right now can’t even balance the current skills for the current game modes, they would never be able to balance more skills (which we have been told are incoming) for all the current game modes plus 1vs1.

I never denied that… Way to look at half a sentence!

People whine about everything on these forums and I am sure dueling will be no different and I have even stated that.

If they make this a game mode. I do not expect nor want it to be balanced.

It would just be there for kittens and giggles. Using the same builds and stats from PvE/WvW

Yes, because they’ve already demonstrated they’re willing to balance one area of the game to detriment of others. If they’ve taken an action once (or multiple times, as is the case), what’s unreasonable about expecting them to do it again?

And that is your opinion. An opinion that I do not share and the Devs do not share as stated in your quote. They balance the game with the whole game in mind.

I actually have faith in the Devs to not make a bone headed move such as balancing the whole game for a subset of players.
So, to me duels can only add one more layer to an already good game and make the experience that much more rich for everyone.

I would love to see the post where they said they would never balance Tpvp.

For.

You forgot the key word.

There’s a world of difference between balancing tPvP and balancing FOR tPvP. One implies that the game mode is balanced, the other implies the other game modes take a backseat to the one being balanced for. Understand?

PS:

JonathanSharp.7094:

As Allie said, we want to be careful to balance their (classes) WvW/PvE potential against their PvP potential, and then inside of PvP, we have to be careful to watch how they perform at high ranks vs. low ranks.

So, you think if they add dueling people will QQ and that QQ will lead them to break their whole entire game to appease that group of people? Because not only will they balance dueling they will balance the game FOR dueling.

I am trying to understand your argument, but you are assuming alot of things from one thing being added.

Also what does that quote have to do with anything? To me it sounds like when they make balance changes they do it keeping in mind each game mode people play. Isn’t that what you want?

2: Balance. People QQing over getting beat 1v1 by builds that are better at 1v1? Sounds exactly like what happens in WvW right now. No change.

Except that ANet can look at WvW and say “it’s not supposed to be balanced around 1v1”. How on earth could they say that about duels?

Don’t just dismiss people’s reasons simply because they’re contrary to yours.

By saying “The game is not balanced for duels or 1v1.”

Again, just like they said it wasn’t going to be balanced for tournaments…until it was. Then it wasn’t going to be balanced for hot joins…until it was. You see what happens here? You introduce a new game type, especially one that causes the tears that duels do, and it’s a slippery slope before you’re balancing for it.

Tpvp is their baby… They have been pushing for E-sport status since the game came out.

I would love to see the post where they said they would never balance Tpvp.

But it feels like I am talking in circles because this straw man keeps popping up.

Now dueling customers at work? Honestly, you have gone from strawman to just out there…

Over 30 minutes and still suppressed

Funny thing is on TC in Lion’s Arch this past week there has been a guy talking about being a drug addicted pedo spamming chat for hours on end and he is not being suppressed.

The funniest part is he is constantly reported because mapchat looks just like this;

Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: I once
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: did a drug
Random person in Lions Arch map chat : What is he going on about?
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: I liked it
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: (Random unrepeatable pedo trash)
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: (Goes on)
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: (And on)
Random person in Lions Arch map chat #2 : Just ignore him…
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: My grandma
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: Once
Guy who should’ve been banned days ago: (Unrepeatable)

He literally has six hour long conversations with himself and presses enter after typing two to three words.

Whereas WvW commanders? Always suppressed.
