entitled players vs skilled players

That leaves us with two groups of players directly opposed to one another, and the developers cannot – no matter how much they’d like to – please both at once. They’re either going to release content that is easy enough for virtually anyone to complete or they’re going to release challenging content that leaves less-skilled players crying foul. Either way, someone’s going to feel alienated.

The developers should continue to do exactly what they’re doing now – release easy content and also release challenging content.

Casual players will enjoy the easy content. Challenge-seekers will enjoy the challenging content. And perpetual whiners will whine, but they would have whined anyway no matter what, and should always be ignored.

I just want to know why OP kept trying. The first 500 didnt work, the second 500 didnt work and the THIRD set of 500 didnt work. Was there a little voice in your head telling you that you’ll get it eventually if you kept dumping gold into it? It doesn’t work like that when you’re gambling OP. Should have just quit after the first 500 and sucked up your losses. Now you’re even farther down the hole.

Sunk cost fallacy

If he throws 500 in and then stops.. those 500 were wasted. Whereas if you keep going, those 500 were an investment, you’re making progress..

Yeah, of course it doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t matter if you’ve burned 1600 rares already, the next four are just as likely to pop out your precursor as the first four or any other four.

But it’s very difficult to make the decision to stop and “abandon” the money you’ve already lost.

I guess you’re advocating for the removal of most of the achievements in the game, then?

Kinda weird that this game attracted so many people who are so obsessed with repetitive grind.

MMORPG players love to grind. Fact. Even better if the grind doesn’t require too much concentration, so they can whine about grinding as they grind, because they love to do that even more than they love to grind.

I jumped on last night, did some balloon tower events, the torch run, and then ran around the pie with the zerg, and had mad fun. Well done, ArenaNet!

I haven’t tried the solo gauntlet yet, and to be honest, I don’t expect to enjoy or beat it. But that’s cool, I expect different content to appeal to different people and I’m not in the demographic that finds punishingly difficult solo PvE fun. That’s cool. I’m not QQ’ing because some of the content is not targeted at me and people like me.

Wtf are you talking about. The issue isn’t that we can’t make money, it’s that the people who actually participated in the event by voting with their support tokens and have potentially a few stacks of now worthless representation tokens are punished compared to the people who simply sat on the support tokens and did jack kitten with them. Explain to me how that makes sense. I’d love to hear it.

Well, on the one hand, I have a huge stack of now worthless representation tokens.

But on the other hand, at least I’m going to get the fractal I wanted, not the Abaddon one.

To get the Liadri mini you just have to defeat the final boss of Queen’s Gauntlet. You don’t have to have five gambits active.

Regardless why do you keep releasing one time temporary content that is hard that has achievements tied to it :[? You have not responded on this issue yet that I have seen and I know others feel the same as I do.

I was playing this game casually now I have to go hardcore to meet the deadline.

If some of the content is easy and some of it is hard, then there’s something for everyone.

If all of the content is easy, then some players have content for them, other players have nothing.

I’m not saying this to be an elitist – the hard stuff is way too hard for me. I couldn’t even beat tier 2 of the Candidate Trials let along 3 or 4, despite spending hours trying with different characters and builds! But if you nerf everything to be so easy that an old-timer with slow reactions like me can beat it, where’s the content for the seriously skilled players?

I wasn’t sticking it to any fictional character. I was responding to a survey that the developers put in front of me.

and you’re the other kind of player who I absolutely despise. This competition wasn’t about RNG or not RNG, realistically the only real consequence of the vote was which fractal got made and which one got round filed.

Rubbish.

The competition – just like a real election – was about several different things, all of which have different degrees of importance to different people.

I could easily say that I despise you, because this competition wasn’t about one fractal which might be cool or might suck over another fractal which might be cool or might suck; that realistically the only consequence was whether the playerbase endorsed the practice of marketing real-money gambling to children.

I won’t, though. Although I will add that if the only real consequence of the vote was which fractal got made and which one got round filed, I’m not sure you have any grounds to complain – the fractal which is going to get made is the one that the majority of the public votes were cast for. It’s a shame that the minority that wanted to see the Fall of Abaddon will miss out, but it would be a bigger shame if the majority that wanted the Reactor fractal missed out.

I can’t believe that the average is anywhere near that.

I was playing regularly throughout the Cutthroat Politics period, and I only collected roughly half that many support tokens.

I have no doubt that plenty of people did vote 300 times – and I certainly have no doubt that those people would be well-represented amongst vocal forum posters – but I’m positive the average was much, much less.

RNG gambling boxes. Just a disgusting business model.

The voice acting in the personal story cut scenes. Bad dialogue, delivered poorly, and then made even worse by horrible editing that inserts lengthy pauses in between each characters’ lines.

So that’s a pretty short list compared to most games.

That’s a pretty low price for an important life lesson – gambling boxes in MMOs are a scam, and you should never, ever buy keys. Not in GW2, not in any game. Just say “no” and maybe game developers will one day start developing games again, instead of running borderline-legal casinos for minors.

Upon the first Legendary, you have 100% map completion which gives you 20 Achievement Points for Been There, Done That in addition to another 120 Achievement Points from Ascalon/Shiverpeaks/Maguuma/Krytan/Orr Explorer and, in most cases, Gold Hoarder (Golden Title) for another 40 points.

Sorry to derail, but 100% map completion does not imply Ascalon/Shiverpeaks/Maguuma/Krytan/Orr Explorer. I’ve had 100%, Been There Done That and my Gift of Exploration for many, many months and I don’t think I have any of the Explorer titles completed. There are plenty of little exploration areas with no hearts, skillpoints, waypoints or POIs – many of them associated with jumping puzzles, I think.

There is no way you purchased 524 exotics for 556g (even assuming you reused some of them and only had to purchase 400) this is still an outrageous assumption, unless you purchased them at the start of the game when they were worth next to nothing.

Well, I just went to gw2spidy and searched for weapons, exotic, level 80.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/type/18?rarity_filter=5&min_level=80&max_level=80&sort_min_sale_unit_price=asc

Skip over the items with no listings (which show a min sale offer of 0 copper) and you will see several pages of weapons selling for 1.25 to 1.4 gold.

He could easily have purchased 400 exotics for 556 gold, from what I can see.

Has GW2 ruined other mmo's ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Banquetto.9521

GW2 is the only MMO release since WoW that has been in the same ballpark as far as polish, attention to detail, and general quality.

GW2’s pace of content release puts all competitors to shame. That is the main factor that ruins other MMOs for me – the expectation that I will have to pay a $15/month sub, or suffer an exploitative cash shop, and still get less content updates than GW2 gives me for nothing more than the box price I paid nearly a year ago.

GW2 is not perfect, it could be improved, and it doesn’t stop me from looking at yet-to-be-launched MMOs with interest. But there is no doubt that it has significantly raised the bar than a game has to reach to keep me as a long-term player.

GW1 to GW2 - Steps Forward and Backward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Banquetto.9521

So, let me see if I get this right. When you are in LA, (lobby) and enter a Fractal (5man) you have effectively stopped playing an MMO? But then, if you zone to a Dragon with 40 people there, you have re-entered an MMO? Very confusing.

Well, if you’re in a 5-man instance, then no, you personally are not engaged in massively multiplayer action at that moment in time.

But the game is an MMO if it features massively multiplayer action.

Obviously GW2 features various different styles of play. It has PvP and PvE. It has open world massively multiplayer action and it has instanced small-group multiplayer content.

You will find some ultra-hardline types who swear blind that a game is no MMO if it features any instanced small-group content whatsoever. Personally, though, I think that’s mostly just a troll angle designed to be able to say “WoW is not an MMO!”

And, if you show up at maw, finish it with 12 people, tis not MMO, but if more show up, it is?

Note that at no point did I talk about any actual numbers. I said that massively multiplayer action involved arbitrarily large numbers of players.

How many players is the Maw for? As many as show up. That’s what massively multiplayer is all about. Even if only three people show up in the middle of the night.

Also curious as to what “interaction” is to you. If I am standing in a closed (100 players) district in Kamedan, as I was last night, buying, selling, people LFG, conversing.. that is not “interaction”? But.. 100 people standing in LA is? or is not?

I don’t think either of those are gameplay. You can chat, arrange trade, look for groups, etc. in a lobby in Diablo 2. Doesn’t make it an MMO.

Note that in GW2, LA is not just a lobby. It has several jumping puzzles.

Seriously folks, MMORPG was a marketing label to intro a different kind of game. Anet chose to invent CoRPG for GW1 as their marketing label. Arguing over the “strict” definitions of both is like arguing whether a “SUPER SIZE” softdrink is actually super, large, extra large or jumbo, and just as silly.

I disagree. I think it’s a real term and has real meaning. As does CoRPG, for that matter. It distinguishes GW1 from single-player RPGs where you control a hero and some henchmen – e.g. the Baldur’s Gate games.

I think terms and meanings are important. And it really gets on my nerves that people often misuse the terms because they attach a value judgement to them.

e.g. I like MMOs. I like GW1. Therefore I will argue that GW1 is an MMO.

Or I like MMOs. I hate WoW. Therefore I will say that WoW is not an MMO because “nobody does anything except queue for dungeons and battlegrounds”.

Well, I love MMOs. And I loved GW1. It’s not an MMO, though.

In every way that’s crucially important, GW1 was an MMO.

You don’t think it’s “crucially important” that an MMO should feature Massively-Multiplayer Online gameplay?

I kinda do, personally.

What’s your favourite MMO? Counterstrike is pretty cool, isn’t it?

As fun as it is to quip with extended acronyms, maybe you can get into specifics as to what qualifies for “massive” and in what context? I mean, I somehow doubt the words multiplayer and online are what bother you, as those are pretty black and white. It is online. It is multiplayer.

So… massive? Massive where? Dungeons you have 5 people. Group events I’ve seen 50-60 show up. ZvZ in WvW I’ve seen maybe 120 or so at once. The vast majority of content however you usually are seeing < 10 people at a time in GW2, and certainly less than 50, especially with culling in mind.

Um, you said that GW 1 was an MMO in every way that’s crucially important. If that was a typo and you meant to say GW 2, then of course I agree with you.

Massively-multiplayer means arbitrary numbers of players interacting. If it’s 4 players at a time, or 8, or even say 16v16 (like World of Tanks), it’s not massively multiplayer. It’s just multiplayer.

And personally, I only count the numbers in actual gameplay. Not in lobbies. That’s why GW2 is an MMO and GW1 was not.

Cultural T3 is deliberately priced to be ridiculously expensive in order to provide a serious goldsink, and to give those players who do want to seriously grind gold something to aspire to.

I don’t think you can use it as part of an argument that it is “too hard to earn gold”. Such an argument would really need to be based on comparing the gold earned by normal players doing normal things, to the gold required for normal players to buy normal things.

I would suggest adding a fee to all portals (including from the WvW and PvP Mysts) that lead to Lion’s Arch, provided the player has not been in the Mysts for less than 3 minutes.

This would stop the free teleport abuse, and not inconvenience ‘genuine’ Mysts players.

You don’t think ‘genuine’ WvW players would be inconvenienced if they couldn’t get into WvW because it was full.. of people waiting out their 3 minute timer?

Free travel to the character’s home city would be awesome.

Agreed. We can already go to LA for free, and by extension any of the home cities with just a few extra seconds by using the free way point to the portal area.

So I think they should have a warp to LA button and a warp to hometown button.

Actually, I think it would be better to have a warp to hometown but not a warp to LA. That would spread people out into the currently quite empty hometowns (to craft, bank, etc.), and you would take the extra step into LA if you wanted e.g. the Forge.

Oh, except 2 of those 3 story modes are actually for exp mode, if you read the comment, they’ve just been entered by someone too stupid to pick the right option from the dropdown.
