They appear to have a similar droprate to exotics in my experience; you can however get them from certain personal story missions (such as level 10 and level 30)

Sounds about right. I’ve never seen either a key or an exotic in a loot drop, in a few hundred hours of playtime.

Of course, as you say, I have gotten keys from personal story steps. And every time I do, after throwing away another few tonics and sighing about the bank space I’m wasting on boosters I never use, I really don’t feel too bad about never having had a key as a random drop.

This is by design, though. If there aren’t players willing to fight to hold the land from the undead, the undead will reclaim it. It’s the dynamic in Dynamic Events.

That design was based on the broader design that Orr would be endgame, though; not the new design that Fractals is the only endgame and there is no reason for Orr ever to have the critical mass of players to be able to hold the land from the undead.

I’d like to see a separate counter for points from one-off achievements and points from repeatables.

Not because I care about anyone else’s achievement points, but because I care about my achievement points, and I’d like to see how much I had achieved without the number being muddied by the fact that I’ve done the daily reward a bunch of times.

Anyway, the only benefit for dinging 100% is the gifts of exploration needed to make a legendary – and if you want to make a legendary, you’ll need to do a lot more in WvW than just run around exploring it.

Stick to your plan of levelling alts, and then park them when they hit 80.

I’ve hardly played my main at all since they switched on the endgame treadmill, but I’m having a fantastic time playing a Charr engineer alt. Nothing has changed for levelling characters, it’s still as fun as ever.

How many here are playing less? And why?

I don’t know that I’m playing less, but I’ve hardly played my main at all since we first started hearing the news leading up to the November patch.

I was enjoying working towards getting his gear just right (all exotics, with the right stats, and a great look). Now, I can’t see the point of bothering. Already some of his gear has been made obsolete, with the promise of more and more new gear to come, obsoleting the rest of it.

So these last couple of weeks, I’ve been 99% playing low-level alts, which are still fun.

Dear gamers, please don't ruin this for me.

I don’t understand all of the anger towards Anet at the minute.

This is an MMORPG. RPG games, since the dawn of time, have been about stats and vertical progression.

Well, exactly. A lot of us got very excited that Anet promised something that was actually different from the same old same old that RPGs have delivered since, as you say, “the dawn of time”.

And then it turned out that what we get isn’t something different at all – it’s the same old same old. Hence the anger.

Don’t get me wrong – I don’t think that progression games are inherently bad or anything. I’ve enjoyed them plenty. But if you want to play that sort of game, there are dozens of them out there. If you wanted something different, there was GW2 and nothing else.

Now, there’s just nothing.

I am missing one vista (265/266) and have hopped all over the place checking the numbers presented when each zone loads. Ayone have experience on how reliable those are? If there was a rollback, do those meters rollback as well?

I would be very very surprised if every zone said “n/n vistas” all complete, but your total was 265/266. But if you were bugged like that, you’d need to check every zone to confirm it anyway before putting in a support ticket, so you might as well.

Port to a waypoint next to a zone border, so you can quickly step over and check two zones per waypoint.

I was in a similar situation, one vista left and couldn’t remember which zone I hadn’t finished. Turned out it was Diessa Plateau, where I hadn’t done the Cattlepult vista because it was bugged when I cleared that zone. Any chance that happened to you?

Infusions affect normal stats!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Banquetto.9521

Banquetto.9521

So now we combine the two. 67 + 48 + 48 + 25 + 15 + 15 vs 72 + 51 + 51 + 32 + 18 + 18. Simple math one more time, and we now know that, not including the infusion gem, ascended rings have 11% more stats than exotic rings. The only infusion gems that appear to be released have 5 of one stat, not including agony resistance. If we add this into the equation, ascended rings WITH a blue infusion gem have 13.3% more stats than exotic rings.

As an aside, a rare level 80 ring has +59 +42 +42 stats. A rare level 80 orb has +20 +14 +14. Combine them and compare to an exotic ring + exotic jewel : the exotic has 14.1% more stats.

So the jump from exotic to ascended is pretty much the same as the jump from rare to exotic.. just a tiny bit less.

that is exactly what they have done here, add a new tier between Exotic and Legendary, something that was very important to do as this game is dying fast and loosing many players to boredom at level 80.

Uh, wrong, mate. Given that Exotic and Legendary items currently have absolutely identical stats, a tier between them would also have identical stats.

Ascended is not in between Exotic and Legendary. It is above both – and for that reason, Legendaries are being buffed so as not to be outclassed.

Are legendary stats on GW2DB wrong?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Banquetto.9521

Banquetto.9521

I’ve been relying on http://www.gw2db.com/ to look up info on items in game.

However I’m concerned that it may not be accurate.

According to GW2DB, legendary weapons have higher stats than level 80 exotics.

e.g. Pearl Broadsword 995-1100 damage, Twilight 1011-1117; Pearl Broadsword +179 / +128 / +128 stats, Twilight +182 / +130 / +130

But I read on a certain flame-filled thread on the general discussion forum (I’m sure you can see which one) dozens of people flatly stating that legendary stats are absolutely identical to level 80 exotics, and didn’t see anyone disagreeing.

So what’s the story? Stats are exactly identical? Or legendary stats are slightly higher?

Needless to say I don’t have a legendary myself yet to check.

Hmm, perhaps something along the lines of the Zaishen Missions and Bounties in GW1, where every day you’re being encouraged to go to a different part of the world. The current system does encourage you to find an efficient place (like the reactor in Metrica) and do the same thing every day.

How is WvW not doable by all players?

If a server consistently gets dominated by the other 2 servers in its matchup, 100% world completion is not possible and badges can come in at a rate of 1-5 per day if you’re lucky.

If a server consistently gets dominated by the other 2 servers in its matchup, it will surely drop down a tier next week. Maybe you’ll have more success against weaker opposition in the next tier down.

Wut? GW2 has competitive skill-based PvP while WoW has unbalanced stats/grind-based PvP. How can you say they are alike?

By “kinda like WoW” he means that neither game allows you to genuinely hurt another player (i.e. kill them and take their stuff).

In that sense, GW2 and WoW are very much alike; at the other end of this spectrum would be games like Eve Online and Darkfall.

5) Water combat is god awful and makes you wonder why it was implemented in the first place if you can’t even use your character’s carefully selected abilities.

Water combat does indeed suck.

But when you say “you can’t even use your character’s carefully selected abilities”.. it makes me wonder if you’re not aware that you can assign a set of utility & elite skills for underwater combat? It’s a separate set, so your bar is empty when you go underwater until you do assign skills.

I didn’t realize this myself until last week.. after playing through several beta stages and two months since release (/facepalm)

I don’t like dungeons either but the question “why?” is an incredibly easy one to answer: because ArenaNet want to prod players into trying different parts of the game. There will be players out there who have never bothered to get a group together and check out a dungeon – now they will. There will be players that tried dungeons earlier and found them too hard – now maybe they’ll give them a second chance and find them a lot smoother as people are more experienced.

Just make them drop the same stuff as normal mobs, but more of it. Like several items, 10 crafting mats, more cash.. the idea of them granting karma is also a good one.

Just so if it takes ages to kill them, compared to normal mobs, you get a stack of stuff like you would have if you’d spent that time killing a bunch of normal mobs.

Actually ANet´s “Gold 4 Gems” is a good solution already. Properly implemented, that is.

It´s basically copied over from EVE Online´s "Isk 4 PLEX ( gametime ) " and it has hugely impacted gold seller profit margins over there.

Well, except it’s not really a copy of EVE’s PLEX system.

In EVE, players buy and sell PLEXes for in-game currency. Therefore the price is a price which sellers are willing to accept for their $15 PLEX, and which buyers are willing to pay for a month of game-time.

In GW2, the gem-gold exchange rate is some nonsense fictitious number which ArenaNet have plucked out of thin air and does not reflect supply and demand at all. That’s why everyone who has bought gems for gold has been delighted at the price, and everyone who has bought gems for cash and sold them for gold has been disappointed at how little they got. That’s why legit gold-buying via gems costs something like five times as much as black market gold-buying.

The only way the currency exchange can have any effect whatsoever on the black market goldsellers is if players are allowed to buy and sell gems to each other for gold. Just put gems on the Trading Post as another commodity.

You remind me of this guy I grouped with randomly who proclaimed he hated events and only did hearts. “Hearts give you 100%, events don’t so I don’t do them.”

Well, if the game didn’t ram zone completion in your face so hard, there might be grounds to be surprised that someone would proclaim that they only do things which contribute towards it.

Hearts were added to the game to help people set in an on-rails MMO mentality to break out and realize they could wander, explore, and take part in the world. By the time you get to 70, they probably figured you should have the idea. Most of your open-world experience, plus your karma, come from dynamic events throughout the leveling curve.

In theory, yes. In practice, my experience has been that as I got higher and higher level, events got less and less frequent, and the ones that I did encounter were more and more likely to be bugged out and stuck. I actually felt that the game was training me NOT to rely on events as I got higher level.

OK! My main in LOTRO is a Guardian, and that class has much, much more interesting abilities than any melee class I’ve played in GW2. Underwater Combat: The issues I have with it

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Banquetto.9521

Hate underwater combat. The lack of options (two weapons, no utility skills), and the infernal bugging out kill it for me. I stopped using the knockback on my speargun for a while because I thought that was causing mobs to bug out (knocking them back into the scenery) – but no, they bug out and go invulnerable plenty often enough even without that.

If the bugs were fixed, underwater combat would simply be less fun than ground combat. As it is now, it’s something to be avoided. I do go after skillpoints and POIs underwater, but I will never do an underwater event, it’s just not worth the frustration and rage.
