RIP City of Heroes
Thanks, I thought it was just me and my non-skilled thief. I died a few more times than the OP but it was rough soloing it, even with useless NPCs.
RIP City of Heroes
Hope they hint strongly ahead of time. It’s not cheap shipping pitchforks and torches. Even the plastic Halloween kind.
RIP City of Heroes
Don’t forget we had an influx of cheap ecto’s from mesmers combining EoLs due to new dailies.
RIP City of Heroes
Servers are now more about WvW gameplay than anything use. Guilds are cross server and megaserver tech populates maps from players across servers. You can look at the current WvW rankings here.
http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/
Generally higher population servers have naturally a higher population of WvW players which get reflected by rank.
RIP City of Heroes
Ssssshhhh! It’s not an expansion, it’s a movie deal. Don’t tell anyone.
RIP City of Heroes
If we could get 2500 players each salvaging 2500 ectos, that would give us a much nice randomised sample set to make extrapolations from.
still subject to rng, all 2500 of these people could get 9 each time just because rng
But the odds would be astronomical. But with a sample size of 2500 you end up getting a clearer picture of true probabilities.
RIP City of Heroes
Roll 5D20s twice. If the all the numbers on one set match the other, you found a precursor. Otherwise you found 2 blues and a green.
RIP City of Heroes
We aren’t talking about salvaging ectos out of rares/exotics but dust out of rares. I too got around 1.7-1.8 per ecto the last time I did it.
RIP City of Heroes
This started a few days ago. At first I couldn’t log in, giving my the 502 message and now I get all sorts of warnings when I try to post, from admin permission needed, this area isn’t open, or being dumped to a nearly empty page with a link back to the root forum.
Now lets see how many times I have to try to get this to post.
Edit: This is the line from the nearly empty page.
Sorry, this area isn’t available yet. Please check back later. Try going back home?
RIP City of Heroes
Check the motherboard manual to make sure but it’s usually the physically closest x16 slot to the CPU.
Except looking at the MB you listed, it only has one x16 slot, so that’s not it. Pull and reseat the card? And as SirSquishy suggests, wipe the graphics drivers and install the lastest, can’t hurt.
RIP City of Heroes
There is no nerf. If there’s a nerf the price should changed and nothing changed.
You would think the price should change already with all the flippers around. It’s been 6 hours.
Well supply is up and price down since the patch. That indicates on the surface that nothing has changed.
We need confirmation from other salvagers if everything is OK or not.
RIP City of Heroes
2500 is a pretty big sample size.
RIP City of Heroes
We are derailing here if we start talking about the gem exchange and “VIP” plans. This is about new items the store can offer and we all know types we find there so can’t we stick to that.
RIP City of Heroes
Can’t +1 this enough. Incredible job.
RIP City of Heroes
1400 gems is roughly $17.50€ if you are interested.
RIP City of Heroes
If you loved the hell out of GW1, you may not like it here. The total number of traits have been greatly reduced. I find PvE very relaxing but hard core players think it’s way too easy and they can’t exclude the less than hard core from the few activities where partying is required. Too many “casuals” for them.
WvW is interesting but for me it’s like playing at the same paint ball center week after week after week. The maps have been primarily the same since launch and because of that strategy is now quite fixed. And since they pair up teams based on their WvW rankings, at least on the top, you play against the same 2 of 3 or 4 other teams which makes it even more predictable.
But if you are looking for a PvE experience that at the moment is fairly co-op friendly, allowing to play at your own pace, for free after purchase, it’s a load better than true F2P games that try to get you to “subscribe via a VIP system” or nickle and dime you to death over “classes” and content.
RIP City of Heroes
As someone pointed out, gold is the great equalizer as rewards for doing what you want to do. And to get gold from random drops requires you to sell disliked RNG drops on the TP where 15% of the price is sucked out of the game. If reward is tied to specific content, you are requiring players to play a particular event where RNG says you could get it doing anything and if not, someone is likely selling one on the TP.
RIP City of Heroes
They go on sale every so often and they sell like hotcakes then, indicated by the spike in the gem exchange rate. If they were cheap all the time then they can’t use a sale to drive sales near end of fiscal quarters.
RIP City of Heroes
Looking at the dyes here, the right most pair is on heavy which is mainly metal
http://dulfy.net/2013/12/24/gw2-dye-gallery/
I would say either Celestial or White. Neither are inexpensive, quite the opposite.
RIP City of Heroes
The entire LS 2 arc, which you would likely have to buy most of, is permanent and replayable. I think there was another dungeon or two added but I’m not a dungeon person so I could be wrong. I think there were some more fractals added as well as another map in the WvW area as a waiting area that’s now farmed.
RIP City of Heroes
CPU is a bit over twice as fast so that’ll be a nice kick in the pants over what you currently have. Helpful when lots of other players are around in combat.
GPU, that’s a bit tougher since AMD cards report family and not exact model. You could have an HD 6750, 6770 or 6790. Worse case, comparing an HD 6790 to a GTX 660, the GTX 660 is roughly 1.9x faster.
Good note is that you’ve improved both sides of the equation, CPU and GPU, by similar amounts. I think it’ll be safe to say that you’ve doubled your FPS at the same settings.
Of course that’s a SWAG.

If you eliminate the F2P titles then there is only a few. Most of City of Heroes’ expansions were free before they went F2P. City of Villains was initially a paid expansion and so was their Going Rogue expansion even after F2P IIRC.
If it does end up free we’ll all get to see NCSOFT stock self destruct as the analyst hype about income from a paid expansion goes POOF! It’s up nearly 50% over the last three months.
RIP City of Heroes
The armor archetype goes back to original AD&D if not earlier in terms of fantasy RPGs where fighters are in heavy, thieves in leather and clerics/MUs in cloth. And even though Heavy has ~30% more defense than light and ~10% more than medium it makes little difference because relying on your armor stat to reduce damage head on is like fighting a forest fire with a garden hose. You might be able to take one or two more hits but since healing is not as great since no trinity the combination of the two still won’t let you tank and spank.
This game is all about moving, dodging, applying very short term effects on the enemy to force misses, etc.
RIP City of Heroes
No you simply have the game running in two windows and alt-tab between them for input.
RIP City of Heroes
I’ve been told that essentially the only three professions that are viable in the game are Warrior, Guardian, and Elementalist. Everything else is a nice to have instead of a need to have.
And that’s your first mistake. All professions are quite viable. However the “accepted meta” says everyone should run Warriors with all Berserker gear. It’s not true, just an unimaginative cookie cutter build.
RIP City of Heroes
Yes it’s called Heart of Thorns but everyone thinks it’s the name of the expansion.
RIP City of Heroes
It isn’t against TOS unless you somehow get a single keystroke to feed both apps. For instance having one with a character parked at the TP to allow you to interact with and alternate with another character doing content isn’t against TOS.
RIP City of Heroes
Sadly this wasn’t in consideration.
RIP City of Heroes
Expansions only have one point, to make money. The more money they make, the more likely we will get more improvements to the whole game.
That’s the same wrong headed thinking behind the cry of “game needs an expansion”. Influx of income doesn’t mean more improvements. You are assuming that a lack of income is holding them back, that there isn’t enough people working on the game to make improvements.
RIP City of Heroes
I wouldn’t continue it in this fashion if I didn’t agree that there could be superior systems.
How do you feel about hybrid RNG systems that employ such concepts as ‘streakbreaker’ mechanisms, that eventually force or enable some manner of deterministic option? I’m curious, as they’re not uncommon (consequently, I imagine they’ve been examined in various formats before), and wondering what the reasons might be for why they aren’t employed…or if its merely a matter of that they haven’t been employed yet.
Are they off the table? If so, why.
Are they topically relevant? If so, how do you feel about them?
I don’t think they’re off the table. I’ve played several games using this type of RNG in my research recently and they are not my favorite solution, but that’s still a personal opinion, I haven’t developed a professional one yet.
Wouldnt streakbreaker or token systems add to wealth disparity between veteran/hardcore players and new/casual players?
Well ideally a streakbreaker wouldn’t shift the mean by all that much if it only impacted those who are outside of say the two sigma “unlucky” end of the tail. The idea is to only implement it for the ultra rare drops.
RIP City of Heroes
Sadly WoW MMO mentality is that expansion means a level cap increase which means vertical progression of gear which means more raids to re-BIS yourself. That works great if you are charging players monthly (or a one time astronomical fee to skip to max) but here with are fairly flat 1 to 1 1/2 hr per level leveling curve once you out of the NPE phase not to mention F2P monthly makes no sense to do that here.
RIP City of Heroes
Lol I’ve never had issues with the launcher and neither have I heard of other players complaining about it. I find it funny how the op gets so defensive about the issue
You just need to look at the tech board just after any patch. There are numerous threads about download and patch problem threads every time. Of course I believe the vast majority of players it’s a non-issue.
RIP City of Heroes
On an up note they did fix the dynamic price adjusting while you are typing in a price now. So no longer an 11 copper bid will be changed to 71 copper because it changes the first 1 to a 7 to reflect minimum purchase price as you are typing.
The focus shifting was there for a while now, it’s just more obvious with a slight highlighting.
RIP City of Heroes
Because after initial purchase it’s F2P. After blowing $1200 in 8 years on a monthly subscription game, a F2P with a upfront fee to keep out the rift raft found in a true F2P game sounded good to me.
RIP City of Heroes
That doesn’t explain how they’re projecting a big revenue boost in Q3, uncharacteristic of previous expectations. Are they planning on a really special aesthetic release? It’d have to be pretty kitten amazing to make the numbers work.
It would require you to read the report. The last reported number of sales in NA/EU was 3.5 million. The assumption, by the analyst and not NCSOFT, is that 2 million of those owners will buy a $50€ expansion, spread out between 3rd and 4th quarter.
Jogging over the the Reuters stock page for NCSOFT shows that the mean 2015 income estimates from 32 analysts are down 4% from two months ago and 18% from a year ago. That’s the reality of B&S and GW2 not blowing up big in China and WildStar in NA/EU.
RIP City of Heroes
Here’s the thing. I’ve never had a problem with the launcher in over two years. Played pretty much every day. Even when they started using Coherent UI as their browser, didn’t have any problem converting over to it.
That said it appears that for some people, seems to be a lot of the same people, always have problems. Go scan your system for malware. Make sure you aren’t running multiple firewall/anti-virus products or other apps that hook themselves along the Windows network API. Don’t use an anonymizer/TOR/proxy because you want to use Hulu or BBC’s iPlayer but aren’t in the US or UK, when patching.
It’s not ANet’s fault if their downloader doesn’t work with all the accumulated cruft you have on your PC to “fix” networking problems you have dealt with over the years.
And for crying out loud work with their support, file a ticket, so they can learn why your setup is downloading 20GB when the rest of us downloaded around 1/2GB.
RIP City of Heroes
At least they fixed the dynamic validation on prices as you enter them. I can once again type in 11 for a shimmering dust bid without the first one changed to 7 so I end up entering 71.
Personally I’ve never been bitten by the autofocus feature since my mouse wheel requires a small bit of force to turn.
RIP City of Heroes
If it ends up being “free” that’ll throw some water on income predictions. If it’s gem store only, that’s a different set of problems. Gold rich cheap players will drive the gem price up while cash rich players clean up converting to gold. Whether the two balance out, who knows. Personally I’m guessing it’ll be in the website’s shop and “expansion” cards similar to gem cards. You don’t need to ship media and stores don’t need a lot of shelf space to offer it.
RIP City of Heroes
I’ve always found that installing and initially setting up Windows and the rest of the tools more aggravating, at times, than building a system. As long as you aren’t all thumbs and know how to use a screwdriver competently (and use a static strap) putting the parts together is easier than IKEA furniture. But there are guides online and as long as you take your time, double check when you aren’t entirely sure, you’ll be fine.
RIP City of Heroes
Wait for PAX South to find out.
RIP City of Heroes
Mine was only 560MB I think and that was after the fix patch. NA English version.
RIP City of Heroes
For me the last file was quite large. Normally the earliest files are the big ones.
RIP City of Heroes
Someone drained the static supply from 3900 to under 300, which likely exposed a few ridiculously high priced ones. There are less than 50 bids over the pre bid price of roughly 40s which deters the price from falling even though static supply recovered to 85% of the supply before the run.
If you had a supply before this, good for you, sell now if you have no plans of using them while the price is still up there.
RIP City of Heroes
530MB here for the NA English version. But that probably includes that after patch patch as well.
RIP City of Heroes
530MB for NA English version.
RIP City of Heroes
I got the download size as 530MB.
RIP City of Heroes
Laurels as well.
RIP City of Heroes
Someone is confusing ANet with NC West.
