I’m different. I use the inverted T with my right hand to move in combat, R to run and the mouse to steer out of combat. Left and are number and F keys. I never was a huge FPS player so while WASD is pretty standard, I never really enjoyed moving that way.

Only 3.12g per SP according to my calculations but you use a larger average promotion output than me. And your drop rate only yielded 4.1g per SP.

I posted at 5:19 am EST and green logs had a high bid of 46c at 5:17 am EST and soft planks had a low sell of 5s83c and the same time. Data from GW2TP.com.

Doing the math means 750 green logs cost 3.45g plus the 50-60c for the shimmering dust as your cost while you sold your promoted planks for 86.3 × 5.83s x 0.85 so 82.11s profit for 0.2 SP. 5 times that is about 4.1g, not 6g.

And it was 6 1/2 hours after my post until Soft plank started it’s big nose dive today of over 50c in an hour. So it’s not me dude check the price drop over the last week. From 7.7s to 5.83s before I even posted.

I guess Silverwastes are over for the masses so bye-bye actual demand. New players mean a spike in green log supply which opened a short term window for big profits and now some players don’t know when to stop.

I think it’s still roughly 2+ gold per skill point assuming average output of 86.3 per promotion, it was 6 gold before Behellagh post and let everyone know about it.

Let’s keep it going!

I’m more conservative. I go with 82 1/3rd. One third of a 250 stack minus one for the catalyst. I also use 15 2/3rds for stack size 50 promotions like fine.

I hadn’t posted any for sale for about a day before I started this thread. As I said low sell was already too volatile for my sensibilities.

I didn’t mind the drop in price for green logs but the fire sale on soft wood planks is still blowing my mind. Yes anyone who harvested soft logs doesn’t really care about keeping the price up if they turn them into planks but the margin is being squeezed out for MF promoters.

It looks if green log bids have stabilized between 45-50c each but soft wood logs low sell prices are on the express elevator to hell, going down.

silk lost more than 40% value in the last 2 months, so obviously its getting balanced.

But the problem is needing 300 silk scraps needed where the other two ascended mats need only 150 hard leather sections or 100 mithril ore. Mithril you can mine or find along with silk and hard leather by salvaging level 80 blues and greens armor drops.

And since all ascended armor regardless of weight need Damask the shear amount of silk required by all ascended crafters is astronomical relative to hard leather or mithril.

A full set of each weight needs 25,500 silk scraps compared to 3,600 hard leather sections or 1,600 mithril. It’s no wonder.

Light: 368 gold
Medium: 283 gold
Heavy: 280 gold

1. Was it deliberate to have such a large disparity in crafting costs for Light armor compared to the other weights?

Would love to see this answered.

I guess they are slowly working on balancing the material market to match the original idea of the material requirements for ascended armor, instead of having to constantly rework crafting recipes to balance them cost wise.
Though this doesn’t seem to be working out so far

That’s easy, light armor needs the same base material for it’s class as oppose to leather or metal and follows the same stock formula as other armors. It’s just that Damask is so, so much more expensive than Elonian Leather or Deldrimor Steel. And that’s likely due to the difficulty in obtaining cloth mats Vs leather or metal mats.

It was probably at the time the recipes were created, those cost on paper was similar for those crafted mats and the market just took over. Damask is used in every armor weight and piece thus huge demand which drove up the price. That in itself isn’t the problem but the fact light requires 50% more because it’s the armor’s base material that is the problem.

But there’s at least symmetry (in the recipes). – Zathros

SO basically what anet wants to do is do free living story all the way up to the climax and then put the end behind a pay wall.

Brilliant.

That’s not really what happened, I think.

The Living Story pretty much failed. ArenaNet focused a lot on the China release but it was worse than expected. The number of players has been falling, they have made changes to their business model (selling Living World chapters) yet profit has not risen; in other words, the future doesn’t look bright for ArenaNet.

They probably decided to make an expansion simply because they have no idea what to do now. This is nearing a desperate move. And it remains to be seen how well planned and how well implemented the promised features for the expansion will be.

I’m sorry but the facts presented in the NCsoft earning reports trump your opinions. GW2 is making more money than ever. Yeah, the devs must be really desperate.

Now it remains to be seen of course how well the expansion sells, but from what I’ve seen it seems like a solid package.

Actually he has a point. The Royalties line, which GW2 China would be reported in (as well as any of their games being run by 3rd parties) was down for 3Q from 2Q by roughly $15 million. No idea which games, all games, 3rd party from China, 3rd party from Europe (for AION and Lineage 2), we just don’t know but it’s down a lot, like 40%. Then you have GW2 sales and cash shop from NA/EU. That was down 8% from the previous quarter, roughly $1.7 million.

So it’s impossible to say how well China GW2 is doing, just that 3rd party revenue is sharply down and GW2 in NA/EU income has weakened slightly. Still the last 4 quarters, GW2 had NA/EU income around $95 million.

What happened to me yesterday…
I crafted huntsman towards 500 by the creation of giver’s torches. I created around 15 of em and got there. Then I decided to throw them all in the mystic toilet. After 3 attempts, Rodgarths Flame popped up; not the most expensive one but still, a prec.
In told my guildmates (GotD) and received the gratz.

Then, i decided to test my luck and bought 23 shortbows..named ones (Droknar’s Shortbow). After few attempts I received…The Lover! Unbelief at my fellow guildies of course..not in the least with myself.
Then I threw in the remainder of my shortbows..last attempt..

Another The Lover

So 3 Precs in about 8 minutes !

Still cant believe it : But I sold both lovers and netted a nice heap of gold..
But it made me think..is it possible that prec drop rates are somehow connected to the fact that the expansion will provide precs? And/or that precs are dropping in price like mad bcause of that ?

P.S. I actually joined that guild JUST before I went to the MF…they hate me now.. XD

But here’s the thing, as the T1 price was falling, there was no need to lower the price of the T2. Expand your profit margin, not keep the profit the same by dropping the T2 price.

Maybe your 13k softwood is blocking someone’s sale…

No, it was over 10 or so days. I waited at least 2 hours after my previous batch (300-500) sold out before I put more up for sale. The 85 remaining was from my last batch of almost 500 I put up for sale.

I knew when I put it up that I wasn’t going to be processing anymore anytime soon as the price was in free fall and buyers knew it. So instead of taking anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to sell (include those that undercut my price by a copper or two) it took 5-6 hours to sell 85% of them. I was undercut by a copper or two almost immediately with posts of several thousand items.

I’m actually surprised I sold as much as I did.

Edit: And of course I was kidding about Wanze. Only mentioned him due to his “market manipulation” threads.

Yeah, any region logging is right off the city so that’ll be T1.

But here’s the thing, as the T1 price was falling, there was no need to lower the price of the T2. Expand your profit margin, not keep the profit the same by dropping the T2 price. But the “I want my money and I want it almost now” means undercutting, thinking that you will now be first, until 10 seconds later when you get undercut.

But the price of the T2 is dropping in steps, permanently (well it’s not returning at least to it’s previous price, yet) rather than a short dip, only a fool would try to get in on it even with estimated 3g and change per SP.

“What? I don’t want to pay cash for an expansion. Can I pay in gold?”

Honestly, a fine example of kitten if you do, kitten if you don’t.

They’ve stated it’s bigger than any of the current regions, the ones with multiple zones. They aren’t giving us a pocket zones like Dry Top or Silverwastes.

I guess I am the only one who didn’t want an expansion. I thought Living World was great and whatever features that came in was just bonus. I supported Anet through real money gem purchases….. Obviously buying virtual items on a gem shop doesn’t make profit for some reason.

I’m also one who didn’t NEED a paid expansion and I think LS2 is a nice compromise of telling a story but keeping it around for replay value. But I’m not a hard core player even though I had been playing 15 hrs a week. I just don’t play according to some g/hr metric but rather my own “am I having fun” metric.

But those who played GW since the beginning expected GW2 to proceed the same way, with an expansion within a year and when that didn’t happen, they didn’t take it well. The WoW players saw paid expansions as a fact of life every 2 years as a fact of MMOs in general (along with a level hike).

It was a case of “you use to do it, everyone else (meaning WoW) does it, why aren’t you doing it?”

Is GW2 going to get trashed like CoH?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Behellagh.1468

Guild Wars was my first real MMO, so of course I had to buy Guild Wars 2.. I’d only been waiting 5+ years. My issue is, I’m scared to play it. I’m scared to get into it. I don’t want to love a game (and I could really LOVE this game!) so NCSoft can just trash it like they CoH. I still love ANet but I do NOT trust NCSoft.

However, I noted that Guild Wars is still running.. no content updates (as far as I know) but it’s not been shut down. Did ANet make sure that won’t happen?

My friends and I were all CoH players.. we won’t touch anything having to do with NCSoft except the Guild Wars games.. can someone.. re-assure me? =/

GW2 had nearly twice the income that CoH had over an entire year. GW2 will be here for a long time but it won’t ever elicit the same feelings I had for CoH. While I enjoy GW2, I do not love it with the same passion I had with CoH.

NCSOFT isn’t the MMO killer as some have portrayed. CoH was the only questionable closure and more the baby thrown out with the bathwater when they decided to close Paragon Studios. The other western created MMOs never made significant money between launch and shutdown other than GW and CoH, and lack of a follow up game to CoH that could appeal to both sides of the Pacific doomed Paragon Studios and in turn CoH.

I don’t care what the projected profit is, if nobody is buying due to all the undercutting, nobody is making the projected profit. In the last 24hrs the price is off another 1/2 silver.

Honestly this is as silly as when players were bidding up green wood logs while undercutting soft wood planks. Surprise, whatever site that said this was good money, it’s not anymore.

But remember you can only get one precursor of each weapon type per account via collections. If you want another Greatsword, back to RNG drops and the MF.

majority use legendaries for their looks, not their stats, meaning that your average player will either juggle one weapon trough alts or will transmute the skin onto something not as legendary.

A very small percentage of people actually feel the need to have legendaries so that they could switch stats on the go and I don’t know how often these people actually alt.

So yes, it’s one per account per precursor, but that should more than satisfy the majority of the population

But they are coming out with additional precursors which I would imagine be paired with additional legendaries for each weapon type.

But too many MMO players have been conditioned by WoW and WoW clones to expect an ever increasing level and BIS gear grind with expansions. KB! KB! Capitalization counts when talking throughput. Lower case is kilobits, uppercase is KiloBytes.

That said when I patched the game last night at my parents, who have a 25mb/s connection, the download went in spurts. Goes to 2+MB/s for a couple of seconds, drops off to 0, delay, then some number of files are patched, spurts again, delay, more files are patched, rinse and repeat. This included Tuesday’s main patch.

At home I have a much slower connection and I have no spurting, just 300KB/s for two to three minutes for the patch patch and 20-30 minutes for Tuesday’s.

So, I’m just curious about this:

A friend just bought the game (like a week ago) knowing that it was a “one time pay” game. With the expansion coming soon (something I was really excited with) this unpleasent though comes to me… the thought that I’ll have to say to my friend “I’m sry dude, it’s not a pay and play game anymore, you’ll have to pay once more, and any other time they decide to update the game and call an expansion”.

Thou, I’m not familiar with the game also, nor I watched the stream about the expansion. I just play casualy, and so I’m guessing that:
1) you can’t play the game as it is after the expansion (some games have their expansion separately, which isn’t the case here, right?)
2) there’s no ganrantee that the game will remain free after paying for this expansion, cuz they could release some future paid expansion and so on.

I appologize again, I read only some bits of info here and there, and also pretty much only the GM replies to this thread.

Thx for your time \o

Honestly you know that this is the 1st one in nearly 3 years. They’ve already stated that the expansion is optional. The existing game doesn’t break if you don’t have the expansion. They’ve already said that there will still be LS updates.

in Players Helping Players

Behellagh.1468

The usual way is by using the Mystic Forge by the use of the items sold by the attendant for SP, along with items or standard crafting mats to either promote lower tier mats into higher tier or craft mystic weapons.

The profits (or losses) doing this is constantly changing and you will need to use a site that tracks which items are currently the most profitable to make. Sadly the one I had been using seems broken at the moment.

I’m sure someone will be by, maybe, to share but that’s part of the reason things stop being profitable. Too many try to produce the “most profitable” at the moment, start overcutting raw mat prices while undercutting result prices and the profit is squeezed out and that niche is gone until prices return to profitable levels. It sort of reduces the motivation to share.

But everyone has been jumping on that lately and there really isn’t anything that I feel is worth the risk and there is risk. I had been converting Tier 1 processed mats into Tier 2, 5 stacks of 250 which would cost 1SP is MF mats. My results at 5 stacks at a time is between 295 and 674 and I consider average would be 417. Needless to say I had a significant loss at 295 and a huge profit at 674. And I was factoring a cushion needing only 370 or so to break even and I still lost money about 20% of the time.

Unless you go nuts mat gathering it’s also an issue of needing to have money to make money. For those five stacks I would have to spend 20-25g in the hopes of a 10-15% profit on average. And as I said, there are market forces and psychology that prevents scaling a 3-5g profit up to 30-50g.

It still bugs me that the basic infrastructure hasn’t been restored to a usable condition. 100% fixed bridges, leveled roadways, Char or Asura defenses set up, mostly destroyed structure torn down, debris moved and consolidated.

Since MMOs mainly relie on one core should I just look for a Dual Core set up to save money?

It doesn’t use one core, it’s limited by the performance of a single core. There’s a difference. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot of cores if each core is slow, your performance won’t be a good as someone with fewer cores but are twice as fast.

You use to get laurels from doing 5 dailies. Now you get them by logging in. The amount is a bit back end loaded but if you take laurels as your 28th bonus chest you end up with more that than previous system.

Divinity’s Reach at the normal TP. I have a pass but since I will have to double click on it anyways to get in … I rather be at a TP rep to pick up, place orders and if I’m buying rares to salvage, I don’t need to be at the Terrace.

Now promoting mats …

Assuming the new region is level 80 only, it will keep players in the original game until they max out.

Will Anet ever go for dx11/12?

its not just a bolt on, its a complete rewrite for it to work

well. Some games have minimal Dx11 support just to say they have it. Doesn’t really improve either performance or look but is used as a marketing ploy. We wouldn’t want a half hearted attempt.

I can’t think of anything I could not do in masterwork greens that I can in exotics. Fractals requiring agony resist are obviously their own animal, but I’d bet many nickels on that I could go clear dungeons in zerker greens just about as well as I do in my ascended zerker. Sure, there’d be an output reduction, but it wouldn’t have any impact what do ever on my traits, my sigils or my runes.

Challenge accepted. I’ve found my fun new thing to do for the evening – see what the difference feels like between greens and ascended.

You can run dungeons in WoW in all white twill doesn’t make it effective or the slightest bit rewarding nor does it invalid the fact that max level gear was supposed to stop at Exotic at launch.

No matter what current method chosen, it is still light years away from your very comment that by level 80, players should have the best statistical loot in the game.

Yeah to be clear on that one, as we’ve said before: we made that statement before the game launched, ultimately realized we didn’t think it was the right decision for Gw2 – and changed our mind. I fully own making this statement, the day I said it was our plan – our lead designer decided it was the wrong direction for the game after we stated it, and we changed direction.

Sometimes plans will change, I can assure you it’s never our intention to intentionally mislead/trick anyone, that’s simply the nature of development: from time to time things we say at one point later have to change.

From what I interpreted from the anouncement.

No. It’s like EotM.
No. Optional map is optional.
No, since the halls will physically be in the new region.
Sort of but not really. Mastery points can be earned in the existing regions, but only usable by those with the expansion.

Is Anet being too secretive?

Is a bear Catholic? Wait that’s not right …

They listed the major changes exclusive to the expansion. Colin has also stepped up and said Traitgate is redesigned and I hope that means across the whole game. Who knows, we may see it before the expansion.

STOP LAUGHING.

But to generate free buzz on all the MMO sites, rather than advertising sooner than later, we’ll get a dog and not mounts presentation that will be dragged out over months. Got to stoke the fires of the hype train (with the bodies of corrupted Sylvari). It’s not going to be as entertaining as the updates when WildStar was near release but if it’s anything like what we’ve seen with the two feature packs, it’ll generate more questions than it answers which at the very least will keep everyone talking about it.

And in the end, that’s the point.
