Most of the issues I see in this thread are not problems with traits and skills but more with the people using them. Yes there are genuine problems, Orb of Wrath being at the top of my list but you are throwing in anything that doesn’t fit with your current meta and asking Anet to make it into something that does. Yes Litany of Wrath has a Low base heal but if you plan your burst according you can be full healed. Every. Single. Time. I guess it just takes more skill then Shelter and you are afraid of actually putting in effort.
Same with Spirit weapons. Are they Viable? Possibly. Do you care? I guess not you just want them gone because you want a shiny new mechanic.. I guess I dont like shouts can we replace them with 4 s of Godmode on a 2s CD?
Inner Fire never ever specifically said that it will proc if it “looks” like you are fire only if you aare so yes ZF and firefields could proc it but you would have to have them give self- burning too.. Actually not a horrible Idea as it increases damage to Smite Condition and Purging flames will reduce the length of the burn anyway.
Im sure there are a lot of Viable things on Guardian that no one really uses I KNOW for sure of a condi build that is definitely viable that is not used much. So Perhaps if you jumped off the meta train and thought about making up your own stuff, finding out how things work before boarding again. At the very least you will find out different aspects of your own bloody class instead of just knowing how to hit things with a GS.
Also if the devs were to get rid of every trait that someone has a kitten about there wouldn’t be many left
6s of revealed on a 32s CD? thats max btw most rangers would run it on a 40s CD because no one really traits into shout master, if they did they dont worry about the Pew Pew they dont have a Longbow..
If you are squishy enough to be killed in that 6s then you are zerker enough to kill the ranger basically in one shot when the 6s are over. But a thief can’t evade damage for 6s! Heaven forbid.
Lets take Meta.. if you are s/d just spam sword 3, shadowstep to him with sword 2, even better if you have basilisk venom up.. D/p BP works, Daggerstorm on both if you run it over venom. you hsould not have any problems evading a ranger for 6s

Rule 21 (For rangers). Longbows do the most damage when Pew Pewing directly into a downed characters face, and weapon swaps should only be considered if your second weapon is also a longbow
I don’t think that we will see any changes on the shield front until HoT. I also hope/believe that at that time it might be buffed with one of the new conditions or boons..

Spirit Weapons are very Viable and is very well balanced as a utility style. You have Conditions, good Damage, Crowd control, Healing, Condition Cleanse, Stun Break, Aegis, Vuln, Projectile defense. Yes you might get better in one of those categories in a different build with different utilities but you can’t buff them all. The only real issue with spirits is not losing them quickly (so not really a team fight build) Decent in anything up to a 3v3. and the fact that you HAVE to know what to do when you don’t have them up, Enough sustain to last until you can summon them again.
Also the fun thing with the current meta is that no one runs them which means no one has a kitten clue how to fight them. Personally I like Killing Necro’s with it
Whats wrong with Shield? people complain because it doesnt actually give you a block but why do you need block? it has Protection , a bubble(admittidly not the best) and some ish damage.. It is more based on shielding your group as a whole and not just your own selfish self..(take that you focus users) and Because it has the ability to protect 5 + people instead of just one yes it does not get as much respect because all most people care about is selfish personal damage and not helping the group as a whole.
Which is probably the most dumb thing ever.. I’m sure your OP meta zerker build can do the same amount as the 4 other people you just let die because “helping” others is just not effective
Wow.. not liking my thoughts.. pity I’m not a troll it Could have gone well. Mostly I like that is is stuck on a target because it allows us keep on top of someone.. Personally I run JI and FB on sword and have no trouble staying on top of most enemy’s. add a GS # 3 in there if you still want.. BB is another thing to keep them in, same with hammer or scepter for immob’s. And It wasn’t really the mentality of going into a fight and dying because you can’t get out it’s more of a thing you are a GUARDIAN! You wanna mess people up then you GET IN THEIR FACE you dont tele away from them.. they think they fine then they get a you in their face with a Greatswod and now they thinking about runing away. You did your job. It also works well with Banish, Mighty blow, WW…one of the best openers in the game imho

Weapons – Shortbow
Axe With Torch offhand or dagger offhand
If you want melee you can run a sword with dagger or torch offhand
An axe set and shortbow are interchangeable they have the same range but more of a single target vs multi target thing going on.
Looks decent trait wise i run almost the same thing as a Rampager build. I did notice you are using Predator’s Onslaught. I use it too and I run Sword/horn and Axe/dagger. swap torch for horn sometimes. I would go frost trap over spike trap for the extra chill if you need it, I dont think the cripple from spike lasts as long, Spike Trap is a one hit wonder, frost trap re-applies, I also use flame trap over Viper trap for #1 Reduced CD and #2 the fire field for my horn Blast. Also if you run a sword it is perma cripple from the Auto Attack which goes perfectly with Pred’s Onslaught.
I think that the mobility of this is fine. It requires a target yes but it is still a 1200 gap closer. It also fits with the guardian mentality. Get into the Fight quick but stay to the end. Guards don’t run away they kill things. If you want a run away skill go play a thief, or a mesmer or an ele. A guardian does not need anything to run away. Example. Our shout retreat is always wrong and as such has had a lot of people complain about it.
I have tested this and found that Quickness dramatically affects how this skill works. If you pop QZ then spam 1 with no target and another ranger does RF at you Also with QZ then you will block 90% of the arrows IF NOT all. As far as i can tell the 20% has more to do with how often your swinging sword is in a position to block an arrow and less to do with passive proc. For instance all the times I blocked an arrow the Sword hit it directly in front of me so the more you can maximize attack rate the better this skill gets. Related to that if someone is shooting you in melee then your chances of blocking his arrows/projectiles drastically reduces, to the point where I hardly got a proc.
This skill is interesting however as has been said above it’s niche is very small and not good enough for a 6 pt investment.
That is true Stone Signet and LR will drastically reduce your damage. However much as people moving towards zerk gear have knights gear until they are comfortable with their squishiness, Signet of stone allows you to save yourself from screw ups until you have mastered the sword
A ranger shouldn’t have to worry about condi cleanse with so many options. Also its not enough so if you were running any half serious build then you would have SotF or EB. Also Autocleanse Poison on dodge??? that means all you have to do it dodge before your healing and you are set. Probably the best condition. It also means that if you are blinded then your actual condi cleanse wont waste itself on a blind if you have it. Seems decent to me
Using Sword you have to be better at anticipating. Yes you are locked out of dodge but the chain is not that long. After the second leap you can move perfectly well. I practiced on CoE vs Alpha. the trick is NOT to turn off autoattack. just learn when your chain ends and move then. also if you are Really really stuck in the middle just #3 or dagger offhand or LR out of it. Really Really Desperate people could pop Signet of stone.
Also as a side note if you end your chain on a leap and swap target you can clear have a room before the AA defaults back to the 1st auto. Really fun to chase people with.
TBH the MOST problems I have with sword is to not #2 myself off the edge of a cliff
Soo.. Umm Rytlock Never was A Warrior. Heavy Armour Yes. Sword Yes. Pistol Yes… Wait A minute!!. Warriors don’t use pistol. Rytlock’s “class” was always ambiguous since he didnt quite fit. So pefect for the new one obviously

1. Same Deal. Quick Target so he pops stealth to lose it. and Pray
2. I feel decent my ranger is pretty good with condi clear and stun break
3+ 5. Axe Autoattack. I love any skill that can let me kill the clones while still focusing DPS onto the mesmer. GS #2 is also good to 1 shot them. Keep track of the real mesmer and make sure you dont forget the clones
4. Obviously Longbow ranger if they can keep the focus on you and stay ranged for long enough. I havent played trapper ranger but I imagine they are decent vs Mesmers. Especially since when I played My mes the condis owned me as well. I run Cele Axe/dagger and sword/ horn. That being said I also havent duelled a mes in a long time without being ganked at the end by their team.
5. Mesmer is better against New players and or people who havent played mes much. As I have you need to remember how long their stealth is and that only the real deal can use anything other then 1 and that real people run sideways.
P.S Assuming you will collect all your replies together I put down some different Ideas from my guard reply.. Best of luck in figuring out hard counters to the things we say can beat you.
1. Oh Kitten! It’s a Mesmer NOOOOO, Quick target him/her!
2. Contrary to Above view I keep my odds equal till I hit the mes a few times. If I can’t really do anything in the first few hits I feel pretty bad about it. If the mes doesn’t move or takes a burst then good
. BTW Illusionary Duelist is targeted over you
3. My strategy is to take down the clones first to make sure I can always find the mesmer. I dont focus them just run towards a group and spam my Smite Condition and purging flames which is normally enough to clear them. Then I can know who the real mesmer is and keep on top with immob on scepter and my teleports.
4. I dont really run meta, but I am decent against mes. A bunker mes can use staff fairly effectively to keep down clones but will probably lose to to lack or damage and or condi clear eventually. A medi guard would have a fairly equal odds if they can pop there blinds before there burst
5. Smite Condition, Purging flames to clear Clones. Zealots defense it they kite me, Flashing blade and Judges Intervention to stick on them and Chains of light for immob.
6. 1 will have me trying not to die as hard as possible, 2 + mesmers make me run and cry, and if thier whole team is mesmers then I switch to thief and stealth the whole game to avoid them
I’m Trying to break the ranger meta by chasing down every Longbow ranger I find regardless of points or what trap I’m running into. I mostly Succeed.

Also I have tryed to get away from people by chaining the #2 sword attacks (evade back, turn, Leap forward) but i forgot to un target so i just was leaping around for a few seconds till I died
Seems Pretty Good. I agree with Using Lightning Reflexes, As i see it, Sic Em is there for Anti thief, however you are in a line for traiting LR for Reduced CD and as it is an immob break it is VERY helpful
Maybe you already you knew this. Regardless, I wanted to point this out, specially with the new buffs to torch(whether or not they helped is Debatable).
#1. Cleansing Flame IS a 600 range attack however if you use it in melee then it will auto track if you stop moving. ie they run in a circle around you and you will spin, keeping them in front of you
- Zealots Flame can be used during the channel of Cleansing Flame. I try to pop it about Halfway through the channel. Then, if they stay melee I can just leave it on until it expires but if they disengage then I can throw it at them after the channel of Cleansing Flame. Very Good Burst, and somewhat trolling if they start to wonder why #5 is doing that Burning!

I just switched to LR and signet of renewal, realized that condis were destroying me although I did know I needed more of that..
if Sigil of Ice procs on Maul then it will chill everyone hit by maul
it is more power based then Condition based and for Predators Onslaught I rely on Sword Cripple more so then chills. the chill is more for the damage boost from Ice runes and then the rest of it. My Sword Autos will crit anywhere between 900 and 1k damage and with Rampage as one or Signet of the wild active can get up to 1.4k. I am aware that certain classes do have counters vs chill but in all honestly they dont really last long enough with my damage
Predators Onslaught- Increased Damage for yourself and your pet when opponent is crippled chilled or immobilized
Superior Rune of the Ice – +7% Damage against Chilled Foes
Lets say we go 6/6/2/0/0. now we have
Steady Focus- 10% extra damage while full endurance. We have Natural Vigor which involves 25% increased endurance regen and we can trait for vigor on heal and upon being crit hit. If we run anything with a sword or a dagger we have weapon evades that involve not dodging.
+10% damage from flanking from the Skirmishing Grandmaster Minor trait
With Traps, Pets , Sigil of Ice, some condition duration, and Axe #3 Perma chill can be a thing, very easily, Also Ice Combo field for leap or Blast finishers from horn, sword, GS, Projectile from dagger or Axe.
So with all this extra damage from chill and the bonuses from chilling people is this not viable? and is so is no one using it?

Recently been using this in PvP. My response to the Turret Engi’s and Longbow Rangers and other Meta builds that actually work because of Conquest.
Basically its your standard Medi or Shout build but utilizing a hammer and Sword/ shield. Personally I like the Medi version better because I like dps Guards but if you dont like the squishyness you can use it with shouts. Your Job is to get to a point and get everyone off the enemy off the point using Shield # 5 and Hammer # 3.4. and 5. You can solo reasonably well with hammer and sheild just keep them KBed or immobilized. Using this you should be able to turn a full opponent cap into a full cap for you even fighting on the point.
Sheild #5 only is a Knockback when you hit it so after you use it spam it for the heal. NEVER keep it up for the full duration unless a ranger is trying to range you. that and Sword #3 should keep you safe from range.
The bubble on Sheild 5 is also excellent for downed players either to stop enemy’s from ressing or Knocking back stompers so you can res
Mighty Blow hits like a truck Don’t miss it.
Judge’s Intervention and Banish go together perfectly for a 1200 range launch no one sees coming
Normally start Sword sheild after your KB go to hammer keep them controlled with ring of warding and banish
If you are some l2p troll or want to bash shield because you think it sucks do yourself a favour and take a long walk off a short pier and hug an octopus. i find this build useful whether or not you like it is up to you put if you dont like it dont use it dont troll the comments.

I do not believe that the ICD of the Keen edge trait is affected by the CD reduction Trait but it does give fury and condi cleanse when activated
I think shouts and meditations are both good depending on the role you want to play. Ive played Support Staff Zerg Frontline and shouts have never failed me. Solo Meditations are much better but both have their niches
New Elite Skill- Completely OP. Traited into a shout support build they are already quite good. A complete reset of them right after you use them, especially Save yourself is ridiculous.
Hold the line’s CD could be a bit shorter but if you are goinf full shouts then with virtues you should have almost perma regen anyway and perma protection is also possible if you run hammer.
Agree completely with the Retreat name change
New Heal skill will mean a new one for every class. Healing Breeze is an option is you want group heal and virtues effect group for regen and protection
Hammer #5 + #2 is area retaliation
Hammer Auto attack + #2 is Retaliation
3 in virtues. Retal on activation of all virtues.

Sheild definitely needs a revamp. Like the daze on shield #4 but any CC on it would be nice like a knockdown or such . Also agree with Shield #5 needs something to benefit from actually keeping up the dome. IM not sure we need more stability but regen would be nice. Or the longer the sheild is up the more the heal is. As it is the only thing you might use it for is a KB. The dome absorbs projectiles but gives absolutely no bonus for melee yet the #4 skill is for melee. Maybe A blind if an enemy is in the dome

Guardian is all about Group support. There is no “Holy Trinity” in this game, tank, healer and DPS instead everyone more or less is responsible for their own survival with there own healing skill and utilities. What a Guardian does is increase everyone’s ability to survive on their own with Group heals and Boons. You will never tank in GW2 so instead you increase your groups abilities to tank themselves until the aggro switches
No Base pet Chill for the Wolf Chilling Howl is 3s
Commanding Voice- Tooltip does not change but the CD on F2 skills does go down
Malicious Training- Is it working at all?? Using Wolf Chilling Howl Nothing I can do will get the Chill COndition more then 3 seconds which is the base even with Chill duration Sigil Ice runes and 6 in Marksmanship. It should be more then 3s???
Any ranger running a LB in WvW better be zerk. Therefore they should be almost as squishy as you. Sic Em should only reveal you if you are not in stealth. obviously you cant run around stealthed but if you can get into stealth they can’t use it until they see you for a split second. Revealed is 6s yes… you cant survive for 6s, can’t kite and LOS a ranger for that long? and then Sic Em is on at least a 32s CD probably 40s if not traited meaning survive the 6s (provided he hit you with it) and you’ll have lots of time to stick and dagger in his back. that’ll probably 1 shot him. depends. Still need to watch for stone signet but you now have like 8 ways to Stealth again he has ONE reveal on you on a longish CD…good luck
Note to the 5 pet thing Rangers can have up to 7 pets

I don’t see this being a problem. If you trait for tricks its down to 48s for 6 initiative or you can trait for initiative with Heal and use withdraw. use both or neither. or one. personnaly withdraw is better with the trait since 4 per 15s and shadowstep

Why:
1. Because it’s annoying that I can’t roll a thief and not play it the way i want. ie not with Stealth. Currently however Stealth is too OP for any other builds to really be viable and if you play a thief without Stealth goodluck getting anywhere with it. I mean maybe S/D SB builds but even they rely on SR and CnD
2. Because of fight reset. you can solo a thief and if he is dying or gets bored he can just pop SR or anyone of hundreds of other stealth combos, wait 3s in it and restart with full HP and All CD’s. Meanwhile Wwe are still in combat maybe with some condi’s still on us for the thief to comeback to and toy with at his pleasure
Suggestion: Rduce # of ways to get into stealth. Currently there are 2 reveal skills, rnager has 1 and Engi has 1 both with longish CD’s 30ish seconds. On any thief build there are as many as I dunno 10 ways of getting into stealth a few of them spammable (yes im looking at you Blackpowder heartseeker). Therefore to balance stealth either we need more reveals or less ways to get into stealth. BTW Revelas are 6s long. I believe that stealth should be something that only becomes super OP when you have to trait heavily into it while sacrificing other things like dmg or surviveabilty. Currently you can trait like 4 deep and have stealth reset fights for you. I dont think this is fair. Now im just waiting for people to tell me to L2P. bows Thank you!

This game is all High risk High reward. ZD is High risk low to none reward. at the very least can we move while casting it?? it doesnt even track, just goes straight. I dont see how Anet thinks that is is good to put a self root skill on a weapon set that relies on movement to survive
Im actually a fan of warrior bunker builds. Pity most of the player base is so stuck up on their zerk cloud they never try anything else but imho if your running groups I would say it is better support then a guardian. I feel that this builds ability to keep 4 zerkers alive and killing means that the dmg output of this build is WAY more then if you run 5 zerk and then all… die…in 1v1s is one of the best troll builds I know due to ridiculous amounts of sustain and condi clear if you make sure you run a LB so you can’t be kited as easily
I’m ALL for Griffons and Rock dogs.. Sometimes Im sad that we have no like “war” pets. I mean drakehound vs Rock dog and Griffon vs Hawk…cmon.. Also probably impossible but I would be hyped to see some sort of zerg pet that could actually survive multiple Evil Red Circles
- - The Sword – For me sword is life. Good AA and the #2 skill is awesome with the teleport and the blind…. so what exactly happened to the #3???? It,s the “Burst skill” on the sword but unless they stand still in front of your nose… well good luck getting it to hit.. also it ROOTS you.. which if your running a medi build is not something you want…EVER I mean maybe if you had to stand still to land a huge burst but Sword 3 is unreliable at best. So like.. Pls change it Anet? I know that wont happen dont crush my dreams I’m an optimist
- - The Scepter – Personally I like the Weapon it has good dmg, Smite is on a Short CD and yeah its a small AoE but you have the nice immob to go with it. Only thing holding it back is the AA. I mean why Advertise as 1200 when your enemy can have a seizure at that range and not be hit at all??? Great range weapons for us guys…SO happy we have that..

OK Ive been Going over Heals. Most Classes Have 2 or more Heal skills that benefits from being Traited
i.e Signets, then a Meditation for gaurd, Venom for thieves etc
So Where is Rangers?? Oh We have a Buff-able Healing Spirit! That we use for…Parties? PvE? laughs? Having more minions then a necro? Oh there that one.
So Can we Get one more??? I was thinking maybe Make Troll Unguent a Survival Skill, Or HaO either or. Healing Spring is in a good place. We don’t Talk a bout Spirit But there is no real other heal. Nothing worth it its Healing Spring or Nothing for Most rangers. Also It would totally fit. Being that its like a healing Salve rangers might Carry.. for survival.. Just a thought
