For ascended ..
- a full set of armor gives around 1% more damage and 5% more defense at 80, no better defense unter 80.
- a weapon gives 5% at level 80 but only 0,5% at every content under level 80
Reason is that the higher weapon strenght and defense is only valid at level 80
but as soon as your mentored down those stats are the same than exotic.
Only ascended trinkets give you the full benifit at all levels, since they only have
stats, thats also maybe 5%
So max you will maybe have 11% from a full set ascended at 80 and 6,5% under 80.
However armor is the most expensive and give also the smallest bonus.

What do I expect from an mmo game to drop? Well to take it’s predecessor you could actually get the best looking weapons to drop in the game…,omg yes without the insane path of crafting you could get all the weapons you wanted by doing exactly what you like. Kill stuff.
INstead of oh let me go to that node for the 10000th time, oh and chop some wood on the way.
Farming nodes and ores has always been ineffective and a waste of time in this game, you can finish dungeon runs much faster and purchase the resources needed for your armour from the TP (no, never buy instantly).
The amount of g/hour you make buy gathering nodes/ores < the amount of g/hour you make by killing stuff in dungeons
The more people that believe that, the better it is i think.

Goodbye to mount threads for the most part.
Hello to “I just came back and still don’t like the game” threads.
Because, you can’t just log in and not like the game, you have to come to the forums to tell us all about it.
What about “Back after a year .. and still no mounts” threads ?

Never had to do dungeon to craft my acended armor or weapons. It just take time because of time gated recipe.
How did you max your crafting then? I saw a screenshot from back in the day and saw that T6 materials were going for coppers. These days they go for tens of silvers. There’s no way to get all those mats without farming dungeons.
I have good news for you : those mats also drop outside of dungeons.
Since i played GW2 i have farmed maybe 20-25k gold in total, and i only have been
2 times in a dungeon.

- many players are fed up with the direction most of the industry takes (following metrics instead of experience and inspiration, ingameshops, . . .)
- transparency and open communication are the way to go (CSE wanted to be Alpha already in Summer, didn´t hurt them to be late)Most companies are way more transparent and open before they release their games…
Yepp .. because at that time they don’t have to handle with all those kittens in the
forums and most beta players are interestet in the new game because its new and
they are not already bored to death and have to post that every 5 minutes.

I am a bit bewildered as to why you’re doing stuff in game that you detest and loathe? Why not play the parts of the game that you enjoy? smh….
Because Anet in their decimated wisdom have decided to pander to the Gods of Gaming Metrics, and one of those metrics must be “Participation in Newly Released Content”.
In order to game their own metrics Anet has built map specific currencies and map specific vendors for sort-of-interesting skins and more recently sort-of-interesting stat combinations that you just can’t get anywhere else.
Detest and Loathe, but Hold Your Nose. Oh, and? Play the Game How You Want to.
Wasn’t it more that they again listened to “the community” that always praises
the good old days of GW1 where thy farmed one specific zone for 8 years just
because of a random drop ?
The same as the new way to aquire traits because it was so great to hunt skills in GW1.
I wait for the day they remove jumping because it was so great in GW1 not to jump.
People had fun in GW1 for 8 years because there was no jumping.

And if I want to farm a t2 mat, i farm t2 mobs, if i want a tier 3 mat, i farm t3 mobs and not t2. Why should a t2 mob drop t3 mats? In case of lower tier mobs/mats, mf only needs to influence the droprate of mats, not the tiers.
So what exactly does MF then do to crafting mats when you farm T2 or T3 mobs ?
For equipment MF works all the time no matter what mobs you kill and for mats
just on 74+ mobs ? Sorry .. but that would be a stupid design in my eyes.It increases the chance of a crafting mat to drop at all.
No this is totally new for me. I’ve always read that MF does NOT increase any
dropchances, just the rarity of dropped items.
Any source for that information ?
The only thing i see here from the wiki are the loadstones and trophys, but they
normally drop so random that i really can’t say anything about that from my
personal experience.
Magic Find is both an account bonus and a character attribute that increases the chance to receive higher-quality loot from slain foes. With a couple exceptions, it does not affect containers (including champion loot bags), chests, or any other source of loot
“Everytime [sic] you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.”

Ignorant people say that same hogwash about ele. They think you need to be constantly switching attunements and mashing all your skills off cooldown, when in fact you lose damage when you do that (as staff anyway)
Oh yeah .. always love when people think that as ele you have 20 skills with one weapon
while in the end you do nearly no damage when leaving fire until you can switch back.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
On many weapon sets the 1 skill is actually the highest dps on the weapon, the other skills are for mobility, utility, and extra effects like conditions.
Still some people can’t stop to insult people as #1 spammers to show that they are
soooo much better players .. which maybe let people think they are also better if they just spam everything they have.
Another problem is maybe that we can’t change the position of the skills on the skillbar. In other games i would maybe put the knockback as a situational skill as far right as possible.
But as a level 80 ranger people should really have learned to avoid the #3
and that only 1,2,5 makes sense most of the time with longbow.
However that so much people simply stil haven’t learned that shows maybe why ANet gave us something like the NPE.

I visit the crafting subforum and this subforum on a daily basis. I visit the general forum every now and then. I have to concur with Ensign in that this subforum has more posts with substance than the other subforums and that’s what kept me a regular lurker here.
I’d prefer to have the BLTC forum stay as a separate subforum.
Merge crafting and BLTC into one unique forum would also a better idea in my eyes, since
a lot of the economy in GW2 is based basically on crafting mats.

Just harvest herbs around Fort Trinity for 3-4 hours and harvest all the mithril there,

Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks during video games.12 The most common usage is in the context of MMORPGs like Realm of the Mad God, Tibia, or Lineage 3 in which it is often necessary for a character to repeatedly kill AI-controlled monsters, using basically the same strategy over and over again to advance their character level to be able to access newer content.
I think you mean Lineage 2 ^^
But yeah .. that was my first MMO .. and who ever played that game in the release version or at least before the F2P changes, knows what “grind” really means.
Staying at the same spot for 10 hours killing mobs to get 1-2% of exp .. that is grind.
What people call grind here should maybe also better be named as “farming” since
its in the end more optional to earn more wealth, but it isn’t something you have
to do just to get to max level and get the best gear.
And the little differnce that ascended makes, especially if you play content under
level 80, is really not compareable to the difference that raid-gear in other MMOs
make compared to crafted armor there.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
So you prefer a game where you get everything as soon as you login, then you
find out that there is nothing more to do, and you delete the game ?Why do people keep saying this when I’ve never said it?
Because it seems you don’t like to play a littler longer to get stuff but you also
seem to believe that you MUST have everything NOW and so are forced to grind.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Grinding is a player mindset more than anything but at least in GW2 it’s not the focus of the game.
Consider: The wardrobe was a big deal when it was put in.
Your rewards for doing dungeons are special skins. Your rewards for doing fractals are special skins. Your rewards for doing PvP are skins. Your rewards for completing the new content are skins. Your rewards for doing seasonal events, like Halloween, Christmas, and SAB, for example, are skins. Your rewards for doing WvW are nothing, unless it’s a tournament time, in which case you get, that’s right, skins.
So what is the focus of the game if not getting skins?
And how do you get the rarer skins, like legendaries, ascended, and things like Infinite Light without grinding, short of gem -> gold transfers?
So you prefer a game where you get everything as soon as you login, then you
find out that there is nothing more to do, and you delete the game ?
Of course the focus is to collect skins for some players .. but you don’t need really
to have the most expensive skins NOW to play the content. A pearl greatsword
does its job as good as twilight.
The skins are just a goal you can set for your own motivation .. however if you
hate the grind then stop it. There is nobody standing with a pistol in your back
that says : you must have twilight tomorrow.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
There in NOTHING in this game that requires a Legendary. In other games, you must gear up in T1 raiding (which is a grind) to even get to see the next tier.
Legendary isn’t a gear treadmill. You are not required to have a legendary to do anything in the game, but in a raid game you need the previous tier raid gear to progress to the next.
Like I said, which you both quoted and ignored, raid gear is only necessary if one cares about raiding, just as agony infusions are only necessary if one cares about fractals and Legendaries are only necessary if one cares about getting shinies.
One of the biggest lies that raiders always use. Ok .. it is not necessary but it makes
you much stronger and so you can do other content faster and earn more gold
or whatever.
Its much like Pay2Win where you get the best available stats via real money.
If you not pay / raid you simply are a much worse player because your stats suck.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
You don’t need a legendary or asended stuff or expensive
skins to play any of the content. You don’t need ascended gear to do the fractals?
AFAIK you don’t need any ascended items for lowest level fractals .. a friend recently
played them even with a level 2 character.
And higher fractal levels are not different content in my eyes. So you can experience
all content without ascended.
Also ascended and fractals were in the end only implemented for people who NEED
those kind of grind .. i never played them at all.

To me, the “grind” part of GW2 is pretty much all optional.
Thats the part people simple don’t understand. You can simply stop playing if you
have done everything. You don’t need a legendary or asended stuff or expensive
skins to play any of the content.
In other games you have to grind through all the raid tiers if you want to see all
the content because without the gear of T1 you can’t do T2 and without T2 you
can’t do T3 .. and so on ..
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
After elves then what? Anime cat women with boobs?
Elves needs first of course a horse … and then a cape ^^
Then they like to punch others in the face .. so Duelz .. and those elven thieves like
to stab others in the back .. so we need open PvP.
Gandalf could solo the Balrog .. elven however need a raid for that.

We all know about those “big” things that came in the past. Nothing but hype. Usually it involves fixing tooltips and some tiny content update.
So the background project and where is Anet with their ~300 employees? Obviously they are not doing anything on GW2, because what we see is not a work from 300 people.
Most of the team has been deployed to Wildstar. Both studios, Carbine and Anet are owned by NCSoft. And WS was so bad at launch, needed lots of work. And now they fired 60 people from Carbine. Things just connect.
It’s very likely there’s no expansion, just trying to hold the leaving players as long as possible, to milk what they can. If there’s XP, don’t get your hopes, it won’t be anything Big™
Here are some fresh news from Korea – NCSoft has lost the trust of the players there. So I’d expect Q1-Q2 2015 significant drop in revenues there.Anet and Carbine are both owned by NCSoft but they’re still separate companies. NCSoft can’t move staff between them like that. (Which is not to say individual people can’t move from one company to the other, but it would be a case of leaving one job and applying for, and getting, another. Not simply being told "this week you’re working for this company.)
Sure they are separate companies, but with the same owner… And yes, they can. I didn’t say they just move them “like that” though. Of course there are contracts etc. And the work probably is remote, because the studios are in different states of U.S. Maybe some people even moved to California even. You will be asked nicely if you would like to transfer onto other project. You can say no and get fired.
But so far from what I’ve seen I’m convinced Anet is doing work for Wildstar.
Not going to believe all those people just sit all day, getting paid do nothing. And haven’t seen any real indications that something indeed big is coming up.
Why should NCSoft fire staff from Carabine just to move ANet staff there ? That
makes no sense at all since those Carbine staff members already know the game
while ANet members have to learn everything first.

I do think an MMO’s start can be indicative of its success, or rather lack thereof. A bad start can kill an MMO. This is especially true in the WoW emulation era. Many MMO’s have launched with grand expectations and fallen flat on their faces. Some have salvaged a fraction of their aspirations with a revamp and/or Freemium conversion. AoC and SWtOR come to mind. While each is a relative success after conversion, they will never reach the heights their publishers aspired to originally.
Not really the start I was talking about though. It’s like Rift. As much as I don’t like the rest of the game, at least in the beginning, you were in the middle of a war zone. Stuff was blowing up around you. You were struggling to survive. You were in the moment. It carried me through the entire leveling process.
I liked also the rest of the open world in Rift .. what i don’t liked was that it was in the
end again all again just dungeons / raids if you wanted to have better stuff.
These massive zone events there were really fun for me ..See I liked it to a point, until I completely maxed out my planarite and couldn’t gain any more. That was the issue for me. Imagine doing events and not accumulating any more karma because you’d hit the cap. That was infurating.
Not that there was anything useful to spend planarite on anyway.
What me really turned off was when i saw that at level 50 you only could get stuff
that was level 46-47 or whatever for the purple shards from World events .. heck
not even decent level 50 stuff.
Ahh .. and that better crafting receipes were only available in dungeons, even if people
that played dungeons all the time didn’t really needed that crafted stuff.
